Re: Can we have a forum for "older" people with bc?
intolight, loved the crocheted animals and what a wonderful gift to give to one's grandchildren.
I am a huge fan of the Olympics and last night's opening ceremony was spectacular in scope and breadth. The presenting cast was varied including some of my favorites and the theme is harmony. So thankful I will have this to watch until February 22 and not have to watch any news. I was surprised that Mariah Carey as the opening singer and what an honor for her.
Andrea Bocelli singing "Nessun Dorma" by Puccini brought back a memory of visiting Lucca, Puccini's birthplace, where our lovely tour guide sang it outside his home. She had a spectacular voice and it was the first time I'd heard a female sing it. I just love him, but the honor of best male voice for this still belongs to Pavarotti.
The above quote was spoken there by Charlize Theron, a fellow South African, and is in synch with the Olympic theme.
Chris, what a great save of the microwave cart and being handy. Glad you were able to customize the shelves to give yourself more room in your kitchen.
Taco, envy your weather and if I could ship you some of the ice from my yard, it would help with your drought. It may be March before we thaw at this rate. A large warehouse in Berks county was just purchased for $87 million for the same purpose and the people there are not happy either. Concern is about property values and humane treatment.
cindyny, our winds are to be between 50-60 mph today which means we will hear loud whistling for much of the day. Not looking forward to them. Temps will be below zero before we discuss the wind chill factor. So in the 60's sounds good to me. Loved what you did to your jeans.
petite1, loved the doilies. I hope you have them on display.
While cleaning out drawers in my DD's old room, I uncovered a counted cross stitch which depicts a Mickey and Minnie Mouse wedding theme. I can't believe I paid as much as I did for it and obviously I have had it for years. I never got around to doing it and I should do it for their anniversary (they have been married for 10 years) which is in September. I haven't done counted cross stitch in a while and I have this lovely wooden frame on feet where I can work on it while seated on the couch. I should dig it out and start working on it now that I will b ehouse bound for awhile.
I once did a very intricate one for my BFF which took me over 300 hours to complete. It had an involved border, a center that was personalized to her and her DH, and I can remember working on it as we drove to Fl to visit Disney with our children. I couldn't use the frame then so I had to rely on just a medium hoop for each section. It had to be carefully plotted given the border demands. I have one of the Irish blessing in my bedroom that I had done for my uncle as a gift which was returned to me when he died. I used to do pillows, wall plaques, plastic mesh plant containers, etc in counted cross stitch.
Asked DH to check oil tank gauge the other day and he kept putting it off, citing we had received a delivery before the storm. I finally insisted he do it after dinner on Thursday and it read 10%, so he made a quick call to the oil company and they delivered yesterday before this cold weather front moved in. When we first moved here our oil schedule was not regular and there were a few times in bad weather when we ran out of oil so they did emergency deliveries of 5 gallon cans on foot. I don't want that experience again, especially when our steep driveway has ice or snow on it. They used to walk up my neighbor's driveway and then have to cut across the lawn to our driveway. What a haul and climb.
Working on a genealogy challenge with my cousin. She has a family member that sort of pulled a disappearing act, but then may have emerged under a different name. Trying to parse this out is the challenge since the new name was a name of an old friend.
Hope everyone has a great day and waving "hi" to everyone.

Re: 💗 February 2026 Surgery Roll Call—Let’s Do This Together 💗
Good luck on your surgeries! In my experience (lumpectomy with two lymph nodes also removed), I was glad to get this part done, and remove the offending cancer out of my body. Hope your surgeries go smoothly and you have easy recoveries. Let others help you and let your body do its healing. Focus on getting thru this part and taking care of your body and mind.
I think my prep for surgery was straightforward, they give you instructions about eating, drinking, and when to stop prior to surgery. The anesthesiologist gave me a scopolamine patch to help with post surgery nausea, and it worked really well for me. I used ice packs which were helpful for the soreness post surgery but I found the pain to be pretty manageable with the Tylenol they recommended.
