added a 5 km run/walk OUTSIDE this afternoon. Granted, I had double layers on, grips on my runners and the windchill was -13....but I was OUTSIDE!!!!!

sweet....I think we have to listen to our bodies sometimes. I'm a big believer in not going all out every day...I think we need to do something everyday...but sometimes what that is needs to be "tweaked". Maybe you just pushed too hard for too long?? You'll get back at it, I'm sure.

stillrunning...that's a milestone to celebrate!!! woohoo!!!!

Sweet, think of walking on the beach, walking across the Golden Gate Bridge, walking up and down the hills of San Francisco, and if that doesn't work....think Eduardo!!!!!!

I am new to this site and finding some interesting info! I just had permanent implants and nipple reconstruction done on 3/11/2014 and can't wait to get back to exercising regularly. Still dealing with 20 extra pounds since treatment. PS does not want excessive arm motions, which makes even walking difficult.   Any idea how long before I get the ok to resume full body exercise?

Welcome cd and Jonellis! I too continued walking post surgery but did not really start any other exercise for a couple of months. Just do what you feel up to when you can.

Sweet, it may be 9 weeks to California dreaming but it is also 9weeks until bathing suit season......Shocked

Exercise today was 30 minutes on the treadmill. 3 weeks from tomorrow, I will be running my very first 5k with obstacles......counting down and running regularly to prepare.

Welcome CD, Stillrunning and Jonellis. Jonellis we all know it's hard but you have to listen to your docs, that being said when I was allowed to start I used to sit on a recumbent bike and pedal away, no arms needed. Sweet don't beat yourself up, we all have down times but like Ruth says there is lots of walking in your future. Odie how fun, an obstacle run ThumbsUp

Tonight did Body Pump and CX Works which is a core workout, trying to work off the chocolate pie I've been eating Singing Btw Ruth I sent you a parcel yesterday Winking

Thanks all - I know I'll get back at it, I'm just sick of falling asleep again now if I let myself sit on the sofa before bed!  If I sit down to watch the 6:00 or 6:30 news I'm comatose before it's over.  I'm starting to think I may have a low-grade respiratory thing going on though, or maybe some sort of allergy (which I've never had before), so may call my PCP.  Had a dry cough for a few days about 3 weeks ago and have been sneezing quite regularly too.  No head congestion or heavy feeling in the chest, just tired.  Still a bit of a dry cough during the night but it's slightly productive during the day now.  Haven't seen PCP since pre-BMX so I'll probably give him a call.

There's a lot of junk going around, Sweet. Most everyone I know has had or is having some ort of illness. my son came home from college for the weekend with a fever. Then called me to let me know he had just "thrown up everything he'd ever eaten in his entire life." I'm disinfecting everywhere and scrubbing my hands raw, but am so NOT wanting to get it!!! Sick I'm JUST starting to feel better after 3 weeks of bronchitis. But still falling asleep at the drop of a hat.

Forced myself to do Day 2 of the 5K training this morning. Probably looked like a uck in a shooting gallery. Driveway refroze at the top and bottom so I was very limited in distance. Lol. Not sure how many times I turned around. And it is old. Grrrr. What happened to my forecasted sun and 40-50 degrees????

Nihahi, I don't know how you do it!! My nose was runnng the whole time.

Don't I know it Dulci.  One of our department heads at work yesterday warned us not to go upstairs because his people were 'dropping like flies' with the flu.  It's just very, very unusual for me to succumb to the normal illnesses that continually float around.   I haven't even had a simple head cold for many years and haven't vomited since morning sickness in 1988!  Last bout with diarrhea was only because of colostomy prep last April.....lol!  It's worth getting checked out though and like I said, I haven't seen my PCP since before BC diagnosis.  I'll make it worth my while though and ask him lots of questions about my aches and pains and arthritis and such.  He's a wonderful guy, I think about 15 years younger than me, and very knowledgeable and conversational/easy to talk to.\

Busy with housework today and just did 3 minutes on my zero gravity contraption.  Will probably go into the office a little later to work on a flowchart I have to have done by Tuesday AM and may go for a walk outside. It's kinda chilly today but we had a lot of rain last night that is helping clear the snow.  I haven't done my cemetery route since last fall so maybe I'll see how that's looking.  If I'm really ambitious I can walk to the office and back (4.4 miles round trip).

