Damn...my submit is not submissive one out of five times! So....lost another post....

    What are KY hot browns??

Pedestrian dinner of turkey legs, squash and salad compared to Chi's culinary delights!

Red, yes, some people can be more of a challenge to buy for. And cut yourself slack about getting things done. I was a walking executive function disorder while on Tamoxifen....got nothing that required thinking and planning accomplished. Maybe you need to just do gift cards this year.....:)

imageHi all. I am sorry about Debbie. People feel like Hospice should be the last option but it helps much earlier.

Red I'm not exactly ahead of the game this year either. Still working on my gifts. Sigh.

Susan the Greys look dreamy. Literally. They have a vibe of mistiness.

Lacy, my regular computer is back in for repairs again. My phone is acting up too. Oh well.

Eric, i hope you get your Hobart!

Nance KY Hot browns? Sausage? Or potatoes?

Chisandy, have a great trip. Sounds like fun already.

Can't believe my first DGD is 1.

    To all, much love

Oh Monica, so cute and so big!

A Kentucky hot brown is a layer of toasted bread (I used pieces of baguette), followed by a layer of roasted turkey, topped with sliced tomato then covered with a mornay sauce, and browned under the broiler. Lastly, two pieces of crisp bacon go on top. It's a nice and tasty way to use up leftover turkey.

Another Costco run today for holiday supplies. Hope it's not too crazy. At least it stopped raining. Two and a half inches yesterday.

    So frustrating!

    Thanks Nance!

Lacey, This is just not acceptable! Have you posted on the Tech Glitches thread?

I pulled out an old staple for dinner. Ground lamb made into samosa meat, red lentils with garlic, basmati rice, and naan bread. The kid is enjoying some of the leftovers. I do try to feed her on Monday when she doesn't get home until around 8pm.

    *susan*

  • We had pig chops for dinner, cooked in the oven with barbecue sauce on dh's chop. Yum, good pork. Sides were warmed up turnip greens and butternut mash.

Nance, that Kentucky hot brown would be good without the leftover turkey!

    Moon, your DGD is adorable.

I lost a post too.. I had made the post over about 45 minutes--working on and off (mostly off)--and after clicking on 'submit', I got the log in screen again.

Fortunately the post was pretty short.

The mixer is sitting on the kitchen table. Sharon is excited about it..."I can make cookies for school." Note she said 'school' and not 'us'. :-) This is fine..I think one cookie equals 1 pound of weight gain.

Moon, that's quite the happy look of surprise she has on her face.

I ended up feeding DD here as well. Sharon was working late at school and on my way home, DD called me and asked if I'd feed her at a restaurant she wanted to try out....a takeout Chinese food place with a few tables. I've had better, but it wasn't bad...especially for $8 for both of us.

Auntie, how was Costco's crowding? There's one I drive by on the way home from work...the parking lot was full and there was more than a 1/4 mile line of cars waiting to get into the parking lot...I will stay far away from that place. :-)

My DMIL has one like that Eric..it's up at the family farm still. Enjoy. Maybe Sharon will keep a cookie or two home if you ask nice? LOL

Susan lamb sounded good to me.

Hi Specialk. Hope you're feeling great.

I pulled out soup from my freezer. When it thawed I thought it looked weird so of course I tasted it. Duh. It was NOT butternut squash soup. It was mango smoothies LOL. I know it's warm here got up to 60 even with the rain, but a half gallon of smoothie mix is a lot for me alone.... LOL and I probably Froze it because it was starting to age. LOL. I had a bowl of chili I made on Saturday instead.

Did ever tell you age ll about my trip to Colorado and the story of the shrine. If not let me know. I'll fill you in.

    Much love to all.

And CT with contrast day for me. Redhead, good luck to both of us. I won't get results until I see the MO on Thursday afternoon. I'm never as hungry & thirsty as when I'm not allowed anything by mouth, and the test isn't until 11am. Eek.

Red, hope you and Minus both ace your tests.

Eric, nice! You will love it.

Costco wasn't too bad. The biggest annoyance was the people parking their carts in the middle of the already crowded aisles while trying to snarf up all the food samples. (TAKE YOUR TIDBIT AND WALK AWAY PEOPLE.) The good thing was all the checkout lanes were open so no waiting there. I won't be going back either until after the holidays.

