No words, Wally. Just deep sadness for your loss.

Dinner last night wasn't good. The pork country ribs cooked in the slow cooker with barbecue sauce were tasteless except for the sauce. So was the Knorr packet rice side dish. I tossed the leftovers.

Fortunately, the Irish whiskey cream liqueur was good for sipping while we watched tv after dinner.

Tonight will be a "safe" pasta meal with Raos.

Maggie, I love johnnycakes. Grew up in Rhode Island.

MIL had the surgery today to "lock" all the bone pieces in place and it went well.

Carole, It’s a letdown when dinner doesn’t work out well. I’m glad the Irish cream was good.

m0mmy, The profile photo I just put in after the old ones disappeared is of the lobster boats at long wharf in Newport.

Eric, Happy to hear that the surgery went well.

Dinner tonight was chicken and asparagus with mashed potatoes.

Eric, wonderful news about MIL. Hope her recovery is as painless as possible.

My mother made Johnny cakes but called them "hoe cakes."

Dinner was good last night. Rao's with bulk Italian sausage and romaine salad with additions. Shredded romano cheese.

Forgot to say to Wally that I'm keeping her in my thoughts.

We met farmers market friends Judy and Ron at West Forty for dinner. DH had a hamburger steak dinner. I had a walleye basket and brought home half the walleye pieces. Judy and Ron seldom eat out because of thrift, I think. West Forty is one of their choices. It's a diner but spacious and a pleasant place to eat. We enjoyed the company and the food was ample and ok. Everyone had water except me. I had a glass of chardonnay.

    Tonight will be leftovers.

Carole, How nice to have a meal out with your farmers market friends.

Dinner tonight was Angus strip steak, corn from the Carolinas and potato salad. The winter weather this spring has really reduced the availability of local produce so far.

Maggie, we won't have local produce grown outdoors until August. Probably late August, thanks to cool weather in June.

We enjoyed leftover meatballs and brown gravy and potatoes with a romaine salad for dinner last night.

    A different leftover tonight, pasta.

    Farmers market today.

Last night was cheeseburgers from a local restaurant which were very good. I don’t often eat hamburgers so they were enjoyable. DH on the other hand would eat hamburgers every day if left to his own devices.

Tonight is a mystery but may end up being rigatoni with sausage.

BIL ordered and picked up Duck (thai). Neighbor across the street just brought over a bunch of organic stuff from the farmer's market and co-op. So sweet. Dentist left a small bouquet of flowers.

No idea what I'm making/eating tonight….BIL leaves early tomorrow. Thankful he was with me at the funeral home.

Wally, I’m glad your BIL stayed. You’re creative so you’ll put together a meal from your nice neighbors’ produce with the dentist’s flowers on the table.

Nance, My DH could live on hamburgers, too. It’s fortunate your cheeseburger was tasty.

Carole, I hope you had a successful farmers market today.

Dinner tonight was a shrimp stir fry in soba noodles.

I love hamburgers and cheeseburgers. Hot dogs, too. Sandwiches. Pizza. Not eaten often, they're all a treat.

We had another leftovers meal last night and have leftovers of leftovers. LOL. I warmed up the linguine in Raos with Italian sausage, grated some romano, and made a lettuce salad with additions. Yum. Now it's time to cook something from scratch.

Maggie, as mentioned previously, I admire the variety of your menus. Do you plan a week in advance?

Wally, I'm glad BIL was there with you for a few days. I wonder if there's someone you would consider visiting in a different part of the country, for a change of scene.

We had a good farmers market yesterday with a customer who bought three beautiful bowls with little decision time. She looked and said, "I'll take these three," and paid with cash.

It's a rainy Sunday with a forecast for a rainy Monday.

Carole, I don’t plan meals in advance. I buy meat/fish that DH can eat based on what is in the store, the price and the expiration date ( I have just the fridge freezer so not much room,) My pantry is the size of a washer/dryer closet so it’s big and well stocked. I sometimes google the ingredients I want to use to find a recipe that looks good. If we love the meal I save the recipe. For years we ate pretty much nothing but free chicken and eggs (a perk of DH’s job as a poultry geneticist) so I looked for all kinds of recipes using those ingredients. Originally it involved searching cookbooks and magazines. Sometimes I’d use a recipe for pork or beef but substitute chicken. Most of what I cook can be made in a skillet in less than 45 minutes since initially I had no oven. Later, teaching and coaching swimming left very little time for cooking. I’m glad you had a good farmers market yesterday.

