petite1: Glad that you are safe and sounds like you might not have had extensive damage. I guess we are lucky that it moved so quickly even though it was devastating to that area that got hit last year. I'm so sad for TN/NC mountain area. It sounds like it will be even more deaths as they get to people. I know that area and can't believe what happened. I'm back at work overseas and counting the days already to when I can get back home. I think I've decided to sell but have so much to do to make that happen—including what to do for a home afterwards.

Kamboka, stand by for round 2. Milton is coming in Weds. as a Cat 2.

Fingers crossed that the next one gets downgraded. The poor folks from Helene, especially in NC. I used to live in Charlotte and know the mountain areas. I couldn't believe the damage and Helene moved quickly. Anyway, I'm back at work and counting the days till December when I can come back home.

Will be praying for both of you and that his hurricane gets downgraded. My parents have a double-wide in Lorida, Florida. They just got back last week from spending a couple weeks there getting it ready for January when they go down for the winter.

mocame: thanks for your concern. My sister is traveling on Tuesday to JAX to get my mom. Sister lives in Port St. Lucie. Looks like we both will get rain and winds. I'm more worried about the gulf side and the Tampa area.

    petite1: Keep us updated.

Thank you. It is very strange here. People are so overwhelmed. Many people are saying "there is no where to go." I am afraid this will be another total disaster. The debris is piled up along the streets. The county and FEMA are trying to get as much as they can hauled out. They are working 24/7.

There is a run on toilet paper. I did find a package. I need more hurricane food staples, but will do that later on today. I was just happy to get some toilet paper. I will go sit in line for gas in a little while. I had to come home and decompress.

petite1: My prayers are with you and my fellow Floridians this week. I can't imagine doing this prep and the anxiety week after week when there are storms back to back. Is your house stucco or brick? Does it have some cover or is it out in the open? Are you in a flood zone?

My brother had brought his generator when he came a few weeks ago. My brother in law is bring other supplies to my house, just in case.

petite1: It's not looking great for Tampa. Are you evacuating? If so, to where?

petite1: Praying that you safe and that your house survives without any major damage.

I'm not happy that my sister and BIL decided to take my 85 yo mom to PSL for the hurricane instead of staying in JAX. Now, I hear the hurricane moved south and they lost power hours ago. They are sleeping in the 'safe' room d/t the tornadoes in the area. The generator will not last forever. Did she not think about if mom had a medical emergency? Anyway, I'm sure now my mom will not want to move to FL.

Looking forward to hearing back from you.

Petite1 - Praying that you are safe!

Kamboka - I'm so sorry that your mom was put in that scary situation. Doesn't make sense, especially after hearing what happened with Helene. Hearing about and seeing videos of all of the tornadoes in Florida was scary. Praying that your family is safe.

Kamboka, mocame. I am ok. I am north of Tampa. All families members in Pinellas County (St. Petersburg) have either wind or water damage to their homes. Those that evacuated can't come back until the county deems it safe. What a mess!

petite1: GLad you are safe and sorry about the damage to your folks in the area. Sounds like you still don't know about your house. Prayers!

I am listening to Gov DeSantis now (I get USA TV on my Firestick) and he just said that the most tornadoes were in St. Lucie County. That's my sister's county. She wrote me hours ago and said they were safe and going out to survey any damage when the winds died down.

Forgot to say that my neighbor told my brother that he didn't see any damage at my home.

My house is fine. I did get out, yesterday, to look around and we lucked out up here. There is still so much damage from Helene, but not much from Milton.

petite1: That's great news! Yes, Tampa really did dodge the bullet this time. Maybe that was a once in a thousand year near miss. My sister in PSL said they only lost power for a few minutes here and there. She was lucky too since there were so many tornadoes in the area.

kamboka, My Pinellas county family is dealing with a mess. My niece has trees down, gutter ripped off, awning ripped off, no power for days and sadly dead wildlife that ended up in her yard. My brother had water and downed fence, plus no power for days. My grand niece had trees down and a big one fall on her neighbor's house, plus water in 2 room (including the baby's room). They have a generator, fortunately. My grand nephew just had water in the garage.

Up here in the Nature Coast we just had wind from this one.

On other news, I saw the PCP and had a miserable visit. The Medical Assist is a know it all and doesn't listen. The PA is rude and thinks people with gray hair are stupid and deaf. I wanted to slap her. My PCP would not listen and is mad at the Cancer center. He thinks I have cancer, again. He won't listen. Not the best visit I ever had.

Petite1 - Oh my. Im so sorry your family is going through so much. I cant imagine. How frustrating that your PCP wont listen to you. Why does he think you have cancer again?

My CEA was elevated, but lower than when I had cancer. I told him to look online at the graph, but her couldn't figure out how to do it and mad at the Cancer center for not sending everything to him.

That's crazy. I would be looking for a new PCP. With everything you have been through, you dont need that.

petite1: You are going through some things!!

First, it's too bad that your PCP and team are not listening and/or making you feel comfortable. Many times our enzymes and indicators are out of norm but that doesn't mean the cancer has returned. My doctor has a blood test that she has done and wants to do again that tests if there is any cancer in the system. I'll have to find the name of it and share later.

I'm so sad about what your family is going through. No one everyone gets back enough money to replace the memories that they have lost. At least they are in FL which has an active response team unlike our poor folks in NC/TN.

    Keep us updated.

Here is the screening site: guardanthealth.com

It's interesting because my MO wont do any bloodwork that could potentially show if cancer is there or not. I think it's because of false positives, but Im not really sure.

  • kamboka
    kamboka Member Posts: 1,079

You are correct that most MO don't like to do the blood markers. I've only had them done one. This Guardant test has to be sent to the company and took a few weeks to get the results back. It's similar to Onco testing, I think. Sometimes insurance doesn't pay. It's only a snapshot for the moment and is not predictive, is what I think they told me. I've only had it done once as I was switching insurance companies and didn't want to get stuck with a huge bill.

Kamboka & mocame, I have confidence in the cancer center and if they say I don't have cancer, I believe them. My PCP is OK most of the time, but he had the little intern with him and I think that is what caused all the problems.

petite1: We must have confidence but always be our 'best' advocate. Even though I'm a nurse, several times over my lifetime, my own abilities has saved me. At this point, and being about five years out, I'm not thinking too much about cancer. If it comes back, I'll deal with it then. Otherwise, I think we all just need to enjoy the moment!
