Good Morning, Loungettes! Today is going to be one lazy day for me and the puppers, especially Colt. Yesterday ayem I let the puppers out for morning potty, put water on for coffee, stepped out on the deck to check the weather, saw Colt with a mouth full of porcupine, shaking his head as hard as he could , quills flying everywhere! That makes the count here now Colt= 0, Zoe = 0, Porcupines = 4. Spent the day at the Emergency Vet. Those poor folks were getting slammed and only had one Vet on duty because the second scheduled Vet and the back-up Vet were both out sick. It took an hour and 15 minutes to get all the quills out of Colt's face, mouth, tongue, right ear, and chest. The big gulp was handing over the credit card to prepay the $2688 estimate. The high point, 7 hours later was the $704 refund for overpayment when the bill wasn't as big as expected. Poor Colt is wiped out and just moving back and forth between the rocking chair and the bid lounging chair alternating nap spaces.
mOmmy--wow, what a roller coaster between getting laid off and looking for work and getting called back while all the chaos was going on. Your Stepdad seeing that raid must have made an impression. I remember how everything went quiet when a new update was came on the TV or radio. It was eerie.
Miriandra--it must have been difficult to be oversesas during the 9/11 thing. Coming home to that much of a security increase would have had me terrified, that's for sure. Did they tell you anything at all while you were going through security? The change in the neighborhood just outside the base is really interesting. Something good really can come out of just about every bad event.
Teka--thanks for the Saturday wishes! I wish it had carried over to Sunday as well. . .
Jazzy--Now there are a couple of women who know how to live!
mOmmy-- I've been the same way with fabric as well as yarn and crochet cotton!
Why was the cat banned from the yarn shop?

" Did they tell you anything at all while you were going through security?"
No, they just waved us through. I think they were too focused on checking everything and didn't want to spend time with explanations.
We had a few interesting experiences in our housing complex. It was completely walled off, with only two entrances - one that admitted cars and people, and one that was only allowed walk-ins. There was also a little shopette on our side of the wall near the walk-in gate to cater to the Americans. Since military property is considered territory of the affiliated country, our shopette had American goods available at American prices without the tariffs and import fees that a Korean shop would be able to offer. Including alcohol, which had very steep import fees.
A little popup coffee shop opened up not far from the walk-in gate against the wall on the Korean side. It had weird hours, and was rarely open. Everyone just assumed it was someone trying to start a business and failing miserably. Turned out, it was a front for a smuggling operation. One (or a few, they never released all the details) of the shopette employees was "buying" bottles of alcohol from the shopette and moving them to the "coffee shop" through a tunnel under the wall! Then they sold the smuggled bottles for enormous markups, converted the won to dollars, and repeated the process. I don't know if they started to get greedy and were caught in an audit, or if someone finally took a hard look at the weird little coffee shop and found the tunnel, but they were finally discovered and arrested.

Poor Colt. What an unfortunate experience for both of you. My mouth dropped open at the mention of the cost.
We have been enjoying Old Fashioneds the last few nights since the weather turned cold at night. Night before last, the low temperature was 39 degrees.

Good Morning, Loungettes! Happy Hump Day! Waking up to another chilly morning. I love this time of year, cool enough at night for really good sleeping, still warm enough in the afternoons to sit out on the deck. Tomorrow I'm picking up one of Mom's friends, then pinking Mom up and we are all going to have lunch at the lobster shack another of Mom's friends owns and runs. Probably the last lobster shack lunch of this summer. It's supposed to be rainy tomorrow. I'm hoping it will at least be fairly warm. There's a screened in eating area there, so as long as it's warm enough for Mom to be comfortable we'll be good!
Miriandra--if there was a line of cars waiting to get in I can see why they wouldn't want to spend time on explanations. The shopette sounds like a really nice thing to have had. Love the smuggling story! Goes to show that people don't always think things through. I would seem obvious that a coffee shop without regular hours would be something people (and eventually authorities) would notice
Carole--Poor Colt, indeed. As of yesterday ayem Colt is back to his usual self and is taking advantage of the situation. The left side of his face is still slightly swollen, every so often he comes up to me and pointed presents the left side of his face and gives me his "time for a treat" woof. That estimate made me gulp a little bit, too, when I saw it. I'm glad they estimate high and refund the difference immediately. Makes for scary looking entries on the credit card transaction list, though.

