Good Morning, Loungettes! Happy Twofer Tuesday! Did you know that today is National Stuffing Day? Not sure why it's 3 days before Thanksgiving, who knows. Ah, now they are talking about every kind of stuffing out there--stuffed peppers, baked stuffed haddock, stuffed pork chops, all kinds of stuffing. Crazy the stuff they come up with on this news show in the mornings. Looking forward to the Thanksgiving morning show, they always cook a dinner in the studio during the show, and it's sometimes successful, sometimes not, and always fun and funny to watch. There are usually 3 of them, the weather man, and a male and female anchor, but this year the female is off this week. So it will just be the guys, so it should be even funnier than usual.

OK, running late, going to poop off now, will be back tomorrow or this evening.

    NM,

Inside/ long story about pooping from this weekend bridesmaid dress shopping, but my cousin Maria's head would be exploding right now after what she had to listen to from the other ladies. Too funny that you mention. Happy pooping...I'm hoping for the same good news today after the last time! :D

Sandy, most of what we watch on tv is what we have recorded. I remember the days when I did stay up late. Heck, I can remember not even leaving the house until like 9 pm to go out clubbing with a girlfriend.

Jazzy girl, yet again, you have such kind words for everyone. Sounds like your weekend was wonderful and now to spend a wonderful time in TX. Enjoy, and safe travels.

Karen, you mentioned the girls in the wedding could pick out their own dress, but everyone would be in the same color. Does that mean the dresses will all be made with the same material, or just a wine color in general, so there will be variations of the color? I believe you said wine color. Yep, you did…in your last post. The dresses look beautiful as well as the gals. As for pictures, I usually just go back a couple days later, after everyone has had a chance to see them, and delete them. Again, hoping this treatment is easier on you than the last one. And after the next one, you have one left of AC.

NM, what morning show are you talking about? Or is it a local news station? I think you are going to moms for TG dinner? Is Ms. Sadie going with?

Finishing up cleaning and laundry today, see onc tomorrow, so not sure I'll be checking in. Been trying hard to stay out of the wabbit hole. But I have my moments, yes I do!

I found this and right straight away I thought of a couple of loungettes, can you guess who?

    Goldie,

Yes I had them pick wine and wanted to stick with a mesh or chiffon due to not wanting shiny or lace...the satin I believe selected on three of the girls is more matte on the short ones and not as shiny as most satin, so I was okay with it. Quite honestly out side of being too shiny or lace, I just want the ladies to look and feel beautiful. That will make my pictures very beautiful is genuine happy faces. :)

Yep...getting close and changing up some things for hopefully an easier week this week. :)

I'll be back late,r but I couldn't sleep and was up at 200am...waiting for Kandi to wake up and take my daughter to the zoo so I can take a nap. i think I"m ready.

Good morning friends- just another quick note before I get going to my day and flight later.

Chi- I agree about performances and am dosing up on Vit C now and because I am getting on a plane today too. My back is feeling better after being flat for awhile in bed. I won't say I slept great though because the winds were up last night and banging things around last night. But I may get a chance for a nap today before I go.

Karen- wow, what a reaction with the color draining from your face. I guess they don't call it the "red devil" for nothing? I hope you can push through this next one. Focus on one at a time.

I was in a large wedding once with 9 attendants and it can be really hard to deal with trying to get everyone to agree on a bridesmaid dress. The friend of that time was trying to get us to agree on something we all wanted (like when is that ever going to happen), but in the end, she had them made by someone who screwed them all up. I ended up getting fitted in the wrong dress and then when it came to wedding day, the dresses were all a mess. The bride was in tears and said we would pin our way through the issues and make sure she had a good day. That was like 30 years ago and think in this day and age, people have figured out one style does not fit all and to allow women to choose a style that works really makes it do-able. I like the off the shoulder ones in your post the best. And good job on enjoying some tasty food and margs as well!

Goldie- I see Cami is back on the pole again. Or is that Chevy......

BTW, be aware of this phone scam you might see on your cell phone. Someone calls (the number did not come up market as spam) but you answer, then they hang up and start texting you. Dude saying we know each other from Linked In (not) and look forward to being business partners. Looking forward to stealing my money is more like it. For me, my cell phone is my biz phone and may be true for a few of you self employed types so be aware. Number is blocked.

    https://www.inc.com/joseph-steinberg/do-not-return...

Then I had some woman message me about investing in some gold this am too, and told her I don't accept spam and to move along please. The person writes back they are the same person. So thanks for outing yourself! If you have a Linked In account, be on alert. They are busy out there this holiday week!

    Happy Thanksgiving one mo time!

    Jazzy,

With the simplicity of this, there is always one that wants to make it difficult or more. They have sense fallen into line. I mean...what a dream...very few limitations on what they can pick if they get the right color and fairly similar material. Things that people do when you start planning a wedding...floor me. Some make it about them and truly don't believe that they are. I probably am guilty of this in the past myself. But onward and upward. I'm just trying to survive what I call hell week and then get to the week of good feelings.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone! I'm going to be napping soon...I hope!

