It's been hard to keep up since I'm having muscle spasms in my back...But
I reached and exceeded my goal steps yesterday!
Not only that, but whenever my red bar showed up in my vivofit I went over to the stairs and did up/down on the bottom step for 5 minutes at a time. My poor dogs were so confused - mommy is going upstairs! They race to the landing... Wait, is she stuck? It was so funny the way they were looking at me.
More steps today. I would love to walk outside but I'm not a fan,of the cold at all. Except when I'm having hot flashes lolol

Finally back to training! Today was my first livestrong @ the YMCA class, talk about being out of shape! All I did was walk up the stairs and walk a circuit for 3 and half minutes and was exhausted at the end! But from my previous experience at the Y I know by the end of the 12 week class I will have improved tremendously and hopefully this time I will keep it up.Aurora

Alexa, that's funny about the dogs. My dog will follow me around all day. If i'm doing laundry and carting upstairs 15 times he'll follow me each and every time. My husband tells him to "take a break".
Trying to hear the voices right now, but its foggy and cloudy out which doesn't draw me outside.

Love the dog stories, Alexa and TH.
Beautiful picture, Mary.
Keep up the good work, Aurora.
Just returned from my fast walk/jog in 67 degrees.

I subbed today. As I was leaving, around the corner came a teacher friend followed by a bunch of 6th graders. She has started a little walking club that walks the (4 story) building every Tuesday & Thursday. They yelled, "Come walk with us!" So I did for about 20 minutes until my feet hurt too much (I was wearing dress, not walking, shoes). I will go to yoga tonight....maybe I'll go a little early & walk a bit on the treadmill with proper footwear.

3500 meters on the rower this morning after power tossing and turning from 2 am - 6am. Could not sleep thanks to the hot flashes/sweats and then chills. Hoping for a better sleep tonight!

I am so jealous of the 60 degree temps!
Martha- I did the very same thing last night. Tossed and turned. Hot then cold. Very little sleep. Woke up with a headache and stomach issues. Took today off from the gym. Heading to bed soon. Here's to a better night's sleep.

1/20- got to the gym today and did 40 min of weight resistance and my 20 min kettle bell workout. My goal is to get to the gym for something every day the rest of the week!

Mary, please post a picture of the mountain laurel in the Spring. Bet it will be breathtaking.
Envious of those people with 60 degree temps. Not so much on those suffering hot flashes all night. Hoping for better zzz's for you guys tonight.
Went to the gym after work today for 30 minutes on the Elliptical plus weights and stretching. Off work tomorrow for yearly doctor visits so of course they are calling for rain/snow
. Will try to come home and do some Yoga and circuit training after.Good night all.

Martha I was up from 4am too coughing, coughing, coughing then couldn't go back to sleep. Beautiful place you've found to walk Mary. Aurora you will get back to it as you've already laid the groundwork.
Body Jam class tonight it was packed and lots of new people, our instructor is off to Japan next week luckily we have a great sub

LOL on the dog stories. My Mikey likes to "help" when I'm doing floor work like yoga or Pilates.
Reports are that my FIL is sleeping more and doing less so it seems that the time is getting close. He's still in no pain and is oriented when he's awake, which is a real gift.
With the days getting just a smidge longer, I managed to get in a quick half hour run after work last night before it got too dark - first time in a while I've been able to do that. C'mon Spring!! (She says with a Winter Weather Advisory issued for today!

Still doing my daily steps even though me TE and back are still hurting. Wahhhhh I'm a big baby. But I managed to exceed my steps goal yesterday. Doing my exercises has inspired my 22 yo daughter to get back into shape. She tossed all her junk food, started googling healthy recipes and went for a run this morning! Amazing how seeing me just get my steps in by jogging in place has inspired her

You're a good role model for your daughter, Alexa.
Nice picture Ruth. Not trying to rub it in, but I got to walk outside - no snow, no ice, 58 degrees.
Thinking of you and your dh, Mary.
Fast walked/jogged at the park late this afternoon.

