  • Thanks Lover,

Woke up at 3:30 this morning and couldn't really fall back asleep. Got up early for work. Think my nerves are working overtime. My acid reflux was so bad I ended up getting sick. Made it thru the day. Now trying to relax. I'll post once I know more tomorrow. Any last words of wisdom? My sister will be going with me. Mom thinks she'll be too emotional. Got a list of questions and a navigator that I got off-line.

in your pocket tomorrow Sensi. Always take someone with you from now on. 4 ears are better than one!

Lover, hope you're feeling better. Need to do lunch when you're up to it.

Sensi, do you have only one ear? He...he... Poking fun at Smaarty

Packing tonight, 2 hour drive to the big city for the airport, 2 hour flight to LAX & then cab ride to the beach. All 4 of us are excited. This last month has been so very difficult, adjusting to my new fate, watching my DH & kids try to prepare for what's ahead. Train wreck......& then all the well meaning friends that want to help, but can't.

Susan, Miralax, MO wants me to take it everyday after chemo, or taking pain pills. It is a lifesaver, I don't take it if things are normal. My biggest hurdle is the dry heaves. My monster liver is pushing on stomach & bladder. Can't tell if I'm hungry, hurting or what. Any suggestions ?

HI1, sorry for such chit. Ginger, used it when it wasn't d'noveau. Back in 1987, dad was in dry heaves. Hospital sent him home that way. He needed dialysis, but a heart patient needed dialysis before surgery. Poor Dad was still in heaves the next morning. Turned right to go to the health food store rather than left for work. They suggested ginger right from the spice bottle. Went home and gave him some. Right before my eyes he stopped heaving in the time it took to swallow it. At that point he may have been heaving for 24 hours.

I used it a few weeks latter when I was heaving like Loverly just described. Both ends going at once. Stopped the vomiting within the time it took to swallow it.

Studied it. Used for centuries. Likely longer, but forget now

I told twin about it when she had chemo in 1996. She never went anywhere without her bottle of ginger.

Ah HiHo, you beat me to the teasing.

Sensi, it's good that you have a list of questions written down and your sister is coming with you to the appointment. Yes, four ears are definitely better than oneWinking. Good start. Hang in there and remember to take deep breaths. Don't be like me and forget to breathe normally when you are nervous or stress.

Ms. Sas, no code messages. Queenie was called for jury duty last week or the week before and she was dismissed by the prosecuting attorney for having spiky hair.

Sensi, I keep a little notebook in my purse to write down things to ask the Dr. and to make notes for myself. I always have someone with me - extra ear/s are always good plus the person with you may have a question or idea you haven't thought of. The "night before" jitters are awful. I try to make myself go to bed earlyish and listen to music to keep my mind busy while I fall asleep. Hope all goes well for you :)

Susan, Benefiber and an evening snack of prunes or dried apricots keep my guts cooperative. I mix the Benefiber in hot tea, cranberry or orange juice. Occasionally I need the Miralax too.

Queenmomcat , The Refuge is a lovely place to be :) I was once de-selected for jury duty years ago when I was in college. It was a trial involving a drunk driver. I don't know which side didn't want me but I've always been upset to think that maybe I looked like someone who was all for driving drunk? (I'm not!) I was wearing my nice "business suit" which was a matching grey pinstriped skirt and jacket........ maybe the judicial system has issues with us educated folks? My hair was such a pretty shade of purple back then too.............

Sending my special doctor to tend to all who need a little extra care and comfort..........

I just remember...,yes, Ms. Smarty, we need to do lunch when my naughty stomach decides to behave itself.

Susan, wish I could send you the excess energy of my stomach to you so you can get some relief. The bloating/pressure is worse than a sore you know what. Miralax is good. Ms. Chevy would recommend aloe vera juice.

Sensi, hope you get some shut eyes tonight.

sas, come on now. You being mean yo me?? Lol. Chemo for life remember.. All our bodies fight and handle that differently. I know everything that's out there. Don't always have time to stay at home and figure out what amount works. I flip from one to the other in a snap of the finger. Not a easy fix. Wasn't complaining, just making a funny for lover. I have been extremely busy getting things for the baby shower, helping my mom, that I can't take to much of anything to completely empty cause it's hard to purge and run errands . Gotta pick your battles sometimes. I have Friday free to see if I can get things under control.