Karen- I had some really bad bridesmaid experiences in my 20's with both a sibling's wife and two friends from high school days. Between the time and money involved during a time I was in school, had no money, or was new to working and traveling a lot, the bridezilla's made it really hard for me. After I hit 30, I told myself to just say no to wedding party offers after my late 20s.

But then in my 30s to early 40s, two best friends asked me to stand up for them at their unions. The first couple had a simple service in Laughlin, NV and I gently asked if I had to wear anything with taffeta and a big bow on my butt? They said no, wear something you want so I bought a pretty floral dress from Dillards and was perfect. Second wedding followed a few years later with biker friends back in my home town, whom were married by a justice of the peace wearing black leather while I chose a tasteful leopard suit. Those weddings were fun and festive, and I am still good friends with all in the later group. The group at the top, not so much.

No one asks me anymore to be in their weddings (nor should they, lol....) Happy

Karen, I compared both photos, and noticed all the colors in the second photo (not just your skin) are duller and surfaces appear slightly darker. Does the chemo suite have windows? If so, when the second photo was taken a cloud may have been passing. If not, sometimes lights (especially fluorescent) can flicker imperceptibly and often the difference is apparent only after the fact in a photo. I don't doubt that the Adriamycin caused the color to drain from your face, because blood "migrating south" from the face & head towards the lungs to be re-oxygenated is a common reaction to extreme stress. (The Red Devil is the poster child for stress).

I've had to be a bridesmaid only twice, thank goodness. First was at 14 as a jr. bridesmaid for an older cousin's (first) wedding. (The other jr. bridesmaids were my 12-yr-old sister and a first cousin just a year younger than me), I recall having to wear stockings and Queen Anne heels dyed to match the dresses (which were custom-made). We also had to wear short white kid gloves (which I recall got permanently water-stained from our bouquets). Second time was my college best friend's wedding--just the maid of honor & me, in identical pine green velvet long gowns. I got a lot of mileage out of that gown for a few years. After that came my own wedding. I decided I wanted my color scheme to be hot pink & navy. My dad had an "in" at Pandora in NYC's garment district, and the bridesmaid dresses were presented as an ensemble with my wedding gown (high-necked white peau with leg-o-mutton sleeves, Venise lace and seed pearls--remember, this was 1971, when strapless wedding dresses would have been considered undecorous). The bridesmaid dresses were Empire-waisted and offered in several colors. My bridesmaids were both petite (in frame & stature--one of them was the aforementioned best friend, the other the aforementioned first cousin), so they got to wear hot pink. The maid of honor was my kid sister--who towered over me by at least 2 inches (we're nearly the same height now, thanks to age) and had more than a few pounds to spare. Hence the navy, which was elegant & slimming...and enabled her to use it twice more. The bride's family paid for all the bridesmaid dresses back then (my folks paid for my bridesmaids' dresses and Bob's parents paid for the groomsmen's formal wear--striped pants, morning coats and bowler hats. Can you tell I was heavily into etiquette and Brides' mag. at the time)? I would never have chosen my bridesmaids' dresses if they'd have had to buy them themselves--I would have dictated only color and length and trusted their tastes.

Good Morning, Loungettes! Happy Day Before Turkey Day! Sadie and I are going to Mom and Dick's today, I'm going to activate her new phone and see if I can get the data transferred from the old on to the new one. MOm doesn't know it yet but she's going to have an online account set up for her phone and probably a G-mail account as well. She and Dick use an email service run by a friend of theirs, and it's constantly not working, usually because of things Mom does when she is on the computer. She will check any box that pops up without reading what it's about and ends up with all kinds of stuff she doesn't need. Then she gets my brother to clean out her computer. But since he's moved further away I've gotten the calls for help with the phone issues. She just got done setting up Dick's Jitterbug phone, that whole process took them a couple of weeks of phone calls and going back and forth. But she got it done, so good for her! Anyway, Sadie and I wll get a nice visit it and a free lunch, so should be a good day.

    Now, on to ketchuping!

Chi--gotta love the way the weather can get cold or wet or just miserable just when we want it to be nice. Of course, if we could control the weather most everyone would still be unhappy since nobody every really agrees on stuff like that!

Jazzy--Have a great trip and a wonderful Thanksgiving! Glad the performance went so well and the gathering afterwards sounds like it was a great time, too!

Chi--keeping up with hydration and rest is a very important thing to do this time of year. My go-to for this kind of thing is chicken broth with lots of garlic. Tomorrow I'm making up a batch of turkey broth with loads of garlic to have on hand. Too bad garlic and Vit C and such doesn't help with back issues.

