Deb glad you're home. Cellulitis sucks!
You all sure cook a lot! LOL. I had the remaining stew I made last week. Dug out 2 slices of the pumpkin bread I made that were In the freezer. That was supper. DH is of course back at work. Won't see him for 2 weeks now. He looked a bit rough around the edge from the 12 hour days. He says he still has some social skills so it's not so bad but warns me that next time he'll be a bit more, um, brusk.... LOL I froze 1/2 the stew that I had made for him to take back with him. That's a couple meals he won't have to worry about. It beats the can of green beans he has eaten for dinner before. There are no late night restaurants and it takes 20 minutes to walk from one end of the plant to the cafeteria and with a half hour lunch it just doesn't work. And that's assuming that he's not in containment or protective gear. Oh well he's been through enough of them.
Much love.

Moon, that post made me smile. I would hear Sharon use the same words when she would get home from Palo Verde. The other two things I remember were 'modesty clothing' and 'anti-Cs'.

eric! Yep. I'm sure she knows! Even the shopkeepers in Two Rivers know about outages. They are very careful when they see the tired eyes.... LOL

Deb, sorry to learn that you were in the hospital but glad that you're back home and on the mend. The prospect of the new grandbaby must cheer you up.
Eric, tell us more about the dish you cook with the ground lamb. That type of cooking is unknown to me. The spices always sound like they belong to mince meat pie!
Lacey, that's awful for a med to cause that much havoc with your life. I don't think arimidex is that bad for creating a mental fog. I do draw a blank for the right word or name quite often but I assume that's just instances of senior moments.
Moon, how far is your dh from retirement? It sounds as though his work is very taxing.
It's Sunday morning and we're supposed to be providing beef pot roast with veggies for noon dinner at my mother's. My sister will bring mashed potatoes and I will make a carrot and cabbage cole slaw. DH volunteered to make the pot roast but he's still in bed. Yesterday his face was beet red from a light treatment at the dermatologist's office.

Deb, glad you're doing better. I had cellulitis once and would not care to have it again. No hospital, but it took many rounds of antibiotics to get rid of it.
For once, I have absolutely nothing planned for today. I get to read a book, watch a ballgame and be lazy. Dinner is even a lazy one, panko breaded tilapia fish sandwiches and mac and cheese, all separate components from the freezer. I will make some cole slaw to go with it. A good day!

Deb-Sorry to hear you have been in the hospital again with celulitis I hear it is not fun to have. Glad your back home. Hope your doing OK.
Tonight will be fresh cod or tuna from a friend who is out fishing as we speak he said he is fishing for cod but may end up with some tuna, I love cod but love tuna more. He is a good friend who sings here in town who is also blind, and he comes back with the biggest and most fish than any of the other guys. He is amazing.
Chabba looks like a lot of stuff going on over in Seattle, helicopter crashes, mudslides and flooding. Geez hope you are not any where near all that. Hope your doing Ok and feeling better.
0 -
Joyce- Oh and I forgot to add, how is your mom doing? Haven't heard from you so I am worried
0 -
Also thinking about Joyce and her mom....((((((Joyce)))))
Debbie, what an amazing friend you have ! Enjoy your fresh fish!

We are wet but no flooding.
Feeling a bit depressed tonight. I have been volunteering in the kitchen of our Senior Center for twenty years. We have three new board members who have taken over and changed the Center's mission and the way. it operates. Today my helper and I quit.
0 -
Chabba, I hope those new board members beg you to come back. You used to post about the soups and meals you cooked at the senior center. Hope things improve in your life so that your spirits lift. How is your dh doing?
This morning is my ww weigh-in. Situation looks good on my scale. I'm getting back into clothes that I couldn't squeeze into in early Feb when we got home from NZ and AUS.
After the WW meeting I plan to stop off at the paint store and buy paint. Will get started in the living room, but have a 3:30 apptment at my PCP's to discuss recent labs.
Dinner tonight will be traditional Mon. beans and rice. The beans will be dry limas cooked with smoked sausage made with some turkey and the rice is brown rice. You can get red beans and rice at almost any diner and lots of restaurants in NO area.
Wishing everyone a good Monday.