Contemplating whether to drag out my winter curtains yet or to wait until early October to change them. Going to start pulling warmer light weight pjs soon too.

The lobster shack lunch sounds sooo nice. And glad Colt is recovering well. Our weather is similar to yours, NM. It will be a weather shock to go south to Louisiana in a couple of weeks, where we will get sweaty moving back into the house.

Good Morning, Loungettes! Happy TGIF day! The lobstah shack excursion yesterday went well in the end, but the beginning was a bit rough. I stopped at Mom's friend Barbara's home to pick her up as planned. She is 83 and beginning to have more mobility challenges, and took a tumble as she was getting ready to leave. She didn't get badly hurt, just a scratch and a sore knee, thank goodness. It took some doing to get her back on her feet, but we managed. Afterwards she was a bit shaken up and didn't want to leave home, so plans shifted slightly, I went and got Mom, then Mom and I went to the Lobstah shack and ordered very yummy food and Mom got to visit with the friend that owns the place. We took the food back to Barbara's and had a very good lunch then they had a nice long visit, with lots of reminiscing about people and events I knew nothing about. It was really nice to see Mom light up like she did.
mOmmy--I hear you about thinking about starting to bring out some of the warmer clothes. I've already put the heavier duvet on the bed and put up the summer blanket.
Carole--the lobster was a hit, and Colt seems back to normal with the exception of the odd quill working it's way out and trying to poke me as I pet him. Those things hurt! It sounds like you are heading for quite the weather change to adjust to!

I put the afghan i made as my first big crochet project on the bed. Dragged out some Fall weight shirts and pjs so far. The house was a bit on the chilly side the last few days up until yesterday when we had temps in the low 70s and had to use the fan last night but this morning chilly again and so I have locked the windows for the colder weather. Going to put the fans away in a bit. Had a panic attack briefly when I started dragging out the winter curtains and could not find a few panels. I found them packed away in one of my crates with some winter clothes when I went to pull out some warmer shirts. Have all my curtains out and will get to them later today if not tomorrow, if this blasted cold I woke up with doesn't do me in first.

Good Morning, Loungettes! Happy Saturday! It must have gotten chilly last night, both puppers woke me up burrowing under the duvet, and incidentally pulling it off me! A sure sign summer is passing.
mOmmy--Don't you hate that feeling when something isn't where you just know you put it?
Jazzy--interesting finding. I hope it does develop into something really useful.
Teka--yes, it would be a blessing.

Hi folks!
Quick note before I head into my work week. After a so hot summer that lasted until about a week or so ago, we are getting rain (and lots of it) now. We normally get a couple inches of rain here in the high desert during summer monsoon season, but got that in one short week last week. And more to come, we may see up to 7 inches more this week. Our river (Rio Grande) that dried up at the start of the summer is now flowing again! Temps are now in a good range for us after it being hot for months too. Whew, all or nothing world with this weather business. Finally starting to feel like fall which in fact starts tomorrow!Be back soon and wishing everyone a good week!

Leaves are turning to gold and red here in northern MN. Amazing how fast the transition to fall color.

Hello drinkin’ friends! Well it took me forever to figure out how to log into this dwinking lounge, it’s been years. My name is Dara and I’m a (joyfully) dwunken allkohalick!!
I am peaking inside the door in this hopping bar cuz I’m skeered to come in.
I just wanted to announce that Icurrently have 50 years drunk. Congratulations to meeeee, weeeeeee!!Cheers❣️

NM if no one has said it lately you are a very good daughter. I'm certain your mom and friends (!) Enjoy the outings.

