I try to stay busy this time of year. On the 29th it will be 2 years since DH died. Grief never ends, it just gets bearable. Sometimes it seems like yesterday and sometimes it is a long time ago.

Petite1 - I'm sorry. I'm sure the holidays are a hard time, and you are missing him a lot.

petite1: The holidays are stressful and even more so when you have a sad anniversary. I'm always happy to hear that you have some relatives and friends that are there for you. Yes, each year will be easier but even then, there will be times that it feels like it just happened.

Sending love and thinking of you, @petite1.

Thank you.

Waiting for results from my mamo and ultrasound on the new lump. 4 days to go.

petite1: I must have missed your message about a new lump. Hope the test come back negative.
I'll be traveling back to the USA on Friday—32 hours—if no delays. I have three appointments on Monday.

Good morning. The lump is an enlarged lymph node. It just needs to be monitored. Yay! No cancer!! My pool repairs are finished. So, things are getting back to normal. Whatever that is….

@petite1 that is great news, we're so happy to hear this. Thank you for updating us ❤️

That's great news!!! Good to hear about the pool nearing completion.
I think I mentioned that I would be trying to sell my house early next year. I have so much stuff to try to sell including some really nice pieces that I've collected in my estate sales hunting.
Saw my MO about the pain in my femur and a rash on my breast. She wants to do a CT scan of the leg and a diagnostic mammogram. I'm doing the CT tomorrow but not sure when for the other. I'd love to do it this year before the insurance clock starts again.
I go to TN to be with my mom for Christmas on Thursday. I think I'll rent a car and drive back before the new year. After all these trips to Africa this year, I hate airports and airplanes. Besides, it takes me about seven hours to get to the airport and home from my mom's and it's only 11 if I drive. I'd rather drive.

Petite1 - Yay! I'm glad there's no cancer! Now you can relax during the holidays.
Kamboka - Christmas in Tennessee sounds beautiful! Have a safe trip!

My CT scan of the leg was negative. Not sure what caused my problem.
It's cold in TN (29 degrees last night) and I managed to get a cold for the last four days. I don't like taking meds so everyday I'm hoping it will be the last day of the cold.
There is some kind of park that has Christmas lights that I told my mom I'd drive her and my uncle to this weekend. I hope I can stay awake since I've been going to bed by 8pm. This place opens at 6pm and is 1 1/2 away.

Kamboka, yay no cancer. I enjoyed my trip to TN last year. My niece is taking me to Alabama after Christmas. I am looking forward to it.

Happy belated New Year!!! I guess petite1 is in TN. It's cold up there so hope you get back here before next week when it's really cold.

Kamboka - Happy New Year to you too!
We had a pretty cold December, then it was warmer over the holidays. Now it's so cold and only going to get colder. Today the wind chill was in the 20s and 10s. Chance of light snow tomorrow and Monday and windy. Next 2 weeks will be highs in the 20s. Ugh! My parents are leaving for Florida on Saturday and I wish I could hitch a ride with them!

mocame: It will be a bit cooler than normal here next week (some days in the 50s) but nothing like where you are. I'm sure that in two weeks it will be in the 70s or 80s in FL. I'm heading on a Caribbean cruise in two weeks. It will definitely be warmer.

Kamboka- Good for you! I love to cruise. Where are you going?

Good morning. Happy New Year!
My trip to Alabama was good. The weather was overcast most of the time and it rained most of the way home. Good to go and great to get home. LOL
Kamboka, have a nice trip!

I forgot to mention that I drove back from TN to FL last weekend. I spent the night in Montgomery. Got up to leave and discovered that my rental truck had the window broken out. Another man had the same issue. The police said that four other trucks had been broken into that night at another hotel. It was a seemingly decent location. That set me back four hours as I had to try and find a rental agency to change out the vehicle. The Montgomery agencies did not want to do it so I had to drive over to Columbus GA. This is not the world that I grew up in. Sad, and sad about the New Orleans attack.

mocame: I'm doing a seven day cruise to PR, DR, St. Maarten. Then I'm turning around in a few days to do an 11 day cruise to the Panama canal. I'll hit Key West, Cayman, Cozumel, Ocho Rios, Costa Rico, Cartagena and Panama. I'll then have to fly back as it's a one way. I had a free ticket so it didn't cost extra. I'm going solo an these deals came up that didn't charge double for a single so that's how I ended up with two back to back.

Kamboka, that is terrible about the broken windows. I agree, it is a different world. Sad.
The trip sounds wonderful. Since I am solo, a great deal like that is hard to find. Speaking of solo. I went out on a date. I am not ready for a relationship and want a friend. He is more interested in something more. My mom had a friend and it worked for her. They went to lunch and an occasional concert. That is all I want. A friend…

petite1: I like your mom's philosophy. I'm excited about your 'date'. It's one step at a time. I think the only time I miss not having my husband is to share the fun things in life, like traveling and other exciting experiences that are more fun as a couple. I'm used to being solo so my cruise and a few other travel experiences will probably be better alone. I think friendships and love happen when we least expect it.

