Truqap experience

stage 4 Mets to lung, liver, bones and lymph

On the sixth week of truqap, handling it pretty well. Some diarrhea that is unpredictable so I always have Imodium on hand. Sometimes I get nauseous and my taste is off.
My concern is for the blood sugar levels. Trying to keep my diet during the four days which is no sugars but it’s difficult. I’m hungry which is fantastic because I went 8 rounds of halaven with no appetite at all.

Well, it looks like the Truqap failed. Yesterday's PET scan showed progression - omental caking/mesenteric carcinomatosis. Will discuss our next line of treatment when I see my MO next week. I'm thankful to still have options.

The SE of rash/itching with the Truqap has gotten so bad that I'm scratching myself until I bleed. The prescribed anti-itch pill doesn't seem to be working. I have an appointment with the dermatologist today. My MO just decreased my dose of the Truqap and now it looks like I'm moving on to something else. I feel bad that my next bottle is supposed to come today. This stuff's expensive, although not to me since I've met my Part D copay deductible.

  • Sunshine, I have been on Truqap for 2 and a half months. My body is a mess with a rash that looks like chicken pox. To make matters worse, I had mild psoriasis, and now it is all over my scalp and body too. Although nothing says Truqap won't cause psoriasis flare ups it has to be from that or the Faslodex that is doing it. Can I ask what your rash looks like? My oncologist just prescribed Diflucan which is an anti-fungal pill and the warning is it shouldn't be taken with Truqap because it increases the Truqap medication in your system. She is having me stop Truqap this coming week. I take the Diflucan today, only 1 pill a week for 4 weeks. My next appt with Oncology is Halloween and I will be taking the 2nd Diflucan on that day. Then the decision will be made whether I go back on Truqap at the same time or stay off it for another week. I do not have any scans coming up until sometime in November to see if it is even working for me or not. If this rash and psoriasis doesn't clear up I will never wear short sleeves, shorts or anything that shows my upper chest again. It is so embarrassing, and I feel like a monster. You are in my prayers. Metastatic breast cancer sucks, I pray they find a cure for it.

@doggolove I was on Truqap for 6 months in 2023; The treatment worked well, then I developed red patches on my arms, back, torso, and legs. I also have psoriasis and I thought that was what was spreading but in fact I was having a reaction to Truqap despite the anti-allergy medication. So we stopped everything and the redness disappeared after a few weeks and as my scan showed a recurrence of metastases we did not reintroduce Truqap and I switched to Xeloda which is a chemo tablet.
I understand that you feel bad right now, but the rash will eventually disappear and you'll be able to wear nice clothes again soon. This is quite a difficult ordeal and I hope that your situation improves quickly. I send you my most positive thoughts. Here it is winter, the snow has appeared, so the shorts and tops have gone back into the wardrobe.🙂

  • Hi Soldanella,

Thank your for your input. My rash looks like dark red pimple looking things and if I touch or scratch them they have a flaky center. They look like guttate psoriasis more than a rash. They are scattered all over my body. I keep doing research and it seems that the Faslodex can cause this to happen too. I am off Truqap for the next week to see if it makes a difference. Have Faslodex shots on Halloween and my Zometa infusion. Getting cold here too so I will not be wearing anything that shows this mess on my skin. No scans till November to see if the Truqap is working. God Bless you and sending healing vibes your way.

@doggolove Just checking in on you to see if the break from Truqap resolved the rash? How are you doing?

  • Hi,

Still hard to pinpoint it. My oncologist put me on high doses of Prednisone and a lot of the rash has gotten better but not gone away. Saw my dermatologist this past week and she thinks this outbreak of the rash and psoriasis might just be caused by stress. She tends to think the rash is actually another form of psoriasis. She is putting me on Otezla, which I will start as soon as my insurance approves it and I can find help paying for it. Ridiculous how much meds cost to survive. I am in the process of weaning off the Prednisone and will be down to 1/2 tablet a day starting Monday, and will start taking my Truqap on Monday too. Oncologist said if the flareup comes back again after starting the Truqup they will look into reducing my dosage or try a different drug combination with the Faslodex. My head spins trying to keep track of all this stuff. Still waiting for my scan appts to be set up this month so I can even see if the Truqap is working. The waiting is horrible.

Thank you so much for checking in on me, I truly appreciate it.

    Cindy