Karen--wow, that stuff hit you hard! That's quite a change in color. Glad the dress shopping was successful and fun, and glad you had a good night out with your guest. And I wouldn't be too quick to blame the alcohol for the liver function test changes, usually you need to drink quite heavily for weeks to months before liver damage starts, but the liver damage from toxic drugs like chemotherapy starts almost immediately. Of course, the 2 together is a bit of stress on the ol liver, but you gotta live a life, or why bother with treatment in the first place? Those are beautiful dresses on some beautiful ladies! I can picture them all in the same wine color. That's going to make an awesomely lovely picture! I haven't heard of personal attendants before, is that like a junior bridesmaid? Or are these adults? How is a personal attendant different from a Bridesmaid? And yes, it's your wedding, you can have whatever you want as long as it's legal and the groom is ok with it.

Goldie--Yes, the morning show is the morning news on a local TV channel. The show comes on at 4:30 am (not that I see the beginning of it except VERY rarely) and runs until 7 am. At 7 am I need to be off the computer and getting dressed and out of the house for work. Been listening to this newscast in the ayems for years and years now, so I guess it's just part of my routine. I can remember when the female achor was pregnant, now both her boys are in school. Mom and Dick are going to Dick's son's for T-day dinner tomorrow, Mom is making a T-day dinner for us on Friday. So Sadie and I will be going to Mom and Dick's today and Friday.

    Love the pole dancing bunny!!!

Karen--sorry you are having trouble sleeping. I remember having a lot of trouble sleeping during surgery and rads, mostly due to stress. I napped when I could and that helped. This will get better as treatment goes on and begins to feel more like a routine.

Jazzy--Can you sleep on the plane? I try to sleep when I fly if the flight is any length at all. I like to take my Kindle and listen to an audiobook while I snooze. But that's not for everyone. I do worry about what I'm being exposed to when in a plane. Or in an airport. And then I tell myself that it's no worse than my going into nursing homes and assisted living facilities on a regular basis. Oh, boy, that bridesmaid dress story is horrible! That poor Bride! I can imagine I would be in tears, too. I'm glad you could all "pin it together" and make a good day for the Bride. That's real friendship and love in action. That's good scam info. I don't answer calls if I don't recognize the number. If it's a legit call the person will leave a message and identify themselves.

    Goldie--that is one crazy clip!!!

Chi--Etiquette is a fascinating thing. I have several etiquette books written in the 1890's and early 1900's and love reading through them. Some mention in the wedding etiquette section that a bride may purchase or help purchase the bridesmaid dress for a bridesmaid of "limited circumstances" or whose family is in mourning. And it was acceptable for a young woman in mourning to be a bridesmaid, but she needed to wear a more muted color than the rest of the bridesmaids, and did not wear black that one day. I've always been most fascinated by the etiquette surrounding death and mourning.

    LOL Chevy!!!!!!!

Finally got my chit together and had my thrice-yearly hair appt.: trim, root touch-up, Brazilian Blowout keratin treatment (don't judge). Waited so long for the color because my gray is coming in lighter, and I notice a lot of blondes deliberately keep (or even dye) their roots dark--so mine weren't as conspicuous as in the past. I try to wait 4 mos. between keratin treatments--not just because it's a PITA to keep my hair dry and "unbent" (no clips, barrettes, or ponytails) for the first 72 hrs. but also to reduce chemical exposure and stress on my hair. The process requires two blow-dryings & a flatironing, all of which increase traction; I wince every time I feel a hair pull out. But I have to do it because my hair's natural texture is both fine and somewhat frizzy, and my derm says to shampoo no oftener than twice a week to protect it. As the untreated roots grow in during the final month, I begin getting waves again where I don't want them (although the "piecey" or "beachy wave" look is all the rage, on anyone over 35 and not rail-slim it looks like a bad DIY haircut and bed-head, and in a sloppy and not sexy way). That means having to sleep with my hair up, and flatironing or ionic heat-brushing after blow-drying. I have learned to demand that cabdrivers keep the windows closed or put my hair up in a clip to avoid tangles and breakage. Once I took a Jeep tour through the Sonoran Desert outside Phoenix--and didn't know the open Jeep would go on to the freeway and do 75mph. So I didn't do a ponytail and didn't carry a clip in my purse. I had to get my hair cut mid-neck-length after that.

The salon was around the corner from Argyle St., what used to be called Chinatown North but is now "Asia on Argyle" because there are now also Vietnamese, Japanese (including a Shiseido outlet), Korean, and Indian businesses to reflect the diversity of the Asian population. (Most of Chicago's ethnically Chinese people who don't live in integrated neighborhoods live in the original Chinatown on the near S. Side, which has seen a boom in middle-income & upscale condo & townhouse construction). I went to Sun Wah BBQ and got half a roast duck, Shanghai baby bok choy (with plain rice included), beef chow fun and shrimp dumpling soup to go. With the temps having fallen into the 20s, that soup--based on chicken broth--was my fave dish of the bunch. Got small orders of everything, yet it fed the three of us with plenty left over. DOTD was jasmine "pearls" tea, which I brought back from Twining's tea shop in London last spring.

