Designermom, They are going to do blood count today, and you are right maybe the counts will be good. If so I will just keep the neulasta in the fridge in case I need it. Thanks again Patty.

Hello... guess who sat for three hours and was sent home again? Oh..good guess!!! The stat blood work that wasn't so stat came back badly hemolized. I had a different draw from a different vein and we shall see in the morning. On a good note the count is normal, but still will have to take neulasta due to the white count taking so long to come back. The onc does not want to treat with high levels of ast and alt. So we are hoping this test is a fluke and I cN have treatment tomorrow. Thanks Patty. P S... what type of claritin shoils I buy and when and how often should I Take it. My dr. Never heard of claritin for tjis use but said she will allow me to try it.

Patty - Just buy non-drowsy Claritin 10 mg. Take one a day. My onc had not heard that Claritin helps with bone pain from neulasta, but said to let him know. The hint came from one of these topics. Good luck!

Thanks golfergrandma, hopefully I will be able to get my treatment tomorrow.

Patty- I'm so sorry for your stress. Where are you being treated that they can't do stat bloodwork? By the way, stat is short for statim, the Latin word for immediately. Three hours doesn't sound like immediately to me! I sure hope the second draw doesn't turn out to be hemolyzed. Did you ask the doctor why these samples are hemolyzed? Wishing you good luck. Let us know how it goes tomorrow.

Designermom, I go to MSKCC in Westchester, however there was a back up of some sort in the lab. The Dr. Wasn' t too happy. The Dr. Was on the the phone with the lab a few times. Other than something not being spun right, it could be the way the blood flows out of my veins. I try to understand the best I can. The Dr. Is very concernd and does not want to treat with hig liver tests. I will wait for her call in the morning. And hope all is well. Can it be poor veins???? Take care, thanks for the good wishes. Patty

patty- Glad you got your treatment, that must mean your blood counts were good enough. Did they tell you about your counts? Your liver tests? Hopefully this last time the blood wasn't hemolyzed! Remember to drink, drink, drink your fluids to flush the chemo out of your kidneys and liver. Hope you get some rest.

Hi i got my treatment, this was worse than the first. The nausea and bloating, wasnt prepared for it. Las night finished chemo @ 5pm. I was starting to get nausea and took an ativan @9:30. Slept from about 11:30 tol 2:45. And maybe another hour here and there. I have to drink this water but cant seem to get it down. Have to take the neulasta in a few hoursthe ingectio seems tricky. I hope i do it right. I took clarotin this am. I asked the nurse why she gave me three decadron, when the last time i positive i only got one. She said no ghis is your rx. I also have to go for an ultea sound of abdomen. This is scary bc i had the high liver enzymes. Thanks for listening, anyone have any suggections on something for me to eat. Thanks Patty

Hi, I did the neulsta shot. Called the Dr. Told her about ghe vomiting she gave me zofran. Hope this helps.

patty- I am sorry you are having a rough time. Keep calling your Oncs office or service if you don't get relief from the Zofran. If you can't drink water, try something else. I hated water and couldn't keep it down. Carbonated things like gingerale worked better. Juicy fruits like watermelon tasted good and added fluids. Ask your Onc why you got 3 Decadron and if you need it at all (I didn't). Do not hesitate to call your Onc, she needs to know and you should not be having nausea and vomiting. There are lots of good meds, you may need a different one. Hang in there. It gets better.

Designermom, So far the Zofran kicked in. It says to take two a day as needed. Hopefully I will be able to get some water down. I have a feeling there will be no sleep tonight.

patty- I can imagine you are feeling like sleep won't come after 3 Decadron. In the future, don't trust the nurse, ask her to confirm it with your Onc (who is just a phonecall away if not there). You need your rest and steroids make that hard. I am hoping the Ativan will allow you to rest. Do try to get some fluids down ( soup, juice, fruit, popcicles, icecream, tea, pudding, melon). It really is important to flush the Cytoxan out of your liver and bladder. I also found I hated drinking because I was bloated and felt full due to constipation shutting down my digestion. Stay on top of that with Miralax or other laxatives. Most laxatives didn't work for me. I found good old fashioned Milk of Mag did the trick. Once things start moving through, I could drink fluids more.

Patty - So sorry you're having such a rough time! This nausea thing has me puzzled. Had my tx yesterday (no neulasta shot this time!) and just feel dizzy today. They include atavan and a steriod in my IV, plus am given Emend for nausea. I take one capsule/day for 3 days. It does make me dizzy which sure beats nausea and vomiting. Have had problems with loose bowels the past week, but I took a stool softener last night to ward off constipation. As Designer Mom said, it is so important to be able to get plenty of fluids down to flush out the poisons. I bought a smashing wig yesterday. It makes me feel better. Hope you'll feel better soon. If you do experience bone pain, a heating pad helps. Be good to yourself. Hugs.

Thank you golfergrandma, im taking it easy right now , had to help the hubby put the ac in the bedroom. Making some soup , woke up woth a sore throat , and probably will get the mouth sores tomorrow. Getting my hair cut today I haven't had any loss because I only had two treatments, but it is very thick and on the summer a short do is comfy. Take care. Patty

Sorry, to bother you ladies again... but how many days after the neulasta shot should I still take the vlaritin?
0 -
Patty - Take the Claritin every day until your symtoms disappear -- I had back pain a week after the shot, as well as pain the next day after. Claritin won't hurt you, so feel free to take it as long as necessary.

Patty, so sorry you are having a hard time.Golfergrandma and designer mom are giving you good advice. I never could drink water when I was on CMF. I liked italian lemon soda, aranciata, strong ginger ale (the kind you get at whole foods which they call "ginger beer" but which is not beer), cranberry juice. I ate lemon flavored ices for fluid. Sometimes ordinary sparkling mineral water worked. So if one liquid does not work, there may be another that will work.
I used acupuncture for side effects It made a huge difference for me. I had incredible edema in my feet and legs and after acupuncture, the swelling went down. Once I changed to a regular acupuncture schedule both mouth sores and edema went away and did not come back. My general medical physician suggested the acupuncture and at the end of my treatment, my onc said that there were studies showing it did work for chemo side effects.
Anyway, feel better.
Hugs
Mandy

Patty,
I always found that sucking on lemon drops helped to ease my nausea. I hope you find "the trick" that works for you! Hugs!

Thank you for yhe advice. Have a happy and safe holiday weekend! Patty

Wishing everyone a safe and wonderful holiday weekend. I always think about the soldiers who served on this day---right down the block from me is a small memorial to the soldiers from my neighborhood who served and lost their lives from World War I to the present. The surviving soldiers have a parade--with a bag pipe and an honor guard--it is just a small neighborhood event, but it does give meaning to the day beyond the traditional barbecue. Believe it or not this small town event, takes place right in down town Philadelphia.

Good morning ladies, I hope you all had a very nice holiday weekend. Well, today I have to make my appointment for a complete abdomen ultrasound due to AST and ALT enzymes being elevated. I have to tell you I am completly freaking out from this. I am so afraid they are going to say you need to have more testing. On t.uo other things... I think my stomach is messed up from the neulasta
0 -
Patty - So sorry to hear about the need for more tests. The neulasta shot affects me much worse than the tx, and it really affects my GI tract! It takes more than a week to get back to normal. Hope the tests go well and you won't need anything further. You should mention to the onc about the neulasta shot se's.

Golfergrandma- thanks i go for the ultrasound tomorrow. What tupe of gi se do you get from the neulasta?