Hi Dara - long time no see. How are things 😁

Good Morning, Loungettes! Happy Twofer Tuesday! Well, Mom's got a new story to entertain people with and she's getting lots of mileage out of it with her friends about finding a man sleeping in her bed. Yup. Better yet, its actually true. There are a couple of wanderers who will lie down on any bed when they get tired. (This is not an unusual phenomenon in memory care units.) I'm still not clear if Mom was in bed at the time or not, that part of the story isn't clear, but it's funny as heck to hear and watch her talk about it!
Jazzy--that tart looks very yummy! That is some wild weather changes you are getting! I hope all the rain isn't causing flooding problems.
Morning Teka!
Morning, Miranda!Carole--I noticed the same thing here this week. One day no color, next day very noticeable color on the birches. Can't wait for the maples to really turn.
Dara!! So good to see you again! How ya doin' ya old drunken sot???
Reader--thank you.

Was cold enough here early this morning for the heat to have come on.

Dara - good to see you
mOmmy - well, still 98 in Houston. Lucky to get night temps below high 80's
NM - love the story about Mom finding a guy sleeping in her bed…..

Finally getting rid of the cold I got last week. Had a frost advisory again over night here. Heat came on again this morning.
2 -
Good Morning, Loungettes! Had our first local frost warning for last night. I don't see any frost this ayem, but it is chilly enough for a sweater and to stat a search for the winter slippers. Woke up with both puppers under the duvet this ayem.
mOmmy--brrr. Here in Maine we have started the see-who-can-go-the-longest-before-turning-the-heat-on season. Die-hards don't consider turning the heat on until November, or first snow that sticks, usually in late October or November. I usually cave in mid October.
Minus--Mom's getting quite the mileage about the guy sleeping in her bed! At least she thinks it's funny.
Teka--I've never heard this Old Weather Saying! Glad to hear of the negative test results. Hope you had a great dinner! That wrap looks yummy. Where did you get it?

I don't believe it! Went to storage yesterday and brought the Halloween decorations up. The skeleton piece I was missing I just found in a crate. I must have packed it the last time we used them in Conecticut! So now I have two full skeletons to hang!

My MIL has a milkweed patch in her garden. All summer long, she didn't have caterpillars, but she finally got some late in the season. She found six shiny, green chrysalises on her porch just as the temperatures were starting to fall. She was worried that the butterflies wouldn't emerge before they froze. Fortunately, the first one broke out yesterday, and she hopes the remainder will fly off before the week is done.

Got the second skeleton all ready to hang. Its going to look really wild with two whole skeletons hung on the front bush!

Good Morning, Loungettes! Happy Monday Monkey Day! I've been listening to reports of the nor'easter all weekend. The only sign I saw over the weekend was some larger than average surf and a couple of sprinkles. This morning it is actually raining, not hard, but steady, almost no wind. Either that storm is totally stalled far enough out to sea that we're not going to get much effect here, or it will decide to start moving east again, and how much we get of it will depend on how far north it decides to trend. Frankly, we could use a few days of steady gentle rain like this to offset the drought conditions in parts of the state.
Took Mom out for lunch on Saturday at a great little lobstah pound near Seawall. Then we went surf watching for a while. I had forgotten how good the air can smell when the breeze is coming off the ocean!
mOmmy--hooray for finding the missing skeleton piece! I bet you've got quite a display up with 2 whole skeles!
Miriandra--I hope your Moms butterflies hatch out before it gets too cold. Must be a lot of fun to watch them.

It will be! Was going to start decorating yesterday but decided to hold off until today!

We have switched to bourbon old fashions for our evening cocktail, garnished with a couple of plump cherries and fresh orange slice.
This will be our final week in MN for 2026, if all goes according to plan. We'll probably travel on Sunday when the traffic in the Twin Cities is lighter. Our route takes us through Minneapolis/St. Paul. We usually stop at the same motels. Our favorite ones are Drury with the kickback buffet and free cocktails.
Minus, has your weather improved the last couple of days? The New Orleans area has enjoyed lower humidity and more pleasant weather.