Been getting into almond-milk cappuccinos lately: both at espresso bars and at home using my big espresso rig as well as Nespresso & Aeroccino. The barista at the e-bar across from the Bar Assn. showed me she uses Pacific "Barista Series," which is designed to froth even better than either the regular Pacific Original Almond or dairy milk. Lower in sugar and fat, too. So I ordered a case of 6 1-qt cartons from Amazon (it isn't sold in stores to consumers). Haven't touched cow's milk in at least two weeks.

ED, I wasn't insinuating ANYTHING. The two of you have, in one way or another, admitted to pole dancing or commenting on the other one for their skills, or lack there of!!!!! Hope it brought you a smile! Ha ha, love the kitty at The PussyCat Lounge.

NM, electronics can be hard for those of us that use them all the time, let alone an elderly person that doesn't have a clue. I love it when I see someone who looks to be 80, using an iPhone, texting, ect. LOL, telling Karen to have whatever she wants, it's her wedding "as long as it's legal". We are doing dinner here on Friday as well.

Sandy, you hair got so tangled in the jeep that you had to get it cut?

Wishing everyone a wonderful Thanksgiving Day. But I got to say, I give thanks for you guys here…EVERYDAY!

Good Morning, Loungettes! Happy Turkey Day! Sadie and I are wishing everyone who is celebrating to day a love filled, food filled laughter filled holiday, and those not celebrating today a wonderful and safe day if traveling or working or relaxing! Sadie and I are looking forward to watching the Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade and puttering in the kitchen and working on teaching prep. Going to have a nice turkey dinner at Mom and Dick's tomorrow. Got up a bit earlier than planned to catch the Thanksgiving Meal prep on the morning news show. The female anchor was on the air, I thought she was going to be off all week, but she was only off the beginning of the week. She's injured her left pinky finger and has that hand wrapped up so she was working one handed. The theme this year was finger foods. They made a couple of pizzas, one with stuffing mixed into the dough and one with stuffing for the dough. Dessert was bacon, maple and something crack. I'm hoping they will put up the recipes on their website, that last one sounded really good. As usual there were lots of laughs and woopsies and teasing happening, and not everything got cooked in time to be put on the table at the end of the program. My favorite woopsie was when the camera cut from the news desk to the weather screen and the weatherman was still in the kitchen measuring out ingredients and essentially shouted the weather report across the studio until his microphone got turned on! The screen wasn't advancing cuz he didn't have the gizmo, and was telling the behind the scenes folks when to advance and they were having trouble doing it quickly enough. I know it deosn't sound very funny written out like that but I thought it was hilarious.

Spent most of the day at Mom and Dick's. Uncle Carl was there helping with some plumbing issue, not sure exactly what it was that was wrong but it got fixed so all is well. I got Mom's new phone activated and most of the info transferred from the old one to the new one, and the new one settings set to be as much like the old one as possible. She already had a google account, and I got her set up so her photos will back up automatically (she is forever "losing" pics, at least now I will be able to "find" them for her). Not sure why her contacts didn't move over, will have to keep working on that detail. The funniest part was getting her into her phone account on line and starting to set up an automatic payment plan. She discovered the automatic payment would cost a couple dollars a month more than buying the cards, so she won't do it! No amount of talking about the cost of driving to the store (she won't buy the cards online) and the time spent standing in line and putting the card numbers into the phone, etc, is worth more than the couple dollars extra for the autopay, but she won't have any of it. It's a good thing I love her cuz she drives me crazy sometimes!

Chi--I'm not judging, I'm curious, what is a Brazilian Blowout keratin treatment? It sounds exotic. Wow, reading on it's sounding more torturous than pleasant. Wow, all that food from a real asian restaurant! I love jasmine tea and try to keep some loose leaf jasmine tea in the house. Is Almond Milk really so much better than cow's milk? Sometimes I'm afraid to admit how much I like cow's milk to drink and cream in my coffee. And now my favorite seasonal treat is available--Egg Nog!

    Dances with Hornets' DOTD:

    For the Party:

    EARL GREY–BOURBON PUNCH

    INGREDIENTS

1/4 cup loose Earl Grey tea or 4 bags
    1/2 cup honey
    4 sprigs thyme
2 sprigs rosemary, plus more for garnish
    1 cup fresh lemon juice
    1 1/2 cups bourbon
    1/2 cup Cognac or brandy
1 teaspoon orange or regular bitters
Ice ring and lemon wheels (for serving)

    PREPARATION

Combine tea and 1 1/4 cups boiling water in a heatproof bowl. Let steep 5 minutes, then strain through a fine-mesh sieve into a measuring glass (you should have 1 cup). Let cool.
Meanwhile, bring honey, thyme, 2 rosemary sprigs, and 1/2 cup water to a gentle simmer over medium heat, stirring to combine. Let cool; discard herbs.
Combine tea, honey syrup, lemon juice, bourbon, Cognac, and bitters in a large pitcher or punch bowl. Add 2 cups ice and stir until ice is melted and punch is very cold.
Serve punch in tumblers filled with ice, garnished with rosemary sprigs and lemon wheels.
    Do Ahead
Syrup and tea can be made 3 days ahead; cover separately and chill. Punch can be made 1 day ahead; cover and chill.