German soccer fans have replaced the Scots in Boston. I haven’t seen any from Paraguay yet.

Dinner tonight was takeout from Whole Foods: fried boneless chicken breast, Jamaican jerk green beans, corn in coconut milk and macaroni and cheese. It was a bit spicier than what I would have made but was still quite good. All the restaurants were mobbed so it was a convenient option.

Last night's oven fried chicken was cooked in the microwave/convection oven, a modification of a recipe in the Sharp user book. The experiment was a success. The cooking time is less than an oven, thanks to microwave component. Our side was small boiled potatoes.

Heat comes to MN this week. We'll be forced to close up and turn on the a/c in the afternoons. Plus, deal with possible severe weather. Welcome to climate change.

I ate the last of the mac/cheese leftovers. last night. Had a lot of wine and tossed and turned most of the night. Rinse, repeat.

Bracing for the heat here in NW WI too. Today was rainy and cool but waiting to see what the rest of the week will be like.

    Tonight is beef stir-fry

The heat is also making it’s way to the northeast. It’s a good thing the World Cup match is being played today while it is just in the 80’s.

    Hugs, Wally.

Lunch from the hospital cafe was their reliably good turkey dinner with mushroom stuffing and green beans almondine; we were too full for dinner. I didn’t have to cook on our anniversary.

Happy anniversary Maggie! Your turkey sounds delicious. DH has been talking about a pturkey dinner so my next trip to the store may have to include a turkey breast or at least some cutlets.

The heat has already made it here. The last two days have been in the upper 90s with high humidity. The a/c hasn’t stopped running.

Tonight was meatloaf, mashed potatoes and gravy and green beans.

Wally I know these are difficult days for you. Sending you some hugs.

    Happy Anniversary Maggie. :-)

MIL is out of the hospital and in a skilled nursing facility. So far her PT has been gentle stuff and next week it starts in earnest. She likes the physical therapist but does not like the nursing facility (food, she says, is bad). Hopefully this will be some encouragement to do the PT to get back to her regular assisted living place that MIL says has great food.

We were scrambling around getting stuff for MIL ("street clothes", phone, iPad, chargers and such) so we ended up eating a sort of late lunch/early dinner at Subway (sandwich shop).

We are dog sitting, so we have three dogs. Frankie, almost 16 years old, Daisy, around 3, and the "guest", Lucy, around 4. Daisy and Lucy are currently playing with each other (running up and down the hallway while carrying dog toys) while Frankie is "supervising". Lucy will be going home July 3 and I have a feeling she will miss the place. For a dog, country living is far superior to city living. :-)

Last night's dinner was Reuben brats, which got a thumbs down. I experimented with cooking them in the microwave/convection oven oven on a broil setting. Not a success. The sides were good. Corn off the cob sautéed with sliced leeks. Fresh beets, sliced and flavored with vinegar.

We had a storm yesterday that brought down some dead trees. One landed on a camper. The wind was alarming. The extreme heat in the forecast will inevitably bring on more storms.

Carole, we got those storms over my way too.

Tonight is thick cut pork chops.

I made a sockeye salmon with leftover sides (cabbage and peas). No idea about today. Appreciate the kind thoughts and understanding how wretched these days have been. I feel like someone ripped out my heart and amputated me.

Eric, good to hear MIL is doing well. Maggie, happy anniversary.

    Wally…that feeling is understandable.

..not for dinner…breakfast instead. Sharon cooked a couple of small pieces of salmon for this morning. My contribution was the toasted sourdough bread.

The wind here is "wow" but less "wow" than yesterday and Saturday. Red flag fire warnings are still in effect, so no outside activities that could start a fire. The Pocket Fire, in between Sedona and Flagstaff (Arizona) is about 120 miles distant so it is no issue here. However, there are lots of people near the fire that have been told to be ready to leave on a moment's notice.