Hi evetyone, hope you all will have a great day. Raining here..but I love the smell of soaring rain. So fresh:)

how are you feeling today lover?

    Patty, how are you?

Going to help my mom today get phones. Gotta out them everywhere. Dye keeps answering her land line in the kitchen and it doesn't work. Portable in bedroom. I don't think she remmbers it's portable :(.

Going to get a lot of them and put them everywhere. Hopefully that will solve the problem for a little while at least.

Boy is spell check behaving badly today SickTired

Good morning friends- I am continuing to work out the residual cold. Day 10 now and feeling a lot better. Being able to sleep better the past few nights has helped a lot. Of course, you all know the congestion and night time cough (even with meds) can wake you up and keep you up. But I was able to get some good rest the past couple nights and feel better in the mornings. Hoping with having some time to slow down this weekend will help.

Loverly- sorry to hear about your GI tract acting up. Mine has been too, think it is from those cough drops I am using, it has happened before. I hope everything stablizes for you.

Hol- I cannot remember if I have shared my hugs to you for you on your Stage IV dx earlier this month. Just stinks, and know you are worried about the drugs and all that will follow with that. It sounds like you have some beach time coming up. It will be good for you and your family. I am sure everyone is scared, and time together will help. Wishing you the warmth of the sun on your face and the lovely squishy feeling of sand between your toes.

Smarty- that baby Evie is such a cutie pie. Thanks for sharing the pictures of her with us. Babies make us happy!

Must get to the client site for one more day there this week. Wishing everyone well as this month of March wraps up!

Susan re your autocorrect I loved "soaring rain" - it sounds so much nicer than "pouring rain", much more of a possibility of rainbows about it.

Hey Jazzy, 10 days of the cold is a long time. Sorry, I should have shared this cold remedy sooner with you: place half of a yellow onion in a bowl of water and put it next to your night stand before resting. The inhaled enzymes released by the onion does something to the respiratory tract. Tried this two weeks ago with the bad head cold and recovered in two days without any mess (autocorrect changed from meds).

Susan, my respect for you increases each time I read about your choosing to put on your big girl panty ( officially grandma panty now haha). I have more energy today. Thank you. Just hope the food stays in my unsteadiness long enough for nutrients absorption. Yesterday, as soon as I finished chewing a few bites I pfitt (love the new vocabulary, Ms. Sas) I am learning to wear my big girl panty. Thanks again.

Loverly - old timey remedies are sometimes the best! Never heard of the onion remedy ~ gotta try that one next time one of us has a cold.

Jazzy - I'm not a nurse, but I've seen one on TV (and everywhere else!) Here's some purrfesional advice for you and Loverly:

Oh boy, I didn't think sending you the excess energy of my busy stomach would work that fast! You have the D now and mine stopped. You feel better unplugged? Everything slows down to indigestion now. Crazy tummy.

ShepKit, love all your furry doctors. Cute!

    JunieB, you ok?

    Pattycake?

Oh Jazzy, I forgot to tell you that the only drawback about the onion remedy is that your room will smell like underarm odor, but it doesn't matter if you're congested anyway. I guess that is when you know you are better.

I'm so glad I have today off. Goal is to reorganize my pantry now that my energy is coming back. Therapy for an OCD person. Can't sit still too long. Ms. Sas, you can relate, right? Don't worry ShepKit. I will take it easy ;-

    Wait, they are furry nurses.

  • Hello ladies,

So meeting with BS went good. No definite decisions yet. She is sending me for a consult with the radiologist first and then wants me to meet with geneticist as well. Radiation could cause complications with my Neurofibromatosis. Radiation can cause the benign tumors I have, to turn cancerous (this is what I'm trying to get away from.....right?). So as of now it's

    1. Lumpectomy with radiation

    2. Mastectomy of the left breast with sentinel node removal

Probably no medications needed as even though I'm ER+, I was only at 8%. Was told normally given after 9%. Referral for consult already went thru....and will have that appointment on April 5.

