Goats--I hope you went for the more power on the disposal! I had a 1/4 hp that the builder installed when the house was brand new and it made me crazy because it was always jamming. My dad installed a 3/4 hp one a few years back (dad's a retired engineer but can pretty much do any home repair, thank heaven, so when a single girl gets in over her head, she's got someone on standby). The new one will chew threw anything and I learned enough watching my dad that if I ever have to replace another one, I can probably do it myself.
Lover--enjoy the visit. Your encounter with the very cute Angus steers reminded me of a girls' trip to Maui many years ago. We accidentally went off-roading on a dirt road on the backside of the Road to Hana (where one is technically not supposed to take a rental car) and as we crested an hill in the road, we came upon a Brahma bull standing smack in the middle of the road. "Whoa, that..is..one ..BIG..BULL!" I said to my city-slicker friend (I estimated the fella to weigh about 2000 lbs.). "How do you know it's a bull?" my friend asked. "Well, you see those two huge things hanging down between his legs?" And so we sat, with a line of rental cars behind us that were also violating their rental agreements, until that bull decided he'd had enough of standing in the middle of the road and moved on. The wait was well worth it because I saw the most beautiful sunset that I've ever seen, there on the backside of Maui, looking down on the little islet of Molokini.

I'm excited! My dog park was featured on the Front Page of my paper!!!! We may get a new one, or relocated!!!!!! Because of the serious flooding all summer. Also had some nice pics of friends & pooches.

yay Spookiesmom, Spookie, and Kris........Dunedin is a great place to live except for traffic. Nice neighborhoods, parks, water, RESTAURANTS(lots), night life, festivals. She lives there I don't. I live in the opposite type place of activity.

Good to know Sas--my theory as to why it worked with me is that my seroma was from a back-up of lymph somewhere around the lateral or central axillary nodes. I only had lymphedema in my arm when my seroma got big (tennis ball sized) so by engaging the pectoral group to start pumping lymph away from the area, it gave the lymph back-up in my arm somewhere to move.

Must have caught some 24 hr bug - N/V D... yuck... I was up at the cabin and no zofran.. it was back home. Boohoo. To add to my misery some dang bug or spider had a feast on my left (Lymphadema) arm all along the inside. I have like over 30 bites, clustered red blistery types. A few itch but I don't have much sensation after the node disection- which might be good! Anyway I am a bit concerned that I don't get cellulitis from all these bites.. my elbow hurts it's bright red and hot.. The dang bug/spider couldn't eat the right arm - nooo it goes for the swollen left arm. What luck..
Then there were a bunch of minor set backs.. DH had sun damage from not wearing sunglasses with his very blue light eyes.. new glasses are in order. Finally nagged him enough to go in. Why don't men listen? We really nag for a reason. I did get "you know you were right it's been 5 years since I was in last, and there were issues and changes." The fantastic tutor we thought we scored for 7 weeks has to take a summer masters class and quit. My DD was just so sad. I really liked this tutor and so did DD. We are trying to up English scores. It's not easy when you are deaf and English is a second language and you can't use phonics! I am a little bummed.
Spookie- love the small dog park article. I stopped going to dog parks because our little dogs got hurt, chased and in one case bitten! Hope everyone is doing well. Howdies.

This is a post I sent to the Mods. They posted back with enthusisim about sending it on. Plus, agreed I could repost it to you all. The point being. Is we all make our own discoveries. Our discoveries can change the world.. I have sent many suggestions to the Mods over the years. The one that had the biggest impact was to develop a 'Foros de discusión en español ". I said at the time Spanish. Nancynow and I were here at 5-6am in the morning and a gal comes on and spoke ---wrote little English. We stayed with her till we could and then I PM 'd the Mods with---they took it from there and got it done. They're were many other things

