Karen, it most definitely helps to have a sense of humor during all of this. Don't ya just love the entourage of pills, I used to say if I jumped you could hear them rattle in my tummy! Chemopause is when the chemo throws you into menopause. And it does NOT go away!

Jazzy, insurance is a PITA anymore. And I have to say, you say some of the sweetest, kindest things to our sisters. Love the canoe on the taters!

Sandy, aren't you just a wealth of information. Good luck onyour skin check.

Illona, we take what little bit of progress we can. So happy for you. A little breath of relief.

Kim, you're entitled to a day off from here, intentional or not. Sometimes I wait for you to post, so I can include you in mine…lol.

Sue, nothing more on having mx?

Same ole here. Work a little outside and some inside. Preparing for TG company. Town tomorrow and labs. Suppose to see onc next Wednesday, with TG the day after. Thinking I will cancel, not sure. Then leaving for CA on the 28th.

    NM,

Please don't get me wrong...giving up alcohol...not permanently by any means. What other time will I be funny, when either I'm buzzed or others are? :D I enjoy the drink concoctions way too much, I just wasn't sure how it goes with chemo or not and maybe I'm picking the evil of the smoke...that I want to give up permanently for sure. Just seems harder. Ugh!

I need to find a fun themed drink or something for Saturday. Or something to order after bridesmaid dress shopping. :)

    Illi! Awesome news!

    ChiSandy,

I"m waiting to see what they prescribe next week to avoid the issues all together. That other pill was Sucralfate. Blah. Today my daughter has her appointment for her 5 year and we are getting our flu shots together. I still feel I will need to bribe her with ice cream. Good luck today with your appointment!

    Goldie,

Good times. We have accepted that our plan to expand our family after the wedding will likely not be possible at this point. It is what it is. California? Business or pleasure?

Karen- I was not drinking during treatment. Too many other variables to deal with. I talked to my first MO in 2013 during rads treatment, whom said 1-3 drinks a week max. My current MO and I talked about it within the last year and he says he thinks there is no real effect.

I remember back in the 1980's when they first started talking about alcohol and bc and that there was a linkage. Perhaps when they found there was an increase with ER positive cancers. So there has been a back and forth on things for awhile.

However, we have probably all heard recently about the links between cancer and alcohol that came out in the news.

    https://www.cancer.net/blog/2017-11/did-you-know-d...

I am with NM on this and not inclined to give it up, no one has told me I need to so far! In general, I have stuck to that initial recommendation of 1-3 drinks per week. On occasion I go over, but usually only when I am on vacation, etc. I never drink every day, just not something I choose to do. I have blood sugar issues as well so keeping the wine to a minimum is best for my overall health (btw, my blood sugar is very good these days....)

I found there were two issues/decisions around the whole alcohol vs. not a) what I am personally willing to do and risk if there is a linkage and b) how to tell the people around me that I don't drink that much anymore. The later was actually harder for me as I had some social pressure from people in my family and friendship networks, whom clearly like having "drinking partners" to party along with them! They were used to me in the pre-cancer world, and when I told them I had to reduce (or stop for awhile), you would have thought I was telling them they could not drink! Well, some of those people are gone from my life (the hard core partiers don't fit in to my world these days) and the others have been educated on what I will or won't do. Sometimes dealing with other people around things is the hardest part of any of this? Should not be that way though.....

Ask your MO what you should be doing. Remember you can park it for awhile and go back to when you are done with treatment. It will be waiting for you.....

    Jazzy,

Thank you so much! I appreciate it. I got my flu shot with my daughter today..who apparently all I injected her with was betrayal. And it wiped me out. Took a nice nap this afternoon.

There is definitely a part of me that is looking forward to a nice cocktail after shopping for bridesmaids dresses. :) Should be a good time before the next round.

Karen, Sucralfate? That's really kickin' it old-school. Hope something can quiet down that heartburn. Remember, with chemo it's not necessarily caused primarily by excess stomach acid, nor a hiatal hernia or too-relaxed esophageal sphincter--because chemo kills cells that divide more rapidly, and among those cells are stomach and esophageal mucosa. So your upper GI tract is going to be more delicate and sensitive until your cycles are over and those epithelial cells (as well as hair follicles) have begun to grow back.