Carole, the lima beans and rice sound good. DH loves limas, but I don't because I think they're too bland and dusty tasting, but I've only ever fixed them with a ham hock. Maybe some spicy sausage is just what they need to increase their appeal to me. That would certainly make dh's day. Good luck with your weigh in and I hope you passed your tests!
Chabba, I'm so sorry about your volunteer job. Carole is right, they will miss you terribly.
Yesterday I made carole's microwave popcorn. So easy, but boy did that bowl get hot! I must confess, I did add a small amount of my homemade cultured butter on top to make the salt stick. But it was great not to add any extra oil. Delicious!
Tonight is dinner at our friends' house. Right now, it's breakfast and off to the gym!

Chabba, I am sad for you regarding this turn of events at the Senior Center. I was always so impressed when reading about the wonderful meals you made there. They were lucky to have you providing such a generous service for so many years. I hope that you can find something (maybe on a smaller scale?) that can fill that void, providing meaning for you and valuable service to others in need. Meanwhile, I hope is there something you can do that you enjoy to lift your spirits today.
Carole, good luck at WW! Sounds promising that you'll reach the "no fee" number.
. Speaking of fitting into clothes......I remembered this weekend that I have a trunk of my pre-marriage clothes (a bit hippie style) stored in our basement (not really sure why...it has not been opened in almost 40 years). If I can get past the dust mites and/or silverfish, it would be hilarious to try them on...and trek down memory lane.
Then, if they are in decent shape, I could donate them to a theater group we support in NH. DS2 is stopping over for dinner tonight...Since I made some arugula pesto, I think I'll make a baked pesto chicken dish I saw on the internet.....basically like chicken parm but with pesto coating the chicken before the sauce and cheese.

Chabba - I'm sorry for the change at your Senior Center. I knew things must have changed since you did not post the fab things you made - almost like spinning gold from straw. Prayers that your DH is doing better.
Nancy - I don't like the big fat lima beans - too dry. But I do like the Fordhook though I only find them frozen not dried.
We are still eating on the pork roast. I made it with a McCormicks sweet tea marinade loaded on my saver card. Good. I think tonight I will thaw some ciabatta rolls and make BBQ pork out of it and oven fries from some dying potatoes.
0 -
LMG, that sweet tea recipe sounds interesting. Could you post it or point me to the website?
Nance, just check the bowl you were using for the popcorn. It was micro safe, yes? I know some of my serving dishes get mixed in my cookware cabinet and occasionally one gets used...
Lacey, I have one or 2 pieces of clothing from those years. LOL. I couldn't try them on my finger! LOL
Carole sounds like WE IS what is helping you a lot. Of course my favorite recipe was the ricotta filled choc cake from way back when. LOL
Chabba. That just sucks. But you know after a bit you'll realize the stress wasn't good for you and you will feel better. Perhaps there is a church group that could use your help? Churches around here do all kinds of dinners, chili, lunch box salads, fish fry, chicken, ect. They always need people to help. Also at some they do the funeral luncheons. Of course that part is kind of unpredictable.
Much love to all, and special prayers for those who haven't checked in recently.

