Today was my Book Club's annual field trip to a bigger town 100 miles away from us. As we do every year, we shopped, ate, and spent time at Barnes & Nobles talking books. A very fun day!

Wow, book club road trip, love it! I have already completed our public library's adult summer reading program of 12 books for the summer…which is good as yesterday was the official start of the new school year with teacher training, etc. this week and the students/classes coming Monday of next week, yikes!!! 38th year

Got to the gym on Sunday and Monday, today is lunch with mom and lots of meetings/appointments.

After two blissful weeks of moderate temps and low humidity, we are moving back into SE Virginia summer, ugh. Yesterday was the first day in two weeks that we had a "feels like" temp/heat index. A new friend who moved here from Maine this year thought we were actually turning towards fall temps, we had to disabuse her of that thought!

    Happy mid-August, TT

TT, hope you have a fantastic year! I taught for 38 years too (and then subbed until the pandemic shut everything down). I still miss the excitement of starting a new year!

I went to Dance2fit & Strength this morning & then on a dog walk. It's actually a lovely day since most the the summer has been either stormy or smoky.

Here's a picture of my Book Club. We're all middle or high school teachers. 4 of us are in the original group who came up with the idea. We've read 324 books & eaten 324 fabulous desserts!

    Just a quick note:

    TT: 38 years! Thanks amazing.

    Ruth: Love your Book Club.

m0mmy: Our garden was pretty good this summer. Only have tomatoes still growing.

Dimples: Enjoy your newly renovated kitchen.

Yesterday I had an othopedic appointment for my knees. All the steps at the beach house we rented and steps on the river boat (plus line dancing on the boat) made my arthritic knees hurt. My arthritis is due to older age, heredity, 3 years on Arimidex. The Arimidex really accelerated the beginning of it. Usually they're ok but I needed cortisone shots in them. First time in the knees. Ouch! Yesterday I could hardly walk after the shots. I woke up this morning and they have been fine, thank goodness. Will continue to see improvement and that makes me very happy.

Glad the cortisone is kicking in, Wonderland! DH has horrible knees & was told he neededtotalkneereplacement (he was a runner). A number of years ago, he had a blood clot in his leg & as part of his treatment, they told him to wear compression stocking. To his amazement, his knees started to feel much, much better & he has been wearing them ever since & hasn't been back to the orthopedic people since! The only downside is that he likes to wear the white ones & looks like a dork in any picture where he is wearing shorts!

Congrats on another school year, TT! Wishing you the best! Hard to believe that the summer is coming to a close.

Dessert and books are a great combo, ruthbru.

Wonderland, hope your knee continues to improve.

Mommy, hope you enjoyed those veggies!

We have had three days of temp in the 90’s. Back down to the 70’s with some rain at the end of the week. Not used to that kind of heat here in the PNW.
I have been to the gym for circuits twice this week. Also did a few long dog walks. Going to try a barre class tomorrow which is a new one for me.

Beautiful black eyed susans and of course the WWW.

    Tai Chi yesterday.

Just back from my annual mammogram…BiRads 1. Yeah, I am approaching my 10 "anniversary" (Sept) of the bad mammogram that set this all in motion and while I know that is a success story, it has also been making me a bit superstitious.

    Happy Thursday, TT

I still get nervous, nervous, nervous at mammogram time. At least I don't break into tears when they say it's clear; something I did for years.

You Walking Women look amazing, Ruth! Whew for the all clear,

I also had an all clear CT maybe 3 months ago. This month am 18 years out since initial diagnosis of bone mets.

Still exercising daily, something I started on the first day of chemo in October 2007. Yesterday I did a 2 hour bike ride and walked the dog, who is having a bout of diarrhea in this heat. Poor guy

Hi Heidi, great to see you back!

Got to the gym last night for a fantastic stretch and core class…talk about the return of heat and for us humidity…the sky opened up on the way home and I had to sit in the car for some time before it started letting up, still got soaked even with an umbrella walking the 25 feet into the backdoor.

When you already have a heat index temp at 8am … you know it isn't going to be a nice weather day.

    Happy Friday, TT

I did a lot of walking both yesterday & today.

Heidi: So good to hear from you again!!! Congratulations on your clear CT! A 2 hour bike ride is very impressive.

TT: Congratulations on your Birads 1! Such good news. I hear you about the heat and humidity. NOT fun at all.

Ruth: Always love your WWW pictures.

m0mmy: We had so many cukes that they got ahead of me. Overnight they grew Huge!

Yesterday dh and I visited our granddaughter. She's 9 months old and walking with assistance. She has taken a few steps on her own. Won't be long until she's all over the place. We did take a short stroll with her but it was really hot.

Hi Wonderland! Haha on those monster cukes. I bought some giant organic zukes (zucchini) the other day and they rotted overnight. Waah

TT, yay for birads 1 (now I know that's good news)!

I should have said I had a 2-hour e-bike ride. So not too difficult. Did a lot of walking yesterday, rather rucking (with a heavy pack) as I was doing errands for friends who wanted me to buy 2 snow globes and 3 kilos of candy in Colmar, France. I meet them in Manila in 10 days.

We took a dog walk this morning. It is SO humid (for North Dakota)! I plan to go to HIT tonight.

Heidi: Meeting a friend Manila in 10 days with 3 kilos of candy from France sounds perfect to me!

TT: Hope today went well for you.

Ruth: The heat, humidity, and high dew point make me feel miserable.

I started feeling under the weather on Saturday and I have congestion. Lots of clear congestion. I'm going to confess something: I have an unused steroid pack that I've been holding onto for moments just like today. Started it and already can feel a difference.