As for the skin check, my derm jokingly asked me if I was part vampire. When I asked why, she said that she's never had a white patient my age with almost no sun damage, and that therefore I must go out only at night. That little zit on my cleavage is actually a tiny ingrown hair. I'll see her again in May.

After tonight's rehearsal, there had been a party at a restaurant next door, and I had a small glass of a forgettable CA cabernet--but it was the occasion and company that mattered. Had a long commute home--long wait in the cold on the platform for the L (the elevated Brown Line was closer to the party and elevator-accessible, and I had to wait awhile for it). Train wasn't too crowded, but when I got off at Fullerton to transfer to the Red Line (which runs as a subway when it gets downtown) I had to wait 10 minutes. When the Red Line train came, it was so jam-packed that it had run express all the way from downtown. Got on, and for the first time no younger person (male or female) offered me a seat. Teens sat with their faces buried in their phones, afraid to look up lest someone (like yours truly) give them the side eye. One rail-thin young guy sat manspreading across two seats, hunched over his phone, with his backpack taking another seat. I had to dash for a seat once a young woman got up to exit the train at Belmont. By the time we got to my home station (Granville), five stops from the end of the line, it was still SRO--and I barely made it off the train before the doors closed. It was 11pm on a weeknight, with no baseball game or concert to explain the crowding.

Walked in the door, and Bob raised a glass and proclaimed "Le Beaujolais Nouveau est arrivé!" (It's the third Thursday in November). On the way home, he stopped at Binny's and picked up a couple bottles each of Drouhin, Duboeuf, Momessin and Henri Fessy. He had opened a bottle of Duboeuf (the winery that started the whole craze, which is a bigger deal in the U.S. than in France), his fave. I poured a couple ounces, swirled, sniffed and sipped. It's the archetypal Nouveau: banana-bubblegum-strawberry bouquet and very fruity. This is a party wine, but better than the usual generic ten-buck "fighting varietals." (It and the Momessin were nine bucks each, Fessy eleven and Drouhin--the only serious Burgundy producer--twelve). Think I'll cut a piece of Gruyère to go with it.

Hey everyone....wow busy here for sure.

SusyQ always praying for you and I'm glad u poop in to tell us how u feel and what's going on.

Lubs the meme's ladies, I always enjoy them.

Sandy ur a wonder being on the L that late, I'd never do that. Sounds like Bob is doing OK---I hope he retires sooner that expected but he sounds determined to just go longer. Ur really working hard on ur play--it will be fab I'm sure.

Jazzy ur busy as usual with some play time in there. Ur trip is just a few days away...Yahoo

NM is ur weather cold or snowy, I can figure u and Teka have the same type of climate. But I also see it doesn't stop u at all, so it's hard to tell what's going on there. Ur the energizing bunny of Maine. Actually everyone is in their own state. and Sandy has IL so I'm just slothy.

Oh Karen I'm sorry this is so hard on you. So enjoy all the good days u can, maybe the next one won't be as bad??? Maybe, but try o hard to rest whenever u can and look for help wherever it's given, just let people help u now. Ur DD is just darling but looks older than 5 already and she has to cheer u up so just let her.

Ugh Leslie's having a hard time too. The Dr. wanted to see her today. She said it's too early for nueropathy so she had to get test for blood clots, no clots but I guess it's not to early. They might change some things around with Chemo, her feet are like beets and she can hardly walk. I can't help her but I just listen when she wants to talk.

I'm so tired all the time and so busy with work, this business has picked up 100% since I started. I'm really happy it has for him, but it's harder for me---I'm just not that good really.

Lori u going away again, sounds good to me unless it's medical. Pray all tests are good.

    I'll be bock

    LUBS U ALL

Cami, so sorry about Les. I just don't have any words for you, that I haven't already said.

I'm not going away until the end of the month. Today is just town day.

