The potluck dinner was good. Meats were smoked turkey and sliced roasted chicken. Sides were baked beans, cheesy potatoes made with hash browns, pasta salad (my favorite). I had a generous portion of pasta salad, a small serving of cheesy potatoes and a few pieces of chicken. Mary made two rhubarb baked desserts. I had one that was very good. Rhubarb crisp with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.

The gathering was small and quieter than in previous years when the event included karaoke and went late into the evening. Not everyone attended. Some had other plans or company for the holiday weekend. Things change.

The farmers market had swarms of people. Once again we made some sales but nothing like the last two summers. We're down to putting out all our bowls on display. Next Saturday will be our last of the summer. The following Saturday dh will play in a charity golf tournament.

Minus, While I used to have very long hair I keep it close to shoulder length now. I make sure it’s long enough to put up and wear in a ponytail. There is a Nothing Bundt Cakes just outside the city I grew up in. There used to be a famous discount store called Spag’s across the street from the location. The store is no more but there is a memorial marker. I’ll have to drive the hour and a half to see the memorial and taste a Bundt cake.

Carole, I’m glad you had a busy farmer’s market. I think people are watching their wallets these days. Rhubarb crisp is so good.

I spent the day at a local outdoor art show helping my walking friend with her booth. I saw so many people I know who thought I had disappeared since I can’t attend indoor events any more. My friend sold many cards copied from her watercolors but not much else. She did sign up quite a few people for art and French lessons. I enjoyed the day.

Dinner tonight was chicken in a Dijon, scallion and cherry tomato sauce on rice. I’ll make it again.

Meals yesterday were unplanned. We each ate whatever we wanted. My dinner was a small tomato sandwich and a few pieces of baked chicken. DH had a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. He hadn't eaten one in years and that's what appealed to him.

For tonight I have fresh green beans to cook with new potatoes. We have leftover slow cooker chicken concoction.

I like the idea of eating what appeals to you in an unplanned dinner. Unfortunately, for DH that would likely be fast food. For me it would be a bowl of cereal.

Last nights dinner was planned and was chicken and noodles in the slow cooker. Very tasty and comfort food. The only side was a biscuit (or two.)

Tonight will be baby back ribs, corn on the cob and cole slaw. A farewell to summer meal.

Minus - there is a Nothing Bundt store near me. What do you recommend and how do you get coupons?

Our friends from Phoenix (veterinarian and his wife) are visiting for a few days.

Last night was hamburgers done on the grill, fruit salad, a pasta salad and sweet potato french fries.

I made and "put up" (canned, jarred bottled, take your pick for a name) a hot pepper relish…14 half pint jars. Instead of the Jalapeno peppers, I used the Hatch peppers that are in season.

I don't have enough hair to do much with it. I keep it cut just long enough to avoid it looking like a paint brush sticking straight up.

Saturday, here, was the corn festival and we got there about 2 hours after the start of the market…unfortunately about an hour after they sold out of corn. It was quite busy but not oppressively crowded. We ended up getting corn (also locally grown) from the supermarket.

Minus…the bourbon…... When I was going back east to Dayton, OH, "older test daughter" asked if I would be going through Frankfort, KY and when I said yes, excitedly asked if I'd stop at Buffalo Trace Distillery to pick up that day's offering of "can only get it in person….almost too good to drink" bourbon. I was sort of shaking my head at the thought that she's 50 and not 5 years old. :-) She drove over from Maryland to Dayton to get it. The bourbon was VERY good, but I preferred the coffee from the beans (stored in previously used bourbon barrels) that I picked up there.

I'm going to attempt Salisbury steak tonight. Garden fresh green beans and not sure what else…maybe a side of refried beans or mashed potatoes.

Eric, A corn festival where all the corn has been sold is a bust. Coffee beans stored in used bourbon barrels sound awesome. Right now I'm drinking some 100% Kona coffee that I bought on sale for half price. It was expensive but still cheaper than buying coffee at the gas station and is really good.

I saw a recipe for chicken in a bourbon and peach sauce but haven’t tried it since I don’t have peach preserves.