    The Aperitif

    DIPLOMAT COCKTAIL

    1 1/2 oz. dry vermouth
    1 1/2 oz. sweet vermouth
    1 dash maraschino liqueur
    1 dash Angostura bitters
    Tools: mixing glass, barspoon, strainer
    Glass: cocktail
    Garnish: maraschino cherry

Combine ingredients in a mixing glass with ice. Stir and strain into a chilled cocktail glass. Garnish.

    The Digestif

    Cynar

For something slightly easier to take, try Cynar. Another ancient Italian amaro, it is flavored by a baker's dozen of secret ingredients, the most famous being artichoke. (How do we know this? There's a big artichoke on the label.) Cynar is milder and sweeter than Fernet, and lower in proof. Try it neat, or over a single rock with a twist of orange.

The above drinks, like most digestifs, are best enjoyed at leisure. Sip them; don't slam them back. An exception to this rule is my favorite digestif, Underberg Bitters. Underberg is a complex elixir that has been made in Germany for the past century and half. It is sold in tiny, 20ml single-serving bottles, making it easy to smuggle a sample into any Thanksgiving meal. The language on the small label expressly instructs that it be downed in one go. Take the advice. Your insides will thank you.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING y'all!  Now miss Goldie.....  It's just that Cammi and I sort of have this gregarious reputation which somehow transfers our actions and intentions into something entirely inappropriate for whichever mood we are in....  (That reminds me of letters I used to write my Mom and Dad....  you know.... before computers and phones.... etc.....  WELL, I would use words that probably didn't exist!  They didn't mean anything but reading this mish-mosh of meaningless babble was just so funny to us! And the time I wrote them about all of us women being pregnant, and we had no clue who the fathers were, or where we were going to live after our twins were born, because our Husbands had left us after the flood!)

Cammi, don't even try and answer, or figure it out... cause even I don't know what I just said.

See now, you goils.... I am 80...  You just dropped your phone?  Or I-pad?  Hah...  But Cammi is even older... I think she is 90 or somewhere around there...  But now you know just how much fun you can have when you reach out age... ages.....  See, no-one listens to us anymore...  and we don't care...  We just look at them like....  "Are you nuts?"

Okay now....  I had better go dust off the Turkey, and see what I can do with the thing....  Yes... I'm still cooking Thanksgiving Dinner, for us & a couple of my Daughter's friends.....  Been doin' this for 60 years now...  Just like my Grandma and my Mom did.  We HAVE to do it...  we loved to do it, and as long as I can, by golly, I'll do it!

    Love you guys! xoxo  Ed

    ChiSandy,

Yeah we are paying for everything, Kevin and I, so the dresses are not happening. lol! With this and the wedding it's feeling overwhelming, but I don't want to put it off. This is what I've always wanted and especially since the proposal.

Hopefully you are right about the pictures, my mom didn't feel it darkened outside, but it could have been the light thing. Just thinking of it makes me queezy. Ugh.

I know there was a question on Personal Attendants. I'm not really sure what the difference is except helping to prepare and take care of other things I guess. In essence they really do end up being the same thing, but it's this weird position to fill, I guess. Generally the PAs won't wear a dress to match, but bah...doing what I want.

I'm so tired today and heartburn is off and on awful, but constipation is better...nausea worse. Trying to find balance, but feeling like I just want to do long term once the weekly taxol starts. For many reasons, but I just feel it's a lot of pressure.

It was my 40th birthday yesterday and we had a head shaving party as my hair was definitely coming out more in the morning, so I wanted to get ahead of it. My daughter did watch and I gave her the option. I just didn't want to surprise her with a bald head.

Well I need a nap I think, so I'll be back later. :D

Goldie, when I took that Jeep ride in 1998 from our hotel in Gilbert to the desert, we were going so fast and my shoulder-length hair was whipping around every which way. When we got back to the hotel, I found that the ends were so tangled & knotted that I couldn't brush through—had to use fingers and the widest detangling comb the gift shop had. Even so, as careful as I was, I had multiple small breakages. My hairstylist back home kept cutting aff the split ends, but I ended up losing about 4" off the bottom.

Kim, a Brazilian Blowout is the trademark name for a form of keratin straightening treatment. Unlike Japanese thermal straightening (which is chemical and, like a perm, alters the molecular structure of the hair shaft), a keratin treatment deposits liquid keratin (the protein of which hair is composed) on to the freshly-shampooed wet hair shaft. A flatiron is used to work the keratin into the hair's cuticle, which is an outer layer of what looks like overlapping shingles under magnification. A naturally straight hair will have a smooth cuticle but a frizzy one will have the shingles splayed out like the branches of a Christmas tree. Ironing on the liquid keratin smooths the shingles and at the same time seals the cuticle. Then the hair is blown dry. With the Brazilian Blowout treatment, the hair is washed and conditioned again but with shampoo & conditioner that is sodium chloride-and-sulfate free, and then styled as usual. Because the treatment is by then “fully-set," you can (theoretically) put your hair up, tie it back, sweat (in moderation), and even wash it again the next day.