Karen, my stepdaughter, her husband and 2 grandkids are in CA. But we also have business acquaintances that we hook up with for a bit, that way we can call it a business trip.

Good Morning, Loungettes! Happy TGIF day! Gray and gloomy, rain and snow alternating without a whole lot of either one. At least it hasn't been icy. Leaves are all gone from the trees, When there are breaks in the clouds the sunrises are beautiful, though. Went into a Dollar Tree the other day, had to go through a layer of Christmas stuff already. Thanksgiving hasn't even been here yet! I know some stores have had Christmas stuff out since Halloween. Just too soon! Sadie isn't fond of the wetness in the yard, you should see the looks she gives me when I let her out in the ayems! Funny for a dog that loves water in ponds, puddles, lakes, whatever, she does not like wet grass!

Goldie--I'm still sure I posted the other day, can't figure out why it didn't go through, but I'm still adjusting to the tablet, and have discovered that my favorite browser, Firefox, does not play well with this tablet for some reason, so I'm learning Chrome. The post probably didn't go through cuz of something I did, or didn't do.Funny to think someone waits for me to post before posting! I'm flattered!

LOVE the Pumpkin Pie Maker!!!!! Oh my goodness, I hadn't seen the Turkey stuffing one! LOL!

Karen--glad you aren't giving up alcohol entirely. I'm sure you can be just as funny sober as buzzed, but buzzed is probably more fun. I can't imagine how hard it is to give up smoking, Be careful about adding the stress of nicotine withdrawal during the stress of chemo. Bridesmaid dress shopping sounds like fun. The only time I've ever been a bridesmaid I lived in Maine and the wedding was in Michigan, the bride, my cousin, sent me a swatch of the material the other bridesmaid dresses were being made of and I made my own. My cousin had all the bridesmaids in the same color, but let each one choose their own dress style. The wedding party pics look so beautiful, it worked really well. I don't see any reason not to bribe ourselves from time to time. Linking something not fun, like a flu shot, with something pleasant, like ice cream, makes future episodes less anxiety provoking. Why does DD think you betrayed her? Sucralfate? Haven't heard of that one in ages! They did tell you to either chew it or dissolve it in an ounce of water, not to swallow it whole, didn't they? Part of the reason sucralfate has gone out of favor is that we keep forgetting to tell people how to take it correctly.

Jazzy--Good point about social pressure and how our circle of friends can change over time and with life changes. Talking to other people about our choices in this area can be really challenging.

Chi--so your Derm thinks you are part vampire? Too funny! Funny place for an ingrown hair, but I guess anywhere there is hair that can happen. At least it's easy to fix. Wow, sounds like a lot of crowding on the commute home. The world has really changed a lot, giving up seats in that situation doesn't seem to be something that is taught anymore. The current younger generation isn't going to know how to talk to another human face to face before long. I can picture weddings with the Bride, Groom and Officiant all in different rooms, guest attending from home, and everything done over the phone by video chat. I can't wait to see how that generation handles making babies! That wine sounds really tasty.

Cammy--I"m not even close to energizer bunny energy, trust me! The weather has turned cold, which really only means that the temperatures are where they are supposed to be for this time of year. Which is right around freezing, which means any precipitation is just as likely to be rain as snow, or to go back and forth during a storm. I"m glad the doc is looking at Leslie's feet and thinking about how to make it better. And I cannot believe you are all that bad at work, or Dan wouldn't keep you on! It's good his business has picked up, that's security for him.

Kim, that's one mimosa I wouldn't mind drinking (normally, I consider mimosas & kir royales a senseless waste of good bubbly).

Cami, my heart goes out to both Leslie and you. As moms, few things are worse than watching our babies suffer--no matter how old they are. As for work, doesn't it always go that when business is booming we are stretched to our physical and emotional limits? Why can't we be able to find that sweet spot--joy without overwork, and business moving along at a healthy clip?

