Hello! I'm new to the discussion boards, and my new friend ruthbru suggested this topic as I'm a runner and fitness enthusiast. I'm so glad to have found you all. Just finished radiation and started Arimidex so living in fear of bone loss, muscle/joint pain, and weight gain. Two weeks on the AI and so far feeling pretty darn good. Determined to keep running and LIVING my life.
I took a bad fall last week running my dog, so I'm nursing sore knee this week. Ran a mile, walked a mile, 15 minutes lifting and some pilates and stretching. Slow day but I continue to move!
I look forward to getting to know you all better!

Welcome Meljo!
It's been a really busy week but I ran Sat and today. Went to Pilates on Sunday. Two more days of rads and then off to Italy! I plan on taking my running shoes but not sure how much time I'll have.

Wow LA! Italy? How exciting! We are doing my post rads celebrating in Mexico in a few weeks. I'm so excited to swim with the dolphins 😀. Working on my beach body!

Welcome Missy and Meljo614. Missy when I first started at the gym I couldn't do anything so I used to get on the treadmill for 5 minutes then move to the bike and then when I started I could only do a minute on the stair climber, I used to pretend that was exactly my routine I worked from one minute to two minutes and then one day I wa on the stair climber talking to a friend for 45 minutes, so start slowly and build. LARock have a wonderful trip Itay is on my wish list. Meljo i I think you will find the exercise really will help with the AI side effects.
Sh'bam and Body Pump today.

Welcome meljo! Glad you came over to join us in the 'Girls Just Wanna Have Fun' thread!
Definitely, moving is the key to keeping limber, minimizing bone loss, keeping the weight down....everything..... (with or without Als, actually).Italy and Mexico? Geez, I had the wrong idea; I celebrated the end of rads by going back to school (I was a teacher & did rads in the summer....just finishing three days before the new school year started.)
I am off to Cardio Sculpt in a couple minutes & plan to do Zumba tonight.

Another welcome for Missy and Meljo! I'm much like Cheryl - the first time I hopped on the elliptical after chemo, I lasted for 5 minutes before I was exhausted, and had been going so slowly that the machine kept blipping off. I also started a Gentle Yoga that same week - I could only hold a couple of the poses for a few seconds, and spent a lot of time resting during those early classes. But I found as I kept at it, things got better and better, and it will for you too! Meljo - since you're a runner, check out the running thread as well. I started running a few years ago and found I love it.
Italy and Mexico - wow. Sounds like fun!
Met with the realtor last night. We had 4 (!) offers on the house, and the lowest was for the full asking price. We ended up signing a contract for $12K over the asking price, so we're tickled. The buyer is pre-approved, so pending the appraisal and inspection, it looks like it has a good chance of going through. I can't wait for settlement and to get my furniture moved to the new house - sleeping on a blow up bed is rapidly losing its charm.

I need to check out the "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun" thread! Too much going on. I lost it a couple of days ago and snapped at a couple of people (in response to someone just doing stuff out of line). Ate serious crow, but made my point. I did two 45 mile cycling events the two weekends following rads. Mexico and Italy sound more fun though.
Speaking of Mexico, I do have an invite for Cabo once my friend Sarah gets settled there. I will be going. The price of admission???? Make my fab pate while visiting. I can do this!!!
Loving the longer days and need to get in a run tonight. Got home just a tad late last night, so downsized to a walk. Gorgeous spring here. Scent of the flowering trees is amazing.
Have a great day everyone! - Claire
Added: Mary....congrats on the house!!! Way to go. I don't get blow-up beds at all. I would have gone the folding cot route....much more comfortable. Or one time when I think furniture rental might pay. When I moved a year ago, the first thing I made sure was set up was my bed. I fell into it at the end of the move.0 -
Thanks everyone for your warm welcome to this thread

I have been going to the gym and combined with dieting I have managed to lose 13lb of the weight I gained during chemo.
It was a beautiful Spring day with blue skies in Yorkshire today so went for a hour walk around the neighbourhood.
Feel so grateful to be alive and thankful for every day that I am well

Claire, THIS is the 'Girls Just Want to Have Fun" thread!!!! You are already here!

