Re: Hypersensitive skin/nerves after mastectomy
Thank you! Seeing the plastic surgeon tomorrow, oncologist Friday, & I’ll ask them. I resorted to wearing an old padded bra because the molded cups didn’t touch the scars, but the underwire was seriously uncomfortable.
Re: Can we have a forum for "older" people with bc?
Betrayal - have a fantastic time but don't try to do more than is comfortable. I only had a partial knee replacement so recovery is much faster. They had me on the weight machines on Tuesday.
I'm spending way too much time watching tennis added to my usual activities and PT.
Hope everyone is having a good week.
Re: Can we have a forum for "older" people with bc?
Betrayal, you’re on your way by now, enjoy!
Harley, chemo can wait a week. I’m glad you’re out and about taking advantage of the break.
Jackie, sounds like your weather is good. We’ve had cool nights and warm days, which I love. But I did buy the pool closing kit knowing it’s changing into fall weather sooner than I’d like.
Petite, from BC dx we all know the “hurry up and wait” game. It’s always the worst! As Jackie said, we’re in your pocket.
Carole, I heard it was a 14 year old who was the shooter.
Wren, I can’t remember where you live! Low 80’s are great, with low humidity and sunshine even better.
The town showed up timely, and replaced the part on our water meter. It took all of 15 minutes max. The tech said he thought the office was having issues with setting up appointments - how I never got put on the calendar. It’s done, all good
We went out to the deck to read and it was so nice, we both got our bathing suits on and got in the pool. Even with cold nights (49 I think) the pool with solar cover was 82.
We had to hustle out of the pool to meet friends for dinner. Otherwise I think we’d have stayed in much longer.
Tomorrow’s weather is supposed to be a repeat of today - cool morning with warming sunshine. I hope you all have a good day tomorrow!
Re: Can we have a forum for "older" people with bc?
Betrayal, I hope you will end up having a wonderful trip although I do understand lack of sleep on a plane. I'm always amazed by anyone who can easily doze off into seemingly peaceful sleep while being a passenger in anything. My Dh is one of those. Here's to your catching it all back up asap.
Carole, it is likely nice to be done with the outdoor market routine of the summer. All can be stowed while you pursue a few pleasures of a different kind.
I'm with Betrayal on the puppy mills that the Amish have. My friend Jo got one of their Yorkies from the Amish. The lady brought the puppy by horseback out to a designated area and while (I still think of the dog as Kimmey which was the Amish name given her) Leia is a neat little dog and seems fine. On the other hand my SIL's son got his large dog from an Amish guy and although he has kept the dog, it is a strange dog who is not very fond of men. No one has figured why, but he was sort of a really BIG puppy so we think he may have been a left-over puppy who just didn't get treated too well or something. He is not a friendly sociable dog, although he is not mean or inclined to bite or anything — just would prefer you not even look at him. and more so if you are hoping to interact. He is not interested or in any way desirous. Really a shame because he is a very pretty dog. White, and I think possibly a cross but I don't know what. I'm really upset with the family. They have their dog, one of the puppies he sired, and as well two kittens who should have been neutered and are now having kittens. No one in the house is neutered and I am highly upset over it.
Petite, I am staying in our pocket and hoping for only an infection along with decent CT results. I know it is hard for the waiting. I will say, even with a portal to get results quickly if you are not sure you 'get' what it in the report for sure, you might still have to wait.
We are having a pretty day here — about 82 degrees. We are not having temps too high nor too much humidity either. We have had a few scorchers for the summer, but overall, I can't complain. Also as mentioned, the cicada invasion this late Spring seems to have eliminated a whole lot of our bug population that usually annoy us most of the summer and haven't. I can't tell you when the last time was that I got a mosquito bike although the other day I did get those two extraordinarily small ticks off me. If I had not had to have them 'pulled' off me, I'd have never even realized they were actually ticks at that size. SIL said he took two off his bottom leg yesterday as well. Apparently, some did survive and are just now hatching or something. We have no idea where they are really originating although likely somewhere in our yard. I'm thinking deer ticks because the dog ticks are usually somewhat larger when they 'find' us.
