Carole, I use an Aldi brand jarred Alfredo sauce which is good and much cheaper than Rao's. The difference in the tomato sauce makes the price of Rao's worth it. Their pizza sauce is about the same price as the store brand but much better. The Irish put whiskey in the bread pudding itself and serve it with custard. My hands are not up to the amount of stirring that requires.

Wally, I cook rice pudding like you do. I'm glad you don't have to worry about the power going out.

Nance, I still like cream of rice cereal for breakfast even though my family thinks it is strange.

Tonight was chicken fried steak and mashed potatoes with cream gravy and squash, it was really good. Tomorrow will be soft tacos, unless chemo taste buds say otherwise.

Our new dishwasher will be delivered on Friday. I have no idea what they will find although it looks like the flooring goes back at least a bit. Rice pudding is not a regular on our menu but you all have intrigued me to cook it. It will have to be a day I have energy. We're going out tonight to celebrate my DDs new job (ER Nurse) and her new certificate. Don't know where yet…

I'm glad we installed a new dishwasher before we moved in here. At least we know what's under it.

I love rice pudding. I never make it. I don't know why except that Dh doesn't share my love of rice. When I was a child my great grandmother would make me rice porridge for breakfast. It was sweet and comforting and I loved it. I haven't had that since.

Tonight is a roasted Cornish hen with boxed stuffing and sautéed spinach.

I remember eating rice pudding while on a Colorado River raft trip in the Grand Canyon. We had been married four years before we got around to our "honeymoon". :-)

Tonight's dinner will likely be the chicken-Jasmine rice dish (leftovers). It actually tastes better as leftovers than when first made.

Dishwasher inspired renovation…sigh….

I never had rice pudding till I met DH. Even then, it took me years to try it. I use a Bain-Marie method in the oven. Frankly, they can have the rice, I love the custard. Reminds me of Creme Brulee without the brulee, LOL.

I'm making nachos tonight and will include some ground beef this time. I'm thawing lamb chops for tomorrow.

It has been raining here for several days. The winds have finally quieted, for now.

I 'm not sure I have ever eaten rice pudding despite all the rice that was cooked in my mother's kitchen. It must not have been a favorite with my parents. Bread pudding was very common. The New Orleans version has whiskey sauce.

I used a Rouse's supermarket store brand alfredo sauce last night with the Costco ravioli. The sauce costs about half the price of Raos and it is quite good, more lemony. The jar is smaller, which is good, since I use only enough to sauce the ravioli.

Tonight will be chicken and sausage gumbo.

We got a real downpour early this morning along with lightning and thunder.

I was raised in Northern California. My Mother had two dishes that were often waiting for us when we walked home from school in the rainy winters (in our yellow rain slickers & rain boots). No one drove their kids to school in those days. And there was certainly not a bus for a destination under a couple of miles. One of the treats was rice pudding (with raisins of course) (and of course heavy cream). She made it in a double boiler and I'm guessing it simmered on the stove most of the afternoon. The other was ham-hock & beans - which I know she cooked over low heat for many hours. The third treat was popcorn in front of a roaring fireplace accompanied by quarter slices of cold apples.

As an aside - my Dad didn't care for either rice pudding or ham-hock & beans. Since he traveled frequently for work for several days to a week at a time, we were able to enjoy these things frequently.

When Dad was home - it was meat & potatoes - I expect like most men of his generation who could afford meat. Both of my parents were born before WWI.

I made rice pudding (heavy cream vs milk) for dessert with our leftovers. I ate more than I should have. DH needs to gain weight. I hope I'm not going to follow him.

Carole, we googled our problem and it is waaay more common than one would imagine. I'm dismayed, but not much to do about it.
