Today, hundreds of activists gathered at trump Tower in New York City to demand justice for Mahmoud Khalil, a pro-Palestinian advocate unjustly arrested by ICE. Organized by Jewish Voice for Peace, about 150 participants staged a sit-in in the lobby, wearing red t-shirts with pro-Palestinian slogans and chanting "Free Mahmoud" and "Free Palestine." This bold action highlighted the need to protect free speech and challenge the Trump administration for seemingly arresting someone for exercising their 1st amendment rights, which, in this writer’s opinion, is the most un-american thing you can do.
The NYPD responded swiftly as they tend to do when anyone on the left is holding a protest. 98 people were arrested on charges like trespassing and obstructing governmental administration. Despite the heavy-handed policing, the trump Tower protest was peaceful in nature; there were no reports of damage to the building, or incidents of vandalism and unsurprisingly, no poop was smeared on the walls either.
As protests like these continue to erupt across the country, it's striking how little attention they receive from mainstream media. But there are millions of people who are on the right side of history and we all gotta do what we can to push back against the swelling tide of maga fash. I applaud any and every one who gets out into the streets with justice on their mind and peace in their heart.
This makes more sense to me in view of the earlier meme about this same thing.

Thou that has given so much to me, give one thing more--a grateful heart; Not thankful when it pleases me, as if Thy blessings had spare days. But such a heart, whose pulse may be Thy praise.

Something I saw this morning:
Today's Limerick
There once was a man with no plan
He assured us through his fake tan:
Oh just you wait!
Things will be great
Just like the casino's I ran.

The limerick sounds like something Dr. Seuss would have written and it made me chuckle. Why anyone would trust a man whose business plans were colossal flops is beyond my ken. His wealth is supposedly a paper shell that he seems hellbent on having flop yet again.
His plan to use government money in cryptocurrency is scary since it is purely speculative. If it fails, we the people, will suffer and have to pay.

'Discontent': Trump in big trouble with majority of voters — here's why
Barely more than 50 days into his second term, President Donald Trump appears to be failing in the eyes of a majority of American voters on nearly every major issue — from the economy to immigration to the war in Ukraine to trade to his handling of the federal workforce and more —according to a new poll released Thursday by the highly-respected Quinnipiac University.
"A noticeable uptick of discontent can be seen over President Trump's handling of a range of issues: from Ukraine to the economy to the federal workforce," Quinnipiac University polling analyst Tim Malloy said in a statement.
A majority of Americans, 53%, disapprove of the president's performance overall, with just 42% approving. That's a significant swing (11 points) on the disapproval side from Quinnipiac's January 29 poll, which found 46% percent of Americans approved of the new president's performance, and 42% disapproved.
Fox News host Jessica Tarlov gave an overview of the poll's results, telling viewers (video below), "So basically, he is underwater on everything."
On one of the most strongly-negative questions, 60% of voters oppose President Trump's plan to dismantle the U.S. Department of Education. Just one in three support it. Another major negative is Trump's position on trade with Canada: 58 percent of voters disapprove of his handling of that issue, just 36 percent approve. That is closely followed by trade with Mexico (56% disapprove).
Historically, the economy has been one of Trump's strongest approval areas. That is no longer the case.
A majority of voters, 54%, disapprove of Trump's handling of the economy — just 41% approve.
"In the Quinnipiac poll released today, 1 percent of voters describe the state of the America’s economy as excellent. That’s not a typo," observed Democratic strategist Matt McDermott.
On that topic, Quinnipiac reported, a whopping "76 percent describe it as either not so good (45 percent) or poor (31 percent)."
According to Quinnipiac's numbers, voters thought President Joe Biden's economy was better in his last full month (December) than they think President Trump's is now.
Quinnipiac University's December 2024 poll found 34 percent described the economy "as either excellent (3 percent) or good (31 percent) and 64 percent described it as either not so good (31 percent) or poor (33 percent)."
Immigration, also once a strong area for Trump, no longer is.
Nearly half of voters, 49%, disapprove of Trump's handling of immigration issues. 46% approve.
Other negatives include his handling of the Russia - Ukraine war (55% disapprove), the federal workforce (also 55% disapprove), foreign policy (53% disapprove,) and the military (48% disapprove).
Trump's Oval Office dressing down of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy did not go over well with the American voter.
"Fifty-eight percent of voters disapprove of the way President Trump handled the recent meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky at the White House, while 35 percent approve."
Trump's overall approval rating (42%) is actually one point below what voters gave President Zelenskyy (43%
Meanwhile, six in ten voters (61%) think Trump is not hard enough on Russia, while half (50%) think he is too tough on Ukraine.
In fact, the only issue where Trump's overall favorable outweighed his unfavorable rating is trade with China, which has not made many headlines recently. On that issue, 46% approve, 44% approve, a narrow margin.
But even in areas not directly tied to Trump's approval rating, voters oppose the President's position, at least in part.
"More than half of voters (57 percent) think that children who have not received standard vaccinations should not be allowed to attend schools and childcare facilities, while 35 percent think that children who have not received standard vaccinations should be allowed to attend schools and childcare facilities," Quinnipiac found.
On the President's Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), 60% of voters "disapprove of the way Elon Musk and the Department of Government Efficiency," Quinnipiac found, "are dealing with workers employed by the federal government, while 36 percent approve."
Republicans (77 - 16 percent) approve, while Democrats (96 - 2 percent) and independents (68 - 28 percent) disapprove.
Fifty-four percent of voters think Elon Musk and DOGE are hurting the country, while 40 percent think they are helping the country.
President Trump has ordered that any school that requires vaccinations for COVID-19 will be defunded.
"TIMBER!" exclaimed SiriusXM host Dean Obeidallah, who wrote that the poll shows, "Trump's approval rating falling as fast as he's killing stock market."
"ONLY 42% approve of Trump's presidency. That is LOWEST EVER for 2nd term President at 50 days," he noted.

