So...whats for dinner?

Lacey - Someone on BCO used pea protein powder, maybe SpecialK. This time of night I might not know my own name. I've always had a fear my cart would disappear when I'm in dressing room esp. when full of bargains.
Eric - Pox on that store clerk. Humph - "not quite right". Hopefully she will get a lesson soon in keeping her comments in check. Might be a store I wouldn't go back to. Bet the clerk's ID# or name is on her receipt. I called a Jack in the Box on their comment line. I waited/waited/waited with only1 other customer in the store, got my food, drove around the corner to my next nursing visit. Called saying I would drive 3 blocks out of my way to another fast food joint to never eat in that store again and in the remaining 6 months I worked that area I didn't. Don't know if it made any impression but got my anger out in a somewhat constructive way.
Made the rice/bean stuffed peppers again and forgot to saute the onions/garlic b4. Didn't make any difference but I did use green onions rather than reg. sweet onion. They were just as good as last time. I didn't write down how I did them last time - the orig. is for stuffed tomatoes and doesn't have the rice. I did this time though. DH off today and we snacked around. Have ground beef for meatloaf but need to get in it pretty early. Getting hot here. Also some kind of new BallPark hot dogs. The chicken kebabs look divine.
Bedo - clams cooked in beer with beer. Ha. Do you use the clam liquid leftovers - you can see I know nada about clams. Only ones I know are in Campbells clam chowder.

Phew! didn't realise I'd been MIA for so long. Just caught up on all the posts and no way could I respond to all nor would you want me to because I could talk the hind legs off a donkey - ha ha!!
I have just had my salpingo-ooph done - Nan died of ovarian cancer so MO suggested I have mine removed. Recovering very well, enjoying the nice weather and back for follow up on Tuesday. Have the option to work from home for a couple of weeks after so will likely take that offer up - be mad not to.
One comment: Carole I read about your fried seafood platter - yummy. My DH surprised me for my 50th with a trip to NO - we went out (cant remember the restaurant) on my birthday and we ordered a fried seafood platter - oh! my gosh it was one of the best things I have ever eaten. I remember the restaurant being close to the French Quarter.
No ideas what for dinner tonight - still only 7.15 in the am

Hugs and positive mojo to all xxx

Tazzy Get a bottle of beer or two and boil them. Put in scrubbed clams. Boil. Eat. Drink "leftover" beer. I hope you are healing well
Lacey I was shocked and then burst out laughing, I thought your " Gross.. WTF.. ." comment was meant about the whey at first But
seriously Eric, that woman is not quite right in the head. I would call the manager. She needs to learn to keep her trap shut.
Going hiking
Making brown rice, black bean tomato concoction for dinner.
Have a great day everyone

Good morning all,
Bedo yes, 1% will work.
I have made it with water and get a sort of sorbet that when frozen can be eaten like an icee.
Smoothie this morning was blackberries, strawberries, spinach, carrots, water and BioTrust protein powder for me.
For kids it was fruit, veggies , OJ and a cherry greek yogurt.

Tazzy, it's great to hear from you! Glad you enjoyed your trip to NO.
Eric, the chicken kebobs look delicious. I am furious at that clerk! It comes through your posts what pleasure you get from your DD. That's so nice.
Lacey, your dh seems to enjoy a lot of good meals with his meetings!
Moon, your chicken and rice sounds good but the s'more sounds better!
Nancy, hi to you. Is your pastry station finished and are you making pastries and breads? Be careful with those sharp knives!
Bedo, I'm sure I would enjoy those clams.
We had a "I'm all out of ideas of what to cook" meal last night. I sliced boneless pork chops into strips for stir-frying. The veggies were sugar snap peas, julienned carrots, little colored peppers in strips. Cooked the pork and the veggies separately and mixed everything together. Veggies a little overcooked. Sprinkled balsamic vinegar on my serving and grated some asiago cheese. DH doused his with soy sauce.
It was dinner. We had Edie's French Silk ice cream for dessert with sugarfree chocolate syrup. My serving was TINY, but tasted yummy. Not as good as Moon's dessert, I'm sure!!!
It's still raining today. We've had 7 in. and counting over 3 days. I'm taking my niece and her two daughters (8 and 4) to lunch at my niece's favorite cheapie Mexican restaurant. I heard through my mom that my niece has decided to go vegetarian so this should be interesting. My niece could count the number of veggies she eats on one hand! She's back in treatment for her mental illness and addictions and has become interested in Buddhism. I'm in favor of anything to give her some stability. Her good periods never last long.
Happy Saturday.

