  • But Foots, don't forget that we need the rain...doesn't mean you can't go to FL, just that we can't complain about it (according to some theories). :)

Actually , my OCD compels me to say I'm concerned that there are no bugs. My goal is no creepy things i.e roaches and spiders------what bothers me is I can leave the doors open all day long and there are no flying things. Randomly, there is something like a drosphiliae----fruitfly. They don't last long--squish 'm.  We have seen a increase in hawks and a resultant decrease in birds. If a bird or butterfly or dragon fly gets in the screen enclosure , we use the net to catch or work them towards the doors. Have been lucky with the open door to the house that they haven't come in. Would be much more difficult to get them out. Do feel awful when I find a dehydrated dead lizard in the house. At times when I have found a lizard in the house I couldn't catch, I'd put down a water source, hoping they find a way to get out.

Sassy- you are going to have one fun party. There is another group of ladies on a different thread planning a rendezvous this June out in CA. I love how the ladies here find ways to meet up in different places. I hope to meet one or more of you some day.

And I am good with the biz insurance for now. The Hartford has the best policy for my work (IT consulting). They did handle a claim well for me on a stolen lap top. Quick efficient and a good replacement value. I appreciate you thinking of me with all your insurance research.

I fell asleep early for awhile so I am awake here close to midnight. I peeked outside a short time ago, as it was snowing pretty hard before I crashed and a good five inches on the ground. There may be more before this storm is over too! Three weeks to spring!

  • Hi Jazzy, all the leftovers from your snow storm is supposed to be headed to Ohio. We have weather advisories starting Saturday night through Monday. Send Spring East as fast as you can. Cleveland has the coldest February on record. Not a prize I ever wanted to win. :(

No one reacted to HYGIENE HYPOTHESIS post---------now a couple --the way the pages fly here many pages ago------included allergy stuff. There are things that change the way we live. What we need to do is recognize those moments. If you go back and read those links, it will connect to important things in life for you , kids, and grandkids.

The Immunology community is being tossed on it's ear Re: allergic response  and immune system. Because the research has shown that they have been wrong for the last maybe 15years. What will happen in that community is that they question all the precepts that they have lived by for decades.

Based on the Evidenced based research ---the Pediatric docs will start telling their patients to do a different thing.

What's good about this is---in the re-look many things considered  sacrosanct will be reconsidered.

To add to the revelations of this week if you haven't heard... Coffee is good--------3-4 cups a day,

Going to talk cholesterol and statins but going to find the evidence based stuff the announcements have been based on BBL

Beach- my friends in TX got a bunch of snow, now facing more ice storms (I lived in TX once and those are the worst). I hope the leftovers are not too bad for Ohio, but this is the most moisture laden storm we have seen this winter. And no doubt you have had the coldest Feb ever, that polar vortex your way has been wicked.

While I was up tonight, I saw an interesting segment on some new therapies they are developing at some of the universities and top cancer centers that are very interesting. All clinical trials and some will be FDA approved and on the market next year. It is on a show called VICE on HBO and find it if you can. Some interesting things going on in the research community that may help all of us.

A question was raised by PM............................................

If you saw my post about no rhyme no reason..... and MARK  "we no not the time ect.

I'm convinced we have a time. When that time is done. We move on.

WE are here to accomplish a purpose unknown to us.

If you ask anyone did they live through something they thought should have killed them? Rarely is the answer no.

    So close, but not dead.

Then others die in a moment. Others die after a prolonged state.

    WHY?

    No rhyme, no reason............

That's why I believe when it's our time, we will go-----name it or not name it.-------there is no rhyme or reason.

Unless, we  believe that we mean a difference to what is, then there is no point to life.

We are here until we are not here--birth to death

I believe there is more beyond, and the point of our existence in this lifetime is to make a difference.

And to stay until it's time to go.

  • Ladies, it is 3:20 AM here, when do you sleep?? I am still feeling the heat from rads today and itching like crazy. I swear I have poison ivy, or something poison. Driving me crazy, and the Aloe is just not stopping it tonight. Four more and I should be done. The RO said she will look at the skin as she wants to do a boost at the end. I think if she wants to do it, she should go ahead and do it, on herself! I am not volunteering for it. But being done with rads just gets me back to chemo again that much sooner......pick a swear word, insert here!

Beachie I have experience since 1969, but  hesitate to say anything- b/c chemo drugs outside what I have had----NO knowledge, no rads knowledge.