Nance, Your farewell to summer meal sounds delicious. DH wouldn't bother cooking if I didn't do it.

Dinner tonight was salmon in teriyaki sauce and sautéed summer squash.

Nance - Nothing Bundt … I just signed up when I went the first time some years ago. Had to give them an email address. Maybe you can sign up on line? There's always a free B-day coupon and usually BOGO coupons several times a year. You'll have a hard time choosing. I love lemon but my favorite is white chocolate raspberry.

Eric - thanks for the bourbon review. Buffalo Trace is a Sazerac company that also imports the Tuaca that I LOVE

Wally - hope your salisberry steak turns out. I've been thinking about that for a month now.

Time got away from me today so linner was an Auntie Chuns Yakisoba bowl.

Still eating soft from a tooth extraction so used a frozen prior crockpot meal, mushroom simmered chicken over noodles, for the main dish, a side salad for DH although I did eat some slowly, and home-made cranberry sauce. I had cranberries in the freezer I wanted to use.

I forgot about the Bundt coupons..I need to sign up. I love them.

We had leftover carbs for dinner last night. Cheesy potatoes made with hashbrowns and baked beans. I had a chopped salad with lettuce and tomato.

There was talk yesterday over on Mary's deck of fish tacos tonight, the fish supplied by Sandy, who rents of the two condos.

YUM on bourbon coffee beans. YUM on cheese potatoes. YUM on fish tacos.

I googled Nothing Bundt and didn't know they have a store in Silverdale, where I need to go to restock my wine supply. The pumpkin spice looked good, as does the carrot cake. YIKES on $32 for a cake. I live under a rock.

The Salisbury steak turned out well. Leftovers tonight. DH has his dental and PT this week and we'll talk to our finance guy to see what horror will befall us with 🤡taxes.

Reader, I hope you're not in much pain from the extraction.

Wally - I've never bought a whole cake at Nothing Bundt. I buy the Bundtlettes (think large cupcake size) which are $5.00 here. I have bought a dozen "bundtinis" (think mini cupcakes) to take to special events. Yes, the pumpkin & carrot cake are both good.

Tonight I made the "just like Red Lobster" cheesy biscuits…they are a favorite of our house guests (and Sharon and I). I'm also making some sourdough so it will be ready by tomorrow so they can take some home with them.

Reader…don't eat corn chips for awhile. Don't ask how I know that. :-)

Fortunately the store had corn delivered that morning from one of the places that brought corn to the festival…so all was not lost.

A bit of black pepper on properly ripened tomatoes that are fresh from the plant, can be a complete meal. But..I don't like tomato juice.

Reader, I hope your jaw feels better soon.

    Carole, Fish tacos sound delicious.

Eric, I love the just like Red Lobster cheesy biscuits. Aldi sometimes sells the mix. I’m glad you got your festival corn in a roundabout way.

Dinner tonight was creamy chicken with asparagus and mashed potatoes.

The fish tacos were delicious. They were a treat since we don't fish and eat less fish here than at home.

The weather has turned much colder. It's 47 degrees, according to my laptop.

Yum Eric, I love the biscuits too. Tonight DH wok make cheeseburgers, if he gets home early enough. If not, I’ll make chicken tacos.

Our house guests are on the way home…they have a dentist appointment tomorrow.

Yesterday, in spite of it being 80°, I made vegetable beef soup with a piece of chuck roast languishing in the freezer. It was delicious with leftovers for several lunches.

Tonight is Chicago dogs with a side of Bob's Mac and cheese and leftover coleslaw.

I just got a writing shelf for a 1916 Western Electric 317 wood telephone to replace the missing one on the telephone that belonged to my father-in-law. That's all that is needed to have a complete it.

Mother-in-law has a UTI and we need to pick up the antibiotic prescription that was called in to the pharmacy. We won't be home until 7pm to 7:30pm so dinner is "not sure".