I'm leaning towards the single mastectomy as that is what my gut has been telling me. Any thoughts on reconstruction? I don't have very big boobs to begin with, and because of my already short hair, often get called "sir". I don't plan on changing my hair style anytime soon, and I don't think getting called sir or mam will change with 1 boob or 2. Anyone have reconstruction and regret it.....or vise versa, anyone not get it and wish they had now?

Thank you for any input. Off to do more running around. Have a great evening all.

Oh, and chemo would depend on the sentinel node removal. Though from what they can see now, no node involvement, though I know this can change.

    Hello All,

Loverly, sorry you haven't been feeling well. That is never fun. Have you had to be off work? I have been having a rough time too. Hence, I haven't been posting. Vertigo is in full swing again and it SUCKS!. Doctor had me try Meclazine for the vertigo, but after a 1/2 pill I was nauseated and agitated, so that was a waste of money. I've also developed muscle spasms in my legs and torso. I've been in so much pain because my muscles hurt so much from the spasms, especially around my rib cage. Did two bottles of Gatorade for the cramps, but no relief, so dehydration isn't the cause. Also today was my day for treatment at the MO's office, I let out an involuntary yelp when the nurses stuck me with the needles in my caboose and scared one of them. I also saw palliative care, and they are referring me to their vestibular clinic to see if that will help with the dizziness.

I also spoke with the breeder in Idaho and she will be mating 2 of her dogs in May, so pups will hopefully be coming. I was extremely disappointed when I read the email from the first breeder that her dog had only had 2 female pups. The new breeder is a friend of the first and the 2 dogs she'll be breeding are Black (female) & Creamy Silver (male). Should make for some cute little ones. We'll see.

My friend in California has 2 dogs and the time I spent with her family & dogs was very enjoyable. Best Good Friday & Easter I can remember having in a long time.

Sensitiveheart - I had a right modified radical mastectomy at 31, with an immediate reconstruction with a tissue expander. After 2 years my body rejected the expander and I had a TRAM Flap reconstruction done, which went very well since I already had a good pocket created by the expander and didn't need a skin graft. Now 20 some years later it's still doing well.

Hello Shepkitty, Glad you have joined us. Sorry it couldn't be under different circumstances. I hope your surgery goes well and no node involvement. I love the pics of the furry nurses. See if you're gone from here for even a few days, new people pop up and you find yourself completely out of the loop.

Jazzy - Glad you're feeling better.

Sas - How have you been?

    Until next time!

Sensi, You can always reconstruct later. I didn't and am happy with my decision. It might have been different if I was younger. There are threads discussing options. Can't remember the name of any, but I remember 3-4.

    Hello Owlettes,

I'm just dropping by to see if anyone's heard from PattyPeppermint? Last I knew she was enjoying her boys' break from school and was a bit tired. I was worried because I haven't seen her since she last posted here on March 26, and it's been 5 days now.

I PM'ed her here on BCO and posted to her Patty thread, and messaged her on Facebook.

Has anyone heard anything about Patty?

Hi Madelyn! Ms. Sas has her contact info ( I believe) I have been checking to see if she has signed in nearly daily. We start to get worry after a few days too. I was hoping home health would improve her QOL.

Loverly- that is an interesting remedy and worth trying. I live alone so the funky odor would be mine to deal with alone! Going to try it! My colds usually last a couple weeks. I get colds worse due to compounding with allergies and asthma. This one has been a doosey, but coming through it now.

Thank you for caring everyone! Love you ladies Heart

JunieB, there you are. I'm much better today, except I feel a bit bloated where I guess my liver is and where my gall bladder used to be. I'm grateful though for the returned energy and no unnecessary expulsions. I'm sorry to hear that the dizziness has not resolved. Dizziness is another yuck. Good that they are doing something about it. Have you considered acupressure? And you have to deal with a new onset of spasm? Aye. Make sure your vitamins Bs, calcium, and Magnesium level are good. Some drugs can cause depletion of these vitamins and minerals.

Sensi, I had a mastectomy (to avoid radiation) and delayed reconstruction. I think if I were much older and not married I would not not bother with recon. I do have spasm on my deltoid muscle and shoulder on my reconstructive side. I didn't have this problem before reconstruction post mastectomy. Best wishes on whichever path you choose.
