Shepkitty, thanks for the encouraging words on junking. Junkers understand the passion of looking for treasures. Also, the art of bartering on price. Had a lady the other day say 'Oh we never reduce our prices" when I asked if they're was any movement in the price. She closed the door, but not before I went through it. Previous visit, the boss wheeled and dealed and I went out with multiple items and spent about 15-20 dollars. Us junker's want the thrill of the deal. Take 25 cents off and we are thrilled.

I get a kick out of finding the patterns and manufacturer. Then studying the history. It's like watching America grow over 200 years. They're was such skill, that is now gone forever. The thrifts that price right and barter move their merchandise fast. When I compliment them on either, the usual response is the point of the thrift, which is usually charitable, is to have money for their work. Food banks, supporting humans and animals in many ways. It's win win situation. Some thrifts don't realize that they are pricing like Walmart or Target. Their merchandise gathers dust.

Hi, a no sleep night last night so slept most of the day. UGH, hate that

Bon has started a new thread. It's a compilation of a lot of info she has put together over the years. It is a wealth of info. It's all related to being prepared and knowing how to access things to get prepared for death. It's not morbid, just practical.

    Good Morning/Afternoon/??? To All :-)

Sas-schatzi, I've never heard of Aldi's. Organic is always good though. There are different grades/types of corn used as filler. Some brands will use a "human" grade of corn, some use the type used for cattle feed or the leavings from processing for other products. And then there's the worry of where the meat protein was sourced from……ack!

There are certain dog/cat food manufactures I completely avoid due to their product recall frequency and inhumane use of animal testing. I've seen where you posted previously about dogfoodadvisor.com ~ such an excellent research tool!

Most important thing is how the food treats your dogs. Your pups seem to be doing awesome on the Aldi's. "If it ain't broke, don't fix it"! Our neighbor has a beautiful Pitt that becomes violently ill on any food other than one of the "bargain basement" brands. The dog is in his teens now and still doing just fine………go figure?

Loveroflife, Forgot to mention………BHA and BHT are horrible additives found in almost all dog treats and most foods. Some dogs can tolerate them, most end up with skin issues and/or diarrhea. Big doggies and some small breeds too can take many of our "people" supplements and medicines. Benadryl is good for allergies and skin irritation plus has the nice sedating benefit. Dosage goes by weight. One 25mg tablet every 6-8 hours as needed would probably be a full dose for Mitzy. 10mg of Claritin once a day is good if you want to avoid the "sleepies". Of course check with your vet first! My girl takes Costco's Kirkland Signature Omega-3 Fish Oil 1200mg once a day ~ 180 pills for about $16 when not on sale. Also lavender oil is very calming for some dogs – toxic to cats though. You can use the oil in a diffuser/warmer or apply a small amount to the back of the neck on the fur (too harsh for direct skin). If you've ever seen a "calming collar" in the pet store lavender is the main ingredient. The collars are nice but are one use only and last about a day.

Forgive me if I've bored y'all with my ramblings……I know dog and kitty training, behavioral and health stuff and am happy to share if I can help. I am also a self-proclaimed Raccoon Expert. I'm sure I used to know other stuff? Maybe?

Just ever so grateful for all the laughter and learning here!

    Hello Ladies,

Wow, you girls have been busy. I opened this thread and see I'm 5 pages behind. Have not had a chance to read through all of them, but wanted to pop in for a moment.

I made it back from California last night. I had a wonderful time with my friends and the cheesecakes traveled beautifully. It was 48 degrees here in Salem on the morning I left and 72 in Redding, CA. I was shocked to see how much Redding has changed in the last 20 years. Also, here in Oregon we aren't allowed to pump our own gas, so I haven't done it in 10 years. Quite a surprise to have to do it in California. Gas price was 65-75 cents per gallon higher in Calif.

