Good Morning, Loungettes! Happy Twofer Tuesday! Just when I thought the humidity was going to fade away, out comes today's extreme heat advisory for the afternoon, due to combined high temps and high humidity. I know visitors from the south tells us we don't really get humidity here, but 96% humidity seems pretty humid to me. At least the dew point is down to 69 degrees this ayem, that's an improvement. The puppers aren't moving around much, lots of laying about and snoozing. Not that I'm doing very much more than that!

Mommy--glad you get a free choice of paint colors. And Hooray for the step forward in the healing process!

Minus--WOW, 7 days without power???? How did that happen? Glad to hear you are ok now. I generally teach a CPR class once a month or so, mostly recertification classes for the hospice staff, but I also do individual classes. I don't really advertise, word-of-mouth gets me enough business to stay happy.

    Power Outage Martini

When the power’s out, you don’t have ice, but, luckily for the good folks in New York and New Jersey, you’ve got snow. Just plunge that cocktail shaker in a snowdrift for a few minutes and you’ve got a frosty libation ready to suck down before the next storm hits.

8 ounces gin or vodka (we prefer Catoctin Creek’s Watershed Gin or Boyd & Blair Vodka)

    1/2 cup sauerkraut

    Vermouth

Put the sauerkraut into a jar with the gin or vodka and let it sit for a few hours while you clean up tree branches or write nasty letters to the utility company. Then strain off 3 ounces of the liquor into a cocktail shaker. Chill it in the snow — or shake with ice, if you’re so lucky. Pour a few drops of vermouth into a chilled martini glass and swirl around to coat the inside of the glass, then pour in the gin or vodka and add a spoonful of the infused sauerkraut.

Minus 2 - glad to hear the power is back. It's frightfully hot here in the southwest and can't imagine no AC for so long 🙏

Good morning. My news has already been reported on the oldies thread and the what's for dinner thread. DH and I spent about 5 hours yesterday in the ER in the hospital in Park Rapids. We went there because he was concerned about shortness of breath and a general sense of not feeling good. Long story short, a lung scan revealed a small blood clot that could well be the cause of his symptoms. He's taking a med that should dissolve the clot and will be following up with a doctor visit.

We both had our evening martini when we got home.

    Happy Wednesday to all.

Got some black cohosh to help with these blasted hot flashes and night sweats. I am also taking magnesium.

Carole, glad your DH was treated promptly and, it seems, well. I think his golfing and your martini happy hour was perfect for a day like this. Unnerving.

Mommy I'm sorry you are experiencing these surgery after affects. Uncomfortable!

Looking forward to a cocktail with dinner tomorrow prior to attending a local play. Drinks lately have been lots of iced tea with this heat. Now we are getting lots of rain, which we need, which is lowering the temperature but not yet the humidity.

    Hope everyone is doing well.

I can't believe we've been in Israel for one week. The time has gone by so fast. We were busy volunteering every, day though each day was only a few hours, except yesterday was an excursion. Two of the events were BBQs with the soldiers and another cooking for the soldiers. Not allowed on the bases so its off base. We've also seen some friends and of course Shabbat with our daughter. Next week we have 2 days planned to volunteer and we will go to the beach in Tel Aviv at least one day. Most of these volunteer events only get posted one week in advance. Only 3 weeks left. I hope the time doesn't go by so quickly.

My CPAP is leaking so I can't use it. It started leaking the day after we arrived. We can't figure out where it is leaking, so it's packed up. I have an appointment with my pcp the day after I get home. They supposed to send me something for the mask to help with the seal. DH and I thought it was the hose. If this doesn't solve the problem, I'll call the company (al ready talked to them here twice) and make an appointment to figure it out. Actually, I really hope there is something else I can use to help with my sleep apnea.

At sea level, I've been able to walk faster than I do at home - back to my normal pace prior to chemo last year. Let's see what happens when I get home.

I apologize for not addressing anyone, but I didn't read the posts well enought.

    Have a great week-end.

GoodMorning, Loungettes!  Happy Saturday! Is pent the biggest part of the day in the ER with Mom yesterday. She has A-fib and it acted up on her, but fortunately was easily controlled with  medication. She called me because she was short of breath and feeling funny and afraid she was having a stroke after hitting her head on a cupboard door (again). She didn't think it was the a-fib because it didn't feel like the other episodes. Anyway, she is fine now and we are going to visit a local lavender farm today. The weather has finally cooperated and made this possible and not dangerous due to heat and humidity.