You got this! 💗
Re: Birads 5 with calcification
Hello Lisa, we are all on this pathway together, and we're here to support each other. My cancer had originally been missed also, and here I am 12 years later.
Please know that calcifications could possibly be benign or early Stage 0 (Zero). Frankly most calcifications are benign and not associated with breast cancer, although certain patterns may indicate a risk for breast cancer, requiring further evaluation.... which is what you are undergoing. You've done nothing wrong, my dear.
Have you been given a date for further imaging or a biopsy?
Fatigue, back pain, burping and constipation could reasonably be caused by any one of various conditions. Please go easy on yourself until your medical team has had the opportunity to complete your workup.
On your past breast reduction surgery, please read details below.
BREAST CANCER AFTER REDUCTION MAMMOPLASTY: A POPULATION-BASED ANALYSIS OF INCIDENCE, TREATMENT AND SCREENING PATTERNS
2023
"Conclusions: Despite an increased frequency of breast cancer SCREENING, the incidence of BREAST CANCER IS LOWER AFTER REDUCTION MAMMOPLASTY compared with women who did not undergo breast reduction."
https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC10513359/
"The idea behind breast reductions reducing breast cancer risk is two-fold...
• Less breast tissue means there’s less tissue that could become cancerous.
• Less dense tissue means screening tools like ultrasounds and mammograms will be more effective so you can detect any cancerous lesions in the early stages."
Best Wishes to you and please let us know how you're doing.
Re: So...whats for dinner?
Dinner last night was mushroom stroganoff with egg noodles and a side of sauteed fresh spinach. A good combo.
On the federal tax return, I ended up buying a Turbo Tax download because of one tax complication. We neglected to make a required withdrawal from dh's IRA funds, so have to file a form requesting waiver of the tax penalty. Last year I used a free tax software recommended by the IRS. I used Turbo Tax in previous years, so my email address was attached to that former account. I couldn't remember the old password and went through an ordeal establishing my identity. I ended up taking a photo of the front and back of my driver's license and doing face ID before eventually creating a new password. It's good that Turbo Tax is so protective of old tax information, but I did get exasperated.
Surprisingly, Louisiana has user-friendly income tax filing software online, so I use it. Therefore, I'm in for numerous refusals of Turbo Tax's insistence on filing my state return.
When I made turkey meatloaf some years ago, the recipe called for a lot of ground up mushrooms. I would think vegetarian meatloaf would have mushrooms, plus other vegetables like onion and maybe beans and carrots.
Dinner will probably be eggplant dish similar to lasagna.
Re: So...whats for dinner?
Minus, I saw a recipe that added nutritional yeast and some grated parmesan to egg salad with dill. I don't know how it would taste but it would add more protein to what you can currently eat. That flu really knocks you about.
Wally, More hugs for you. I've dealt with palliative care for me and hospice for my mom. While both are something everyone wants to avoid they helped with navigating difficult circumstances. I hope that’s the case for you and your DH.
Rhonda, My sister makes a good vegan meatloaf using mushrooms, chickpeas and other things. It has a hoisin sauce and ketchup glaze. I’ll have to ask her for more details.
Carole, I’m disappointed they discontinued the IRS Direct File this year due to lobbying by tax prep firms. When we permanently moved back to the US DH had mixed US/English income, mine was Scottish, and all the tax years began and ended on different dates. An accountant wanted a ridiculous sum to do our taxes so I just told myself I was earning that money for my research work.
Special, It’s great that your DS had a relaxing anniversary trip and that he can do his UVB treatments at home on his schedule. I sympathize with your DD.; vet bills are worse than doctor bills. It’s good that she wasn’t injured. All that genetic testing will help you and your family know what to watch out for. I’ve never had any done but have so many surveillance scans now that I figure they’ll find anything wrong before it gets too bad.
Dinner tonight was moussaka made with ground lamb. There were more pans than usual to wash but it was worth it.