Lots to do today. I need to make ricotta and grind some chuck for the lasagna and numerous other odds and ends before my guests arrive tomorrow. Off to salt the beef roast that will be tomorrow night's dinner. No clue about tonight's.

Hello all - doing well, had post-op yesterday but left with my two drains intact.  The new kitten activity caused a spike in drain output, so I have them still.  After the appt. we went to a new-ish place for BBQ.  Very yum, but I could only eat half of it, so the rest was dinner too.  Tonight is Napa cabbage/romaine, with scallions, chicken, slivered almonds and black sesame seeds, and an Asian dressing.

moon - I am hanging in, everything looks good!  Your DGD is a doll!  The smoothie/soup story made me laugh!

eric - my mixer looks similar but doesn't have the lever, it has the slide lock.  Mine is 1990.

red and minus - as auntie said - hope you ace your tests!

auntie - your comment on folks getting their sample and getting out of the way cracked me up! I am one of those weirdos who samples nothing - I always feel like I am hurting the feelings of the person passing them out - and I am usually in the store when it is quiet so it ends up being a one on one conversation!

My friend kayb has a post with this survey - she is encouraging BCO members to take it - here is the link.

Also hope you "ace" your tests" Red and Minus. And that your drains are out soon, Special. I did not get the "kitten" reference. :/

Off to get my prevnor pneumonia shot this afternoon.

Last night dinner out in Hvd Sq. on the way to yet another Moth slam was wild mushrooms over polenta (waaay to salty to appreciate it), and a beet salad that was more beautiful than flavorful. I must talk to that chef! Slam was great...I think we are becoming regulars. ;)

Keeping posts short to avoid rage of losing them...;)

Oh my saints and stars what a day I have had..... I went to get m y mammo and bone density. Did 2 views of each breast and said they were fine and I didn't need any more images and even though I had complained of breast pain, radioloigsit said no need for ultrasound. Wont get bone density till I see my PCP in Jan. unless they call me.

Went to the mall. I have this new Eddie Bauer down filled coat and the pockets zipp shut, so I have been just putting my cellphone, my wallet and my keys in the pocket, zipping it shut and not carrying a purse. So I shopped at Berngers, then stopped at Fannie Mae for 3 pieces of treats (candy) and walked down to the place where the Chinese people do fab ulous massages. I had a 30 minute massage on my feet/reflexology and when I reached into my pocket, the wallet was gone.....

I gave them my phone number, told them I would run home and get some money and come back. I went to Mall security, where the door is locked and a sign says call this number----so I called and got some guy who radioed his other officers and told me no one had turned in a wallet. I zipped home, called Visa and MC and cancelled the accounts and new cards with new numbers coming. Put a Fraud Alert/Security Freeze on my Credit reports. Couldn't remember what other cards were in the wallet, spent over 30 minutes trying to contact Macy's and couldn't . Hot as all gt out so I went to the mall without my coat on as I was burning up.Go in to pay for the massage (They have searched the chair cushoins, etc) and try to deal with Macy's face to face. They wouldn't let me do anything because I wasn't calling from my home phone..... Went to bank to replace ATM card (it was ATM ONLY/not Debit) They will not issue just ATM anymore---so I told bank to forget it....Went to Police Station, they asked a ton of questions, gave me a letter to go replace my drivers license which took another hour. Then I went m y Insurance Agent to get my wallet card showing insurance replaced. Come home, still upset and know full well I zipped that wallet in the coat pocket, but it was opened up at the massage shop. Police officer thought maybe my pocket had been picked since I still had the cell phone and the keys. I couldn't remember anyone being close enough to do that, although I had stood in the mall and chatted with a woman I used to work with.

So, I got to hang up my coat, and one sleeve feels tight . There is a damn zippered pocket in the sleeve and zipped into the pocket is my wallet........ An entire day shot to hell and it was in a pocket I 'didn't even realize this damn coat had....

FA LA LA LA LA Deck me, somebody, please.....

Oh Red, you poor thing, what a day you've had! At least your mamm came out well. May your drivers license photo be better than your previous one!

