Badger you are correct it was Mary Louise who originally shared that video and lovely pictures of your Mom and family. Ruth great plank form you showed them young uns a thing or two. Odie congratulations, big high five. Claire your photo shoot sounds like fun and how nice to have a professional do your make up, what a treat. Enjoy your family visit Annie. Scottie will be thinking of you tomorrow, good luck
Went to Spin class yesterday and then did some retail therapy and then today just so I could feel virtuous I stopped at the gym and did RPM on my way to lunch with the San Diego BCO ladies.

All went well with the photo shoot. Don't have final pix yet, but thrilled with what I saw as proofs. YAY, another one off my plate. Also negotiated a project price that works both ways. Things are looking up.
To help with the negotiation, I contacted my old market research client. She was most helpful, but went both ways. Just in case you need to know the finer points of "partial least squares regression". I know it now.
Off to bed as lots going on in the AM. A wine bar friend treated me with 1/2 bottle of lovely champagne, so feeling that as well. Plus....heard from my guy who was MIA. He is with his parents doing "good son" duty. A banner day. - Claire

Badger, like the link to brass band chemo finish and photos are super - same to you Ruth and good upper-arm muscles! Scottie, I too am thinking of you and Claire, like your photo shoot. Cheryl, the seed has been planted and took me a few months to make a decision. There are noticeable changes in going from member to instructor. Hi Twohobbies and Kindergarten, good on the yoga!
I've still got a lower back muscle twinge from May that can't seem to shift so this afternoon going to see Sarah, the physio I had due to frozen shoulder of diep surgery and see if she can assess and make this annoying pain be gone.

Cheryl - what an honor for your instructor to offer to mentor you to being an instructor! I know it's a lot, but if you did it, you might be able to make exercise a lot less scary for some newbies. Lots of instructors are annoyingly athletic 20-somethings, and that can be scary to those of use who, ahem, don't quite fit that category. It's a lot less scary and more encouraging to see someone who looks like me up there leading the class. When I took my running clinic last fall, I was worried that everyone would be a young, skinny runner. I was very pleased to see that many of the coaches were older and actually looked normal weight, or were even packing a few extra pounds - I felt a lot more comfortable because they looked a lot more like me!
Lilac - hope you can get that pesky lower back resolved once and for all. Ruth - show those youngsters how it's done! Odie - congrats on the good checkup. I go to my onc tomorrow and am hoping for similar good news. Badger - great pix!
We took a nice 15 mile bike ride along the upper C&O Canal yesterday. I see a few people from the DC area are posting here now - if you're looking for something different to do, the NPS C&O Canal Visitor Center up in Williamsport, MD (at the 100 mile point of the Canal) offers free bike rentals - and they even throw in a helmet if you don't have one. Biking the Canal tow path is great - it's shady and flat, and you get some spectacular views of the Potomac. You also don't have all the crowds like you have in the lower part of the Canal by Carderock or Great Falls. That area has a lot of history attached - there were some Civil War engagements along that area of the Canal, and before that George Washington actually visited there and considered it for the location of the new capital before settling on a site on the Potomac further south. The NPS has a good visitor center with exhibits all about the Canal. It's a great day trip from DC.

Saturday I mowed my lawn 70minutes and walked the dog 15. Sunday I went to the lake and walked 50 minutes. Today I think I'll rest although my dog wants me to walk!

Nats fan, thanks for the DC tip about the upper canal. I'll mention it to my history buff husband.
Walked 30 around the lake today before the serious heat wave hits. Hope to swim tomorrow.

Yoga this morning, Zumba tonight, and actually cleaned the house in-between!

Getting even more mental than physical exercise which was a 5k run (including bee sting).
Just got my professional photo back and am THRILLED!!! I had to lighten up a bit prior to posting as was a bit too dark for LinkedIn. This is the original which looks just fine here. I think professional, edgy, fit, and on top of my game. - Claire

You look like a movie star!
4 mile waddle on a full tummy..

Beautiful picture Claire. LB hope you get twinge worked out with some nice massage. TH resisting 'puppy dog eyes' is one of the hardest things to do, we have a black lab who has perfected the 'yes I am really really hungry, I haven't eaten in oh an hour or so please please please feed me' you tell him to go away then you feel guilty as he puts his head down and leaves the room all dejected. Littleblue at least you got up and waddled
As to the instructor invitation, maybe when I retire, I know how hard these guys work doing all the prep learning new releases every 3 months, here they even do classes together to get ready to launchTonight did Body Combat class.

I have not been on here much this past week. Most of my exercise has been PT related.
I got to go to 2 concerts. On Thursday night, I saw Kelly Clarkson and her warm up act was my favorite acapella group, Pentatonix. They were both fabulous!
Then on Saturday night, we went to see Taylor Swift in concert. She was great! I did not get home till 2 am and my allergies are kicking my butt this weekend. Back to PT in the morning and I have my oncology check up on Wednesday.
I agree that couch to 5k is a great app for anyone who wants a sensible way to start running. It worked great for me last summer.

