Outrunning- your daughter is adorable. So glad you can enjoy exercise together!
Yesterday 1 hour at the gym of resistance. Stay tuned for today's updates later on! I have a bit of yoga on the patio planned, a swim at the gym this afternoon and a bike ride this evening! I will be pleased if I do even 2 of the 3!

Outrunning, beautiful photo, both the nature and your daughter.
Lilac good luck with your next class.
I went to a post treatment BC program and she started me with1pound weights. Very light but I did have a mastectomy. Reconstruction but not implants.
Patoo one very easy way to get more vegetables is roast them in the oven. Super easy. I throw whatever I have on hand on the tray-carrots,zucchini, broccoli, cauliflower, onion, mushrooms and drizzle the olive oil on and some kind of seasoned salt. They are done in 20 to 25 minutes and I want to eat the whole plate. I try to do broccoli salads and mixed vegetable salads too, instead of concentrating on lettuce.
Yesterday mowed and weeded. That takes 80 minutes. Then I went for a bike ride for an hour. Plus some cleaning. Beautiful perfect weather this week. I wish it could stay this way forever.

two hobbies at what temp do you roast your veggies?
Lilac blue. I keep seeing pics in Facebook if friends in other parts of the world and am shocked to see them wearing jackets. It's been pretty perfect here lately. At first I was thinking it was horrible to have to have surgery at such a busy time of year. But now I reason a blessing to have it when getting outside is so easy.
Thanks all for the kind word about DS. She's been super through all this. Taking care of Mommy.

Outrunning/TwoHobbies: (alertly interested) I've been trying to get more vegetables into me, and into my husband, so interesting ways to roast them would be great.
As for exercise--yesterday 40 minutes on the elliptical and a round of the Nautilus circuit. Today, swimming. I'm starting to notice the radiation fatigue, so rather slower than this spring. But doggedly doing it.

I didn't have time yesterday, but wanted to share a sweet moment. I taught special education, so many of my students faced significant challenges. One girl, now a senior, was so shy when she came to us that she was afraid of everything; the lunchroom, going to gym, assemblies (which were just about impossible for her at first), anything that had to do with groups of people and noise. Happily, I worked with a bunch of great people, who went out of their way to not only include everyone, but to find ways to make them shine. Whatever we did must have worked, because she became quite the social butterfly, and on Friday was elected Homecoming Queen by her peers (which says a lot about the character of those kids too). Here is a picture of The Queen and I sharing a moment at the football game.

Ruthbru- I love that photo. Thank you for sharing your story of how you helped this girl, and for being you too. These are the things that matter in life.
Twenty minute yoga practice on the patio. So lovely this time of the year to do yoga outdoors. A gaggle of geese flew overhead this morning too.

Wow Ruth. Very special moment indeed. I am saying this because so reminds me of my youngest sister who unfortunately didn't make it past puberty. She had the gift of extreme happiness.
I did a 35 mile ride yesterday and need to get on my cycling duds for the group ride I am planning. Amazing how I felt elated towards the end of the ride vs dragging going in.
LilacBlue....fascinating how this whole BC experience has taken your life and career in a new direction. Thinking of Ruth's post, I think that one benefit often overlooked with exercise is the self-confidence it brings. This translates to all aspects of life.
The point Ms Candy Apples is making is an important one: that it's possible to be just as sassy and sexy post breast cancer as before. She makes a point of being introduced as "breast cancer didn't stop her". We chatted a bit during the intermission. Now she was blown away that I am 15 years older than she guessed.
Hoping the rain holds off so I can get in a group ride with friends. Need to check up on my friend Jim whose job search isn't going that well. Plus, I haven't ridden that route all summer. I wonder if today's stop will be one for pie?
Then blech, blech, blech....a few hours working in prep for a training class on Monday. I have to think about databases and downloads. Blech again!!! - Claire
p.s. Not all that bad as won't have time to hunt down fab items on eBay.

Ruth-I love the picture! It is great to hear such a great story.
Outrunning-Your daughter is so cute! It must be great to be able to get out and exercise w/ her. I definitely got stir crazy after my LX. It is nice to get back to a workout.
Patoo-The veggie class sounds interesting. I love to learn about new recipes w/ veggies.
Odie-I am right behind you w/ the hysterectomy. Mine is scheduled for next month. Hoping for laparoscopic surgery..
Walked 6 miles.