Oy, Red!! I'm exhausted just reading your nightmare of a day! Glad you recovered the wallet, but now can you cancel the other "cancels"? And I appreciate the ordeal with Macy's. They are very difficult to deal with in such customer service situations. I'm glad that the mammo result was at least a bright part of your day.

It is past 3AM and I am just getting to bed after organizing and wrapping all the gifts we will be bringing down the east coast later this week. At least those gifts are done!

Hoping I have some energy to start some pizzelles tomorrow. I'd like to bring them as a food treat for my stepmother and for DS1's kids. Of course, the doc vegans probably will abstain since I think they don't eat any eggs. Their loss....:(

Special, what fun! Was the kitten a gift for you? I'm allergic to cats, but certainly get a kick out of kitten antics. :)

Yesterday, I moved my care from Beth Israel to Dana Farber. These two places could not be more different. Beth Israel is all about personal relationships and Dana Farber is S.E.R.I.O.U.S. Once you arrive on the 9th floor at Dana Farber there is one person checking patients in while at the BI there are four or five. Of those four or five, at least one would be wearing some antler head gear, or maybe one who have a Rudolph nose. No such frivolity at the Dana Farber, let me assure you. After checking in, and receiving your RFID badge [so they can track wait times] you head back into this large room with massive windows overlooking the air conditioning units of the Joselyn Center. In the distance, you can see a bit of the view they had imagined when designing this building.... the river and Cambridge beyond. While sitting in this very expansive waiting room, you can not see even one Dana Farber employee. No chit chat, no noticing that you have been waiting for over an hour, no contact at all.

There is a small passageway/room with a picture of a fork/knife, a coffee cup and maybe it said cafe, so I decided to take a look. No refrigerator for drinks just a Nestle machine for instant coffee, plastic cups to get water from the bubbler, and for snacks? seven packages of saltine crackers. [I laughed when I told Dr. Christina that there is NO ONE I know who eats saltines with a fork and a knife. Of course, there were no forks or knives to be seen. This is a bring your own snack/drink kind of place.]

Dr. Christina was over an hour late. Her previous patient was a new-to-cancer patient and she just needed more time. No problem really, but no one came out to tell me this. It just isn't the Dana Farber way.

The two of us had a great meeting which also stretched to over an hour. I have reached the end of the endochondral agents. From here on out, we are talking chemo for life. There are two options on the table: Xeloda which is taken by mouth and Taxol a weekly infusion. They have real pro/cons, and I am not sure which direction to go. The third possibility is a trial. Dr. Christina, it turns out, needed my permission to submit my records to the "research group" who will gather any trials that would be appropriate. Dr. Christina would then decide if any of the available trials that I qualify for would be beneficial to me. I am meeting with her again on Tuesday and we will make our final choice.

It has been almost a month since I have had any anti-cancer drugs in my system which makes me anxious, but, I am, at the same time, relieved that I will start a new therapy before Christmas. Whatever the new therapy is, we will have started before the new year.

Oh, and no co-pay taken at Dana Farber! Guess I will get a bill later? And the "No Caller ID".... the reason for this is, there are evidently quite a large number of patients that do not tell their families that they have cancer. Since Dana Farber == Cancer, to accommodate those patients, they have stripped the caller id clean. Ridiculous..... have it read Laboratory Services or some other moniker that patients would know is Dana Farber.

    Ho, Ho, Ho!

Red, ohmygoodness..... what a day! Somedays it would be prudent to just stay in bed. Glad your mammo is done and clean!

    Special, a kitten? Seriously?

Lacey, good luck with the pizzelles. A true labor of love if you ask me. The doc vegans can just leave their pizzelles for others. No one will complain at all.

Canceling your trip to NOLA feels big. Is it?

Lacey, I will take the doc vegans share of pizzelles.

Susan, DF's seriousness had better pay off is all I can say. I'm glad you like Dr. Christina. That is helpful. My very best wishes for you in making the very tough treatment decision.

Canceling our trip, while disappointing, would be bigger if we rarely went to NOLA, but we're in the area once or twice a year and we will go next year. I've decided that it's cheaper (and much less exhausting) to go there and eat out three times a day than it is to celebrate the holidays here with the huge grocery bills I've been racking up

Somethings coming in my window -- wait -- it's the sun! Where ya' been for the past four days?!!