As to being on the L late, you'd be surprised how Chicago has changed over just the last decade, not just the past 20-30 years. Just like in Brooklyn, neighborhoods we wouldn't have dared set foot in alone in 1997 have been gentrified to the point where we are safe setting foot there, but can't afford to live there! Housing projects have been torn down to make way for luxury condo developments and upscale strip malls (with pricey "lifestyle" businesses like Apple, Sur La Table, Williams-Sonoma, Crate & Barrel, gourmet grocers that make Whole Foods seem like Food4Less, REI, high-end bicycle shops, jewelers, trendy chain restaurants, cineplexes with full-service bars & restaurants inside them...). Young professionals--including those millennials lucky to have the skills or connections to get the few new-economy jobs that pay decently--have ditched their cars because of traffic, gas prices, insurance and the increasing scarcity of parking (not to mention their insanely high rents or condo mortgage prices). They even do their grocery shopping on the walk between home and stations, or online. So they rent Divvy bikes, leave them at CTA and Metra stations, and take the L and buses however late they run. (If they need cars, they rent iGo or ZipCars by the hour, just like the bikes).

Used to be that after 10pm, the only people riding the CTA were night-shift janitors and homeless people (both the sane ones and those carrying on conversations with their imaginary friends) living "on the go" because they couldn't get into shelters or don't want the arbitrary rules and lack of privacy & safety. Now, people of all ages are going back into the Loop and adjacent neighborhoods for cocktails (as opposed to a shot-&-a-beer), concerts, live theater, restaurants, & holiday shopping; colleges have opened downtown campuses; and professionals keep late hours at their desks (sometimes because their continued employment depends on it). The irony is that when I moved here 39 years ago, everyone in NYC took the subway--which served just about every part of the 5 boroughs--but people warned me "don't take the CTA at night." Now, though the NYC subway system is just as extensive as it always was, it is becoming increasingly decrepit as people desert it for taxis, rideshares and Citi bikes; while the CTA has added lines to both O'Hare & Midway airports (NYC runs only to JFK, not LaGuardia), modernized their trains and stations, and consolidated their Ventra prepaid farecard system with the Metra suburban commuter rail and Pace suburban buses.

And there's something liberating about scanning my Ventra card, taking the escalator or elevator up or down (depending on elevated vs. subway station) to the platform, popping in my AirPods, bringing up a playlist on my Apple Watch and zoning out to the music while watching the city unfold as the train zips along. Now that I'm a senior, of course, and the trains & buses are plastered with signs saying "Priority seating for seniors and disabled." Perhaps the problem last night was that while I'm definitely a senior (will be 67 in Jan.), I don't use a cane and people have told me I look to be in my 50s. (BTW, seniors no longer ride free, but we do ride for half-price with a special photo ID Ventra card, for which I haven't gotten around to apply).

    NM,

Ugh! No they did not tell me that at all! I was supposed to get the liquid but it wasn't covered, so they gave me this and the bottle directions don't even say that. Man! And of course I haven't been taking it four times daily as the instructions say either.. omg...I'm such a moron. lol! Explains why the heart burn feels like it wants to keep coming through. Man alive!

I'm also doing the same thing...it has to be at David's (three out of staters) and it has to be wine chiffon or mesh. No satin or lace. but with 8 bridesmaids, they aren't shaped the same so I want them to pick a style that makes them feel beautiful.

I injected her with betrayal (or a flu vaccine). She adamently told me she didn't want a shot and how dare I give it to her anyway. lol! She is hysterical. I wanted to kiss her tears away, but it was hard not to giggle at her.

And I'm going to have a drink tonight and one tomorrow. Monday will be here before I know it and I won't want a drink ... AT ALL. :) It's gray and gloomy here in the Twin Cities as well. Maybe that is why I'm all emotional today. I've been getting all bent out of shape about my family not at having said anything to me about this cancer. I have a huge extended family on my mom's side and only a handful have said anything. I was told because they know my prognosis is good...huh? So I've been angry and today I'm a basket case. I'm just hormonal or something.

    Goldie,

Nice that you can count it towards that and fun times to visit both. :) My bestie actually lives out in AZ. :) You may have seen her face on my blog...I advertise her business on there. lol!

