Decided on double mastectomy, having mri with contrast today, then meet again with breast & plastic surgeons on 2/19 to schedule procedure. Anxious, scared, feeling like I'm forgetting something…..just crazy

    Hi @georgy ,

This part can feel like such a whirlwind — and honestly, kind of surreal. One minute you’re making huge decisions, the next you’re scheduling MRIs and surgery consults. Of course you’re anxious and scared. And that “I must be forgetting something…” loop? So many of us have been there.

You’re not crazy at all. You’re just processing something really big.

We’re really glad you posted. If you want to talk through what’s on your mind before the 19th, we’re here for you. 💛

    Hi @georgy

Sorry you have had to join us in this not so exclusive 'club', but very glad you have found us.

Getting a dx is really a gut punch isn't it? Wham! Your world just turns upside down.

Take a deep breath. You WILL get through this. Take things one step at a time. It sounds like you are well on your way and hopefully you can solidify your plan on the 19th. Once that plan is in place, it often calms you a bit as you can then go on and see the path through this as you check each box along the way.

    We are here for you.

    Take care.

Thank you for commenting; just knowing someone is reading these is comforting.

  • Hi @georgy. I hope your appointments go really well tomorrow! Everything you are feeling is normal, not crazy.

I sometimes still think ‘did I really go through all that’? The initial appointments were such a blur! I never even asked my plastic surgeon to show me examples of his work. I also forgot to ask what the recovery would be like and how long would I have restrictions. The diagnosis truly blindsided me and I was on autopilot during those appointments. I’m grateful my surgeons were so kind and guided me to decisions that looked beyond the initial panic of needing to just get rid of the cancer.

    Hi All,

My MRI w/contrast of course confirm my tumor (just a little larger 2.5c). A lymph node within the breast, the radiologist suggested more testing and also noted that my tumor butts up right up to my chest wall. My surgeon noted that the lymph node is mute as I am having a bilateral mastectomy, she will however take some of my chest muscle while in to ensure she's gotten good margins. My surgery date, March 16th! I love having a plan….

    Hi @georgy

So happy to hear that it sounds like your appointment with your surgeon went well. Having more information is always helpful. Good to hear the plan is in place.

Sending good thoughts your way. ☺️

    H All,

Had surgery on Monday. All went well. the tumor did not invade the chest wall so no muscle was taken. They took 6 lymph nodes and said path would take about 10 days. However, just received a call from the surgeon, path came in 5 of the 6 are clean, one has some cells and is being sent out for further path testing to see if radiation or chemo are in my journey. Not what I was hoping for.

    Hi @georgy

Congratulations on getting through further steps of your journey. Getting through surgery is huge. Very sorry things didn't go quite as you had hoped. There are just so many pieces to this b.c. puzzle and it is hard to make them all fall into place as we would like. Once again you must take a deep breath. If you need rads or chemo, you will get through it. One step at a time.

Take care of yourself. We are here for you.

Thank you Mandy, nice to hear back. Forgot to mention, the pathology also showed that it's more aggressive than previously thought, ugh………
