Patty - hope you are getting some decent rest while DH is around to take the boys. You were asking about movies a couple of days ago - on Wed my family went to Zootropolis (Zootopia in the US I believe) (DH, me, 19 yo and 10 yo) We all enjoyed it heaps, it was funny, clever and wonderful visually

  • I actually used glass beads...they are flat on the bottom and rounded at the top.

Hoping everyone has a blessed weekend and Happy Easter!!

Oh my teeth. Lower gums are healing but I still need soft food. Next Saturday I will have the root tips extracted from two upper crowns that broke off. Wouldn't ya know they have nerves!! I am off the codiene. Then the remaining 5 teeth and bridges will be extracted and decisions will be made as to how to go forward. I look so horrid and it is our 38th wedding anniversary. If I wont have dental pain anymore I will appreciate that and be very grateful.

Thank God for the flouride the next generation after mine had in their water. Much better dental health.

    Thanks for thinking of me.

OH Ginger, how awful. You are so right about the fluoride and sealants. DS Steve is 31 and never had a cavity. One time I had tooth nerve pain that caused such a problem that my eardrum ruptured and I didn't even notice b/c the nerve pain was so bad. All the years and money you put into taking care of them and BC wipes them all out. Sorry, so wish they're was something magic to take your pain away.

Ask about Lidocaine viscus? It's a swish and spit thing. Can you take an NSAID? An NSAID plus the codeine may give you some better relief. Also, ask for Valium 5-10 mg able to increase by 5 mg until relief. It's the BESTEST for TMJ spasm. B/C they're is so much pain the TMJ is likely in spasm too. The spasm by itself can cause lot's and lot's of pain. (been there). It can get as tight as a wound propeller. Hugs sweetie.

OOps reread your post. your "off the codeine". So, above stuff isn't needed right now. Leaving it here as a FYI.

Happy early birthday!! Have fun for me too!!

    Tang, great idea! Very nice!

    Ms. Ginger- hugs.

Ms. Sas, love the wine glasses. So elegant!

JunieB, when is your trip to California again? Hope your dizziness is gone.

Susan, hope chemo is kind to you this round.

Patty, hope you still have some juice left to last you for the spring break.

Well, we took a last minute trip down to Southern California to visit 3 universities a few days ago. DD just found out a few days prior. Road trip of 7 hrs of driving with Mitzy. Surprisingly, she did very well on the long trip. She did get anxious whenever we stopp for rest room break, but other than that she was good. All the campuses are nice. Pepperdine is by the coast and Biola and UC Irvine are near LA, so traffic is horrible if you have to commute. Every hour is rush hour in LA. It's like a parking lot! Such a waste of gasoline sitting in traffic. I think it's a conspiracy of the big oil companies because if you look at the GPS screen, there tons of gas stations symbols along the freeway. Ok that is my crazy theory for the day.

Blessings been meaning to ask you about your head injury recovery. I've had so many if you remember, my right ankle is trying to kill me. But I remember so well after your head injury, how you had so much trouble processing. It was stark. You are now back to the Blessings we knew :) I'm going to ask you to write a history of your occurrence. That's bold. But I have another thread " Pain and Other Things". I wanted to consolidate old posts and other things that may be helpful to others here on BCO. Your concussion story and your recovery are important. Particularly, coping mechanisms that you used. It could be done in several post i.e the occurrence and immediate aftermath, the midterm recovery, and then the long term recovery. Whatever you want to make it. If it's something you see as not wanting to put here, then if you would put it there. I'll bring back the link. If you could put at the header of the post something like "After a head injury, Post Concussion Recovery". You are great with words and a great teacher, so, I know whatever you come up with will be of value.

Well too, another subject, you have b/c of DH's illness probably the greatest sense of creating the clean environment. Maybe not the best way to say it, but you have described the things you do b/c of his chronic reduced immune state. This is also important. I have had too many patients and heard stories here where folks don't have a clue or enough of a clue to keep themselves safe. When you've told the stories of what you do, it's impressive. I thought I had it down, I learned stuff from you for sure.

Okay have I missed anything? LOL.............. So glad you are back to or closer to your normal. Many hugs.

Hello Loverly, I can't wait to get Shats Prozac. Vet suggested it two years ago. I obviously was hesitant. After hearing how well Mitsy did on it. I may have to move up Shat's yearly appointment. We had another storm last night and this afternoon. She was a mess. Glued to me every step. Thunder shirt minimal help. Not like it was. It was great the first few years. But she is 9 now, I don't see this abating, just getting stronger. I'm resolved that the Prozac is the way to go. BTW the vet sent a message that for dogs without problems, where the owner (me) doesn't want to do special foods, she recommends Purina 1, senior(my dogs are seniors). Did you contact the local vet school?

