Good Morning, Loungettes! Happy Monday Monkey Day! My Mother's Day weekend turned out a bit disappointing. I took Mom to a Paint & Sip where we made Hello Summer signs. I paid extra for a charcuterie board, and one glass of wine came with the event. Unfortunately, one had to walk up a steep, loose gravel path to another building to get the wine and snacks. Mom clearly can't do that, and I knew I couldn't manage coming down that steep a hill with a tray and 2 glasses of wine, so Mom and I didn't get that part. Which really disappointed me as I was really looking forward to a glass of one of my most favorite wines which is made there. The other not-so-fun part of the deal was using a PortaPotty. Do you know how hard it is for 2 adults to get inside one of those? And to actually adjust clothing? And how many higher than usual steps can be involved? It's a seriously complicated undertaking. So, anyway, we make our signs and head to a nearby restaurant for lunch. It's a favorite of Mom's and mine. Gret seafood, decent prices, good portions. I didn't think about it being Mother's Day weekend and the place would be packed, and thus, noisy. It didn't help that we were seated near the kitchen and so could hear a lot of dishes and pots banging and clanging. But Mom loved the fantail shrimp and devoured the whole plate full. We did remember to stop and get some bird seed for her feeder on the way home. I went back yesterday to visit some more, and to set up the Jubilee TV console. If anyone has a loved one who is having trouble managing the remote, this is the thing to look into. The console sits on top of the TV, cable or whatever TV source being used and the TV are wired through the console (once I found the step by step instructions it was super easy), connect to internet, and we are now set up so I can use the app on my phone to turn the TV on and Off, change channels, change the volume, etc. We can also make video calls. The system uses motion detection to sense when someone comes in or leaves the room or is moving around. There's a "drop In" feature where I can see and hear what is going on in front of the TV so I can check on Mom that way, now, too. The remote has a lot fewer buttons than your typical remote, which helps. Not to mention that turning the TV and cable box on is now a one button tab and not a series of steps. Yesterday's visit was much nicer than Saturday's.

    mOmmy--Happy Birthday to Nugget!

Teka--it's just getting dry enough around here to start spring yard work. It's still getting very chilly feeling when it rains.

Miriandra--winter is trying to hard to hang on, and just will not let go! The nests in the tree trunk are fascinating! I hope nobody's under that tree when that chunk comes down. Ouch!

    Carole--thanks! I hope you had a great Mother's day.

Jazzy--happy belated Mother's Day to you, too!

NM- sounds like a challenging day for you and your mom. We found with our mom, who had major mobility issues after a broken hip and several hip surgeries along with her dementia that a ride in the car and stop somewhere for take out food was what we had to do to get her an outing. Older folks who can't get out much just love a good ride in the car (we also used to do it with grandfather too). Just sharing this for an idea if you have any spots for take-out seafood where you can sit in the car and maybe enjoy something good to eat and who knows, maybe look at the beautiful ocean. I think you are near Arcadia which to me is one of the most beautiful places in the country (spent a lot of time in Maine in the past, it's one of my favorite places).

Oh and the bathroom thing is a huge deal and can't even imagine what you went through. A take out joint with a bathroom you can check out before you order and eat would be another idea. It's all hard but is negotiable with a bit of planning…

NM - my Dad wanted to go back to visit Hawaii after my Mom died. Talk about bathrooms. Getting a 90+ year old male and myself squeezed into the bathroom on a plane was a nightmare. But he couldn't wipe himself. Sorry if that's TMI. Sounds like you at least had a good lunch.

NM glad you did get out with your mom albeit with difficulty. I really like the idea of that TV setup. Ingenious.

We have friends coming to visit at the end of the week. I'm sure there will be a few interesting drinks to report, as well as meals.

Good Morning, Loungettes! Happy Hump Day! Mom and I had a much nicer visit on Sunday. I got the Jubililee TV console set up, and got to use it early this ayem when she called me upset and crying because she hasn't been able to get in touch with me for days and she thought something happened to me--we go through this a lot. It was helpful to be able to turn on her TV and change the channel to the one she like this time of day. I'm hoping this will blow over like all the others have, with Mom not remembering any of it by lunch time.

Jazzy--it was a bit of a challenge and eye-opening. I hadn't realized that I was only taking Mom to places with level walking and handicapped accessible bathrooms--like dr's offices, restaurants--and generally avoiding steps or stairs. I'm even starting to wonder if it's time to get a transport wheelchair to use when we are out and about. Something to think about, anyway. And yes, we are right in Acadia National Park, or practically. The facility borders on Park property. Mom and I both have a life time pass to the park and use it pretty regularly, Thompson Island Picnic area is one of our favorites and we go past it to get to most places. And the bathroom there is wheelchair accessible, so I know Mom and I can manage it! Clearly, I do need to think ahead more before taking Mom out now.

Minus--Mom keeps saying she wants to go visit my brother in North Carolina again, or her brother's step-daughter in Texas, or go on vacation for a couple of weeks in a camper. I cannot imagine being able to wrangle her through an airplane trip again! I hate that she wants to do these things but just can't

Reader--the Jubilee TV console is pretty neat. Just being able to turn the TV on and off and change channels and volume from my phone is amazingly useful, now that I've figured out how the app talks to the console and vice versa. Now if there were just a way to remotely get her phone plugged in to charge every night. Half the time the battery is dead and the phone useless. Can't wait to hear the drink reports!

Welp, I just realized today is NOT Wednesday, it's Tuesday. I'm beginning to be afraid that dementia is catching. . . .

I had a Cosmo at a nearby restaurant last night. We went there with our neighbors, who pick us up when we go for a meal together. They're younger than us, in their sixties, and we always enjoy getting together with them. This was a "goodbye" meal, since we leave on Monday to head north to MN for the summer.

NM - on the same HI trip with my 90+ year old Dad, he refused to let me order a wheelchair with the airlines. Then when he saw those with wheelchairs breezing ahead in the LONG security lines and had a hard time standing, he decided he wanted one. Obviously a little too late. But we got one on the Norwegian cruise and on the airplane trip home.