Went to the Farmer's Market yesterday (I live in Colorado.) Bought a Rocky Ford watermelon, some cherries, onions, peaches and tomatoes. I also bought some home-made tortillas and sourdough bread. I did not buy the black plums that were $5.99 a pound nor the corn that were two for $6.00. Everything was high-priced but it is the last of the summer for me. I don't know why things were so high…not a good sign. I really wanted the corn but not at those prices. My DD and DGD went to a school carnival tonight so we ate some stew and sourdough bread…oh, and some watermelon.

Eric, How exciting to get the last piece needed to restore the antique telephone.

Intolight, The watermelon is a delicious way to celebrate the end of summer.

Dinner tonight was enchiladas and refried beans.

LOL, Nance. I had a chunk of beef roast languishing in the freezer and got it out last night to thaw. I plan to cook it in the slow cooker for beef stew or beef soup. We're having the weather for either stew or soup. 42 degrees, according to my laptop.

Intolight, good buys at the farmers market. Our MN corn has been cheap, as low as $5 a dozen.

DH wanted to make a meal last night using the container of home-grown cherry tomatoes. He saw a recipe making pasta sauce of the tomatoes with garlic and olive oil. It was good with linguine and sprinkled with fresh basil and fresh grated parm.

My women's golf league was cancelled today because of the cold. We may go to the casino in Walker. We usually go once during the summer.

Tuna steaks with home grown zucchini and not sure what else.

Carole, The colder weather can definitely change the menu. Right now we’re in the 80’s during the day and the 60’s at night.

My PT came up with a possible diagnosis for my limp right hand (parsonage turner syndrome) and the neurosurgeon I saw concurred. I’m in a months long queue at three hospitals to see if a neurologist will take me on. HSS in NYC will do cutting edge surgery after a year but I need a neurologist and formal diagnosis. After 7 months of this my left handedness is improving but I have the fine motor skills of a toddler. There’s an 89% recovery rate after 1 to 8 years of PT. It’s a good thing I vowed to never complain the day my pulmo called to tell me I would see my next birthday. I bought some left handed kitchen tools and a rocker knife so I can cook albeit messily.

Dinner tonight was chicken and onions in sour cream sauce with mashed potatoes.

Maggie, I didn't realize you were cooking left-handed. DH had problems seeing a neurologist, too, about his jaw pain. I hope an appointment opens for you soon.

Our beef and vegetable soup last night was good. The vegetables were fresh corn, fresh green beans, new potatoes and carrots from the farmers market. We have leftovers.

It is 42 degrees this morning. I don't have to venture out until noon for a hair appointment. I'm not looking forward to our last farmers market of the summer tomorrow. I hope the weather turns out better than the forecast indicates. If Wally were close by, I would send her in my place. LOL.

And she would happily go!!! 😁

Leftover tuna steaks tonight…we may go out for lunch, after DH's PT, so all is up in the air.

Maggie, did they determine the cause of your ailment?? (covid? injury? etc…) Hope you can get it done and get good results.

Tonight is an easy one. Sautéed shrimp (not the radioactive ones), yellow squash and zatarains rice pilaf with a side salad. It is tasty but difficult since I have a hot cheese burn one the roof of my mouth. May have a little ice cream after, you know, for the burn.

  • auntienance
    auntienance Posts: 4,036

Of course Ice cream because it cures all ills lol.

I had non radioactive shrimp tonight too in a carryout shrimp scampi from a local Italian joint. DH had chicken parm. They were both tasty.

We're having "resort" weather here too. It's very pleasant but very dry. We could use some rain.

It's most likely caused by drug induced liver injury from Lovastatin which I had been taking for two years (another rare adverse effect). It seems when the liver isn't working toxins cross the blood brain barrier and destroy neurotransmitters. It took seven months after I developed symptoms to diagnose that so there was plenty of time for damage to be done.

Carole, Hopefully the weather for the last farmer's market isn't too cold. You'll probably get another change to soup weather after you return home.

Wally, I hope your DH’s knee is improving and you had a good lunch.

Illimae and Nance, I’m glad you chose the non radioactive shrimp.

Dinner tonight was meatloaf, sautéed zucchini and mashed potatoes.