Nats, congratulations on the quick house sale. That is awesome!
We are so glad that you are here, Sandie, and I believe that we can all echo our own gratitude to be alive and kicking (or running, or dancing, or biking, or swimming, or.......fill in the exercise of your choice!).

No formal exercise this week. I am getting out for a daily walks with my hubby. The reaction to RADs will keep me from the gym until the skin heals so enjoying the unusually warm weather and longer days to get those walks in.

It was rainy here all day! I did 50 min of circuit training.

hbcheryl, excellent advice! Mixing it up and moving from one machine or activity every few minutes really helps ease into a fitness routine without feeling overwhelmed.
ruthbru, so happy to be here. LOVED the pic you posted with your friend in your 'Kiss my Shamrocks' shirts. I'm collecting all my run shirts to make myself one of those memory quilts. (Well, I'll have to pay someone to make it since I'm not crafty, but definitely going to get one!) BTW, I was born and raised in South Dakota. I live in WI now but us 'Dakotans' need to stick together :-)
Today:
* Brisk 1 mile warm-up walk with my puppy in the jogging stroller (her chariot). Ha!
* 2 1/2 mile run. Knee still sore from fall but braced it which helped.
* Followed run with 10 minutes of vigorous free-style dancing in the kitchen. My house is a fishbowl. I'm sure my neighbors are still laughing
. * Finished with a few minutes of free weights, pilates, and stretching. Good night!!

Good suggestion hbcheryl on mixing up on the different machines. I will try that next time going to the gym. As I am still easing into my "formal" routine.

Me and my running buddy/bestie. I'm the one in the sunglasses :-) This year will be my first Susan G. run as a survivor. Thinking it will be pretty emotional...

I have been off the boards but have been exercising each day. On Sunday, I ran my first 5k of 2015. I was glad I kept my pace from last fall. Not fast but the treadmill has kept me from losing ground.
Ruth- our Christmas lights are still up. The snow is still too deep so we cannot get into our yard yet to take them down.

Great picture, meljo! My shamrock friend is a BC survivor too, there's a lot of us out there moving & grooving
. What part of SD are you from? DH was from Britton & had relatives in Aberdeen, Brookings, and Sioux Falls. And what part of Wisconsin do you live in now? My mom's family lives in the Eau Claire area so we get that far into the state every once and awhile.I am going to yoga this morning & am subbing this afternoon (which will be an exercise in patience.....8th graders on Friday afternoon).

Mary congratulations on all of the offers, I thought maybe you'd rented a furnished place when I saw all the furniture was still in place. Claire as I was driving the freeway last night I commented how much I like the longer days much easier to see those cars that won't let you in as you're trying to get out of the car pool lane and across four lanes of traffic!! Ginger congratulations on your first 5k of the season. Meljo nothing wrong with dancing like no one is watching.
My friend who is here from the UK went fishing last weekend and came home with the cold we've all had, poor guy hasn't golfed all week which is unheard of so be careful it's still going around, I am disinfecting everything as I don't want to get it again.
Last night did Body Jam - I sure do love to dance.

Ruth, I was born and raised in Mobridge. My parents moved to Aberdeen when I was in college and my dad is still there. My husband is from Aberdeen as well and he has family in Rapid City. We now live in a small city north of Milwaukee. Where in ND are you? I have family in Oakes. Good luck with your 8th graders! I can barely stand to work with adults on Friday. Hahaha... My mom was a teacher too--it's a calling for sure :-)
Ginger - yay on the 5K

NatsFan, congrats on house sale! Thanks for the tip on the running thread. Will definitely look for that.
Sandie, thumbs up on the weight loss. Whatever you are doing, it's working! Keep it up.
Not sure what's on the agenda for exercise today. Will post later. DH wants to do a fish fry tonight so I better come up with a real burner. I'm off to shop for a swim suit for Mexico. Always a challenge. Ugh!