Rival treatments skip that final shampoo, so the hair remains malleable for at least the next 72 if not 96 hours; so no barrettes, clips, ponytails, sweating or otherwise getting your hair wet until it has fully “taken." This can be a problem if you get caught in rain or snow; and wind can also cause tangles because the cuticle isn't completely sealed yet. The Brazilian takes longer and costs a bit more, but lasts 3-4 months, as opposed to anywhere from 6 weeks-3 months for the simpler treatment. The downside to both is that heating the keratin can release fumes that are akin to formaldehyde, a bit more so for the Brazilian. But powerful ventilation, eye protection, and for the stylist, a face mask because of repeated exposure, mitigate that. The problem with sweating is that sweat contains sodium chloride, which can partially dissolve the keratin. So I get the Brazilian so I can put my hair up off my neck when sleeping or exercising in the days before I first shampoo it myself. (I also keep the bedroom cool for good measure). With the other treatment, you run the risk of kinking the hair with clips, barrettes or elastics in those first 3-4 days. All you can do is use a silk scarf to loosely tie it back—but the scarf is likely to slip off. They even suggest sleeping in a silk satin pillowcase to reduce friction—but that doesn't “breathe" like cotton and can actually make the scalp perspire.

With either treatment I have to be very careful that the shampoo and conditioner I use have neither sulfates nor sodium chloride. A lot of “sulfate-free” shampoos, even some advertised as safe for keratin-treated hair or (even containing keratin), still have sodium chloride. I read labels very carefully and never use free hotel shampoo unless I have gone online to check the ingredients. It can be a PITA to bring my own in travel bottles (or buy travel-size “safe” shampoos), but it’s worth it

Good Morning, Loungettes! Happy Day after Official Turkey Day! Today is Turkey day for me and Sadie and Mom and Dick. Going to spend the day with them, hopefully actually get to visit a bit today. I don't think there will be any repair work or such going on today. Not that it really matters, I'm glad to see them actually asking for help with things rather than trying to do them all by themselves. I got a lot of teaching prep work done and quite a bit of kitchen work and even some laundry done yesterday, so I am entitled to taking today off without any guilt at all.

Chevy--wow, you have some imagination! I'm dying to hear more about the women who were pregnant, married but abandoned, and not knowing who the father is! Talk about a soap opera! 80 years old and still cooking Thanksgiving Dinner doesn't surprise me in the least. I'll be watching my Mom do that today and she's 80! More power to you for keeping up with it, I say. As long as you enjoy doing it, go for it, but don't be shy about farming out a few steps or some of the peripheral food items so you have more time to visit with the fam.

    Teka--Happy Thanksgiving to you, too!

Karen--I was the one who asked about Personal Attendants. Sounds like the kind of things a wedding planner would do, or arrange to have done. I think it's great that you are including them in the ceremony! I'm sorry the nausea and heartburn are being problematic, and the fatigue. And what a way to celebrate your 40th birthday! I know it feels terribly pressured right now. I wish I knew a way to make it better.

Chi--Wow, that Brazilian Blowout is quite the process! I bet it looks wonderful when it's done. I have this rather funny mental picture of someone walking around with hair that looks like it has invisible barrettes in it from not waiting long enough for the process to fully set. After going through all that work I'd be really careful about reading shampoo and conditioner labels, too. Carrying your own would be worth the trouble.

NM, funny about "the ways" elderly can be. Your mom and paying the phone. My MIL won't put a bill in her mailbox, she has to take it right to the post office.

ED, you are not 80 up in dis lounge! Nuh uh, I won't have it. My favorite word and it's one of Cami's, is reCOCKulous!

Karen, what do you mean by doing long term when weekly Taxol starts. Sorry you are feeling so yucky. Just hang in there, I think you end up feeling better in a few days, right? I spent my 50th getting chemo, not much of birthday gift, is it?

Sandy, is that an all day ordeal when you get all of that done to your hair?

Just pulled a breakfast casserole out of the oven. Then I need to work on getting the turkey in there next!

Happy Birthday Karen. They made a mistake on your cake and put Judy. I didn't want to wait for them to change it. Cake is cake right?

Thank you for the cake Goldie! :D It's awesome! I mean long term disability. It is really starting to feel overwhelming, especially with all the financial stuff and you guys know. I feel like I just need to get through this and figure it out later. But Bankruptcy is looking more and more like a necessity already, which really blows, but what can you do? We live pay check to pay check and make too much for financial assistance.

You would think this stuff would be enough. Oh well.

We had a great birthday, even though it was my tired days. And had a quiet family night and then head shaving.