I did full range of Motion the day after BMX. Pre-op I researched history on the limited rage of motion practice. They're has been no real studies done on it(2009, haven't done a relook). They only thing I could find was a referral to not dislodging the drain. I did very gentle 12'oclock to 8'olock movement the morning after surgery. No frozen shoulders. I did develop a seroma, but that was b/ the drain was removed early b/c the entry site was very iffy for infection. The Cleveland Clinic is doing the procedure without drains as a study. To my knowledge they haven't published yet.Historically, what I think has happened is from the early days of radical mastectomy shoulder immobilization was determined to be a correct treatment. That was 1900. As I stated above they're hasn't been a relook at the issue. I know that this seems incredulous. But it seems a small issue to the docs---ergo, not needed for a restudy. This immobilization can create another layer of disability where it doesn't have to happen.
Please, be aggressive in seeking out the information. If you don't find peer reviewed studies--Evidence Based Research supporting immobilization----push buttons to get it done. You have the power. Thanks----sassy

Sassy--and you are also onto something. With my second knee surgery 20 years ago (a tibial tubercle transfer or TTT), I went to one of the top orthopedic/sports medicine surgeons in the country (Kerlan-Jobe, the same people that work with the Dodgers, Lakers and many others). My surgeon had me in a motion machine immediately after surgery. In addition, knowing what horrible muscle atrophy I had after my first surgery (VMo advancement), following surgery #2 I did exercises to maintain every other muscle in my leg that didn't involve moving my patella. The result was a much faster recovery time and I impressed my surgeon so much that he offered me a job. So why aren't we applying those principles to routine surgeries?

You were not a charge nurse were you? If it gets worse I will. - I do so hate going to the doctor.. ER is out.. but I had pretty severe cellutitis around the drains on my left side 07 - literally 2 days after I saw the surgeon (a week after mastectomy) and the damn thing looked perfect! No signs of infection then flash - a wild fire broke out. The adhesions just did me in, took months of PT working it loose, to be able to lift my arm over my head. I have no interest in a repeat. Amazing how fast an infection can move. I really would like to hear how the lymph transplants work out in that link you sent.

Rosie LOL I'm an old Operating room(Dept) nurse that left the OR. Rarely happens. When it does we make the rest of the world around us nuts. In the OR we are known as OR Bitches by the Docs. Reason is we are Bitches. We run the show. The Docs worked on our command. We laid in wait for new residents to make a mistake. Their usual thing as a new resident would be to throw stuff on the floor. We'd straighten them up real fast. Then go back in the lounge and share stories and laugh our asses off.
What was cool about that experience is my next job was training paramedics/emt's. Had to deal with lot's of fire chiefs. Some were human. Others were peacocks. If I hadn't had the OR experience, those chief's would have rolled right over me. Didn't happen.
Marley, brings back a memory. In that time, I changed history many times for where I was. OHH so many. But the thought at the moment is I took the civil service exam for the major city. I was a teacher. I was 29. I did it b/c I wanted to see how tough the test was. At the test we were told that we wouldn't be given our scores if we passed our 30th B-day. I would. The scores came in, I was denied mine.
Pissed me off for multiple reasons. I was the first one done. The second person done was one of my brightest students. We looked at each other and the room of a several hundred. We were both aged out. He was a veteran. We were both told we wouldn't get our score.
When the scores came in I was in a meeting with the top level brass. I asked them to pull strings--they wouldn't. They knew my score.
I told them that they made it hard for me not to sue. What? Age and sex discrimination. Age they used the excuse of pension----not going to fly if I don't care about retirement. Sex---I told them about the errors that the department made historically. They never had an agility exam before a woman applied. The Chief of several years ago boasted that he designed an agility exam that no woman could pass. Any line fireman could tell that story. A court case would be won in a heart beat. Plus, if an agility exam was important at entry level it had to be relevant to maintenance i.e all line fireman had to maintain the same agility as the day of the test if the test was valid. They went pale on that one. LOL
I gave them the example of the women police suit in Detroit--my twins job--Discrimination---Men could have a high school diploma or GED--a woman had to have a associate degree to be hired. Detroit lost.
The Department dropped the age rule and actively recruited woman. Regretfully, I did not get my score.
Okay, OCD, I didn't sue b/c I took the test as a teacher to guide future students. I was in a job that I liked---I was just trying to help. I didn't want to be a firefighter. Didn't know I would cause all the changes that happened-----------