    Cami,

Yes my daughter just had her 5 year....3 feet 10 inches tall and 46.5 pounds. 96th percentile for height. Giant. she definitely brightens my day and makes things better. She always wants to snuggle with mama. :) Poor Leslie! I hope they are able to make adjustments and that she feels better. That is awful! :(

    ChiSandy,

Makes me not look forward to my daughter becoming one of those teens. It's definitely not a world of manners and thoughtfulness out there lately. That sucks, but I hope you were able to enjoy what sounds like a very fancy and delicious glass of wine. :) And cheese...yum yum yum! I love to have the ham and gruyere sandwich at Caribou coffee. Probably less healthy than just cutting myself a slice to go with a glass of wine though. lol!

Okay I have to be heading out soon. My bridesmaid from california is in town since yesterday...I think...well she is wandering around my town somewhere. Anyway

Delicious, yes--but fancy? Goodness, no! Nine bucks a bottle. (Of course, Whole Paycheck is charging twelve). Gamay grapes were harvested and crushed in Sept. The weight of the grapes themselves crushed them, called "carbonic maceration." (Other more serious wine grapes are crushed by mechanical presses). The "free-run" juice was briefly fermented in tanks and then bottled (the skins are recycled as mulch or fertilizer), the bottles flown to the U.S. Thurs. morning and the wine was just officially released last night. That's why it's called "nouveau:" it's as young a wine as it gets. Of course, everyone thinks you have to drink it up before New Year's or else it'll go bad. Nope--it'll just lose much of its fun fruity taste & aroma and become for all intents and purposes an ordinary Beaujolais, still perfectly drinkable for 1-2 yrs. But it never lasts that long, because people drink it in quantity over the holidays,

It was delicious! Going out to eat for Thanksgiving with my friend I am visiting in TX for the holiday, so I am going to be looking for some good wine to pair with our Italian cuisine for the holiday.

Good Morning, Loungettes! Happy Saturday! Meeting Mom and Dick at another bean supper this evening, so I don't need to cook today. I am going to roast myself a turkey tomorrow, one I can carve up and freeze a good bit of the meat for future use. And then boil down the carcass and make a big batch of stock to portion out and freeze. Wasn't really planning to do this but I left the turkey out of the freezer too long and it defrosted enough that I couldn't put it back in the freezer, so here I am cooking turkey! Found a couple of nice, big, fresh ones for Mom, those are safely in the freezer. Sadie will be a very busy doggie in the kitchen tomorrow, cuz I am also going to cook up a couple of meals and lunches for next week. Time to start brown-bagging at lunch time rather than eating out when I'm working, better for the budget and better for me, since I can be more proactive about making myself stop at a reasonable time for a lunch break if I have food with me.

I have officially passed Instructor Training, and my first class is the last week of January. I've got a boatload of prep work to do, and need to record a mini teaching session for feedback between now and then, so I need to do some serious calendar work between now and then. I was surprised when I saw that I am going to be paid $8 and hour more on these class days because of the commute distance! It is about 50 miles, takes about an hour, but is interstate driving all the way. As long as the weather is good, should be an easy trip each day. If the weather is not good, then it will be a long drive each way! Anyway, I am really looking forward to doing this class and really getting settled in to do more of them. So much fun, and a chance to wear nice clothes to work! Am I foolish or what?

Chi--It's funny, the more I learn about wines and have been trying different types, the more I find I don't really care for champagne. I like bubbly stuff, but I like sweet bubbly stuff, so mixing champagne with other things sounds really attractive. And I still remember that drink I had on the Disney Cruise a couple years ago, Elderbubble, so yummy. I'm going to have to look up that recipe again and make some up. Will need to get some champagne, though. How come you haven't applied for the half price fare card? If we've got to put up with all the hassles of aging we might as well take advantage of the few perks!