I sent an email and a scanned copy of the receipt to the department store. If the manager tells the clerk to engage her brain before her mouth, and the clerk understands, then something good will have happened.

Eric! That was awful! Tell Sharon we're so p*ssed for her. Wasn't the scarring enough of a clue for the dimwat? Even if it was covered up, we all know you don't say anything about people's body. It's kind of like sayjng " I had a hard time fitting you with one leg so much shorter than the other". Or "your hump in the back is so hard to fit" or even "gee, you'd be so pretty, if it wasn't for that ugly scar on your face" Can you picture anyone saying those things? Sharon needs to call or email the store and make them aware of the liability they have on their staff!
BTW, I used Dove DARK chocolate in the s'mores and they were pretty good! LOL
Much love to all.

Tazzy - welcome back.
Eric - I probably would have ripped open my shirt & made some hateful comment like - now what do you think bi#ch? You handled it much better.
Protein powder - a friend brought me Beneprotein powder by Nestles when I was losing so much weight w/chemo. That's what MD Anderson told her husband to use in his feeding tube. I see they have it at Walgreens, WalMart, Amazon, etc. It's made from Whey Protein Isolate but now that I look at the container it may have some soy lecithin too. I never paid attention since I'm ER/PR negative.

Trying to learn to do links
I hit the little link sign & copied the URL and selected 'insert link'. But I can't get it to come up in the post. Has anyone else done it? In the mean time, you'll have to copy & paste the Beneprotein link into your browser.

minus - that's what I was thinking too!!!! My attitude is becoming a little more scorched earth lately! My DH started laughing at me on the phone the other evening with the Sirius satellite radio guy that had called for the third time - I made is abundantly clear to him that if I was the last person on earth I did not want Sirius satellite radio in my new car. Don't listen to the radio anyway - why would I want radio I have to pay for? And why do you keep calling me when I keep saying the same thing, and what is your name, your supervisor's name, what do you have to do to take me off this flaming call list, whatever it is do it NOW!!! That situation was not comparable to what happened to Sharon, I am just appalled at that! Eric was more civilized than I would have been, lol!
When I attach links I left click on the link in your browser and right click to bring up the box with options, left click on copy, then come to the posting window on BCO and right click again to bring up the box, and left click on paste - that is how I do it. Just make sure that you are on a new line in the "post a reply box" on BCO otherwise it will paste your link in the middle of what you have already typed. Ask me how I know this, lol! I only use that insert thing for pictures from my hard drive or off google images.

I was at work, so I didn't have the opportunity to say anything to the clerk. Sharon said it was one of those, "Did she just say that" things that left her speechless.
I have offered my opinions to folks before when I felt it was needed....only one time did security show up. :-)
In other news, I've been reading the blog at Shesimmers.com. It is a Thai food blog.
I was introduced to Thai food by a bunch of Thai engineers. After they went home I continued going to the restaurant they had found. For a long time the language barrier made it very interesting to order. I eventually learned enough Thai to at least know what would show up on the table. Their children working there and 25 years time have eliminated the language barrier. The food is just as good as always and they even remember me from "back then".

Tazzy, Bedo and Viv, great to hear from you! Everybody's food sounds better than mine. My DBIL was here for several days, helping my DH do some home improvement projects. Since they were doing such hard work, I let them pick the menus. Naturally, they wanted things like tacos, pizza and meatball subs, smoked sausage and sauerkraut. Now that he's gone, I have no idea what to fix. Tonight will be something porkish on the grill with some corn on the cob and salad. I have an abundance of home grown lettuces. DS and DDIL are coming next weekend, so I'll get to flex my creative culinary muscle then. It's DS's birthday celebration dinner and something he looks forward to, so I'll try to fix something memorable. I think a cheese soufflé and homemade ice cream will be part of that menu.
Yes, the baking center is nearly finished and I love it.