    NM,

Okay, I tried to find the question again and I couldn't find it. So frustrating. Yeah I don't really know all the ins and outs, just what I have seen..lol! So confusing. Luckily, most of this wedding stuff was already paid for or free from family (meaning donating a dish toward the reception or their kids used wedding decorations). Has made this process easier somewhat. I appreciate the well wishes. Part of my feelings besides genuine heart burn and constipation, may be shaving my head and fear of doing too much and making things worse. I'm sure a lot of it is in my head.

    ChiSandy,

Thanks for the new 25...that would be great. ;)

My plan for next week is to go over all the financial stuff during my lunch breaks and really try to figure out the best course of action. My work is also super stressful and yet another reason probably not a good idea to be there during busy season besides how I'm feeling.

And now part of me would like a cocktail by the following weekend when I know I'll be feeling better. lol!

I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving! :D

All cooking stories sound awesome. I can't wait for next year when I can do my second thanksgiving ever...cooking for it. I did it for the first time last year for just the fiance and I...full spread like we had 6 or more. It was a fun stress that I would love to repeat. Maybe I can figure out the christmas treats on my good week next month. :)

Oh chit it's me, remember I don't think I've ever missed so much since I started. well u goils are super busy and that's all good.

Karen u look adorable in both pictures, really and I lubs the pics of ur bridesmaids pretty women and great dresses. I'm really glad uhave this to look forward to. My DD is having a hell of time too, they're stopping the last treatment for the "red devil" and waiting 2 weeks to start the taxol and stopping all the meds for steroids too <just the bag they'll continue> her feet are so red she can barely walk, but plus no sleep and sick all the time. Like you, I tell her about u so she knows she's not alone. She gets a little manic on the steroids so they are cutting them down a lot. I think u gals are 2 treatments away from each other.

U know everyone even tho I'm not here ur in my prayers and thought everyday. Work has been so very busy. I was taking calls this week til 11PM a couple of nites and the guys went out on the calls after I told them u'd better go, easy for me to say, but they went and were happy with the results..

CHEVY ha h now u can't blackmail me anymore, it's all out in the open <well almost> about our life of me degrading myself, yes me, u had already been doing that way before me and pretty much stayed at that level for many years hey u were used to it. But now look, u can make turkey, of course stuffing it is ur highlight. I've never made one, my hands are still part of my beauty, yours are shot anyway, after so many years on a pole. Except for being in a room with Betty White u are the oldest one in any place u visit.

Jazzy is in TX now hope she's having good time.

Lori u seem like things are going along----did u get any results yet??? Fun pics Lori.

NM u've been busy with ur mom and Dick, I hope u helped her with her computer. When I did get mine about 7 yrs ago I actually set it up myself, now I can't figure anything out myself either Joey or Dan has to do things for me and it still doesn't make sense to me.

Teka I hope ur Day was great.

Ours was totally quiet, but that's fine with me, I went last Saturday, so it's all good. I even walk a little without my walker now, slowly but what else is new.

Jodie was here a little bit yesterday, I like to give my girls a little Christmas top on TG so they can wear til Christmas, and even after both just has snowmen nd snowflakes, just little different design and color with matching earrings. I've been doing this forever nd it's just fun for me, I gave Joey a small lite up guardian angel, which he liked. I give my grandaughter a little extra for Christmas, she'll be 17 soon so she likes actual clothes.

Karen I hope u have decent week=end and do whatever makes u feel good.

And I give thanks for all u gals, u all mean so much to me, I can never say that enuff. Oh and another Leslieism I will never do that, but I think I told you yea she's given in to some Willie, I always say never say never. She's so much nicer then. LOL

I've been on here so long, my phone has been going during this nd the guys are taking this weekend off, but the phones aren't, so if I missed anyone I have no idea what I'm doing, just like Chevy, she never knows what she's doing.

    LUBS U ALL

Good Morning, Loungettes! Happy Saturday! Bright and sunny here, nice breeze, towels I washed and hung out a couple of hours ago are almost dry already. Spent the ayem going through my e-mails and getting that caught up and cleaned out. I entered a sweepstakes for a collection of sci-fi books and didn't notice in the fine print that I was also agreeing to sign up for a whole bunch of author's mailing lists. So I've gotten lots and lots of e-mails, which is a bit of a drag to go through, but I've also scored a couple dozen free e-books. I'll check out the newsletter e-mails as they come through and start weeding out the authors I don't care for, and hopefully find a couple new ones to follow.