    GoodMorning, Jazzy!

Carole--wow,must have been a bit of a nervous time in the ER. Glad to hear it's a fixableproblem and doesn't sound too serious.

Mommy--hopingthe black cohosh and magnesium help a lot with the hot flashes!

Reader--Ihaven't been to a play since before covid. I hope you enjoyed yours!

Karen--itsounds like you are enjoying your trip, that is so nice to read about! I hopethe time doesn't go to terribly fast for you. Sorry about the CPAP problem, that must be annoying. Enjoy being at sea level!

    Morning,Sunshine!

    GoodMorning, Minus!

Jazzy--Ididn't even know it was happening until it was all over! But it sounds like itmessed up things for a lot of people, especially travelers.

    LavenderEmpress 1908 Cocktail

    Ingredients

    • 2 oz. Empress 1908 gin
    • 1/2 to 1 oz. lavender simple syrup
    • 1/2 to 1 oz. lemon juice
    • a little of tonic or sparkling water, optional – to top, if desired
    • 2 lemon slices, for garnish
    • 1/2 cup of ice

    Directions

    • In the shaker, combine the gin, syrup, lemon juice, and ice and shake vigorously for about 30 seconds. Try and adjust the flavour by adding more gin, syrup, or lemon juice if desired. Filter if desired or serve with the ice. If serving on the rocks, you don’t need to add tonic / sparkling water. If serving without ice, you might want to top with a little bit tonic / water, if it’s too strong. Serve with lemon slices. Enjoy!

We had a good farmers market today. This afternoon we had a reception celebrating a 92 year old friend who passed last fall. It was a lovely occasion. Carl and Dorothy's lake home has a wonderful view of Long Lake. The ten grandchildren scattered Carl's ashes from the dock. There was a catered meal afterwards.

Good Morning, Loungettes!  Happy Sunday Funday! The trip to the Lavender Farm was very nice. I did not realize there were so many types and colors of lavender plants! Mom and I got some LavenderLemonade, Luscious Lavender popcorn, and lavender shortbread for a snack to eatwhile we were there. There was also a butterfly garden, an English Garden, anda Fountain Garden to visit, all were beautiful. Lots of goodies in the giftshot, Mom and I both took home some Lavender Simple Syrup and BlueberryLavender Jam. We stopped for lunch at a nearby country/farm store for pizza.Mom was really funny going on and on about how "floppy" the pizza wasand how hard it was to eat! It was thin crust pizza, the kind you have to foldin half to keep from being floppy, she thinks she's never had that kind before.I think she just doesn't remember. Also, she didn't have her bottom denturesin, and trying to eat pizza with a knife and fork is never easy, but that'swhat she did! It was good pizza, though, I'll get pizza there again. This wasthe first time I made Mom take her rolling walker with her on an excursion, andI'm glad I did. She would not have been able to negotiate the uneven ground, which, for being outside was actually pretty even, without it. We had a goodtime. I wish I had taken some pictures, but I never thought of doing that. I'lltry to remember next outing to get some pictures.

Minus--thank you. I 'm glad mom hasn't needed ablation. She's been cardioverted at least once, years and years ago. She's been fortunate to be able to manage the a-fib with medication.

Carole--it sounds like the scattering and celebration of your friend's life was a nice occasion. I've seen some of those celebrations of life that were very movingbut very comforting rather than sad, and I think that is a better way to acknowledge the end of a life.

Good Sunday ayem to all the Loungettes!

Good Morning, Loungettes!  Happy Twofer Tuesday! Waking up to a mild thunder storm this ayem. Not seeing the lightening, hearing some distant thunder, a good bit of steady rain going on. The storm must not be too close, Zoe is barely reacting to it. Colt is snoozing, as usual.