Sorry for the long delay in checking in. I hope both of you are okay.
I have had a whirlwind few weeks. I had my cruise to the Panama Canal on 1/29. Two days before I was to leave, my engine light came on and I got fired! I'm one of the folks from the infamous USAID. I have to say that as a taxpayer, I was appalled at the waste. On the other hand, I did mainly health (AIDS, malaria, etc) and didn't see quite as much craziness. I'm a contractor so not entitled to any severance. They just didn't renew my contract which was up on the 29th. Needless to say, that cast a pall over my vacation for the first few days. By the end, I was better. The canal was an amazing engineering feat and I enjoyed the other six stops along the way. Then I came home and started filing for Medicare and Social Security. Luckily, I can Cobra the health insurance but it just costs more than Medicare. I am actually lucky since many of my colleagues were younger and don't have that cushion to fall back on. However, I will admit that the govt is completely inefficient. I'm still fighting to get my final payments which amounts to a few months of upkeep for me. I had planned to work a few more years so I'll see what else I can do. I had already been planning to sell my house so I don't know where I'll be living after that. Ideally, I'd get something remote on a part time basis. My car is old and the light has been reset and the problem is not major—so I'm still mobile.

Kamboka - Wow what a crazy few weeks you have had! I'm sorry you lost your job but yes, there seems to be a lot of government inefficiency. It's just sad that you had to lose your job over it. I'm glad there wasn't anything major wrong with your car. They're like computer…great when they work but when they don't… I would love to see the Panama Canal. I've seen the canal/locks in New York when I was a child, but those are small compared to the Panama Canal. How was the cruise part?

The ship, NCL Jade, was dark and dreary compared to the Celebrity ships I've been on—or it could just be that I felt dark and dreary. :) They did not have a very active cruise director or activities. I found myself bored in the afternoons and on sea days. There were at least 40 solo travelers on board and only 22 children. Luckily, they had satellite TV so I had some news channels and a few with shows and movies. I had seven ports and they were all new to me: Key West, Cozumel, Grand Cayman, Ocho Rios, Columbia, Colon Panama, Port Limon Costa Rico and then to Panama City. I had a cheap bus tour at each place. The canal took about 10 hours to transit so I'd so outside every few hours to see us go through another part of the canal. I had a small cheap inside cabin but it was okay as I just would go outside. It was never crowded outside as I guess so many folks had balcony room and could just stay in their rooms. We got to go through the old (original) canal with their six locks since our ship was small. The big ships and freighters have to go through the new canal which was build in 2016. For the price I got the cruise, I guess I can't complain.

Bummer that the cruise ship was dark and dreary. I've never cruised with that line so I don't know what their ships are like. I've been on Holland America and Royal Carribean but it's been 30 years since I was on a cruise. I'd love to do it again, though. There are a lot of new cruise lines than when I last cruised. I've never been to those ports. Sounds like it was at least a relaxing time.
I hope things stay calm for you as you figure out what your next steps with employment and your house.

Kamboka, WOW. I am sad you lost your job. I did contract work for a couple of years after I retired. I enjoyed it because I did not need to depend on it. It takes all the stress out of working. You might be able to do some independent contract work for some hospitals. The cruise sounds interesting. I don't really like the big cruise lines. I have to renew my passport and check it out. Hope your car hangs in there and isn't a major repair.
Well, I decided to go out on a date with a guy I met at the grief center. He was looking for a replacement and I was looking for a friend. Needless to say, it did not work out and I am not in a hurry to do it again.
My grand nephew and his wife are taking me to Charleston for a spring vacation in May. I am looking forward to it.

petite1: At least you tried the date. That's what matters. It's been over 10 years, I think, since I had a date. It gets harder as the years goes on, so you should definitely take the opportunity when it presents itself. The best you can hope for is a nice time and a good meal. Anything else is beyond my expectations. :) Enjoy Charleston. I do love the city. Have you been to Savannah? I might like Savannah even better.

Kamboka and Petite1 - It's so funny that both of you mentioned going to Charleston and Savannah. Some friends and I are going there at the end of March. There will be 5 of us going. We rented a airbnb in Foley Beach and then another airbnb in-town Savannah. I don't know a lot about either city but I'm excited to go! I'm also excited about going somewhere warm!

mocame: You won't be disappointed with these two cities. I love the history and the southern charm. In Savannah, I did the hop on hop off bus so as to get a good overview and not have to worry about parking. I just walked around in Charleston. We are going to have a very cold—for us—weekend but hopefully that will be the worst for the season. So hoping by the time you get to the cities, it will be wonderful spring weather.
