petite1: Long time. How are you? Is it hot there? I left for my overseas assignment on Memorial day. Got stranded in Dallas d/t thunderstorms that caused me to miss my connection flight. The next day flight was full so did two days in Dallas. We had a fabulous cruise to Alaska. We then got off the ship and took a train through Denali national park to Fairbanks. I'll have to share a few photos later. I was so tired from travel as I also got stranded in Nashville trying to get back to JAX and it cost me almost $600. Luckily, I remembered a I had purchased travel insurance for the cruise and it paid me back for the cost of the hotel and change fees for my ticket. I was so happy about that. My neighbor sent me a picture of my yard. The grass was burning up. I have a sprinkler system but not there to turn it on. My brother in law drove 3 hours up from PSL to turn on the sprinklers. I see that south FL is getting loads of rain and JAX has not gotten much. Maybe next week looks promising.
Also to report that my 85 y.o mom took a fall last weekend. She went to the local hospital and they only did an x-ray and discharged her. She was in excruciating pain and had blood in the urine. I told my sister to immediately take her to another ER when she arrived there from FL. She did and, low and behold, my mom had six fractured ribs, another fracture on one of the ribs, three fractured vertebrae, contusion on the lung, small hairline fracture on a hip and a UTI. Needless to say, we were not happy with the first hospital and we'll be filling a complaint. Hopefully, the brace will allow healing, if not, they mentioned surgery. I've asked to take off September and part of October to go help out. My sister can stay through summer. This is another reason I don't like working overseas anymore—but I have to pay the bills. In the next year, I'll look for something I can do either remote or in the States.

I was trying out a new camera and didn't take as many photos as I should have. It was heavy but had a 30x lens. Here are a few of my best landscapes—the Hubbard glacier, scenery between Seward and Anchorage, Denali (Mt. McKinley), and so many eagles. We were lucky to get sunshine for the train ride. Normally, Mt. Denali is cloud covered and they said 7 out of 10 times, you will not get to see it.

Hello there!
Petite1 - How are you? How is your summer going?
Kamboka - I'm sorry to hear about your mom's fall. That's terrible that with so many broken bones they didn't see the obvious and she was in so much pain. I hope she heals quickly and you can find a job from the states. Your pictures are beautiful! Alaska is on my bucket list.
I have been busy at one. I know I always say that but it takes up so much of my time. We actually had a month this year that I could work normal hours and then it changed back again. My boss has asked the president if we can hire another employee for our department and he said no. Now we will have even more job duties added to our current ones. At least my new boss is really nice to work for.
My work changed their insurance company at the beginning of the year. Because of that, my Prolia injection is considered a specialty drug and I now have to get it from a specialty pharmacy. The Drs office and I have been working on this since March. We went through 2 specialty pharmacies and just got the approval for the drug this month. I will be able to get the injection this coming week, although I am over a month late getting it.
I am heading to California on Friday. I'm so excited! I am going with my daughter, her best friend, and her best friend's mom, who happens to be a really good friend of mine. We're going to Disneyland and spending a couple of days touring California.

mocame: Is this your first time to CA Disneyland? I've not been there in over 30 years. I'm still trying to get myself to Disneyworld, right in my neck of the woods. Hope you have a great time.
I changed insurance companies too and they will not pay for my Wegovy. I've appealled but no luck. My MO says that I might not have to take any more Relast since my numbers was very good on the bone density test.
Glad you like your boss. That really helps when your job duties are challenging.

So wonderful to hear from you both! I had cataract surgery and now adjusting to life without glasses. I had corrective replacement lenses put in. It was an expense that insurance did not cover. My gutter system plugged up and caused damage to the support struct for the roof over the back porch. That was an expensive repair. I have been trying to increase my Ebay sales to help my financials and put myself on a budget. I have also been selling to jewelry stores and pawn shops. I think if I do this for a year, I might be able to make it up. Hopefully no other disasters in that time frame. When my husband died, his pension died. I only have my social security, the rental income and when the market is good dividends. The outgoing exceeds the incoming, so that has to change.
I am off anastrozole. No instant changes. My joints are still stiff, etc.
mocame, My trip to Calf. was a terrible. The RV broke down in nearly every state. We hit the border, said we made it and returned back to Florida and sold the RV. LOL
kamboka, that trip sounds like a nightmare. Your pictures are beautiful. Maybe that trip should be on my bucket list. Your poor mom.