I'm about to do something crazy this week. One of my best friends is on vacation at a NC beach with her family this week. Good thing it's not the Outer Banks bc some locations there are under mandatory evacuation due to Hurricane Erin. My friend's brother and her dd are planning a surprise 70th birthday party while they are at the beach. Dd and I are going to drive to the beach on Thursday, spend the night at their rental house, have the party, and leave the next day. 2 other friends from PA are also coming for the party. We've been told we can stay longer but I don't want to intrude on their vacation. Here's the kicker: my friend's birthday is in October! Her brother wanted to get as many relatives and friends together while they were at the beach to help her celebrate. I know my friend well. She likes to be In Charge and I think this is going to tick her off that they pulled one over on her! LOL 😂

Wow Wonderland, what fun just like Ruth said! But she will definitely be surprised to have a B'day party in August with her B'day in October…but good for the surprise!

Yesterday was exhausting…all I got to eat from breakfast to dinner was a KIND bar around 1pm…today will be better with lunch with my mother and then a late gym class before getting home approx 7pm for dinner (heating up some Pad Thai Shrimp I made on Sunday 😀

We are feeling the rain from the storm here in SE Virginia, I'm wearing my ankle boots! TT

I skipped my class this morning to go for a walk with my old neighbor & her dog, who is Bruno's forever girlfriend (they grew up together & played every day). They moved to Arizona 2 years ago but she was back for a month to beat the heat. They head back Thursday (boo hoo), so we'll get together tomorrow too. It was DH's birthday, so no exercise for me tonight either.

TT: Lunch with your mother sounds like just what you needed on a busy day.

Ruth: Happy Birthday to your dh! Glad that Bruno has been able to see his gf again.

Today I started back on my project of going through dh's aunt's photo albums. She had a lot of pictures! I threw away photos that were too blurry, duplicates, unflattering, etc. Love looking at all the history through family pictures. Still a huge work in progress. I will eventually digitize them and then make a photo book.

Dd and I will wait to decide if we will go to the beach on Thursday. Warnings of flooding definitely worry me. Maybe we can leave on Friday when the weather is predicted to be much better. No need to drive into harm's way. My friend will definitely understand.

I came down with a case of food poisoning over the weekend (compounded by the fact that I had been on antibiotics for 10 days for my sinus). I very foolishly ignored it & continued my normal schedule. I started the BRAT diet yesterday (bananas, rice, applesauce & toast). So my stomach feels good but the rest of me feels pretty beat up. I've canceled my classes & will lie low, maybe for the rest of the week. Blah!

TT, I have a book you might like. My Book Club of present & former teachers read it last month, and will all reallt liked it. 'The Faculty Lounge' by Jennifer Mathieu. I don't know if non-educators would like it, but if you've ever taught you will recognize the characters, bureaucracy. It's laugh-out-loud funny, poignant, and a little racy (although not as racy as your 'One Golden Summer'. I think you might enjoy, and even be a little inspired by it.

Oh, I skip over those racy parts…really don't know why these 30-40 y.o . women writers feel they need to include such detail! ugh.

I ordered The Faculty Lounge from my public library, I am the number 2 hold…looking forward to it.

My exercise today, besides teaching - my fitbit is so happy I am back in the classroom, was pushing my mother's wheelchair over long distance and up and down bumpy surfaces. Her AL (assisted living) building had its annual total evacuation fire drill. I took it as an opportunity to go the nearby park area with gazebo and a small pond with ducks. Lots of fun vs waiting outside a building with a blaring fire alarm, but it was like a weight workout over the uneven surfaces.

    Happy Friday, TT

Ruth: Goodness, I hope you start to feel better soon!

TT: That was a great idea to take your mom to the park. You not only got time with her but also got plenty of exercise.

DD and I went to the beach yesterday to surprise my friend for her 70th birthday (that's not until October). Her brother planned it and he likes to really surprise people when they least expect it. Hurricane Erin had come and gone, no flooding, no problem driving there. My friend was speechless to say the less. Her first response was "the house is a mess." It definitely was not a mess. And then just like a woman she said, "Where are they going to sleep?" All of that had been planned out in advance. She was so worried about taking care of us.

Her ds and dil prepared a feast of low country boil: shrimp, lobster, crab legs, sausage, onions, red potatoes, and corn on the cob. It was delicious. This morning we sat on the deck and played Mahjong. Then we ate lunch and left. All in least than 24 hours. I'm tired! Like Ruth, I think I'm getting a sinus infection and will go to urgent care tomorrow. My head is swimy, especially after being in a car for so long.

Went to the Sunday night strength and core class…wow, my legs were shaking…I thought I might fall during the last sequence, but didn't. Yeah!…until walking home and tripping on an uneven brick on our patio when I did catch my foot and splat! Our picket fence kept me up from the ground, but uck.

Have a good week everyone, TT

Oh no, TT!, isn't that how it goes?! One of my friends is an avid pickleball player, and she just sprained her ankle by answering the door ( was in a hurry & missed a step}.

We are in a stretch of beautiful, almost fall-like, weather. It is just delightful to spend time outside; so I volunteered to have my walking group over for breakfast after we walk on Wednesday. (I am running out of time, the days are already getting shorter.) So…..after taking a dog walk, I ran around buying groceries etc, getting organized, cleaning the house (I plan to have it picnic style in the backyard, but need my main floor to look decent in case someone needs to come in & use the bathroom! Between all that, I watered plants, dead-headed flowers, picked weeds, & tried to get my yard in shape. I don't imagine anyone else will care what I serve or what things look like, but I do.