Good for everyone who heard and obeyed The Voices, including me!
Walked 45 mins Mon, date night Tues, then today 20 mins yoga and 45 mins walking. Brought a project home to make up for time @ scan this morning. (Baseline DEXA, quick & easy, should have results in a week). I plan to knock out the work in the next few hours then do 20 mins zumba express if not too close to bedtime. Probably take a while to relax after all that salsa and merengue.
Ruth, would you please post your method for keeping track of daily/weekly exercise. I'd like a refresher and the newer ladies haven't heard it yet. Thanks! ♥ to all

Forgot to mention for Martha and Ginger, I had terrible night sweats. Mine are (touch wood) a thing of the past. My solution was to keep a stack of dry t-shirts by the bed so I could whip off the wet one and put on a dry one. Got so it hardly woke me up.
For the flashes & chills, there's nothing for it but blanket off / blanket on // blanket off / blanket on...
At work it's sweater off / sweater on // sweater off / sweater on ...
I sleep much better with a light cotton throw with an open weave. Forget anything synthetic, heavy, or that doesn't breathe.
AlexaP, I will post that beet & pear salad recipe. It's so good!

Beet and Pear Salad with Walnuts and Goat Cheese
This is a beautiful beet and pear salad recipe. The deeply colored, sliced beets are topped with sweet pears, goat cheese and a simple walnut vinaigrette. (note: I use Bragg’s organic BraggBerry dressing instead of making my own.)
Prep Time: 15 minutes / Cook Time: 1 hour / Total Time: 1 hour, 15 minutes
Serves: 4 if served as the first course / 2 if served as the main course
Ingredients:
2 large red beets, stems trimmed, washed
1 ripe pear, cored, sliced thin
1/2 cup toasted walnut halves
2 Tbsp sherry vinegar
2 Tbsp olive oil
2 Tbsp walnut oil
salt and fresh ground black pepper to taste
2 cups baby arugula leaves
4 oz goat cheese (I use the plain fresh soft goat cheese)Preparation:
Preheat oven to 375 degrees F.
Wrap the beets in foil, place in a small baking dish, and bake for 1 hour, or until tender (test with a small knife). Allow to cool completely. When cool, scrape off the skin with a knife, and slice the beets as thin as possible; reserve.
Fan the beet slices on four chilled salad plates. Top with the sliced pear and walnuts. In a small bowl whisk together the vinegar, olive oil and walnut oil. Season with salt and fresh ground black pepper to taste.
Toss the arugula with a couple tablespoons of the dressing, and divide on top of each salad. Top each plate with the goat cheese (grate fine if using firm, aged goat cheese, or simply crumble if using soft goat cheese).
Drizzle each beet and pear salad with more of the dressing and serve immediately. (note: while the pre-arranged salad is pretty, I keep the ingredients separate as they stay fresher if we don’t eat it up at one meal. I put out one bowl with the beets & pear slices, one with lettuce, one with toasted walnuts and one with goat cheese, and let people make their own salads.)0 -
Walked to and from an appointment today, so a mile or so, maybe a little more.

Alexa, good that DD starts now and doesn't wait to start exercising later in life. Tell her we are all rooting for her and the Voices also apply to her now.

Here you go....this really makes me accountable!
* get a notebook
* on page one write WEEK 1 (I go Monday through Sunday so I can use the weekend as 'catch up' if I need to).
* decide on how much aerobic exercise & how much toning you want to get that week
* on one side of the page write the word aerobics & write the word toning on the other
* write '15' (for 15 minutes) down the side of the page until you get to your goals
aerobics toning
15 X 15 X So let's say on Monday I walk on the treadmill for 45 minutes & did 15 minutes of abs.
15 X 15 X Tuesday I do 45 minutes of Zumba & 30 minutes of weights; this is what my chart
15 X 15 X looks like Wednesday morning. I aim for 4 hours of aerobics & 3 of toning a week,
15 X 15 although I might add another hour to the toning since I count yoga & pilates
_____________________ as toning.
15 X 15 The next week you turn the page and write WEEK 2 at the top, repeat......
15 X 15
15 15
15 15
_________________________________
etc. etc. until you have how many hours you want to get during the week

Alexa, what a great feeling to be able to inspire DD. Way to go!
No pickup basketball game while walking today Ruth? Understand why you walk indoors with your temps.
Today's exercise for me was running errands in between going to a couple annual doctor's appointments. Eye appointment in the a.m. and yearly gym check in the afternoon. Luckily, all is well.
Will go to bootcamp tomorrow night and expect to get some yoga/circuit training at home over the weekend. Media is hyping up a snowstorm for the weekend so let the hysteria begin

Thanks for the recipe badger! I got my steps in, plus an EXTRA 1000 steps and rode my stationary bike for 15 minutes. Feels good

badger, I did the same thing when I was pregnant and sweating through PJs at night - kept a change of tshirts next to the bed. Made it much easier and hardly upset my sleep.