Petite1 - May I ask why you're off Anastrozole? Was it because of jount pain? My MO said at least 10 years, maybe lifetime with periodic breaks to something else.

mocame, the Cancer Center did a test and said I didn't need to do another 5 years. The current 5 years is not up, but I ran out of pills and decided to stop it a few months early.

petite1: Glad your test came back showing you can stop the AIs. I've been so bad as I promised the MO I would restart my AIs and I haven't taken a one since February.

Hi, I am getting ready for a mini vacation with my niece and her friend. We are staying in a little cabin at the Guy Harvey resort in Lake Wales. I am looking forward to it.

Where is lake wales? Hope you have fun.

My trip was great. Good to get away and good to get home. LOL Lake Wales is in the center of the state, between Lakeland & Kissimmee.

Petite1 - I'm glad you had a good mini-trip. Did your cabin have a/c?
I went to California with my daughter and friends. We got back on 6/29. Had a great time. I'm heading to the Chesapeake Bay on Saturday with my husband's family for a few days. Then my family is going to Rehobeth Beach, DE for a few days after that, although they are predicting rain.
I am about to give up on ebay. I'm so tired of people wanting to return things because they can't read or look at the pictures, and ebay will let them send it back and I lose money. I just had someone ask to return a wallet because it didn't have a strap on it that it would've had when it was new. This is a used Thirty One wallet that I sold to her cheap. It had 12 pictures of it from every angle. It does not show a strap anywhere in the pictures and neither do I mention there being a strap in my description, but that's why she is returning it. I had someone buy a brand new pack of lightbulbs and want to return them because they didn't fit. I didn't respond and let ebay tell them they had so many days to return it to get a refund…They never returned it. So annoying. I like doing it but they only stuff that has been selling lately is the cheaper stuff and they want it even cheaper and they want to return it like it's Amazon. Thanks for letting me vent. :)
I hope you both are staying cool!

petite1: Glad your trip to Lake Wales was good. One day I'll explore central FL.
mocame: It's okay to vent since we both understand what you are going through. Sorry about your experiences with Ebay. I couldn't sell anything but I guess that's better than selling and then having to offer refunds and deal with post office and that stuff all the time. The thing I hate worse than that is taking all the photos and then uploading them so that the buyer can see all angles. I know you are frustrated with you taking all those photos and the people decide it's not what they want.
I so would love to retire. I'm still thinking seriously about selling my house. I am so worried that something will go wrong when I'm gone. And, I'm paying mortgage for most of the year and I'm not even able to live there. Not sure where I'll go though. I'd like to keep FL as my home base—whatever that means.

mocame, my ebay is not doing very well. I had someone complain a necklace wasn't silver, but it is. They returned it and I re-tested it and it is silver. It is always bad in the summer. I do need the little income it generates, so I guess I will keep on trying.
Kamboka, selling your house sounds like a difficult decision for you. Maybe you could get a little condo for your home base?

petite1: Are you all in the TS/hurricane zone? I am still overseas but following the trajectory into JAX. It's so hard to be gone during this time of year. Fingers crossed that we will not get the heavy hurricane season that they are predicting.

Hi, Kamboka. It has been a strange storm. Not as bad as Idalia. The eye has not reached Jax, yet. I am sure it is storming up there. Last time I checked the eye was in Lake City. It is a large wet storm dumping a lot of water. We had flooding in the places it usually floods, but less than predicted.