Not a great picture, sorry. The wall to the left will be painted with chalkboard paint. I'm torn between leaving my mixer out or storing it away in the pull out cabinet drawer. I would like to have the greater area, but most of my baking projects involve the mixer so it's convenient to leave it out. It's going to stay out for the moment anyway, until I make up my mind. There is another counter to the right that I can move it to temporarily when I'm working there. I'll post a better picture when it gets done.
The knives are a dream. I don't seem prone to cutting myself as much as I like to burn myself. I made supper Tuesday to take to a friend who just had surgery. The dish was a chicken arribiatta that cooked on top of the stove then in the oven. I took the skillet out of the oven and 5 minutes later grabbed the handle with my bare hand. Ouchie! Dunked my hand in ice water immediately but still got two blisters that made it difficult to drive and deliver the dish to my friend. Fortunately, another friend helped me out. All this was after I mashed my finger in the lemon squeezer. DUH! But knives -- no problem! (Can't say the same about graters though lol)
Eric, add me to the group who is horrified at the rudeness of people. I'm a big believer in filing complaints with higher ups (praise too) because that's what makes an impression. I'm not sure what I would have said to that idiot. I can have a short fuse but I might have had the same reaction as Sharon.
Monica, what a great idea for the s'mores! The chicken sounds great too. I'm impressed that you had all the ingredients on hand for the s'mores. I'm always short one component. The wedding pics were wonderful. I'm so glad everything went well.
In wildlife news, we have a new crop of baby rabbits. Cute as they are, they are feasting on my flowers, the little varmints. The apple trees are loaded with fruit and I can already see the squirrels and deer licking their chops at the thought. We spent the morning mulching all the vegetable beds. I was very excited to see how big a few tomatoes are -- golf ball size! We also have two green peppers and a jalapeno developing. Yay!
I've been reading everyone's posts faithfully. It's too frustrating to post from my phone and I'm only on my pc once a day usually. Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend! I think it's time for popcorn.

Uh Oh,
I put 5 1/2 cups of water, 3 vegetable cubes, half a package of "baby" carrots, some onion things from the garden, 1 1/2 cups of brown rice, a 16 oz can of "fire roasted" tomatoes, about 1/2 teaspoon fresh rosemary and thyme and a garlic clove in the slow cooker and put it on high for 3 hours. I plan to put in 1/2 a bag of spinach close to the end. I wanted to use up what's in the fridge.
I made up the recipe. I have always strictly followed the rules before.
What do you think?
Any suggestions?
I could always put ketchup or hot sauce on it

bedo - I don't know - it sounds pretty good!

Great to see a lively thread!

Tazzy, so good to see you and to learn that you are doing well.
Nance, you have been a busy girl....directing the guys making the baking center, I suppose?
It looks great, and I love your mixer...commercial variety? I rarely put my appliances away....inspiration, ya know! Tho you probably need less inspiration than I.
Very late last night, (or more accurately, early this morning) I decided to make cookies for the memorial reception today, and decided on a recipe with which I could avoid the mixer. When I got it all mixed, the familiar batter looked way too loose, (my guess was that I mistakenly left out a half cup of flour)so I kept adding flour until it looked right. Meanwhile, it was 1:30AM and I was fading, so I put it all in the fridge, and baked them early this morning. Whew! Kept my fingers crossed and they came out fine. I should really take a baking course some day...
Eric, so glad you sent the email to the store mgmt. If nothing else, the clerks might get some inservice on how to act like a respectful human being....if being one doesn't come naturally!
Nance, I am so envious of all of your garden "early bounty".....as I have mentioned I have yet to even put a flower in down here. I will probably pop some fleurs and veggies in pots up north. Of course here, now that our resident poppy addict has destroyed my entire poppy bed, he is nowhere to be seen. We are not amused!
Also, Nance, the mention of your bunnies reminds me that we have not seen any for several weeks. I read that woodchucks kill them....so maybe we have been relieved of the cuter little pests....but at this point it does not even matter.
DH is back home....he made it here five minutes before the memorial service for his friend started, and it was a beautiful memorial....especially because a good friend of the man who died is an accomplished pianist. I must become friends with a great musician before I expire....if for no other reason than to have beautiful music at my service.....tho in truth, I have often thought that it would be great to have my favorite r+r and r+b and classical pieces played on CD. Since DH is a good DJ, we could probably work that out!