Not much else going on around here except for some internet fussing about a double-fatality car crash yesterday morning. The car and 2 people in it led police on a chase a couple of days ago, and again yesterday ayem, both chases discontinued when speeds got too high. This time the car was found wrapped around a tree (literally) with one dead when police arrived and the other dying at the scene before being able to be transported. At least one had an open arrest warrant. The internet is all abuzz about the police being at fault for chasing them. Just a few weeks ago the same internet denizens were abuzz about a car being chased that hit another car at a high rate of speed after the chase was stopped, saying the police should have continued the chase. Talk about being in a 'can't win' situation!

Good Morning to everyone, hope everyone has a great day!

Good morning! We had some rain last night but no weather drama. We went to see a wound specialist in town yesterday to help us with bandaging dh's legs. No matter how hard we tried, he would bleed through bandaging, thanks to the new med Eliquist. The wound specialist's nurse tended to dh's legs and gave us a big bag of supplies. We have our instructions and dh has an appointment to return in a week.

I have an appointment today for a hair trim.

    Happy Tuesday!

Oh Jazzy - I so want to make a trek back to NM & see the mountains. I only lived there seven years, but since my son was born there - it's still home. But I am also so longing to make a trip to the Pacific Ocean. Sigh. Likely neither this calendar year.

Drinking this week will be confined to a glass of wine or two at a small Bachelorette party over the weekend I think.

Today was hair trim and manicure/pedicure day for me. I had stopped doing the mani-pedis when we moved to give my nails a rest. Now I'm back to wanting to do it periodically. Otherwise I just puttered around at home.

    Hope everyone is doing well

Carole, I hope your DH continues to improve. It sounds like you got good care and help.

Good Morning, Loungettes! Happy Thirsty Thursday! More rain here today, and if I wasn't sure I had arthritis in my right knee before, I truly do now. Talk about achy, stiff, and sore in that knee. Usually that all gets better as the day goes on, not yesterday or the day before! Oh well, things could be a whole lot worse.

The puppers say goodmorning to everyone!

Carole--Glad to hear DH is seeing a wound care specialist. There are lots of products out there to help with managing drainage and bleeding. Enjoy your hair trim!

    Morning, Jazzy!

    Morning, Minus!

NM - I was thinking I could make that drink - until I came up against YUZU Juice. Obviously had to research. Obviously don't have that - or the Meyer Lemon/Grapefruit mix that is suggested as a possible substitute. Another new thing to put on my list.

Rain, rain, rain…. At least no high winds so I'll be quiet.

We've been in Israel for two weeks and the time is going by so quickly. This week we helped with a BBQ for soldiers on Sunday, packed vegetables and worked on a Microgreens farm (very interesting). Spent time shopping and we went to the beach in Tel Aviv Thankfully no jellyfish so far this summer. A couple years ago, the jellyfish were horrible. Our daughter is here for Shabbat and on Sunday we are helping her pack as she is moving to a different apartment month. We have just over two weeks left and the time will go by way too quickly.

When I get home it's back to work for the 24-25 sy.

Today while shopping with my daughter we ran into someone from Denver who is a few years younger than her working at a camp and earlier my husband and I ran into our former Rabbi and his wife who moved back to NJ. We also run into people we know or meet people who have Denver connections.

The weather is hot, but at least Jerusalem cools off at night. Tel Aviv is naturally very humid as it is on the Mediterranean.

We are doing a lot of walking - and I walk through the pain in my foot. It doesn't always hurt but when it does, it hurts! I decided that I'm going to do the foot surgery sometime after I get back. Just have to figure out the timing as I want to take 3 weeks off work. Podiatrist says only need a couple days, but I have the time so why not give myself plenty of time to heal, Seems like everything takes longer these days.

Sorry for not addressing anyone but I hope everyone is doing well.

Karen, good to get an update. Hope you continue to enjoy your time in Israel.

I had a top shelf margarita at a Mexican restaurant last night. It was VERY good. So were the fish tacos.

Karen, I wish I could find time to revisit where we lived when I was a young child (Haifa/kiryat haim). Glad you are feeling well and helpful.

Carole, YUM on your fish tacos. I have bad memories of margaritas…may try one some day again (that was when I was 19 and I haven't ordered one since).

DH is having his full body PMSA-pet scan August 5th. Probably ordered due to concern for mets spread since the calcium issue earlier this summer.

We have had beautiful weather…60s. Not bad for July and summer. I miss Goldi and reading her laughing at me for loving cold, frigid weather. (Thinking of you, Goldi.)