Hi. I just got back from Key West. Anything new with you all?
0 -
Hello Petite1! How was Key West?
It's been a little eventful here. Apparently my husband wasnt feeling well for about 1 1/2 months and didnt tell me. He went to the dr, who sent him to the ER. Long story short, he ended up having a 95% blockage in his main artery (widowmaker) and some other arteries were diseased so he had a quadruple heart bypass surgery the next morning. Very fortunate to still be here. He's only 58, has an active job, and wasnt overweight. That was about 10 days ago. He cant drive, lift more than 5 lbs or push/pull with his arms for a month. Probably wont be able to go back to work for at least 3 months. He is self-employed so we wont have his income coming in. There are some heart issues in his family but I was hoping he would start to eat better but he only wants to make minor changes in his diet. Hopefully it will be enough to not cause any more issues in the future.
Other than that, not much going on.

mocame: Wow, what an eventful time for you and your family. He is young and glad that medicine has progressed to the point when you hear someone had a bypass, it's like they had a colonoscopy. I know that's not how it feels for your husband but I'm so happy his problem was caught early. Hope he take the downtime to get some rest, improve his lifestyle and think about how he wants to continue his work.
I'm still overseas and will be heading home on my 30+ hour travel ordeal on the 31st. I'll go to be with my mom, who has done well with recuperation. I will have to go back overseas at the end of September for another two and a half months. I'm so ready to retire but don't have the retirement money. My sister and brother in law are three years younger than me and they decided to go on a 21 day Africa cruise. Both retired right after COVID. I wish I had saved money like they did.
Anyway, I am going on two short cruises in January as a solo traveler. One of them is a four day to Key West and the Bahamas. So petite1, I can't wait to hear about your Key West vacation. I can't wait to go on vacation. My work has been so busy. I do about 12 hours a day but only about six on Fridays.

mocame, Sorry to hear about your husband. I am wishing him a quick recovery. He will have to take it easy for a while.
kamboka, those overseas trips sound tiring. Maybe you can find something stateside for a while, before you retire.
My Key West trip was fun. The long drive was tough, but I made it. I was the oldest one of the group. My niece and I drove in my truck. Her friend brought her aunt and cousin in a rental car. We shopped, ate, went to the beach, took a lot of pictures and generally enjoyed our selves. My niece's friend is dealing with lung cancer, s/p lobectomy and now a brain lesion. She had a PET scan a few days ago and waiting for the results. The cancer center is doing immunotherapy. She previous had open heart surgery, that was just before my husband died. She is only in her early 50's. Hopefully this was not her last girl's trip.

petite1: I absolutely love road trips! That's the reason I'm seriously considering buying an RV and living on the road for a year or two. I just can't decide on what type. My four day cruise in January will hit Key West. I've never been. I thought about flying down last year but the hotel costs were so high and I was going alone so would have to bear the entire cost. I've actually been staying a Holiday Inn for the last six months and have lots of free nights. However, there are no IHG hotels in Key West.

Kamboka, I thought about an RV, but I don't think my cat would like it. LOL I had one during my first marriage and it turned into a nightmare. I remembered the states by what broke down in them. So maybe not the best I idea I ever had. October is our bigger vacation to the mountains and this year we are adding Savannah.

petite1: I see lots of folks on you tube that travel with their cats. I love cats but am highly allergic. I also see people talk about what was breaking down on their rigs, even the new ones. Apparently, the quality of build got worse during COVID as they were pumping them out like crazy. My brother has one for seven years and he thinks I can do it alone. The fact that I'd be solo has slowed down my decision to really get one and the type. One day, I'm in a travel trailer and the next I want a motorhome. I head back home on Saturday. Can't wait to get home but dread the long ride.

Kamboka, have a safe trip

After flying 21 hours with 3 hours of sitting around in airports, I get to Philly and there is a delay. I sat around there for another seven hours before flying to JAX. I don't think it would be profound enough to say that I hate flying!!! Got to bed at 3am. Got up at 10 to start doing laundry. I'm on my fifth load. I only have five days home before flying to my mom's in TN. I'll stay there for almost three weeks before coming back and doing the journey back over the seas again.

Kamboka - Glad you made it home safely. I hope you enjoy and get to relax during the 3 weeks with your mom!

petite1: How did you do with the hurricane? We had awful winds between 10 pm - 2 am. Then the sun came out all day today. I was supposed to leave back overseas today but I changed my flight for Sunday. However, the flight did leave tonight so I could have gone. My mom came to FL with me on Monday and she will stay at my house with my brother until middle of the month. Then she'll go to stay with my sister in PSL till Thanksgiving.

My hurricane evacuees just left. I have seen a lot of hurricanes in my 70 some years, but this was a monster. Hope all is well.
