Hi all,
I am back from Portland so have completed 8 for 8 Seattle-to-Portland rides. It was blast furnace HOT on Saturday, but did finish thanks to all the lovely people with sprinklers and hoses out. I love that they added most likely $30 to their monthly water bill to help us out. Also all those who gave us free water. It made all the difference. Some guys in Roy WA had set up "Ye Olde Pit Stop" with water, ice, sprinklers and hose downs. We needed it.
Man, was I thrilled to see CLOUDS about 10 AM on Sunday, so was about 70F vs 95. I didn't mind getting wet either for part of the ride. Nature's lawn sprinkler.
Did anyone else see Saturday's moon? Late twilight deep cobalt blue sky with bright yellow moon. Just spectacular.
I know that my heart is just fine after something like 6 hours of cycling in 90F+ temps on Saturday. Did all the hills despite the heat. Fortunately, cool in the AM and just delightful then.
I got chatted up by a couple of nice guys. One is married and about 10 years younger. I rode the bus back with him earlier today. He has done things like sail across the Atlantic. Just a fun chat. So many things to add to my bucket list. The other one is even younger. He may call. Then I need to fess up that I am a LOT older than I am sure he thinks I am. He bought me a beer at the finish.
I have been having a wonderful time today being obnoxious and displaying my "Finisher" badge. You only get to do this once per year, and I am milking this one.
It was 209 miles over 2 days plus a long walk to my hotel last night as set out in the wrong direction. I am taking today off

Now that it's cooling down tonight, I need to fix my steak. I need protein to rebuild.....or at least that's my excuse. Then a shower and long snooze....in MY OWN bed. - Claire

Sweet so glad you are feeling better. Ruth and Wonderland I know you had fun today even without me
LB I am so happy that the little program you started has grown wings and flown and I am so pleased your evening was a huge success. Pat I'm with you if I don't go to the gym I don't work out, I am in awe of the girls who work out in their home. Teacher how nice that your trainer was able to help you. Twohobbies I am 14 years into menopause and the hot flashes are like the gift that keeps on giving
Did Sh'bam class today, still suffering shortness of breath and coughing will it ever go away

redreading- I just finished week 4 of couch to 5k and I have never been a runner. You can do this! It is great how it slowly builds up the jogging part. I am extra careful to do stretching and some yoga after each workout.
Going to try to get in a bike ride before the next set of storms hits us.

Claire - age is a number - I'd keep it to yourself and see what kind of chemistry there is first - JMHO.
OK, get to the gym yesterday, and my key fob doesn't work, and the windows are all blacked out. Getting that sinking feeling the gym has gone belly up. I had a training appt scheduled, so called my trainer and asked what was up. Turns out the three staff members are holed up in a tiny little space at the back of the gym, with some dumbells, benches, and a couple of ellipticals and bikes. So I trained in this tiny little space with them, but I trained! I also got a tour of the renovations, it's going to look nice. Grand reopening has been pushed back another week. So this week I really need to do something on my own at home, can't go 2 weeks without exercising.

hbcheryl - I'm impressed that you're able to workout the way you do so soon after battling pneumonia, don't push yourself too hard. I had it in June 1999 and I call that my 'lost summer'. Was off work for a week then a week of half days after that before going back full time. It took forever for me to regain any energy. Don't be surprised if you keep a little nagging cough for quite a long time.
Very cool and cloudy here today so I'm glad I was out in the yard to get some sun yesterday. I'll probably go for a walk later. Back to work tomorrow after a wonderfully long weekend.

Wow, Claire, sounds like quite the weekend!
Walked the dogfor an hour, off to the airport in a few minutes ... boo hoo, always hard to leave... families who like each other should not live so far apart

Claire: Way to go!!!
Sweet: Glad you're feeling better.
Cheryl: REST and get BETTER!!!
Ruth: Miss you already!
Hello all. Had a fabulous lunch with Ruth and her family members yesterday! Loved looking through her photo album of the California Dreaming Trip! Dh and I left the restaurant and drove on to visit dd. She is moving back home for a job so my exercise consisted of packing and cleaning. Next week she moves to another apartment so more cleaning and then unpacking what we just packed up!

I'm so far behind this thread! Just a few highlights - LB - so glad your fundraiser was such a roaring success. Sounds like a great day. Ms_mes - I think you're right about weight training helping not only to prevent bone loss but to minimize weight gain - I've gotten slack about weight training lately and have been trying to get better about it. Claire - I heard it was unusually hot in Seattle this weekend and thought of you - glad you survived the heat on your big ride. Way to go! Ruth and Wonderland - love the pictures, especially in the tea hats! Yes, I think you both would look beautiful at a summer garden wedding! Too bad the days of arranged marriages are long gone . . .

Been trying to keep up with exercise - lots of Garden N Sculpt over the weekend, then running, yoga and walking this week. It's supposed to be in the 50's tomorrow morning, so I plan to take advantage of that and get in a good run. I have my monthly LE manual lymph drainage maintenance appointment this afternoon with the LE therapist which always feels wonderful, then on to yin yoga tonight. I should be like a little limp relaxed ragdoll by the end of the day.