So tonight I felt that it would be a great idea for DH to make (translate "order") dinner since I only felt motivated to make a salad, and was busy sorting tons of my too big clothes to give to the homeless (yes it is still quite cold here on the Boston Common at night), which a friend will deliver directly this week.
So....we decided to order from Not Your Average Joe's here in town. Maybe I was just hungry, but WOW my cod in a saffron broth (oops, there was a milky appearance to it) with chopped spring garden vegetables over a crab cake was delicious! DH's jambaylaya with andouille sausage, chicken, and shrimp was also delightful. I made an arugula salad with mushrooms, red onion, grape tomatoes, carrot, kalamata olives, and Italian dressing. Sound familiar?
Went well with our main dishes.Tomorrow evening we are celebrating with the rest of the ministerial search committee, spouses, and the new minister and her husband. The group decided to do apps (tho I am making two salads to add a bit of fiber!) and desserts to keep it casual. Three other meals out this week....unusual for me. June is always a crazy busy time of year.....are my fellow Geminis getting ready to celebrate?!?!
We are going to meet DS2 on the twelfth at a neat newer seafood place (Row 34, in Fort Point) near his neighborhood for a fish! fish! fish! dinner. I may even go for the fresh fried oysters...a departure from my broiled favorites!
As usual, I have rambled on....apologies.

Auntie, what is the baking center backsplash made with...tile, metal...??????
0 -
Actually Eric, it's thermoplastic made to look like stainless steel. I really like it. Lacey, the mixer is a cuisinart. Not professional.
0 -
Eric! posts must have crossed. I didn't see you say you sent an email til I read your post..LOL. .but I'm glad you did.
Auntie I love your baking center. I've been busy with the wedding I haven't done any baking and not much cooking either lately. I've got to start up again. But I've been pretty tired. My knee is giving g me a lot of grief. That and my ankles, arms back and other knee. Oh. And did I mention my wrists? LOL. Whine whine whine! LOL. But less than 3 weeks to my new knee so hopefully a different pain to whine about.... LOL
Lacey, I hope you enjoy your dinner out and don't wear yourself out with all the cooking and baking you are doing.
Tazzy, sorry I forgot to say Hi! So hi.
Bedo that concoction sounded great. How'd it turn out?
Special and minus, yes I understand the lack of willingness to suffer fools. Although I have to admit I turned down March of dimes and still feel guilty.... LOL
Much love to all. If I missed someone it was not intentional. Just I haven't taken my Co Q 10 lately....

Monica, I really hope your new knee gives you some relief. I live with much less severe knee pain than you and I know it is no fun.

Ditto on compliments on that great backsplash, Nance. When we re-did our kitchen, I foolishly decided to continue my kitchen wallpaper thru the backsplash area. Duhhhhh, it's called a backsplash for a reason! At some point, I need to change it up and your choice looks like a good option!
Moon, hope your joint pain lets up. No worry about whining here......;)
On a non-food topic, I am getting prepared (at least cognitively) for my meeting with MO later this week, and I read up on people's experiences with AI's. Am feeling panicked at the notion of more joint pain (especially hand, which I already have pretty significally), cognitive fog, and weight gain, among other indelicate QoL reducing side effects.
Is there anyone out there who takes an AI who has minimal side effects? Feeling so resistant to return to how awful I was feeling before I abandoned my tamox regimen. I think that for me, it's probably a case of my body just screaming out, "Don't mess with my estrogen or I'll turn you into a pained sloth!!" Talk about anticipatory whining......:/
0 -
Ha ha Lacey, I like that -- "anticipatory whining"!
0 -
lacey - since being on the food sensitivity diet for 6 months, which lowers inflammation, I have no joint pain. Already had hot flashes due to hyst/ooph 13 years ago, AIs (and chemo) did not make that worse, or better. I took Femara initially for 6 months (Mylan brand) as my onc favors Femara due its statistical edge. Mylan was the available formulary at the pharmacy. I switched to Arimidex because I developed a trigger thumb, my onc was casual in suggesting the switch, just to see if the trigger would resolve, which it did. It took a year to develop some more triggers in different fingers/toes/ankle, and some knee pain, so I ended up switching back to Femara because I felt that if I was going to have these issues I would rather be on the med he likes better. When I switched back I ended up taking a different brand (Teva) and have been on it for a while, and have no problems. I did have some mild joint pain, but after 90 days on the diet it went away. I was also able to lose weight. I am a happy girl!
0 -
Sharon is still experimenting to decide if the AI is causing the nasal congestion.
The only other thing she's mentioned, besides the "will always happen stuff", is not losing weight as easily.
She's starting to wince when she uses her left arm....it's the side the removed all the lymph nodes. I'm not so worried about a recurrence, but because it makes it harder to play her banjo.
0 -
Thanks guys....notice my safe generic term.
So not sure if my post reflected the funk I am in about this damn upcoming meds decision, but since spending a lot of time last night researching all of the AI SE horrors, I have been in a very worried mental state. But life goes on, and after sending DH off to the store to pick up some ingredients (as I was not worthy of public viewing yet today)I was busy looking up which dressings I wanted to make for the salads I'm bringing tonight....when suddenly DH bombs back in the house with an announcement that "DS2 is here....with someone". Well! Sure enough, I was face to face with Chicago girl, his serious love interest. They were heading from western MA where they had attended a wedding this weekend, to the airport, and decided to briefly stop in so we could finally meet her, before the meeting we had planned in early July. Yay! I have to say, my mood is now anxious and elevated. She seems lovely and I can tell they are both so good with each other.....so.....elevated mood since I am so happy for DS2....anxious because we really don't want him to relocate to Chicago, much as I love that city. To be determined.....
Okay.....back to dressings....