Now on a disappointing note, I got an email from the breeder on Friday. Kyleigh had her pups on Thursday evening, but only had 2 females, so I won't be getting a puppy from her. I've already waited a year for Kyleigh and don't want to wait anymore. Breeder has offered to refund my deposit, but we'll see. The new stud she has, she got from a Cairn breeder in Idaho, so I have a call into her to see what she charges for her pups. She breeds copper or silver colored Cairns. Lets hope they aren't some astronomical price.

Hope you all had a wonderful Easter Holiday.

    Until next time.

Yay, Sacramentans!! Diagnosed last month but struggling to get traction post-surgery -- long story, still missing test results, trying to find the right oncologist. I'm with Hills Physicians and while I like my PCP and surgeon, the first run at an oncologist didn't go well, so am working on getting that referral changed. Limbo, anyone?

Ah well, this isn't the wee hours convo; is there another way to connect with local folks for recommendations? Newbie here; thanks!

  • Hi SacCat,

I'm fairly new here myself. Just DX March 7th, meeting the BS for the first time this Thursday on the 31st. Not sure that I'm totally prepared. Just taking it day by day. I know there are two other Sacramentans on here as well.

Sac and Sensitive- welcome to the thread. I am not in Sacramento but will say finding the right medical team and feeling a good fit with your MO is important. There is a good chance that person will be with you for a good five years through follow ups, so you want to be sure you can have a good rapport.

Maybe you guys should start a Sacramento thread? You can start your own threads here around anything (I started one around Prolia shots) and it may help others in your city find you to share or recommend providers they like? There are threads for different countries and cities here on BCO.

Let us know how else we can help?

hi saccat. I'm with Kaiser and so is Lover, she'll be along. But she knows people. Neither one of us had rads.

I did ask for a different PS because he wasn't a good fit. Go back to you pcp or mo and ask to see some else. And do it again if needed. Lots in Sacto.

Also, sorry to see you here. Bummer. As I told Sensi, if you'd like to talk, pm me

Smarrty, I second Kathy's words about Evie. Love seeing her pics.

Shepkitty, So happy with your answer. That was my gut response as to go with what I was seeing. My concern was with the amount of daily exercise were they getting enough protein.. On these runs I drive in the car and they run ahead or beside. The pace is what they set. Varies from stop and sniff to >15 MPHs. That's why I drive. When they are on a run, no way could I keep up. I wish all dogs could do this. It's a perfect scenario, barbed wire on one side and a canal on the other. The corridor is about 50 feet wide. The length is .8 miles. Usually it's up and back. Twice a day is 1.6. Three times a day 2.4. Allot of run and sniff area :) They have the strangest commands. 'Car'--means get in the car. They respond to a honk which can mean several things. One meaning is come. They are trained to be on one side of the rode starting out and the other side coming back. If they wander to the other side, I honk, and they know to get back on the side of the rode for the appropriate direction. This way limits the problem of trying to visually track two dogs. Took awhile to train DBF to why this was important. Keeps the dogs from getting run over. It's effectively a dead end, so, other cars are rare and they're is a whole set of responses to manage that.

At the end of the road is the Sheriff's ranch. Many a sheriff vehicle has passed us over the years. Rarely, do they say anything. Off leash is against the law. But they all know the routine and I'm sure they talk. They usually just wave. If anyone comes on the road with another dog we 'car' them :) Same with unknown walkers.

They're lot's of dog and cat owners here. I'm for one love they idea we have you here as a teacher. So, never fear about rambling.

Sensi and Sascat(welcome), that makes 4 of you on this thread from Sacramento. Cool. Nice to have folks close for lunches and kibitzing. I have a list of threads that I put together for newbies. It needs to be revised, but haven't gotten around to it. I'll send it by PM and you can use what you like. It has reference threads to get started. Like Jazzy said there are specific other threads. This is what's known as a social thread. People tend to have one home social thread and then may have other social threads they visit. Like Jazzy said about her prolia thread, I have one on constipation. Those are technical threads.

Shepkit, you are so generous and kind. Again, thank you. Mitzy is already on Omega 3. Benadryl and Zyrtec didn't even phase her as far as drowsiness. I think she was more anxious on them. Will try again to see. Her food and treats do not have BHA or BHT in them (just checked). Two of her treats have wheat as an ingredient, but her food is grain-free. Wonder if it's the wheat.