Orthopedically, advances have occurded b/c of wars. That's an awful thought, but true historically. Women's issue's have always been negated or ignored. Laws had to be passed to get us included for everything from Suffrage to inclusion of studies.
They're was a female doc on the west coast that was asked by her patient if she should take Aspirin. That doc realized that she didn't know and that the studies had only been done on men. Outcome is that doc fought for legislation for all drug trials to include women. It happened.

Marla.... I'm so afraid of garbage disposals! And in this old house, with these old pipes, it's best we don't USE the one we have! We try and just scrape and rinse all of our dishes, and clean out fry-pans before we wash anything! And I don't have a dish-washer either...
See, this little house was built in 1886, and could not withstand any thing too modern or fast disrupting the pipes...!
We DO have an automatic washer, but even THAT was a problem trying to get it to drain without it backing up, because it was so FAST. So DH put a HOLE in through the wall, in back of the washer, and connected a hose OUT of the wall, down, and then under some brick-work, and into my garden area, UNDER the ground about 2 feet, connecting to a stand-pipe, through which the water from the SINK goes, and THEN out in the alley to the main sewer-line.
We only paid $24,000 for this little house... in about 1970... but been here since 1964... And I'll stay until I can't MOVE anymore... Ha! This area has been growing like willd-fire... Now the house & property is worth about $370,000! We know some developer will buy it someday, and scrape it, and build ANOTHER one of those 3 story townhomes that are going up around here whenever an old house sells...

I took Lacee to a dog-park once... and all the other dogs LOVED her... but they were all HUGE, and they all drooled all over her fur, and just kept circling her... with all their slobber, so we finally gave up and left... Ha! Gave her a good bath when we got back home...
Yes.... I was very protective of her.... We did all her social-networking on our walks, and with the neighbor dogs... Ha!

That happened to me once... See, it started out as people always asking me questions about my Company.... Coors...! And about making beer, and what was THAT used for... So I started re-searching all the questions, and then compiled them in a folder, for other tour-guides to use.... There was a library up on the 5th floor of the brewery, so that's where I got a lot of information...
Then I found a bunch of old slides! And I developed a "tour", set to this music by Maradi or something like that... I would "talk to them as the slides were showing... And I would take this "show" to nursing homes, and present "Coors on Tour" to all the residents.... (Because my Grandma was in one, and those folks couldn't get out) So I took it to THEM!
THEN I over-heard a few SENIOR people talking about their "on the road tour".... And they were doing the SAME thing I was, only they just made it as their own...
I went to my friend the supervisor, and said "how come they DID that, when it was my idea, and I have been doing it?"
So THEN I wrote a book, called A Rose and a Glass of Beer.... A story about Coors, the family, the history of beer, prohibition, and all about malting, PLUS my whole tour.... And it had pictures, and articles, and I dug up old pictures from the basement archives... And it had EVERYthing about Coors and brewing beer, and Malting.
So I finally got a team, who filmed my tour, even out by the rail-lines, malt-house, etc..... I then watched it in the studio, and dubbed in the rest.... I got to travel to California twice, to give the "Coors on Tour" to the Distributor meetings, and they printed about 300 or my books to give away.... I got to Interview Bill & Pete Coors, and gave books to the family.... I had a great time there...!
And to this day I still cannot drink ANY kind of beer.... I just don't like the "taste"... Ha! I loved the company and what they stood for... but everything changes, and I was just lucky to be part of that "family" during those years.

Chevy- yes, it has been a good trip. I drove home in some crazy rain from my biz function Thursday night and saw flooding starting and stalled cars around. I have an SUV and plowed on through and was glad to get to the hotel. I am driving over to Crestone today and glad things are cleared up. I head home later tomorrow after visiting with a friend there.
Hope everyone has a good weekend. Time to get on the road again!