ah Lacey! Isn't that life? Happy sad pissed off and hilarious? LOL and of course you met her when you were looking um, not your best. LOL. Oh well you met her that is great. That you saw they were good is even better. And if they move to Chi town you will have to visit. I'll come down to meet you. But it's hard to let the kids go off on their own. My DD1 lived in PA for 8 years. They're back in WI now but i still don't see her as often as i like. Hugs.
Nance I'm sorry you have the darn knee pain too. I hope can be alleviated with some cortisone injections or Symvyst. I've had both they work for a while but I'm so far beyond those. If they stop working for you don't wait if you don't have too. I waited way too long.
Eric you have to record Sharon playing the banjo for us sometime! I hope she plays for a long long time to come!
To all much love.

A friend sent this...he said he was going to step out onto the back porch....and had his mind changed.😨

Sharon used to jog a bit and her knees started bothering her...she felt it was just "getting old" stuff. Of course the above would certainly turn either of us into a world class gymnast...if only for just a moment..

Um Yum mousy rat for dinner. I saw the biggest mud turtle I've ever seen crossing just up the road this morning. Thought it was a very slow moving cat. Wish I could have seen just how big it was but dressed for SS and late to boot.

Eric, eek!
0 -
Eric. I am speechless
Viv I will look into Biotrust or harass the health food store about non soy protein. Or maybe eat a hard boiled egg. I picked up 12 of them "freshly laid" within 2 hours, and organic and pasture raised at a local family "farm" after hiking today. So nice and weird in a way to see the "Mom" ( no rooster in sight) they came from happily strutting around.
It's too bad that the fresh ones are so hard to peel when hard boiled.
The hike was very woodsy and pretty, the sun dappled the ground foliage. Didn't see any animals, but some history with boulders washed up from very old glaciers in formations, and the remains of a very old homestead.
Mush came out OK in the crockpot. I kept turning it off and on because I was sleeping or going out and didn't know what I was doing. I think that it was "OK" and would feed a bunch of people who were very hungry. It filled up the crockpot. So now I have a lot of it. Thankful for the forgiveness of crockpots

Lacey, I really haven't suffered a great deal from taking arimidex. Warm flushes are my main complaint. It remains to be seen whether my difficulties with weight loss, elevated bp and elevated cholesterol can be attributed to arimidex. I haven't had problems with trigger fingers or joint pain. I think it's an individual thing and you shouldn't expect to experience all the SEs other people have attributed to AIs.
I read pages and pages of the discussion forum about AI SE's and was extremely nervous about popping my first little white pill. I immediately discovered that I didn't want to take it in the morning. That first day I felt about 100 yrs. old. So I started taking it at night. I also take a benedryl as a sleep aid and I sleep very well.
I honestly think that stopping HRT was the big life changer for me. If I hadn't developed bc, I would still be taking it and feeling great. For the sake of women, I hope scientific evidence emerges that HRT doesn't cause bc.
We had less rain today. I am so ready for some sunny breezy weather to make the golf courses playable. I've had enough of being indoors.
Enough whining!