Dulci....do NOT get sick!!! There, hope that keeps the germs away.

How do I go out when it's yucky weather??? I know I go absolutely whacko if I don't get fresh air....I can feel my "attitude" shift within 5 minutes of being outside. I seem to have inherited the "bad genes" from both sides of my family, and have a loooong memory of watching loved ones health fail to the point of walkers, wheelchairs, bed bound, or passing away. And I'm not meaning all cancer related either! I keep moving in their memories...as there is a deeply buried "awareness" in my brain, that someday.....I may not be able to....that's truly what keeps me going. btw....I always break up my runs into run/walk, no matter how well I'm running...just easier on my joints.

Once your eyeballs freeze over, the nose tends to drip a little less too! The nose hairs and eyelashes take a beating though! Nerdy

Sweet - they said on CNN this will be the worst allergy season ever, and the levels are already extremely high.  I even heard my kitty sneeze this week!  Also, with what you described it does sound like an allergy.  Sometimes the tired feeling is actually a by-product of allergies.

I want you all to know, that I lived on Allegra and Allegra-D and/or Claritin for 10 years (lived in the south when I started taking it).  Also was allergic to many fruits, couldn't eat a banana without my mouth getting itchy, tomatoes would make my lips swell, etc.

After my dx, I was suspicious of everything. Cut out diet coke, coffee and all allergy medicine instantly upon dx. Then, introduced lots of veggies and fruits into my diet.  After a very short period of time (maybe as little as 6 weeks), my body adjusted itself and I have remained off allergy medicine and am no longer allergic to my food - for 2+ years now.  I think my allergy medicine was making my body over produce the antihistamine, and it was a continuous effect.

Doing the hike today.  Guess I should post after I exercise, so we for sure know that I got it done.  LOL  :o)

Should have run this morning but chose to sleep in a bit instead.Loopy

No time for it otherwise as I have a funeral service for a co-worker's husband who suffered a fatal heart attack while shoveling snow Monday. And yet today, it is a beautiful 70 degrees with more snow expected next week....

odie...that is a sad occasion....happens more often than it should, unfortunately.

Hubby and I bundled up for a good walk today...we have the clothes for it, so why not! 10km, with a few stops built in for errands and lunch.

I have a new theory to help motivate me to get out in this lovely "spring-like" weather. (-10, windchill-16). I now embrace the concept of cryogenics!!!! I figure that living up here as long as I have, and "playing" outside as much as I do, I have been exposed to enough significantly cold weather to have a significant impact on the ageing process. By my calculations, I am now in my late 20's!!! NerdyWOOHOO!

I thought the same thing, regarding giving up coffee!  LOL I loved it so much and I drank it daily, especially when I first sat down at my desk in the mornings.  When I was dx'd with bc, I always felt it was something new that I had introduced to myself in the past 2-3 years.  Two of those things were:  Coffee drinking (never had it before then) and turkey meat - I quit both.  After learning that California, under Prop 65 warns that coffee has chemicals known to be carcinogenic, it didn't take any effort to drop it.  I replaced it with hot green organic tea.  At first I needed a packet of raw sugar in the tea, then got to where I can drink it without the sugar.  It's been a great trade off, and green tea has some potent anti-cancer benefits.  Now, at the holidays, I do enjoy my Starbucks Eggnog Latte (which does have a shot of espresso in it).  I do just have a small one, and I try to only have about 2 or 3 for the entire winter season.  They are so yummy!!

That's an interesting statement.  I used to drink a lot more and have been trying to cut back.  Only had one this morning and then a cup of tea this afternoon.  I enjoy green tea, as well.  Although, when I had my 2nd lumpectomy earlier this month the anesthesia pre-admission testing told me to stop drinking green tea for up to 10 days prior.  Does anyone know why that would be?  My BMX is scheduled in about 12 days, so thought I better not drink any right now.  Thanks for the info.

Can't speak to the green tea issue as I'm not a tea lover, but this is an interesting conversation. Someone on another thread recently posted a study that shows coffee as having a positive impact on reducing recurrence !!!!!

My theory is....most things in moderation. Eventually, everything we eat, drink, breathe and touch goes through the cycle of bad...good...bad (again)....good(but in a different way).....You can go crazy trying to keep up with things!

cd: Welcome! Good question about the green tea. I don't know the answer, but please let us know if you do.

nihahi: Awww, to be 20 again!

