Re: I say YES. YOU say NO....Numero Tre! Enjoy!
This simply moves me:
In a New York Times op-ed today, former secretary of state Clinton praised Biden for his “decision to end his campaign,” which she called “as pure an act of patriotism as I have seen in my lifetime.”
Some excerpts from HCR’s Tuesday newsletter:
Harris held her first campaign rally Tuesday, speaking to supporters In Milwaukee:
While Trump is relying on “billionaires and big corporations,” she said, “we are running a people-powered campaign” and “will be a people-first presidency.” The Democrats, she said, “believe in a future where every person has the opportunity not just to get by but to get ahead; a future where no child has to grow up in poverty; where every worker has the freedom to join a union; where every person has affordable health care, affordable childcare, and paid family leave. We believe in a future where every senior can retire with dignity.”
“[A]ll of this is to say,” she continued, “Building up the middle class will be a defining goal of my presidency. Because…when our middle class is strong, America is strong.”
She said Trump wants to take the country backward. She warned that he and his Project 2025 will “weaken the middle class,” cutting Social Security and Medicare and giving “tax breaks to billionaires and big corporations,” while “working families foot the bill.” “They intend to end the Affordable Care Act,” she said, “and take us back…to a time when insurance companies had the power to deny people with preexisting conditions…. Remember what that was like? Children with asthma, women who survived breast cancer, grandparents with diabetes. America has tried these failed economic policies before, but we are not going back. We’re not going back.”
“[O]urs is a fight for the future,” she said “And it is a fight for freedom…. Generations of Americans before us led the fight for freedom. And now…the baton is in our hands.”
Re: Starting Chemo May and June 2024 Support Thread
@amesisland715 @justsnapd8 +1 to giving yourself grace. Fatigue is telling your body something important for sure. Having said that, I think I have managed to avoid major fatigue and GI issues with a crazy strict diet that I can ONLY stick to because I know it's only temporary. I am not a person who can sit still either, I'm always active, running , hiking, or walking the dog. I've slowed it down a LOT since starting chemo but am still managing my step count and a couple of runs a week.
My diet was recommended by a pal who went through a very aggressive chemo regime a few years back (red devil) and at the time she did a lot of research into the foods that work with and against chemo drugs. It's kindof based on the FODMAP diet (someone mentioned that already here?) but with a few tweaks for oestro boosting and limiting foods. My writing is so messy sorry. I don't have it on the list but I'm 100% dairy free anyway by personal choice. It's worked well so far for me, even if it's just a placebo it's a feeling of control over my health.
I'm also drinking immune boosting juices for week 1 and 2 after my treatment which I order from a local cold press place. It's expensive and I definitely can't keep it up forever but it feels manageable for this four month period. And lots of kombucha and lemon water.
Re: I say YES. YOU say NO....Numero Tre! Enjoy!
I think you are right Divine. I never thought of the 'youngsters' Pres. Biden picked, but even not paying attention to age I thought he picked some of the best well rounded people for the positions he asked them to take.
Like you, I do want Pres. Biden to have that fantastic legacy along with the long years of service he devoted to us and to democracy. So much heartbreak and yet he never let go of us. So much faithful service for others always.
Re: Financial planning after diagnosis at 40
I wouldn't assume no retirement, although there are no guarantees in life, some savings would be prudent and if invested can give you a useful cushion later. If you can discuss your situation with a financial advisor, they might be able to suggest how to come up with a savings plan that is balanced.
Everyone's circumstances are different. I'm in Canada where I've been with the same employer 25 years, decent benefits and a pension, and now stage IV. So I won't get to enjoy much of that pension… so much for planning for retirement. At least my medical benefits are there now that I need them. So I'd suggest looking into medical insurance plans, and disability insurance if you can find coverage, that might be worthwhile.
Re: Can we have a forum for "older" people with bc?
I think I mixed up Scarlet and Artist. Apologies!
I think I’m about 40-45, until I look in a mirror. This is my first year on Medicare. Always knew it was coming but it was YEARS out, if you know what I mean. Then no years out & it’s here.
It’s like with the passing of Bob Newhart, I had no idea he’d gotten so old. HAHA I loved Bob Newhart’s humor. I don’t think I’m old until someone passes and reminds me that the years just keep rolling along.
Good night ladies!
Re: how about drinking?
Good morning! We had some rain last night but no weather drama. We went to see a wound specialist in town yesterday to help us with bandaging dh's legs. No matter how hard we tried, he would bleed through bandaging, thanks to the new med Eliquist. The wound specialist's nurse tended to dh's legs and gave us a big bag of supplies. We have our instructions and dh has an appointment to return in a week.
I have an appointment today for a hair trim.
Happy Tuesday!
Re: Zometa side effects
My Zometa infusion went fine. So far I don’t feel bad. A slight headache is all