Monica, I used a Pyrex bowl.
0 -
Actually Pyrex is one of the bowls I had shatter on me. The older bowls were made for oven use. Not microwave. That's why I wanted to ask. If it's an older one it could be that. Just wanted to pass that along cause it's scary. And makes a BIG boom. Kinda like when I left an egg in the Easter dye pot of vegetable matter that I was reheating! LOL
that put a dent in my microwave wall. 0 -
Interesting, I've had the bowl for a good while, I'll have to check it out. It would be worth investing in a microwave safe one just for that purpose.
0 -
Nancy, the glass bowl does get very hot, which is probably part of the reason the kernals pop open! I should have mentioned to be careful in handling it. There's nothing wrong with your pyrex bowl. Mine is new.
I was down another 2.4 lbs this morning for a total of 8.2 lbs! Yay! Yes, I'm back to "no pay" status! Of course, I was recognized at the meeting and everybody clapped for me. The meetings are a lot of fun. One young woman with baby in arms today made the funniest confession. She's afraid her dh will lose more weight than she loses. He's eating the same foods that she prepares for herself. So she puts extra butter on his! Is that not hilarious? She giggled and said, "He says 'this food is pretty good.'"
Other good news.... I aced my labs! Everything was good. Cholesterol, tryglycerides, sugar, thyroid. It all goes to show that the ww eating program is healthy. The improvement from 4 mos. ago was remarkable.
I really like the dry limas. Of course, I usually sprinkle some Louisiana hot sauce on my beans and rice, and the sausage is spicy. But I like most beans and dh likes to cook them. So that's a win-win!
Nancy, anything cooked with smoked ham hocks is good!

Carole, congrats all around!

carole - yay!
Have not posted much about dinners lately because I have been making soft food for the DH and his poor mouth. Tonight was broccoli, red potatoes with butter and parsley and some mustard glazed Tilapia. All worked well for him because it was basically soft, but still yummy. I had a salad earlier, so did not eat tonight.

Yay Carole! And that mom from your meeting might just get have to get used to DH losing faster than she. Men typically have faster metabolisms and do lose quickly. Since we 've been on our fitness plan, DH has not lowered his calories near as much as I have and he is losing away! I have just decided to be happy with my progress and enjoy his also. He has a physical today and he pointed out his weight loss to his doc...to which the doc replied...."oh, I thought the assistant wrote it incorrectly". Glad my doc never said such a thing!
Today we bought kernels to pop....I will check my pyrex bowls carefully....may even get a new one. I hate glass accidents!
I have to weigh in on lima beans. My mother always served them, and it was the one thing that I could absolutely not get past my teeth. I think the dense, mealy texture or something. As an adult I have never prepared them and probably will never.....but kale.....now there's another story

Tonight's baked chicken breasts with pesto, marinara sauce and mozzarella cheese was delicious. Easy, fast and tasty! I made a spinach salad to go with it....always gotta get those greens in!

More on Limas - My Dad loved succotash - limas & corn - but I never warmed up to limas. I served them occasionally but always found them dry. Maybe Lacey's description of dense & mealy is better. There are so many veggies available now that I don't feel obligated to cook things I never cared for. Sorry to day even though I now live it the South that this includes okra & eggplant.

Oh my goodness. I was not hungry and now I am! Lacey how did the pesto chicken turn out? YOu had me drooling over the mushrooms than you threw that in there!
Carol- Congrats on the weight loss! You should feel so proud!
Deb- I am glad you are back home, I hope you are feeling better.
Joyce- How is your Mom?
Debbie- How are you feeling?
So---we are up north staying right on the mountain. The boys have all been skiing the last two days. The kids are loving the indoor pools and hot tubs. My brother and his girlfriend were up for a couple nights and went home this evening. Everyone has been having a great time and we have all been sharing the cooking and cleaning.
My brothers girlfriend made chicken picatta the first night- it was excellent. She also made breakfast Sunday morning, pancakes, scrambled eggs and home fries. I cooked dinner Sunday and did an eye of the round roast and it was delish. This morning Dh made a big bacon and egg breakfast and tonight was chicken parm. The rule is if you don't cook you clean or deal with my kids

Tomorrow Dh has to work and I have a girlfriend coming up with her boys to spend the night. No idea what tomorrow's dinner will be?
It was wonderful spending time with family and relaxing. The boys have been great and were soooo tired tonight. Lots more fun to come.
Sorry for anyone I missed! Welcome to the new people! I hope everyone had a great day.