FeelingFeline, what's the story behind your screen name? I know you are a cat lover, but the words mean more? I love stories behind screen names. I was on "OMG They Found A Cure For Stupid" The first 110 pages will make you pee yourself. At one point someone said our material was appearing on fb. They're was a huge shuffle and flurry of name changes and avatars. I looked around and saw Schatzi. I became my initials and my dog. Around page 42 their was a very nasty post that only a few of us saw. The poster said "We would all go to hell for making fun of breast cancer and that we were nothing but a bunch of clacking hens". It was deleted by the Mods. Well, after that the clucking started. We were so weird. It was GREAT!. Strongly recommend reading that thread from first page to about 110. It still continues, but many, many of the originals are gone. Some passed, some faded away, It just wasn't the same after that. But strongly recommend reading the first 110.

No, I haven't called the vet school yet. Poor Schatz. Worth a try of Prozac.

FF, I would love to hear the story behind your screen name.

Before we left for Good Friday service this evening, we had Mitzy in the crate. Came home and guess who was waiting for us at the door. We have a Houdini for a dog!! Take a close look at the crate. Besides the knocked over bucket and baby wipes container, everything looked intact right?

Can't believe we have an escape artist! Ha! Reviewed our camera and saw that she got out through the top slit. At one point her head was stuck for a few seconds. Good thing she is thin and agile. She did manage to scrape her face though:( Something must have spooked her because she kept on looking toward the sliding door before the attempted escape.

If you can find a stronger crate it should be safer. I have had dogs and cats in my life and have had a few close calls with the panicked pets entrapped in collars and various. I a cat who got all wound up in the loose threads on the side of a door mat. He flipped himself over and over and when I came in he appeared lifeless with the threads having formed a cord. I quick cut the cord off and ran to the vets with him. The vet gave him steroids saying this sort of trauma can be really serious. I never bought carpet remnants again, if it isn't a bound edge I leave it alone.

You might want to google "safe crates" I know I bought from a crate company in Northern Indiana. We had two different Goldens that had issues with storms, one would lock herself inside the bathroom and then try to dig her way out, the other would do the same but also try to dig through the wall. This was before thunder shirts. I did figure out to wrap the dog in a towel and just hold them.

The cat in question is still with us, he is 18 years old now, a Maine Coon but not so big looking any longer. He is mad at me just now because we moved last week, he hasn't come to sit in my lap since we moved. I am trying to lure him, he like macaroni and cheese. I will win him over soon.

Loverly would another dog as a companion , reduce her anxiety? I know having two dogs is more work.

Sensi wish I was there taking in that view.

    Miss Sassypants -

Thank you for those sweet words. I thought BC would change my life, but the Traumatic Brain Injury was a total game changer. I think back to how bad off I was those first few months (wheelchair, then walker, then cane; unable to carry on a conversation; not recognizing everyday objects) and realize how blessed I really am. I'd be happy to help out however you need me to. I have some real processing deficits, but I seem to be adapting fairly well as long as I give myself permission to be different. Just don't talk too fast to me!

Also, the "Universal Precautions" are just a way of life for us. I guess you could also call us "Germaphobes".... but neither DH or I have gotten sick like we used to in the past. (Which is good; his immune cells won't be fully regenerated until August.)

Why don't you PM me and explain further?

    xoxo

Blessings, hope DH continues to do well. Wow, four months is a long time to be in a bubble.

Forward and Ms. Ginger, Mitzy can sleep through the thunderstorm, but is afraid of strollers, little children, and loud people. We got her about 6 months ago from the SPCA. It took her nearly half an hour before she would come to us. At the shelter, she would sit in the corner either on the cot or wedged between the wall and the metal water container starring at passerby. She would not come to anybody because she was so frighten. Apparently, she was not socialized by her previous owner(s) who surrendered her. We could tell that she missed them. Wouldn't eat for nearly three days and was really depressed. I tried to hand feed her by the third day. She did take the food from my hand , but wouldn't eat the food if it was in the bowl. Really weird. Had to train her to eat from the bowl as she kept on taking a mouthful of food and drop it on the floor first before eating it.

She is a pretty smart girl. Too smart for her own good sometimes. She has really bad separation anxiety. I had to put her on Prozac. I didn't want her to be on it too long so I took her off of it after one month. Unfortunately, the anxiety is back. Need to start her back on it before DH leaves for Nepal in two weeksBawling Sobthat is the story of my neurotic dog.

Forward, Ms. Sas mentioned getting another dog a few months back. Not sure where to fin one that will help Mitzy.

Hi Lover - Happy Easter to you and your family. I am a cat lover and admire the grace, poise and serenity of cats. They are good role models, conserve energy until it is needed, marvellous mothers, who also know exactly when to let go, and they will not stay in a bad situation etc. There is a lot about cats that is also good for women. Skip the eating mice bit. A friend once commented on how when I talked about cats I took on the grace of the feline. Unfortunately I do not spend enough time doing this.
