Two dog walks, cleaned the whole house & have just started packing. Since we don't leave until Sunday, I have a little time. (I just polished my nails, so now have to sit around for awhile.)

Packed and walked the dog. Luckily DH doesn't care about clothes, because that means I had 1 1/2 suitcases all to myself. Ha! If all goes well, tomorrow we'll be in Portland.

Karen: Hope you get over your cold quickly.
Ruth: Have a great time on your cruise. Please post pictures.
Had a fabulous time at camp this weekend. Girl Scouts know how to have fun! I was so worried about the weather and luckily it was nothing like what was predicted. It was a nice gentle rain, no wind and completely over by Saturday at noon. The ladies liked my turkey craft. I've been attending this event most years since 2002. Last year I joined the committee that plans the weekend - it takes many women to make it a huge success and I'm glad I joined.

Slike a great time, Wonderland.
Our flights we smooth & on time (yea). We just got back to the hotel after spending a lovely afternoon and evening with my nephew, who was our tour guide. I've never been to Portland before, and it is a lovely city. Here we are at the Rose Gardens.

Good morning wonderful people! I'm back after an extended break. Good to see some "old-timers" still around. I have still been walking but need to up the exercise. Re-joined the gym I quit during covid (didn't want sweaty men breathing heavily on me). Had first workout yesterday. Holy smokes, am I out of shape. Signed up for group training 3x a week. Will come here to post my daily exercise. 💪

Welcome back, Badger!
Here's a picture from Multnomah Falls yesterday. We are about to leave for a walking tour of Astoria, Oregon & this afternoon we go to Cape Disappointment State Park. So I should get lots of walking in.

Badger: So glad you're back! There are only a few of us who continue to post on the thread. It used to be very active but many people quit posting when BCO made changes . Good for you for rejoining your gym. They will whip you back in shape!
Ruth: The falls are beautiful.
We are getting new floors in 3 rooms so my exercise has been emptying drawers and cabinets. Had to do it quickly and I didn't have a chance to go through things. Plan to be selective with what goes back. DS is having a yard sale in a month and I should have items to give towards his sale.
Tomorrow dh is having cataract surgery. Both eyes have cataracts so he'll be going back in a month to have surgery on the other eye.

The dress on you is just stunning Karen…and it looks comfortable, best combination! Have a meaningful fast.
Happy October all.
Only got to the gym 14 times in September…that is a monthly low for this year, ugh. Have upped my walking and stair climbing to compensate.
I think everywhere in the country is affected by the Govt shutdown, but being in Virginia it really hits hard. We have a national park in our town, plus all the Dept of Defense installations in Hampton Roads. DH went to his office this morning to pack up what he will need for the next - who knows how long.
Hope this doesn't affect your trip too much Ruth. That area is beautiful, got to Multnomah Falls in 2009 (believe that is a state park), really beautiful.
Happy mid-week, TT

Looks like I need to re-populate my signature line. I'll have to check my online med record since it's been a long time! (Dx way back in 2009.) Walked yesterday morning and had my first group fitness class this morning. It's great being back at the gym but holy smokes are my quads sore. Uff-da! Ben Gay is my friend today.
FINALLY caved and got a smart phone. Using the free version of MyNetDiary app to track food/calories/nutrition and exercise.
Karen, love the dress. Wonderland - happy belated 70th b-day.

Hope DH's surgery went well, Wonderland.
Yesterday we did an interesting walking tour of Astoria, Oregon; the port city where the Columbia River meets the Pacific Ocean. The rain held off until afternoon when we headed to the Lewis & Clark Interpretive Center at Cape Disappointment State Park in Washington; and then it poured! It's still raining & very foggy today; so our Mount St. Helens experience has been rather disappointing.

Mount St. Helens is somewhere behind the clouds!

It cleared up enough to take a nice walk in the wetlands behind the Mount St Helens Visitors Center.

TT: I'm so upset with the government shutdown. Hope your dh isn't out too long. My friend's dh works for Dept of Agriculture and he has been furloughed.
Badger: Good for you for getting a smart phone. That app sounds good - I'll have to check it out.
Ruth: Glad you were able to at least walk behind Mount St. Helens Visitor Center. I know you have been enjoying the food on your trip.
Dh surgery went great (that is what the surgeon told me). He's had a good day. The living room floor is completed and the kitchen will be completed tomorrow. Then I get to put everything back.
Walked this afternoon.

Looks like you are having a great time Ruth, even with the uneven weather!
Will get to the gym after school today.
Next week Thurs - Sunday is Fall Break at school. Looking forward to a quick visit to Duck, NC where we will have a family reunion with DH's side of family at the beach cottage….a week away and already talking about it. I think that shows I am ready for a break!
Despite the govt being "closed", DH went to his office yesterday and today to deal with the closing, go figure. TT

TT: You so deserve your fall break. I know your dh needs one.
Dh went for a f/u eye appointment and the doctor said everything is perfect. dh can already tell a difference in his sight.
Kitchen floor was to be completed today but they needed one more day. Main reason was to let the glue dry. It's like watching paint dry.
Walked this early evening;

Ruth, you are intrepid!
Wonderland, glad to hear your DH had successful cataract surgery experience. I had my annual eye exam today and will need it, too. My mom had cataracts so there’s a hereditary factor but tamoxifen didn’t help.
The shutdown is government intransigence at its worst. Guess who still gets paid - Congress.
Walked at lunchtime to fetch my car - had an oil change appt - and again after supper (once the dilation eye drops wore off).