I have heard about the lavender. Need to get the oil. Anyway, how could you not love a face like this Winking

JunieB, glad you are home safely. I was starting to worry about you, but then remembered that you mentioned you would be visiting your friend in California at the end of March. Too bad about the pup :(

Okay, so Sacat, you drank the same water as Ms. Smarty, Sensi, and me too? I'm sorry you are here, but glad you found us. Yeah, I do have Kaiser. Will check with some of our docs from church to see if any of them have any recommendations. I'm waiting for a friend (pathologist) who works with Sutter to respond to my email. My husband really liked Dr. Delphine Ong. Great bed side manners. She was my mother-in-law's MO. Not sure if Dr. Ong is still with Dignity Health.

    Evie is a darling!

    Jazzy, hope you are better.

    Same with you Mags.

Ms. Sas, no more burning the midnight oil.

holeinone, ahhhhhhhhhhh, I am so sorry. Taxotere, and the other ones in the taxane group are yucky. Some chemos are what they are from the get go, never changing symptoms. Not so for the taxane group. Your symptoms get progressively worse. Be careful and alert. I held back info from doc in one if them, ended up with some damage to lungs that took a year to get better. Don't be silly like me, prayers and hugs your way. Here for you sister :

Thanks to all for the well wishes. It helps immensely from all of you that get it.

I am starting to feel better, 14 days post chemo. I am taking my family on a short trip next weekend to the beach in S. Calif. I cashed out some of my Roth IRA. I figured, now is the time, take a few short trips, on my "good" week.

Susan, I did have 4 dose dense of Taxol the first time. Minor neuropathy, lots of bone pain. The nurse practitioner told me the 1st dose was the worst & then it gets easier, on the Taxatere. I am leery when they say stuff like that, they have not taken these incredibly strong drugs. Thanks for the heads up. Also I got a smaller dose the first time, to see how it went.

Great to see YA pop in Tangadang......

Hiho, good to hear you are feeling better. Beach therapy is always good. Wishing you a blessed and safe trip.

ShepK, love the picture of Marti. She has such a sweet face. Her snout is twice as long as my Mitzy's. Hah! And those ears...

Sensi, in your pocket for tomorrow visit with the surgeon.

SaCat, will PM you the names of the oncologist.

Queenie, I was dismissed by the defense attorney. Hmmm.....interesting.

Yesterday, my digestive system was not too happy. I don't remember the last time both orifices were working so hard to evict whatever it was that didn't agree with me. Didn't know you can actually expel fluid out at opposite ends at the same time. Never happened to me before. Woke up feeling nauseous and thought maybe because I was hungry. On my way home after dropping the kids off to school, my stomach started to cramp up. Thank God I made it home just in time. Better today, but wiped out. Still have the big D, but no more vomiting. I can handle the D, but the dry heaves and the after taste of the gall is just nasty. Sorry Patty, Susan, and Rose for what you have had to go through. This experience makes me have even more compassion for you ladies.

lover, right now I am wishing for the big D. I am not actually sure which I prefer, but right now my swollen and sore and constipated gut wants the big D....lol. I told my hubby yesterday , I wish they could make a little whole at the top of my intestines and flush it with ice cold water. That sounds so good and relieving. What do you think.....should I have been a doctor??? Yeah no!! But I always have ideasLoopy

    Pp, how are you doing???

Susan, duh, they're 30 some pages of pooping talk on the constipation thread. A-Z poop. From traditional to alternative --everything in between and some good punning. Did you see the post to send on to the kids on making sure C-section kids get exposed to mom's biome? Still in research phase, but the research is moving very fast. With Andrew being a new ped doc resident, he would decipher the stuff really fast too.

Queenie & loverly what is the talk of dismissals and defense attorney's? Is it a coded message, not ready for prime time?

    Shep Marti's a cutie :)
