Unless you have more pride than I do, the point is to finish anything such as a half marathon. One of my wine bar friends and her guy go around the country doing half marathons. They have a blast and a great way to see new places.
I successfully upgraded to Windows 10 yesterday! Good riddance Windows 8 and 8.1. Much cleaner operating system, and fixed a number of little things that had gone wrong with 8.1 so no error messages. Major step forward. One good thing is that it remembers your passwords so you don't have to go on a password hunt afterwards.
Dinner with my former intern and her husband was great fun. I am going to get Nethra out on a bicycle or on a hike while he is off at a family wedding in India. Before I selected a place for dinner, she had warned me that he normally prefers not to eat heavy red meat, but guess who scarfed down the mushroom meat loaf and made sure he has leftovers for sandwiches today.
I think the next item on my life upgrade is the pair of sneaks I keep in the car. Old isn't the problem; it's that the soles have separated off the shoe bottoms. So think that is on my list for this weekend. I like to have a pair there in case I have to wait somewhere. I can fill in the time with a walk. Not to mention if I have a fashion victim moment with a pair of dress shoes. Or if I have a long drive back after a cycling event.
So glad I have the work to fund some of these items. Seems like all my sports gear is wearing out at once.
Today's ride is about 30 miles followed by a trip to the Redmond farmers market. That should whip my sorry hide into shape! - Claire

Congratulations Jazzy! Hot, sweaty, and really truly good is a wonderful feeling!
Sounds like you are on the move as usual, Claire!
Another very nice summer day here; I walked for an hour & did a 45 minute toning DVD with Denise Austin. Now I'm off to hunt for a baby present....I am in the older generation now because I'm buying baby presents, not for friends, but my friend's kids are starting families!

Congrats jazzy. six hours filled with exercise is an accomplishment even before BC. A bigger milestone after!
I walked for 35 minutes this morning and then mowed the lawn 50 minutes.

Hi, I have been reading this thread for quite a while as I finished up chemo.....now almost one month PFT. I am trying to get back into exercise as I was an avid exerciser before surgery back in April, but this has sure taken a toll on my body! I sure would appreciate it if you all would post a one liner about whether or not you are on Arimidex or another estrogen blocker and if you are doing OK. I am due to begin taking it and have heard so many awful things about it.....I am scared. I hope to hsve no side effects. I hsve had enough! Thank you

Twohobbies, yoghurt festival, LOL. Congrats, Jazzygirl. I can imagine that felt wonderful.
Ginger, an e-bike has a an electric motor and rechargeable battery. You still have to pedal though unlike a moped or motorcycle. You can choose the level of power to assist you in pedalling. In eco mode it is still tough going uphill and in turbo mode it can be a breeze, depending on the incline and terrain. I still had to push the bike in places, and then it is a real upper body workout as the motor adds to the weight of the bike. Many bicycle shops in the area where we were biking have rental e-bikes,
Zumba today was hot but a nice break from pedalling.

Yesterday for first time since 7/27 EX I managed to get on treadmill at gym. Slow but steady. Hit a total of 1.75 miles per Fitbit. Today typing from treadmill and hoping to top 2 miles. Also upped the speed a bit, but not feeling great after 6 hours in car to retrieve 13yo from his summer with cousin/best friend.
Claire. . .have you tried Amazon for sneaks? I got Asics trail runners for me, DH and 19yo all for under $40 each.

Hi Scottie....Great idea for the running shoes I also need. Got a screaming deal on the sneaks at Value Village. $6.99 for a pair of slightly used Reeboks.
Sunshine...I just finished up 5 years of Arimidex in May. I was achier then, but that didn't slow me down. Exercised throughout, and in fact, I think exercise helped make my trip much easier.
Downsized my ride from 30 to 25 miles. Was tired today, so worked better. Really needed the exercise to shape up and clear my head. Now, I need to get to my tresses as everything is fading. No need to find out how grey I really am.
Just took off my cycling shoes....and guess what? I will be needing THOSE too soon. YIKES!!! Not to mention the new cassette (sprocket with 10 gears on it) and chain. I don't think I want to look at any more of my sports stuff. - Claire

mysunshine: Congratulations on finishing chemo! I was on Tamox for 2 years and then switched to Arim. for 3 years. Like Claire, I was achy but exercise helped. I also was got quite a few UTI's but I've only had 1 since being off of Arim. for 3 years. Wishing you the best.
Scottie: Glad things are going well for you and were able to get on the treadmill today.
Hi All. Just returned from my fast walk/run. I attended a wedding earlier today and I needed to work off the cake!