Karen-that's the problem with sucralfate, needs to be chewed or dissolved, needs to be taken often. I think letting the Bridesmaid choose their own dress style is a great idea, and makes for fantastic wedding pics, too. Not only does everyone feel beautiful, they really do look beautiful, too! And the same color creates enough consistency to pull the whole look together across the wedding party. I can see why your DD would think getting a flu shot was getting injected with the flu, it does sound that way when you think about how we say "getting a flu shot." We probably should be saying "getting a flu prevention shot." Youngsters can be very literal! And I would not say you are "just hormonal" to be feeling angry right now. It's a complicated time, and taking meds that jerk around our already unbalanced hormones doesn't help. Anger, fear, frustration, despair, depression, all are normal feelings experienced around a life changing event, and a cancer diagnosis is certainly a life-altering event. It seems like your family should have something to say about what's going on, no matter what the prognosis. So have yourself a good stomp around the house, or a good cry, or whatever you need to express how you feel!

She is in Phx, Camelback area, but she and her boyfriend just bought a new house. Not positive where, but probably not far from there though for work.

    NM,

Yes they all looked so beautiful and happy today picking out styles they liked. It was a good day. I didn't do good with food or drinks today, but flushing toxin day tomorrow. :) Lots of junk the last two days. :)

Yeah...I guess I'll talk to my doctor on Monday about the heartburn stuff then. Not looking forward to the treatment. But three more of these and then on to Taxol, which I hear isn't as bad.

Well so tired, I'll be back. :D Have a great night ladies!

Sounds pretty tasty, but I certainly wouldn't use a good "methode Champenoise" (first & second fermentations in the same bottle, just as in Champagne itself) sparkler or even a cava. You'd be wasting everything you're paying for in such a wine if you mixed it with syrups or spirits. I'd look for a "charmat" (bulk-process) sparkler like an inexpensive prosecco, Barefoot Bubbly, Cook's, Asti spumante, anything but Andre--that stuff's nasty, whatever you put in it. Some groceries and liquor stores even sell elderflower soda pop.

Good Morning, Loungettes! Well, looks like Sadie and I dodged a bullet this weekend. The big winter storm has only brought rain so far, and with temps in the 40's I doubt we'll see any snow today. Actually, I'm hoping some stuff that froze on the deck will thaw enough that I can move them and get them better placed for the reset of the winter, aka, out of the way of snow shoveling.

I found an inexpensive Dell desktop to replace the dead computer, it should arrive early next week. I'm getting along pretty well with the tablet, but there are some things I just need the bigger computer for, and that is so much easier to work on with the full size monitor and keyboard. It's a refurbished, older model, but it will do everything I need it to do and has the advantage of being wireless, which will be a step up for me. When I had the new satellite service put in I had to buy an adapter for the old computer. Going to keep the adapter, though, may come in handy again someday.

Karen--I am so glad you had a good day with the bridesmaids, and so what if you ate some junk food and had a couple of drinks? Food and drink are a large part of the enjoyment of life for almost everyone, and there is no reason for you to feel guilty or regret enjoying one day to the fullest. That is what all this treatment he## is supposed to be keeping us alive for, to experience the good times and have good days! Do talk to the doc about the heartburn, if the current meds are not helping you may have sores in your esophagus that are causing the pain, it may not be acid reflux, and you may need different treatment.

Chi--I was going to mix up an elderbubble using an inexpensive posecco that I opened and am not crazy about, but the elderberry syrup had mold in it! YUCK! I guess it doesn't keep forever, even in the fridge. I'm going to see if I can find some more to have in the house. In the meantime I found some orange blossom water, and mixed that with the prosecco, and that was actually pretty good! Need to mix it a little lighter next time, though, that orange blossom water is strong stuff, taste wise. Just don't want to throw away the prosecco, that's too much of a waste, but experimenting with it is ok. I'll look for the Elderflower soda pop, I'll have to look for that, too.

    Dances with Hornets's DOTD:

    Port Elderflower Drink Recipe

    • 1 1/2 ounces light rum
    • 1 ounce port
    • 3/4 ounce St. Germain Elderflower Liqueur
Fill a cocktail shaker with ice, and add all three ingredients. Shake well until chilled, and then strain the mixture into an old-fashioned glass.