Laurie, sounds like your ski trip is going great. Loved the pix of fun uncle and his cute nephews!
The pesto chicken parm is definitely worth making....and really easy if you have pesto already made.I used some arugula pesto that I made last week...which, by the way is quite tasty. I just love being able to make pesto with all those crazy greens I buy.
Enjoy the rest of your trip....love Loon Mtn!

I know I will feel a bit at loose ends for a while. On Sunday I'm going to revert to what I did on Sunday's before I started at the Center. I met the founders at church and told them I had retired. On the first Saturday in1994 Glen called me and asked me to help on opening day so I said yes. I have not been back since. I've always felt that my service there was my way of serving God because I was serving the needy by feeding them, helping to provide a friendly place for the lonely to socialize and make friends. So Sunday I'm going back to church. I may eventually even stop by the Center for breakfast first.

Oh My Yes Chabba you were certainly serving God at the Center. Matthew 25:40 says so.

Chabba - So glad that you weren't affected by the landslide in WA. If I remember, you're in Washington but on the coast? Glad you've already found a new outlet. What a shock that must have been.
Laurie - Sounds like a fun trip. Glad you're having a wonderful time.
Hugs to everyone else who needs a little extra.

Chabba-Sorry to hear that the place you loved and worked at for years has changed which made it hard for you to stay. But you know what they say, one door closes and another one opens, and that is exactly what happened for you. I'[m glad you found something right away to keep you busy and your mind off of things that get you in a funk.
Laurie-So good to hear that you are having a blast.Hope you are getting lots of rest and feeling better. Great idea about who does not clean takes care of the kids lol! Keep us posted on all your fun!
Carole- Congrats on the continued weight loss. And on all your tests as well. Laughed at the lady who put extra butter in her DH meal. LOL!
Lacey- Your chicken pesto sounds good, I have left over pesto in the fridge, (store bought) I will have to cook my chicken in the next couple of days so I can use it up thanks for the great idea!
Since we touched on skiing and lima beans I will also weigh in on that. Years ago a bunch of us went skiing and stayed in a lodge together, we made a ham hock with lima beans to let cook all night while we slept, Even though I did not like lima beans at all, I would wake up in the middle of the night and check on it, stir it, and season it then go back to bed, by morning time we discussed the soup and all 4 of us women got up in the middle of the night, stired and seasoned it and went back to bed. It was the best soup ever and now I love Lima beans but nothing has come close to that one we made years ago. LOL!
Made chili for dinner tonight, I wanted tacos and DH can't have the shells so I will make me some fried taco shells and put the chili in them. It is yummy that way!
Thinking of you all. Big Hugs!

Debbie, cute lima bean story!
Today I had lunch with a neighbor I hardly ever see. She still works....was dxd with bc two years before me, same dx and we get our BC treatment at the same local hospital that I do....so we discuss our common issue sometimes. She was switched from Tamox to AIs over a year ago (and has gained tons of weight, and has terrible hand and muscle pain) and I wanted to talk with her about my possible resistance to any more meds...or at least to an AI given my already arthritic hands. As one might imagine, I resolved nothing for myself.
My neighor has one year to go. So happy for her!For lunch I tried fried pickles for the first time. She is a southerner and almost leapt up when she saw fried pickles on the menu. Glad I know what they taste like now, but probably would not waste the fried food calories again! My main meal was a turkey BLT and greek salad...both good.
Tonight I had some cabbage soup to make up for the higher calorie lunch.
Also took a nice long walk before dinner.....but jeeze.....would the cold please leave! I piled on four layers, neck warmer, hat and gloves...and I walked so fast for forty minutes that I was finally toasty by the time I got home. Hopefully tomorrow will be our last snowstorm!Off to do some sewing since my brain is back to working for these weeks I'm off the Tamox.
Hugs and good meals to all.......