Mentioned before - Dad was a very staunch Republican and my Mom was a Democrat. I don't recall that they ever discussed politics much, but my Dad always listened to Meet The Press (me — yawn, yawn, yawn then) and likely others if they were on the Sunday shows back then in mid 50's and beyond.

Yes, and they are both evil, mad, and demented.

That would be ignorant whiskered face dirt bag. I hope there is good success in turning some tables on him.

No wonder his rockets come apart once in the air. His math skills leave a little something to be desired.

Way, way too many people who should see this don't. It won't make Fox News and likely not too many of the other rt. wing outlets — if any. They don't know they are being ruled by a lunatic.

Which rather begs the question how long do we have to go on with this charade.

And all of us (many Reps. as well) along with allies and other countries are looking over here saying WTF very loudly.

Sadly, Putin bought Trump so he is a complete asset. Going to make things harder by far.

And everyone has a right to call you out Little Marco — you have turned into total slop.

Most absolutely.

This fool couldn't do it but he has 2025 and Putin pushing hard.

It is hard to read a lot of these things today. To hear and watch the things that Trump and Musk are doing and to know that not only they but the rt. wing media are playing with our lives. I think of how much we don't hear and thank god we hear what we do. The rt. hears even less for the lies and refusal to be honest with them.
I read earlier (and I rather think it likely this is how things are) that this time around bands of people like Proud Boys, Three Percenters, Oath Keepers and others like them (that would be mercenaries) will take up arms for Trump. Partly why I imagined he pardoned them all. That is not a happy thought at all — confrontations on the home front will not be a very good thing at all.
If anything, though, being able to read that soooo many people are thinking they are getting upended by trump (and indeed they are) does feel better. Not that it has to happen at all, but at least seeing it in black and white — and knowing that Fox and Rupert Murdock are NOT extolling Trump and Musk's actions at all we can feel that people at some point will SEE that a huge mistake has been made by them. How long it will take to force things back the other direction. These things were somewhat expected, but I think it has been a rather large surprise to have them come this soon. I would hope it all just continues to drown the top guy and his henchman because it will have to get where much more ends up being admitted. I far rather this didn't have to happen here, but apparently 4 yrs. of the orange fool was not quite enough. Hard to believe he worked so hard at it back then and still couldn't convince some that he cares for no one but himself.

Can you say black shirts, brown shirts? This is exactly who those groups will become if force is needed.

I'm sure that's why he pardoned them, exbrnx, it's why he's also firing generals. He wants a militia & military devoted to HIM, not the Constitution.

Here's a take on this. I'm glad I read it because I was rather upset that the vote was to go with the CR.
From another post:
"Clipboard from a more erudite friend, I hate that Chuck Schumer is right. Let me explain.
I've been through furloughs when I was in the government. When the government is open, employees are required to work, the government is required to pay them, and you have to jump through hoops to fire them. And, in fact, the WH just got its hands slapped for firing people illegally.
If the government is closed, the arrow completely reverses. The WH has absolute -- absolute -- authority to determine who is essential and non-essential. Employees are required NOT to work and the government may NOT pay them, and you have to jump through hoops to bring them in and then retroactively pay them. But there is no incentive, none, to the Republicans to do that, or to reopen the government. Every day it's closed, they save money. Every day it's closed, it will shed employees who cannot afford not to work.
Schumer was absolutely right about closing the government being Christmas for the Republicans. The Republicans could pass minimal or piecemeal funding bills that allow some departments to reopen and not others. They could pass a bill that gives funding only to the Pentagon and Homeland Security, while leaving Education, Agriculture, and State zeroed and shut down, as long as they like. The whole rest of the fiscal year, even. Disastrously, it would completely blow up the legal argument that Trump and Musk are violating the law and Congress' power of the purse (specifically the Impoundment Act). Right now, Congress has ordered these agencies to spend funds and the executive is in violation of the law by refusing to do it. If Congress chooses NOT to fund an agency, then the executive can shrug and say "just following the law". They'd be FOLLOWING the law by declaring everyone at (for example) Education non-essential and shutting off everything the department does.
And as others have noted, if Congress did not provide funding for the court system, the courts would have to close. And right now, they are the only thing standing between us and autocracy."