Jazzy, wtg on the yoga festival! Sounds restorative and therapeutic for the soul.

Mysunshine, congrats on finishing chemo.
Exercise for me today was lots of walking while running errands and picking up some much needed items during our annual tax free weekend before heading out to a birthday party for a friend.

Welcome mysunshine! I did 5 years of Arimidex. My advise (which was given to me by a friend who started anti-hormonals before) is 'just keep moving'. I did everything that I wanted to do, felt someone creaky & flashy at first, but after about 6 months (during which my body adjusted, I suppose) I felt good & did well for the rest of the time. Glad you have joined us here, being active will help you in every way as you good forward!

Welcome mysunshine I did 5 years on Femara/Letrozole and I was terrified when I put that first one in my mouth as I had read so many negative things online and my experience was just like Ruth's, about 6 months for my body to adjust but no real problems, different joints would hurt on different days but my doctor also found arthritis and I feel that exercise really helped and if I felt joint pain I would just take an Aleve.
Congratulations Jazzy such a great accomplishment you have every reason to be proud of yourself. Claire I need to upgrade to 10 but I keep putting it off, kinda feel I'm inviting trouble but it would be nice not to have to remember passwords. Odie those tax free weekends are great when you need to purchase big ticket items. Ruth I'm with you on that, last night went out to a 25 year olds birthday celebration, of course I was the oldest one there but I was the only one who knew the words to all the songs that the DJ played and I could 'whip and ne ne' on the dance floor with the best of them, thanks to my dance classes.
This morning did Grit Cardio and Body Pump express at one gym, then headed to another to Zumba then hit the mall on the way home and bought new workout shoes and another pair of workout pants, then came home and passed out in the couch my shoulders are really 'speaking' to me thanks to all those clean and presses

Very exciting Jazzy! That is a LOT of yoga. I do a 90 minute hot yoga class occasionally and it wipes me out for the rest of the day. I can't imagine 4 hours - that is quite an accomplishment!
They are opening a new bike shop near me, and I live right at the trail head for some major mountain biking trails. My kids are back in school, I am hoping to find a riding partner to learn a bit more about mountain biking too.Hopefully the shop will have some ideas. I figure it will be a good cross training activity to running. I do love to ride, and street bikes are really pointless in my area, ridiculously hilly.
According to my little training plan printout I am supposed to run 4 miles today...and its 95 degrees. I am going to wait until the sun sets a bit tonight I think! Since I am new to this, I am slowly but surely figuring things out...like headphones help tremendously. I need to figure out how to get a good playlist downloaded, or sick one of my kids on that task.

(And I take tamoxifen - postmenopausal...I am at the 5 year mark. Various studies had my onc keep me on it instead of switching to an AI. I have had joint pain off and on, not sure how much of that is just beat up joints from tennis etc. though.)

45 minutes of toning with THE FIRM today.

Mysunshine I have been on anastrazole and ovarian suppression almost 2 years. Achiness at the beginning-legs by evening and got a pain in the base of my thumb. Both have resolved 99 percent. Exercise has way improved those symptoms. Hot flashes intolerable early on and have settled down now too. I think that is more from the induction of menopause than the AI but I wouldn't know for sure. I took tamoxifen two years. Pretty much no SEs at all from that

Hi, MySunshine!! I have been on aromasin for 9 1/2 years!! My onc says 10 for sure and then we will see!! Side effects have been very tolerable!! But I had bi-lateral breast cancer with one node positive!! Good luck with your decision!!
Went to gym and took a long walk yesterday, will walk later today!!!

Any Atlanta gals here? I took a huge step forward and signed up for the 2-day walk in October this year. I can't do the 20-mile Saturday part because 19yo has an away college soccer game we are attending that day. We are doing the 10-mile Sunday walk part as a team of at least 4 (immediate family). I'm going to have to work up to even that. The most dh and I hiked this summer was 6 miles.
I will also need to pack a ton of tissues. The walk last year was held on the weekend I was diagnosed and the day we told our kids.
Back at the gym today on a slow treadmill. Gotta get it going.