Dh and I spread 50 bales of pine needles today. I won't be able to move tomorrow. It was a great day to do it - 72 degrees and light cloud coverage. Wanted to finish it because snow/mess is predicted for Tuesday.

Just found this on a website ...

Please stop all herbal supplements and Vitamin E products two weeks prior to your surgery. This includes: garlic, fish oil, glucosamine, green tea, and St. John’s Wort. These products could thin your blood and cause excessive bleeding during surgery. Please discuss specific medications with your surgeon.

An hour and a half yoga class today and 4 hours of walking around the mall shopping for a dress, and frankly I'm exhausted.

Nihahi, I will not have aged this winter then.  Maybe after the number of times I froze my face I'll be wrinkle free too for a long time.

Oh gee, I do hope coffee does not cause breast cancer.  I'm tired of giving up stuff. But yes a couple of years ago they came out and said coffee decreased the risk of breast cancer and helped tamoxifen work better.

I have been working long days, so today was a major pleasure as did a run, then bussed it into Seattle for some fun.  First stop was Nordstrom, where the lady who had me scheduled in for a hand massage, also did a full facial!!!  My skin was showing the effects of the move and all the work, so most welcome.  Also got two hot lipsticks for spring......so prepared for whenever it finally arrives.

Then of course to the wine bar, a glass of champagne to celebrate everything and catch up with my fellow wine drinkers.  I didn't see Sarah the manager as she is recovering from a concussion.  However, I did get to attend the party at Oldschool Pinups upstairs.  Learning is that not all corsets are like the ones my grandmother wore.

Below is an example of what a well-fitting one can do......

Wow Claire your arms look amazing!  I feel like a real exerciser now because I noticed your shoulder muscles before the corset :-)  Welcome Cdelv, Stillrunning and Jonellis.

Two mile walk and about an hour hooping.  My shoulder is really jacked up lately.  I assume it's a hooping injury, although I may have aggravated it with weights as well.  I'm having to ice and baby it.  No lifts over head and consciously trying to "pack" the muscle back before reaching forward or up.  If anyone has any other tips or success stories on recovering from shoulder overuse injuries please share!

Claire...please do share how to properly fit a corset! I've been thinking of adding one to my Victorian cycling costumes, but have no clue how to fit one. Or where to look for a simple, "good" one. And wondering if I should get the underbust kind because I don't want to risk my recon. I just want a tiny Victorian waist.

They laced me into it and I do know that each one fits individually.  If you contact Oldschool Pinups, the lady there can hook you up.  I did find it difficult to bend over wearing one, so be forewarned.

Lots of comments about my arms on Facebook, but my legs are equally toned.  Neither are quite as toned as they are after a season of cycling or skiing.

My friend Dottie took these pictures.  She is an aerospace engineer, in on one of her Boeing visits.  She lives in Agawam MA.  She is a hoot and just finished a half marathon.

Fun to be able to do these things.  Part of what I wanted to do is make a statement.  You really can look fit and toned post breast cancer, and even with 4 years of Anastrazole under your belt.  Plus, it's not over once you hit your 60s either.

Thanks! My antique bike keeps me in a very upright position, however cycling changed corset design to shorter more ride-friendly shapes before women stopped wearing them altogether.

My dad worked at Boeing when I was born.  :-)

Claire you look great and what a fabulous philosophy.  CD I love Tai Chi, I don't do it much anymore but I  use the breathing techniques that I learned doing it. Odie how sad for your co-worker. Sweet you could also have a bug in your system, think back did you have the flu and 'got over it' sometimes it can lay dormant in your system and just throw you out of whack.

This morning did a Body Pump class and now off to walk the aisles at Costco oh and return the crazy insane Golden Retriever I have been minding, she's just turned 1 and when she's about 4 she's going to be a fabulous dog, but for now she's a crazy insane teenager!!!!

hbcheryl - I seriously have not been sick with anything for years and years except a very minor head cold very rarely and then stupid BC, of course.  Never had the flue that I know of.  Now, I've often considered that since I never get sick then perhaps I'm a carrier instead.  I carry the bug(s) but they rarely affect me.....is that possible?  I'm sure I'll be fine, just need patience.