Can deal with itch under usual situation-----itch is a histamine response-- Benadryl. Itch can be calmed in many ways. I can offer many, but did you check in on the rads thread. Important b/c . not all treatments allow the next treatment to continue.

Ice packs----to area with a layer of protective cloth between you and skin, Very nice------posting now while thinking

Morning girls! Man, I slept late! Didn't get up till almost 6! Now I don't have as much time time on HERE, before DH gets up, and things start happening... Ha!

Sass you are right... Whatever it was you said.... you are right. My Brother used to say 'what is'..... is. Just like "We are here until we are not here." Period.... No matter what happens to us, or how or why, it can either take us out, or make us stronger for going through it. Except for my leg.

But it sure COULD have been worse...

DD brought me over some "WinterTrax" "A light duty traction device for winter safety on packed snow and ice".... You put them under your shoes, and they REALLY DO WORK! I put them on a pair of Crocs .... and I will leave them ON those, just to go outdoors with.... because you have to take them off when you come in the house, or go in a store!

So they will just stay on those shoes, and take them off when you go IN! But I walked on the icy "ramp" we have out back, and on the ice covered walk, and you cannot slip! Of course they won't keep you up if you step on a rock and twist your ankle...

But who was it that told me about them one year? Because it's like once you get hurt, you are even MORE afraid of falling face first for no reason! So that was my present she brought me for her Birthday....

    image

So maybe these would help any of you guys that live on this frozen tundra stuff....

And I can't meet with you guys..... Or stay all night... I would Love to lunch again, but DH would be on those trips, so I'll just meet for lunch, whenever... It was soooooo special that you guys DROVE to Celebration to meet me! Something I'll always remember.

It is 7 degrees out.... Don't know if we are going to get out... The side streets are just snow-packed... and the main streets are cleared mostly, but all that snow and ice is off to the sides... and they can't do anything with it yet... Frozen solid.

So those things for my shoes are like chains for tires... Ha! Spookie probably doesn't even know what those are.... All the truckers have to chain up before they go over any passes here.... just a hard winter for everyone.

Beach, I started that itching during rads. I found a gel at Walmart called Ocean Potion. It's primary use is for sunburn. It has arnica, tea tree, a few other things like that, and LIDOCANE. Numbs the itch. My RO approved it. I put a bit in an old pill bottle for my purse. It really helped.

Sassy- I totally agree with you about our time to transition. I rolled a car on black ice once in my 30s and walked away with out a scratch. The kind of accident most people don't walk away from. Then, a couple years ago, I had a ruptured appendix and my body formed an abscess to contain the infection. That one for sure should have killed me, but didn't (although I was in the hospital and very sick for 8 days with that one). When it's your time, it's your time.

    Meanwhile in New Mexico......

  • Hi Sass - the itch is mostly on my chest where the skin is very thin. My shoulder area on my back is tanned and has a rash but doesn't itch as much as the front. And the armpit is dark brownish red but doesn't itch. Some of the skin is peeling off the scar from my mastectomy. I was told to not use ice, just the Aloe. I have four more, not sure what the boost will do for me since I am Stage IV. Thanks

Led Zepplin fans listen up here! These kids are amazing!

  • M0mmyof2, are you getting snowed in down there? It's beautiful blue skies today and white puffy clouds over the frozen lake. We have a nice bed and breakfast in Sheffield Lake, and there is another one in Avon Lake. They are both on the beach side, right on the water. If you want to come up, I can get the info for you. Have a great evening.

Beachbum -sorry about the radiation itch. Try Benadryl or another antihistaminic by mouth. Also ask your doctor about a gel/cream with lidocaine - I had that as a prescription, but mostly because my area was so burnt it hurt as well. Ask them also if you could use one of over the counter corticoid creams for itching.

Jazzy - I just watched the VICE documentary about cancer (my husband recorded it for me). Isn't that amazing? I had heard about some if the research but I didn't know many details. For ladies who haven't watched it- it's about 3 cancer centers and 3 types of cancer. They have this trials in which they give patients genetically modified viruses and those attack specifically the cancer cells and DESTROY them. These are all patients that have tried everything else. The cancers are glioblastoma (brain), multiple myeloma and a little girl with leukemia. It really lifts up your spirit. I also know they are working to perfect a vaccine for breast cancer.