NM, bummer about the turkey, but at least not a waste. And lunch for the week. Congrats on finishing/passing your training. But had no doubts. I hope it's all you want it to be. Ahhhh, another bean suppah. Elderbubble sounds yummy. Can you freeze the elderberry syrup? Oh my all the cords and and things with cords, that come with our computers, printers, scanners, phones, etc. We have soooooooo many!!!

Karen, different dresses but same color sounds wonderful and should make everyone look and feel beautiful. To make treatments go by faster, or at least make it sound that way. I would often say "after this next treatment, I have 2 more to go." Rather than saying I have 3 more.

Slept in this morning, didn't get up until 5 am. Had a nice visit with my friends. TM's are up about 20 points each, so I guess it's time for more FU pills and see if that helps. 11 degrees here this morning with the wind chill. But warming up and sunny.

Whoa--5 am is "sleeping in?" To me, 5 am is about midway through my sleep! My definition of sleeping in is either not getting up in time to meet an appointment or obligation, or at least 10 am (if not the crack of noon). Of course, I'm a night owl and rarely if ever get to bed before 1 am (which to me is early). I guess it's all those years of performing--when "dinner" is what I can eat at what's open (or I feel like cooking) after a show or concert. Never could eat much before singing--a full tummy wrecks my breath support & intonation.

DsOTD: Last night, with the grass-fed ribeye I made, we opened a 2014 Kirkland (yup, Costco) Willamette Valley (OR) Pinot Noir. Tonight, after rehearsal at a friend's brunch/dinner, Momessin Beaujolais Nouveau and Mumm Napa 2015 Blanc de Blancs Reserve.

Good Morning, Loungettes! Happy Monkey Day! I now have a lot of white and dark turkey meat in the freezer, sandwich slices in the fridge, a carcass soaking in the stock pot in the fridge and makings for giblet gravy in the fridge. If I had been thinking I'd have put the carcass in the crock pot and let it go overnight, but the stock pot comes with a strainer basket that makes it a lot easier to get the bones and stuff out of the stock with less mess, so I'm probably better off anyway. Probably pick off the meat after work tonight, then maybe put some in the crock pot for a turkey rice soup. I've got to admit that bird came out pretty good, nice and juicy. Sadie said the skin was very good, too. Nice and crunchy. I only ate a small bit of the skin, do love the crunch when it's crisp like that.

The lovely almost 60 degree temps have dropped, back to freezing again this ayem. Make up your mind, Mother Nature!!

Goldie--You should have seen the look on my mother's face when I told her about not putting the turkey int he freezer and then getting 2 big fresh turkeys (which ARE safely in the freezer). You'd have thought I said I bought rat meat for Thanksgiving! Turns out that decades ago Mom bought a fresh turkey, and when she got it home found out it was rotten through and through. She has never even considered a fresh turkey since that time. Which was literally DECADES ago! So Mom is convinced that all fresh turkeys are rotten. I bought these from a local meat market (yes, I paid more than 39 cents a pound, I paid 99 cents a pound) that specializes in fresh meat, got birds from the delivery that morning and from a reputable Maine farm. I've gotten other meat there that has been great quality, have no reason to think the turkeys won't be good. But I'm sure I'll hear about it all Thanksgiving! I don't know about freezing elderberry syrup, will have to look into that. Orange blossom water should freeze ok, will have to do that before that goes bad. I am so sorry to hear about the TMs going up. I hope more FU pills keep it under control. So not fair.

Chi--I'm with you, 5 ayem is not sleeping in! Lovely sounding wines you had the last couple of nights!

Sandy, I go to bed usually by 7pm. So getting up at 5 gives me 10 hours of sleep. Plus in the summer, when it's so hot, sun is shining by 4:30.

NM, I paid that much for my butterball. Glad all of the turkey turned out yummy. After getting a rotten turkey, I'm surprised that she still eats it. Crispy skin is good indeed, just sounds so gross!

Karen, good luck today and in the days to come. Hoping the AC is kinder this time around.

Another cold morning in the 20's. I guess it's winter?

Goldie, it would drive me nuts to hit the sack even before prime time TV begins. Most of the time I'm barely tucking into dinner at my 7pm (often, that's when I'm getting back from errands which end with grocery shopping). And Bob is seldom home before 10 pm, and often doesn't get home till midnight. If I went to bed at 7, I would never see him.