Ruth how rewarding it must be to see kids blossom over four years and know your part in it. And I also shout it out to young people. They get a bad rep sometimes but I find them so tolerant and loving.
Outrunning I roast the veggies at 450 and then watch the first time to determine how long you need to cook them. It will depend how thin you sliced them. Stir midway through.
Burlesque BC classes. for the sexy sassy and not shy! I'd like to be able to say I could do it but not sure.

I grill veggies at 450. 15 minutes on one side, stir around and 15 more minutes. For seasoning, about half a packet of taco seasoning is yummy. It works great with any and all vegetable combinations & makes me want to eat the whole cookie sheet full (which I cover with aluminum foil first because I am lazy......no clean up).

Love the idea of roasting all the veggies. That can definitely work for me! I can scan (or try to scan) the recipes from the class if anyone wants me to email to them - just send me a PM with your email addy.
Ruth, love the pic. My son has CP and so I found out many years ago that these "special" people are the best in the world - always smiling even in the most trying of circumstances. Definitely is the reason I have little love for or use for people who complain about silly things.
Beautiful, humid day today so spent 2 hours frolicking in the pool. Then discovered my cell phone appears to have died - yikes. Can't call for service as I no longer have a landline. Big pain.
Night sculpted friends.

Awwww....Ruth,such a sweet story and picture. Things like that bring tears to my eyes and hope for our future. What great kids!
I finally got my broken toe comfortably back into a sneaker and went out for a walk yesterday morning. I even jogged about a mile. (I could not help myself)It felt great to get moving again! I did an overnight with my church youth group last night (3 hours of sleep) and spent 3 hours tying helium balloons at a community event this afternoon. I will be asleep before 9 for sure!

Outrunning. . .sweet and cute daughter.
mysunshine. . .my PS said no lifting anything until 6 weeks post EX. I'm now 8 weeks post and have been doing PT for 3 weeks. PT is pushing me on ROM (ouch) and I'm doing some 5 lb weights, Started at 2 lb and no weights over the head yet. Slow and go. You don't want to over do with your stretched pects.
Ruth. . .what a sweet pix and story. Thanks for sharing. Both my kids are autistic and at one point dd was moderate to severe with very little speech. A great private school with help from the state's special needs scholarship and she 's now playing soccer in college. Still has speech problems and doesn't talk much but her teammates don't care. She learned to communicate through text and social media.
4 miles today walking. Tomorrow back to the gym.

45 minute walk/run today around the lake.

Took a little walk, did some pilates, and spent the rest of the afternoon on a yard project we've put off all summer. Tonight I went to a concert put on by the school's music booster club. It featured different community members performing all genres of music. It is remarkable how much talent there is in even a small town in the middle of the country.Wow! I feel like I've had a cultural bath!

Hello all, doubled my exercise yesterday from 2x around lake at 30 minutes to 4x around the lake at 45 minutes.
Ruth, I adore the picture and story. Thank you for sharing.
Outrunning what a sweet, precious picture of your girl.
Night all.

Really sorry to learn that Jackie Collins has succumbed to Breast Cancer. Not that I read her books, but I did enjoy her take on things and that she valued strong women. Amazingly, she gave an interview just over a week ago in the UK and never let on.
Glad that she survived long enough to receive her own OBE. - Claire

Nothing for me yesterday or today. Yesterday had to travel 4 hour to the other side of the state for a family meeting about getting my MIL into a long term care facility. 75 years old with 5 lower back and pelvic plate fractures from osteoporosis 😞. Stupid thing really. She's been on a serious steroid for several years for rheumatoid arthritis in her hands and it's just destroyed her bones. Why they didn't have her on something to help retain bone density I'll never understand.
Certainly helps me appreciate my good health.
Annie - today is 17 days since my laparoscopic hysterectomy and I feel great! Only a week and a half before I return to work though - yuck....Hope your experience is as smooth as mine has been.
G'night all 😴😴

Ahhh, laparoscopic, no wonder you go back so soon. When I had mine 20 years ago I spent a week in the hospital and then the doc said 6-8 weeks home (I took 8). Back then a total hysterectomy was about the same as a C-Section (though CS ends up with a bouncing baby at the end!)
Okay, really going to bed now. Night.