Rosie - the CCC map didn't show (I think ) all the CCCsFor example here in LA it only shows City of Hope, when in fact we have Norris CCC at USC (where I go and it's very good), the CCC at UCLA (excellent, with many clinical trials, they have the doctor that discovered Herceptin) and there's also Cedars with excellent doctors and plenty of clinical trials. Yet the map just shows City of Hope. So you might want to look for those other centers. If you're willing to try I can pm you a list of phase 1 clinical trials available at Cedars. Most of these trials are multicenter, so it's likely you might find a center closer to where you live.

Lots of hugs to you all, you are so funny and uplifting - I love the snow vs Florida debate :) As I said I'm going to keep my mouth completely shut about the weather here in SoCal, just a pic of my tangerine tree :)

OMD! A Tangerine tree??? It's a plant.... someone has invaded us and posted some sort of growing plant. It's a mirage.... things like that don't exist anywhere this time of year. She is spoofing us!

And is that GREEN grass, and some sort of wild Bromeliad? You must live in Jamaica... or Hawaii.... It has warmed up to 31.9.... And some of the piles of snow are melting. The ones in the sun, anyway.

But seeing that picture gives me hope......

Hahaha Spookie you are so funny! You could kick sand in Chevy's face while she throws snow balls! The mock war between the South and the North!

Ohhh when we lived in Sacto we had a rather pathetic orange tree in the back yard that produced literally shopping bags full of the sweetest oranges! I brought a bags in for Days, PMs and Nights free fruit for lunches and we still had tons that rotted. We made OJ and ate them till we burst! So good, but way more then one family can eat. Ibgal- love your tangerine tree! Chevy they are real... sorry.

I should be quiet... it's sunny and 60degrees and the tulip trees are budding, daffodils out, crocus up, Camillias full on... buds every where.. but the nights still go down to 35 degrees. Sun is my friend..love sunny days.

Ibgal- I am tired and want to leave. I stopped all meds, not swallowing another thing. Zip zero... not happy. Need to move on. If I try anything then that just keeps me in a miserable situation longer. yuck. Thanks for suggestions and I am glad you like where you are. I wouldn't trust anyone here if they told me what time it was.. unless I had a watch on.

Ah geez Rosie..... I don't blame you..... Sometimes we have just had ENOUGH! Whether it is an illness or something else we are going through..... And we get to the point, that you think "what's the use!" You just feel like giving up....

I remember just one time..... I got to that point..... All I could do is drop down on my knees across the bed and sob..... But then I couldn't just "stay" there..... I had to get up, and figure it out.... And sometimes you just don't know how....

But maybe another day, something will make you feel better.... or you find a way to deal with it..... Or a friend helps you by just listening..... We're here..... thinking about you.

So I LOVE those Pink Grapefruit! I've been buying them like crazy! Cutting them up, freezing them, because I know they will be out of season, and I can't find them anymore!

I made some Sausage/Kale/Potato & Leek soup! Just like the one from Olive Garden..... A little 1/2 & 1/2 & flour to thicken it..... You guys want to come over?

Chevy, it must be the weather, my cousin made a pot of it today too. Unfortunately, it was really hot when she served it to me in my recliner, the bowl on a chinet plate which proceeded to buckle and spill half the bowl on my arm, burning it. No, I don't have enough misery today, thanks, just that rotting skin on my chest from the rads, oh, and there's that whole arthritis/fibro thing. I'm just going to retire.

When I was young I had a major case of chronic suicidal depression. Outgrew it in my 30's. It was an addictive coping mechanism then. But tbh, there have been a bunch of times since this began that I have just prayed it would be over. And I'm only stage 3. Rose, I truly do understand. When is enough too much?

  • Magdalene51, sorry about your arm, just what you don't need is anything else burning today. I can't stop itching today from rads. Thankfully I only have 4 more.

When is enough too much? I guess when the person carrying the burden decides it is. I get it, and one day I will have to choose when I have had enough. I just hope I know when to pick.

Ibgal- yes, the Vice segment was certain was encouraging. I was struck by the one comment one researcher said about cancer being like 300 kinds of disease. And that they may be finally finding some things that get rid of this crap once and for all.

Mags- you have been to hell and back a few times through this. No doubt you have not had some dark days along the way. I am glad you are almost done. Better days are coming.

Calling for freezing rain tonight. YUCK!