Balmy 47 degrees & sunny right now. Went outside to pick herbs for my omelet. Tomorrow the winds should be back. But mild-ish, no rain right through Sat. Sunday will be "sharply colder" with highs around freezing. Natch, that's the day when downtown rehearsals resume.

Hi friends- just a quick note before I blast of town tomorrow for the week. I hope everyone here has some nice plans for the holiday this week. Whether you are traveling, staying home, cooking or being fed, I hope your day is peaceful and your weekend is relaxing!

For those of you in treatment, I was between surgery recovery and rads this time five years ago and kept things really simple, so you do the same too. It is the only way to get through this busy time of the year and take good care of yourselves so you get through all you need to do. There will be more holidays waiting for you celebrate next year too. Sometimes it is hard to see that when you are in the throes of it......

Super busy weekend with my music performance. We had a dress rehearsal and some pre-set up on Sat, then a very full day with moving equipment, playing, being at the gig for hours, and then break down and moving equipment back out. My back is talking to me today for sure with all the things I am trying to get done before I leave for the next week. The performance was a great success and went to enjoy some vino afterwards with some friends who are in the group with me. Nice weekend of music, friends and fun!

Heading out to Texas tomorrow to spend the holiday with friends this year and be in touch when I get and settled next week!

Jazzy, glad you had a great gig. Eat right, hydrate & rest, though--once the stress of the show & its logistics is over, the adrenaline flags and so does resistance; some of my severest cases of flu happened the night after a multi-performance show run, the day after the end of a tour, or as soon as I had won a trial for which I'd prepared long & hard. Last year, the day after we broke from rehearsals for Thanksgiving week, I started coming down with laryngitis. So I started pushing Vit. C, water, chicken broth & zinc--as well as starting a Medrol Dosepak to start the night of dress rehearsal. The steroid worked; but the day after we closed (and the day after the last pill), my back seized up worse than ever before (so bad I had to buy a Rollator for getting around the house) and didn't resolve till a few days before Christmas.

So I am being proactive this year about fluids and repaying my sleep debt.

    Jazzy,

Have such a wonderful trip and a happy turkey day along with everyone else.

    Good evening, good morning everyone

I'm sitting up, so tired and yet I can't sleep. Ugh! Had my 2nd round today. Either I wasn't paying attention OR the second round was different. I felt awesome and then literally 10 minutes after red devil, the color drained from my face. My mom noticed. It was slight, but it almost looked like a I used a different filter when I took these before and after pictures. Fun week ahead but we are getting ahead of the constipation and the heartburn this time.

Here are the before and after pics...so funny to me at the difference. Ah well, I have the week essentially off as the doc says it's pretty much going to be the same, it's just about trying to lessen the worst of it so I'm not going to the ER and feeling as good as I can. I'm okay with that. And I just schedule other appointments in the same week. Counseling and another MUGA...lovely.

The girls had a wonderful time shopping for dresses and all the ones that could make it picked a dress. :) Yay! Then we went to lunch and had some wonderful drinks and food. And finally Sunday my overnight guest from California and I went to a cute mexican restaurant and had some delish food and a margarita. Not having cocktails for 2 weeks and suddenly having them is definitely skewing my ALT levels. Thought my dr appreciated my honesty when I said I had more like 5 each day rather than a 1-3. Problem with feeling so amazing the last few days before this second round. That being said all my other results were perfect. So that is good. :D

Now here is some lovely food shots and for those that are curious the dresses that were picked by the ladies (already approved to share them on my blog so they will not be offended by this). :D

A couple of the girls have on long, but will be getting short. The color is the wine, which is why I put this in black and white on the others.

We still have four ladies left. 8 bridesmaids and 2 personal attendants. Yeah I think I'm putting the PAs at the table and in dresses. It was way to hard to choose. Such great women in my life. And I guess at the end of the day, it's my wedding .. so unless they don't want to be in it and Kevin is okay with it..we can do it! :D