Thank you for your posts about Arimidex. I have taken it 2 days now. Trying to be positive and not worrying about it......just like I don't give taking calcium snd vitamins a second thought. I plan to exercise as much as I can.

My hubby and I went for a hike today. One hour 15 minutes.

Hi Everybody! Was able to get out for walk/run this evening. I'm so really for cooler weather.

I ran for 3.1 miles this morning. Slower than my pace pre-bursitis but faster than being on the couch. 13 days till the Triathalon...
Heidi-thanks for the e-bike explanation. Sounds like it could come in handy at times.
MySunshine-I am on aromasin. Been taking it for about 2 years now. Some joint stiffness at times but much more tolerable with regular exercise. I was on letrozole first but had lots of trouble with it. The good news is there are several to try so if one is not a good fit for you, another might be better tolerated. Good luck!

8/9- after a total of 10 hours of exercise last Mon-Friday, I sort of took the weekend OFF! One of my yoga teachers at the festival on Friday gave us a challenge to do 10 min of yoga a day for 40 days to create a daily practice. I used to have one, it fell off after the health issues, but took the challenge and did 10 min yesterday and today. My body does feel recovered from the big day on Friday so back to the gym tomorrow!
Thank you everyone for your support and kind words around my big day last Friday!

Jazzy, wonderful on the yoga and Ginger, you are tacking great on tri training. HeidiHill, once again you are offering us a glimpse of your beautiful holiday scenery. I still want to tour the Dolomites from your snaps last year!
Off to the gym to practice release 69 and deliver two classes on it tomorrow. Just ordered release 70 and it will be here in a week.
Fyi, tweeted about this, a new study calculates how much weekly exercise can reduce fat levels enough to lower the chances of developing breast cancer: http://time.com/3960035/exercise-breast-cancer/?xid=tcoshare

Interesting Lilac. I wonder if they count all exercise (including toning, yoga, pilates etc.) in their total? If they do, then I'm really good. I follow a very, very old recommendation of Richard Simmons & aim for 4 hours of aerobic exercise and 4 hours of toning (including yoga, weights, abs, pilates etc. etc.) a week.
Speaking of which, I am now off to yoga. I am going to try to get in some extra exercise today & tomorrow because on Wednesday I am off to Minnesota to spend a couple days with friends from my early teaching days. We had so much fun then that we still try to get together every year. So we will be spending a couple days catching up, eating, playing games, hanging out and exaggerating the stories from our misspent youth.

Scottie, I am in North Atlanta...I am hoping to complete either the Thanksgiving Day Half or the Savannah Rock and Roll Half.
Didnt complete the 4 mile goal yesterday. I thought I had run far enough but according to MapMyRun I only did 3.88...just short.

Hi geewhiz, I'm on the westside. Savannah sounds like fun for Thanksgiving. My Dh is from Chaz and we love Savannah. I'll be hiking/boating the Okefenokee that weekend. I'm a photographer on the side and going down for photography vacay.

Hi everyone, That article about exercise was very interesting. I will soon be participating in a year long clinical trial with Johms Hopkins to look at this very topic. I hope I get the weght loss coach, tools, etc. Rather than just written documents to encourage exercise and weight loss. But it's random. We'll see.
Walked for 30 minutes again today and based on the article will try to add time tomorrow. Also want to add conditioning & strength work. I think it helps with the Arimidex related joint stuff.

Reader I'm in a study at UCSD, I got the nutritionist coach and let me tell you I hate it, it's such a pain in the behind, I have to log everything that goes into my mouth then because I'm not losing weight she keeps adjusting how many carbs, protein etc I get a day and I'm on 1350 calories, heck I can eat that many calories in one sitting, I'll be honest this past week I haven't complied because the week before I was making myself crazy and I was feeling very down on myself and angry (and that's not my personality at all) but I know I'm keeping in the calorie zone, I will say I think before I eat and boy do I read every box label now and I know I got the placebo pill that goes with the study as I have absolutely no side effects.
Tonight did Cardio Dance Party then went to Costco and do you know how hard it was to pass up the Polish Dog/drink combo for dinner but I did got myself a salad on the way home