Great fit photo, meljo and welcome! Mary, success!! Well done for all the hard work and over the asking price, out of the ballpark! Good for you Sandie on the weight loss.
Ran 3 miles during the eclipse this morning. Cloud cover (boo) yet had on my white fleece and got to perhaps18% grey of darkness. Another day of exercise on planet earth!

3/20- happy Spring everyone!
Today I did a 30 min of resistance training in the machines, another 15 min of focused work on abs, then 30 laps in the pool!

Welcome to all the newcomers!! So inspiring.
Mary, congrats on the sale of the house above asking price.
Went to bootcamp last night and hit the gym after work today for a 35 minute jog on the treadmill plus weights.

Welcome Meljo! Great picture.
Nats: So happy for you!
Hi All. Just a quick check in. I "walked" with Leslie Sansone's CD tonight. Tomorrow is suppose to be nice so I'll be active outside. Good night!

Got a good walk in today. Enjoyed some outside weather. Then took Norco and relaxed. Hope to get back to a more "formal" exercise routine soon. But I am trying to keep active without over doing it.
Wonderland, it is suppose to be nice here tomorrow too. This past week has just been gorgeous but we need rain, rain, rain.
Mary, congrats on the house that was quick!
Have a great weekend everyone.

Gee Cheryl, you better quarantine your poor guest!
Congratulations Ginger on your run!!!!
I just did 45 minutes on the treadmill. We are back to not very spring-like weather around here.
I am loving what Lilac said at the end of her post and think it should be our motto, maybe adding the word 'Loving' to the beginning:
(Loving) Another day of exercise on planet earth!

I haven't been posting because I haven't been exercising. Rads is wearing me down a bit mentally and physically, and I'm having a hard time getting myself off the couch for even a walk. That said, my DH did get me out for a mile or so yesterday, with our dog. That was nice.

Walking IS exercise!!!! Hang in there, Cassie, just do what you can. When is the last day of rads? We will celebrate it with you!

CassieCat, I caught a horrible virus right in the middle of rads. Ran 102 degree fever for two days, couldn't breathe, ferocious coughing, headaches, etc. Felt like I was going to die. I missed two rads and three days of work. It was the sickest I had ever been in my life. I wasn't able to exercise at all for a couple weeks due to the fatigue and coughing, and it about drove me crazy. I was so grateful for that first day that I felt like myself again. It reminded me of something my mom used to always say to me in times of struggle... "This too shall pass!" Please try to remember that you will get through this. Be kind to yourself and don't push too hard. Better days are coming!!

Exercise for me yesterday was a 3-mile run/walk with my son's German Shepherd. Always a workout with that guy; he's an energetic maniac!
Today I did a 1 1/2 mile warm-up walk with my little pup than another 4-mile run/walk with the Shepherd followed by a few minutes of pilates and weights. We are going out to dinner tonight--prime rib (a rare splurge for me). I can't even remember the last time I ate beef. Can't wait :-)

Ruth we had a whole weekend of plans, birthday party this afternoon, tomorrow afternoon I have tickets for a musical at the OC Performing Arts Center and tomorrow night we have tickets for Soka University, there is a performing arts school in south county and they perform opera pieces, he absolutely love opera and really looks forward to it as the kids are fabulous and the hall at Soka was designed by the same architect who designed the Disney theatre in downtowm LA so it is a wonderful experience so now I'm scurrying trying to find some to go with me instead as he is confined to the recliner.
Cassie as meljo says, this too shall pass it's hard to do but you have the foundation laid and as your tiredness slowly passes you will fall back into exercise. LB it's always the way with the eclipse, they talk it up a storm and then boom cloud cover but at least you got to see some of it.
Did Body Combat this morning then went for a pedicure, going to see my bestie from Tennessee this afternoon as she is out here on business so she's coming to the party I'm going to, excited to hang out with her even if it is only for a few hours.