Thanks Mary. It was blast furnace hot on Saturday. Even my oncology team was worried about me, and it had nothing to do with my having had cancer. Someone from their team also did the ride, but her riding partner bailed. We were riding into the sun which made it even hotter. I would hose down, and be dry in 20 minutes.
I am nearly recovered today, and nice to feel on my game again. Yesterday was a struggle.
About weight training. The other benefit is being able to rock halter tops. I am wearing a hot aubergine silk number today with a summer sweater on top. I look fab in it.
I washed down my bicycle last night and left a ring around the bicycle rack outside my building. Will follow with chain lube. But will be riding my other bicycle this weekend. Will do the gravel trails, and has a different saddle....YAY!!!! Because things are still a bit tender in the lady parts

Last two days were off days because of cording pain. I got help from my trainer who massaged my neck shoulder and arm, so I am human again today. 3 mile walk and all is well with the world!

Great picture Ruth and Wonderland. You guys would look fabulous at a garden wedding.
Glorious weather here today so I took a nice 3 mile run around my office park after work today before hitting the gym for some calisthenics and stretching exercises.

Ruth and Wonderland, I love your pictures!! You have wonderful memories of a wonderful time!!! Mary, I just finished my 6 weeks-manual lymph drainage wIth a wonderful LE therapist! It was twice a week for 6 weeks! I will ask her about a maintenance program! That is great that you do that!!!My left arm is so much better, and I will continue to do the exercises she gave me at home!! Cheryl, you are so good to keep doing your Body Combat!!! Hope you feel better each and every day! Have a great evening!! I did hills today and an afternoon walk!!!

Yes, Ruth - great shirt!!
Kindergarten - unfortunately I have to self-pay for my monthly MLD maintenance sessions - insurance will only cover therapy when there's definable progress made towards a goal - it doesn't cover maintenance of chronic conditions. Stupid, isn't it? I was lucky enough to find a licensed massage therapist who had taken training to learn MLD - she does a fabulous job. I've been seeing her monthly for close to a year now, and haven't had a serious flare in all that time. Teacher - glad that the cording is resolving itself - I had terrible cording after my BMX and my DIEP, so I know what you're going through. Cheryl - glad you're getting back on your feet - you really had it for a while. As Odie said, it's glorious weather here in the DC area! 58 degrees and low humidity at 6am when I did my half hour run. Lots of bunnies and one chipmunk who I apparently took completely by surprise - when he saw me he jumped up straight up, then looked like a cartoon character spinning his wheels trying to run away. So cute.

Just read an interesting article about using computer passwords as inspiration.
http://www.today.com/health/how-password-changed-o...
As we all know, we're stuck entering passwords every day - and especially work PCs when those paranoid network security people make us change these passwords pretty frequently and have all kinds of complexity requirements. The author started using passwords to help him achieve his goals. He feels that entering the same goal phrase every day several times a day really helped him internalize those goals. It didn't always work, but it worked for quite a few things. From the article:
"Here are some of my passwords from the last 2 years, so you get an idea of how my life has changed, thanks to this method:
- Forgive@her (to my ex-wife, who started it all.)
- Quit@smoking4ever (It worked.)
- Save4trip@thailand (It worked.)
- Eat2times@day (It never worked, still fat.)
- Sleep@before12 (It worked.)
- Ask@her4date (It worked. I fell in love again.)
- No@drinking2months (It worked. I feel better.)
- Get@c4t! (It worked. I have a beautiful cat.)
- Facetime2mom@sunday (It worked. I talk with my mom every week.)
And the one for last month:
Save4@ring (Yep. Life is gonna change again, soon.)"
I think I'll try this the next time our network requires me to change passwords - I'll use some health or fitness goal - can't hurt.

Mary, your once a month therapy sounds wonderful! It is definitely worth the cost, even if insurance does not pay for it!! I see my onc again in two weeks and see if she will write me another prescrition, my therapist always needs a written even if insurance does not pay for it!! Did hiss and stairs today at the strand!!

yikes my spelling is awful today!!! I did hills and stairs on the strand this morning!! Cheryl, glad you are taking it somewhat easy!!!

Finally raised my heart ejection fraction back up after a downward slope from herceptin. It is in the normal range so I have started to exercise again. Ran 3.46 miles with my puppy dog today! Beautiful 70 degrees and sunny

Welcome Andreamia and good on the running.

Ran a 5k this morning and it's the hottest day of the year in the UK.

Thanks, you also! Hopefully you had a lot of shade

Welcome Andreamia, what a pretty dog & cat!
Went to my Core class this morning but no pilates because I had a hair appointment. I will try to get something more in because I have Book Club tonight (ie wine and dessert) and I am already up several pounds (to put in mildly) from all my vacationing!