I hope everyone has a really fine day.
((((Puffin)))). If anyone is checking your blogs.
Re: So...whats for dinner?
DH is going down to the Keys with his brother, nephew and a friend for some days of fishing and hanging out. I decided to make a banana bread with pecans and mini chocolate chips for him to take - I had some antique bananas and all the other ingredients, so it is in the oven baking now. He is leaving at O dark thirty to drive down to Ft. Myers to catch the ferry with the friend, bro and son are driving and towing the boat. Dinner tonight will be sliced and pan cooked turkey kielbasa with some veggies, likely over brown rice. My meals will be interesting while he is gone, since it is just me. I may minus-style some stuff also!
minus - nothing wrong with some Stove Top. I sometimes cook the thin pork chops (they often are labeled breakfast chops in the store, I guess because they cook fast?) by "breading" them on both sides in cornstarch and then marinating in a soy/sesame oil/green onion for just an hour. Seems weird to cornstarch them and then put them in liquid, but the cornstarch adheres and makes a kind of sauce with the marinade - pan cook them over relatively high heat. Quick and easy - but the marinade could also be the sauce you mentioned in a post above.
carole - your friend sounds like my MIL after my FIL died - she could not proceed and nothing gave her joy. Her BFF was the opposite - engaged in activities and with others, and lived her life in a new way. She would have rather had her spouse, but she adapted very well. It is such a hard thing and I guess it is difficult to know how we all will react.
auntie - glad things are progressing, and I will be curious about how things go with your back. Mine is still causing trouble, but on fewer days. I tried a prescription strength lidocaine patch yesterday along with Advil Dual Action (Tylenol and Advil together in one pill) and got a lot of relief. The Dual Action on its own only dulls, so this was progress. I can't attribute why some days are more painful than others, which is frustrating.
Re: So...whats for dinner?
I'm envious of the walleye!!
I caught my first salmon 2 nights ago. It was gorgeous…but it was wild (we are only allowed to keep hatchery fish), so back to the ocean he went.
Tuna melts last night.
Maybe hot dogs and beans tonight.
Re: So...whats for dinner?
Minus, Bon Appetit magazine tested prepared stuffing mixes and Stove Top Herb won. My go-to, Pepperidge Farm Herb, came second. I do add celery and onions to improve the taste.
Reader, I used to look forward to eating minus-style (now we have a name for it!) when DH and the kids were away. DH can no longer travel or stay home on his own due to balance issues so I always end up cooking, at least for him.
Special, I'm glad that lidocaine patch helped your back. I plan to try your pork chop recipe with thin chicken breast cutlets.
Wally, Congrats on catching the salmon even though you couldn't keep it. In Ireland I used to fish in the River Boyne (as it's called there) hoping to catch the mythological Salmon of Knowledge but all I ever caught were brown trout. My in-laws' farm bordered the river so we were spoiled; we only went fishing when the trout were rising.
Dinner tonight was grilled tomato/basil chicken breast and corn on the cob.
Re: Can we have a forum for "older" people with bc?
Petite - keeping you in my thoughts !
Betrayal - have a fabulous vacation. Like you, I cannot sleep on overnight flights, so I can relate to the exhaustion you will feel for the next few days.
Waiting on results of today’s bloodwork to see if I can have the final chemo tomorrow. ETA: chemo likely won’t happen tomorrow. Platelets are only at 64 and ANC is still at 0.8.
Went to a farm to enjoy their sunflower fields last week. Saw DH’s family over the weekend and enjoyed a few nice walks/hikes over the past few days with the cooler weather.
A shoutout to everyone else!
Re: Grade 3 long term survivors
I had my 10-year Cancerversary in June. Heck, my MO isn't even monitoring me anymore, though I get my annual mammogram.