Hope you are sound a sleep by now, patoo. Love the pics, outrunning and ruthbru. Sorry for all the troubles your MIL is having, sweet. They sound very painful.
Went for an early morning walk today. Yesterday was a late afternoon walk. Will go to BodyJam tonight.

Outrunning - great picture - looks like somewhere along Rock Creek Park! Ruth- great picture and what a beautiful Homecoming Queen. Sweet - I'm so sorry about your MIL. My DH had an autoimmune issue some years ago and was on mega-doses of steriods (70mg/day) for over a year. While the steroids saved his life, they also drove him into osteoporosis - and he was only in his early 40's at the time. It's taken him years to build back up, and he still osteopenia after all this time. If the steroids could do that to a male in his 40's, I can't imagine what they'd do to an older female. My DH also was never given anything to take to try to preserve bone mass while he was on the steroids. I can't believe that all these years later doctors still are prescribing long-term steroid use without monitoring bone mass and giving preventatives. That should be routine!!

Busy weekend - had a 5.5 mile group run with the running group in that same Rock Creek Park Saturday morning. Sunday we drove over to Annapolis for a 5K to raise awareness of ovarian cancer. I have a now-retired co-worker who is going on 5 years of survivorship after being dx with Stage IV cancer. She's had some ups and downs, but right now things are stable and she's doing well. We've done the run every year since she formed her team - as a matter of fact that was the first 5K race I ever ran!
After the 5K, we headed down to DC for Nats game - and we actually won. And as a bonus, Judy Collins sung the National Anthem before the game and God Bless America in the 7th, so we got a little mini-Judy Collins concert - what a treat! Her voice is still beautiful. After the game we walked back to a more distant Metro stop to avoid the crowds for another 2 miles. All in all a busy weekend - over 17,000 steps on Saturday and 22,000+ steps yesterday. Today is definitely a rest day.
Here's a picture of where our run started on Saturday. There was a low mist on the fields as the sun was rising, so it was very quiet and peaceful.

oh Mary I could us a little of that zen from your picture right now.
And yes you are right. Rock Creek below Military. Probably my favorite spot in DC

45 minute brisk walk with my mom today

sweet. . .sorry to hear about your MIL. I have a 13yo with asthma who's been on way too many steroids in his short life. His asthma worsened again over the winter so now pulmonologist wants an esophageal biopsy to check for something she says they can treat with a daily med. This will be his 7th surgery but if it keeps his asthma under control. . .
We meet new surgeon on Friday but won't do biopsy until very early Jan. Not meeting his deductible at end of year, expecially since I'll meet mine again in Jan or Feb due to onco and family only has to meet 2 per year.
Nats. . .inspiring story!
Reader. . .way to go! I need to work up to 2x around my lake.
Gym today. . .ramping up treadmill after long day at work.

Hi, Sweet, so glad things are returning to normal for you!! And walking with your Mom!! Nothing better than that!!
I love reading all your posts!! So many wonderful ladies here!!
On vacation last week, did lots of walking!!

Sweet: Sorry about your MIL. I read one time that osteoporosis is like being a prisoner in your own body.
Nats: Beautiful picture and sounds like you had a great weekend.
Ruth: Love your picture and story.
Walked/ran this afternoon.

Scottie, Your son will probably have the biopsy during an endoscopy. I just had one last week since I have been coughing for months. I had a colonoscopy at the same time. My gastrointerologist did a biopsy at the bottom of my esophagus where the spinctor muscle is. Thank God, all was OK, but am on medicine. Just telling you this so you can assure him that it was not bad. Woke up, done. No sore throat!

Thanks mysunshine. I think you're right. I had an endoscopy once but they gave me twilight sedation. Ds has to have Gen. Anes. with intubation because of the asthma. We haven't told him yet. I'm hoping he'll ask questions Friday but if not we'll wait to tell him.
I'm now pathetically competing with 19yo dd on the Fitbit. We get weekly comparisons but it's soooo unfair. She gets to wear hers during soccer practice and totally puts me to shame. LOL
They need a water proof Fitbit that counts swimming. I'm taking that back up this winter to help with my ROM and overall recovery.