Nice photo Claire. Sarah my physio diagnosed verve in L5 is the problem and she worked on it and gave me exercises to do and I'll see her next week. Yes Cheryl, a sports massage would be good.

Claire - great photo! Ginger - your concerts sound wonderful. The Taylor Swift concerts here got rave reviews, so know yours must have been good.
C25K, Week 8, Day 2 - one more day to go. Wish me luck everyone - I have my annual onc visit today!

Good luck Mary!
Thanks everyone for the great feedback on the photo. Really important to have the right image for the work I am doing. The other one is fine for "Board Member" but not for member of a team doing millennials research.
Back to my project work. - Claire

Good luck Mary and I'm feeling all will be well for you.
Went to body balance today and because of operation stack, instructor could not get in, so I taught it. Cover is becoming a more lucrative if able to make it to the gym.

Cardio Sculpt and, since it was very nice out, I walked just for fun.
Good luck, Mary!

I hope your visit was uneventful, Mary. I have mine tomorrow in Boston where the forecast is 100 degrees!
I did my PT exercises today and 20 min cardio on the elliptical and stepper. Then I sweated out 5 hours of work in my classroom. It is super hot here today!

Hi guys -
I don't really post here, but I do exercise! I have had bad knees with tamox, and 1 meniscus repair a year ago...but I started running just to try it. I can now run a 5k, without stopping...big stuff for me!
So on my off days, I am trying to add in some core work with my yoga. I have been trying for years to do a chaturanga..or even a simple pushup. I cant seem to 'find" my chest muscles. I simply can't do pushups. I can do a comical butt high in the air girly one. And I can push up against a wall, but I cannot seem to engage my chest - I simply fall to the floor. It's ridiculous. Has anybody with a double mx conquered pushups, or have any advice?

Claire-Beautiful photo!
Went for a 4 mile run today and rode my bike. We are having to workout early, as the heat is on here is Deep South Texas..

Hello all, I love reading the posts and being encouraged to keep getting out there!
I did 30 minutes around the lake again before the worst of the heat. And am down another pound.

geewhiz- welcome. I am sure someone will come along soon with an answer. I could not do a push-up before surgery and still cannot.

Mary hope your visit was uneventful, Ginger good luck for tomorrow. Lab how nice for the members that you were able to sub. Hi geewhiz okay you can do the push up on your knees, get down on hands and knees take your hands out to the side parallel to your shoulders, scooch yourself up so your knees are up to maybe under your hips then roll/push forward and down.
Tonight did 30 minutes of RPM the Body Jam class.0 -
Beautiful photo, Claire! Cheryl, way to have the moves!
LB, hope the massage therapy works. I am doing some exercises at another gym with some special equipment for the back. But I was also doing physio and acupuncture so I only know the 3 mode combination worked to relieve aches and pains on my back as a result of my neck injury. One can do some of the exercises with regular gym equipment though, I found. Here is a video (scroll down the page) for an idea:

Geewhiz, congrats on doing 5K! I need to get back to that C25K as it's been at least a year since I did 5K (Great job, Mary!). I also have the same problem doing one pushup. I found this video for people like us and will try it and see how far I get. It looks like a C25K for pushups.

Yesterday was Badminton with DD, "five" exercises, and Zumba.

Gee, I have resigned myself to doing 'girlie' pushups from the knees.
No Wednesday Walking Women picture from me today. The main group went for an overnight at the lake cabin of one of our friends. I stayed home for the happy reason that tomorrow we will be heading to Wisconsin for the surprise 80th birthday party of my dear uncle. We will pick up my brother & sister-in-law in the Twin Cities (and take in a Twins game on Friday night) before heading to Wisconsin for some family reunion time.
Today I went to yoga, walked, and will go to Zumba tonight. Also today I did yard work because we had a big wind storm last night so there were branches lying all over the place.

Geewhiz I have been told that I will never be able to do push ups, planks or pullups after BMx, so I'm also curious if anyone has been able to. I was blessed to work up to 10 lb weights. I'm trying to keep the attitude that if I work hard enough on my recovery there will be no limitations.
Working up to 5k after meniscus repair is fantastic. I have a degenerated L4/L5 disk from an old injury. My hiking and treadmill work for the past 6 months has done wonders but I can't run yet. Maybe by the end of the year if I get back to it as soon as PS clears me from EX.

Hi all, I swam for 15 minutes, 8 laps (if those who know can tell me a lap is one go, not up and back in a standard pool lap lane). If so it was 4 laps. I was a bit afraid, gentle with the left arm. But really enjoyed it. You all inspire me.

Reader that's really great. I was a WSI in college. PS told me swimming would be very hard after BMx. She's right. I tried a few times. Hoping PT will help as I want to be able to swim this winter.

Its so hot here, that I haven't been able to do any excercise, but I have been doing laundry. Think that is good enough til this heat wave breaks

I think if you keep carefully working at it, most things come back.....it takes time though.