Wonder - glad the first eye went well for DH. I had cataract surgery last November. It came out of the blue - I went for my annual eye exam in September and the doctor said she couldn't dialate my eyes as it would cause the pressure to go up too much and referred me to eye surgeon. They did my eyes one week apart. Enjoy the new floors.
Ruth - gorgeous pictures
Badger - welcome back. I also took some time away.
Thanks for all the compliments on the dress. The kids signed a lease for an apt the other day. They take occupancy late October, so 2 months before the wedding. I think my daughter will move into the apt in November. She needs a bed stove and fridge to start with. In unfurnished apt, appliances don't come with the apt so they need everything. He fiance will move in wedding night. I think its 90 days to wedding! The kids are very organized. He has his suit etc and she has her dress. One of his sisters is a graphic designer and working on the invitation.
TT - enjoy your fall break. We don't get one!
The country is one f up mess!

7AM group fitness class today. I don’t mind getting up early but it’s against my nature to eat right away. But, must have a little something before working out for an hour. I’ve been having a toasted English muffin with peanut butter and honey. What do you nosh for pre-workout energy?

Karen, I can't even comment on the country without using profanity! Argh!
Yesterday we spent the morning in 3 different museums in The Dalles, Oregon. It was a big trading hub for Native Americans, Lewis & Clark camped here, and it was a key stop on the Oregon Trail. The first two museums were very well done history museum, and the third one was a quirky museum about neon signs!
We spent the afternoon at Bonneville Dam and fish hatchery; so I could tell you a lot about both! Here's Herman the Sturgeon, Oregon's most famous fish. 10 feet long, 500 pounds & about 85 years old!

The weather has been warm - in the low 80s during the day. Today was really windy and walking after dinner was chilly. Tomorrow the temp will drop into the 60s for a few days them heat up again. I love the cool mornings to walk before work.
DD#1 and granddaughter arrive tomorrow morning for 11 days - they leave in the morning on the 16th. My DH has a special birthday on the 17th, so we will celebrate at dinner on Wednesday night. I will see if my son can come for dinner on the 17th - maybe steak will entice him. He is coming for dinner on the 10th to see his sister and niece. His days off just changed to F, S from T,W (for a couple years).
Baked two things tonight to lessen the cooking load for tomorrow. I can't walk away from the oven or I forget that something is in the oven. The second tray of cookies are a little more done than I like, but not burned and the nut cake is finishing baking. I will clean everything up and pack the cookies and cake - freezer and what stays out. Tomorrow I need to bake more challah and make potato knishes for Monday dinner - DH will grill chicken wings. Tomorrow dinner is chicken egg rolls and fried rice. I have a menu planned out for while DD and GD are here - but it's always subject to change.
I told DD#2 that she was the most organized bride and she said that's what happends when two type A people get married, that her fiance is great with spread sheets and he used one his dad had for his sister's wedding this summer as a starting point. They only have a few more things to check off the to do list. Invitations go out the beginning of November.
Ruth - love the pictures of your trip.

Great pics Ruth, the neon sign museum wow!
Karen, excellent planning and potato knishes yum. Haven’t had those since visit to NYC decades ago. Brought back nice memories.
Lots of walking yesterday. Hit the farmers market and took a trip to our fave family-owned apple orchard. Today is usual Sunday visit to MIL’s house. She’s 93 and wheelchair-bound so can’t use the stove. She grocery shops online and we cook her meals for the week. Made banana bread to share and also apple cider donuts.0 -
We've been busy, busy doing interested things. DH & I took a 3 mile walk this morning and are soon to take a jet boat down Hells Canyon. A long travel day tomorrow. We won't pull in to our driveway until about midnight.
I know you'll enjoy your granddaughter, Karen!!
Badger, I don't usually eat anything before an 8 or 9:00 class. I just drink a lot of water during.
Here's Mount Hood.

You go through many locks when you go down the Columbia & Snake Rivers. Very fascinating!

Yesterday we were in the cowboy town of Pendleton and also visited a cultural center run by the three tribes that have called this area home for many, many generations.

Yesterday, DH & I took a 3 mile walk in the morning, and took a jet boat down Hells Canyon in the afternoon. Fun, very interesting, and breathtaking scenery.
We are now sitting in an airport on the first leg of our return home. If all goes well, we'll pull into our driveway about midnight. Then back to real life....

What a fun trip, Ruth!
One hour group fitness class today.0 -
Slept in this morning as was up late watching Brewers baseball last night. Will walk after supper. I’ll need it! DH picked up a turkey breast & is roasting it along with sweet potato and root veggies (carrots & baby turnips) from the farmers market. Need my greens so will add a salad of spring mix with homegrown tomato.

We made it home late last night & I spent today trying to catch up, get some groceries etc. We did take a long dog walk with Bruno, who was very happy to see us!

What a fun trip and happy you got home safely, Ruth
Went down to Duck, NC to open up the family beach cottage with DH and came home to teach until we are at Fall Break Th/Fri…This is a reliable 2.5 hr drive that took 4.5 hours to get back home, yikes! Two multicar accidents, one with 15-20 cars, the other with 5 cars and a tracter trailer…be safe everyone, you never know.
Got to the gym this evening, really needed to burn off some of the anxiety that builds up for me when I don't get to the gym or do something physical. Hope to get some good long beach walks this long weekend., TT

Scary accidents, TT! Hope the long weekend will be much more calm and relaxing.
The Wednesday Walking Women checked out a pumpkin patch this morning. Some of us tried the corn maze & spent most of the hour trying to find our way out!