Off to make gingerbread to make the house smell wonderful this morning.

lacey & susan - yes, Santa brought the kitten early.  I was just chillin' on my bed resting after the surgery and in they come with a little carrier with a big red bow.  It was exciting at first because I have wanted a new cat for a while - had a Siamese for 17 years.  However, the reality of a new very active baby as I am trying to recover at home alone is setting in.  This morning he climbed the bedroom curtains which then fell down - eeesh!  Very sweet on the part of DH and DD but the timing was not carefully considered.  I am also left to referee between the kitten and dog - I am exhausted.  I will have a respite this weekend - going to see my in-laws in S. Carolina.  I am hopefully losing one drain tomorrow, having my regular MO appt., then DH and I are driving up and leaving DD in charge of the kitten for a couple of days.

susan - I understand your feelings about DF - it is one of the reasons I did not seek treatment at Moffitt.  I was treated there in the sarcoma department a couple of years prior to breast cancer diagnosis for a tumor in my calf.  It was intimidating, but I was glad to have the specialized help because the situation was somewhat unusual and scary.  Big cancer factories are often a lot more impersonal with a lot less warm and fuzzy going on.  I think you just have to hold on to them being able to provide something new and helpful and set all of the other to the side - not always easy.  I was very fortunate that because I am treated privately right across the street from Moffitt, all of my docs spent time there at one point or another, my BS was the department head for years - I get the personal feeling combind with the institutional experience.

  • Red, what a horror story! And you tell it so well that reading the post was entertaining in an awful kind of way. I had an inkling that the wallet would be found. Great news that the mammo was good.

Susan, I was right there with you at Dana Farber. You have a gift for description and narrative that your mother would approve. A big plus that you like your dr. even though the medical environment is lacking warmth and friendliness. I so hope the treatment prolongs life with quality.

Nance, I loved your comments about the grazing customers at Costco's. Like SpecialK, I seldom partake of the offered food samples. They're almost never a product I would consider buying and I assume the reason for the samples is to market the product. DH has been known to roam the store and have an equivalent of lunch.

SpecialK, I'm glad you're recovering from this umpteenth surgery.

When I listed dinner possibilities yesterday morning, they were met with silence from dh until I mentioned lamb chops. That was his preference and what a good preference it was. When I looked at the package of four beautiful loin chops, I winced as I saw the price I'd paid, $16, but the one I ate was so, so good. Cooked perfectly on the grill by dh. We had a salad inspired by Lacey. Mixed organic salad greens with baby kale, spinach, and chard, sliced red pear, chunks of blue cheese and walnut pieces. It was different from our usual and very tasty. I dressed mine with a spinkle of white balsamic and a small amount of olive oil. We also had boiled tiny white potatoes .

I'm trying once again to lose some blubber from my body so I ate one chop, three teensy potatoes and the salad. It was an outstanding meal. Truthfully, the dinners we have at home are almost always better than the dinners eaten out which cost a lot of $$.

The rest of the week will be a challenge, calorie wise. Today is the women's golf luncheon at the club. No idea what the meal will be. Just was told that the chef is doing something "special." Then Friday night we're eating out with former neighbors. Saturday night is a casual dinner party to which the Friday golf group and spouses are invited.

Tonight's dinner will be a stir fry with chicken breast slices, orange bell pepper, and mushrooms and soba noodles. I need to look up a recipe for an Asian type sauce which dh will like. If lunch is ample, I won't be eating a full dinner. Suggestions welcome.

red - DD thought she lost her debit card last week, so we went through the cancellation process also.  She found it behind the door in her room!  Much smaller scale than your saga, but I sympathize.  The good news is that you know nothing was compromised, but what a pain!

Dinner last night was a combo romaine and Napa cabbage salad with chicken, goat cheese, walnuts and pears - dressed with a vinaigrette.  I think tonight will be small steaks with some Trader Joe's asparagus risotto and a green salad.

chisandy - We went to Rome in '09 and spent our last night at the Hilton at the airport - so convenient!  Did the same thing in Munich a couple of years ago for morning flights out - stayed at the Kempinski.  Excellent hotel and can't beat the proximity.  This is my new modus operandi for international travel - it reduces the stress on the day of departure for me.