Had a pretty nice Thanksgiving Dinner and visit with Mom and Dick yesterday, but boy can I see the changes in both of them. And I can see that I'm going to end up in the middle of some fun stuff. Dick wants me to help him convince my Mom to check with the Veteran's Association and see if she is eligible for any survivors benefits based on Dad's service. Dick thinks she's entitled to a pension or something. He wants to her to get set up with that, and then he will set things up so that his estate continues to pay half the bills as long as she lives in the house after he dies. The life tenancy thing was set up years and years ago, and Mom, in her usual fashion has always said that she's not sure she could afford to live there after Dick dies. Dad left Mom with multiple accounts, and she only takes the money she HAS to take from them, and puts most of that money into CDs or other investments. Mom is starting to get frustrated with Dick's neediness at times and with the house not being totally finished (still some painting and final trim work to do in some places). Dick keeps saying he's going to do it, but he really can't anymore, and won't ask anyone for help or hire anyone. Mom says she's spent her entire life living in unfinished houses and wants to live in a finished one before she dies. And she wants to have a dedicated space for crafts and sewing so she can work on projects and finish them. Right now her craft and sewing stuff is in a corner of the living room. And every time she starts to work on a craft or do some sewing Dick interrupts and needs help with something, and he has a very, very hard time with waiting, it makes him rather angry (typical of early to middle stage dementia). He really can't be left alone so that Mom can take a trip and get a break, and she doesn't want to talk to his kids about his memory issues given that their mother, who was diagnosed with Alzheimer's years ago, is now in Hospice care with a 1 to 3 month prognosis. Mom also doesn't think any of his kids have noticed Dick's mental decline. What's really scary is that I can see some mental decline in Mom, especially getting dinner ready yesterday. She kept losing track of what she was doing and what needed to be done next. Of course, she was up early after a long day the day before and was a bit tired, and more than a bit irritated with Dick, so I'm sure that was part of it all, but still, she is 80 years old.

Goldie--It is funny how people get in their ways. It just occured to me that when Mom buys a minutes card she pays taxes, I'm going to figure out how much that is and compare to the auto refill rate, which I think will equal, pretty darn closely, the cost of a card plus taxes. That's a great cake, where on earth did you find it? Or did you make it yourself???? Meet you at the swim up bar!

Karen--Make sure to make an appointment to talk with a social worker at the center where you get chemo. There are a million programs out there for people getting chemo that provide financial assistance in different ways, and many people who qualify for assistance never learn about it. It is a financial stressor, going through treatment, and getting hooked up with any and all the help you can will make a difference. But sometimes you have to dig a little deeper than the routine stuff people think of, and the social worker will have that info. Many cancer related assistance programs do not have financial qualifications attached to them.

Cammy--So sorry to hear treatment is being so hard on Leslie. I'm glad they are noticing and making adjustments for her. And I did get Mom's phone set up for her, and it seems to be going ok, except that she is having to put in her contacts one at a time. I cannot figure why they didn't transfer, but at least she still has the old phone and can put in a few every day until she gets it caught up!

Teka--good for you getting those cards in the mail!

You guys I DID it!  And thinking of you all at the same time...  Wish I could have you all over for Thanksgiving....

It's just that it gets frantic when everyone arrives... Hah!  I mean my Daughter, her crazy-wild friend, and her X-boyfriend who she has known since high-school...  But we love them all.

They all brought something, like I didn't have enough to begin with!  But they always want to help...  Both friends lost their Mom's a few years ago, so I, of course, am their "other Mother"...  But I had a lot of help, but glad when they all left, and I was alone, to just sit on the couch and think of the day....

GOD I have so much dressing left...  Even though I gave them all big containers of dinner & pie to take home..!  I have to freeze some of the Turkey... and broth, AND gravy!

Mainer...  I hear what you are saying... about your Mom and Dad...  I am 80, and I try and not worry about my DH...  about how "things" just slip his mind...  And when I see how slow he is walking, or just "looking around" I feel so bad!  Thank GOD I don't feel old...

If your parents have things in order, like POA's and finances, and their kids ON their bank accounts, that would help, in case things happen...Even our house is in our Dauthter's names...  so in case something happens, and we have to move, they can sell it, and our expenses are paid .  I even stopped the auto-pay accounts so the payments are not still taken out if I am gone!  I mean I could be paying gas & lights long after we are gone... Hah!

We walked around Colorado Mills shopping center yesterday...  with my cane...  Hadn't done that since they shut down 6 months ago, due to hail damage!  So I was so happy we could both DO that!  1/2 the stores are not open yet, but we just like to walk around, and see what's going on....

Getting older is just a pain in the ass...  I don't like to see my Hubby slowing down...  I help him all the time...  like with the micro-wave, Toaster-oven... and I do all the driving.... got rid of his old car, for lots of reasons....

During our 60 married years together, you go through some ROUGH times...  but looking back, I think it just brings the both of us closer together, and me more willing to do every thing for him!  I just hope, if something happens, it doesn't make me so I can't help him out....  We have such a beautiful life together... everything we want and need, and I DO thank God every day for what we have...

Now miss Cammi, you little shit....  I would take care of you too...  Somehow, you and I are just alike... I mean I probably have more gorgousness than maybe you, but you have more smarts... well maybe not....  But we just have so much fun with each other!   Your hands????  What does that have to do with anything?  Do you have those stupid looking freckles and whatever those are on your hands?  Or on other places of your body???  WTH???

You had better still be wearing make-up and doing your hair!  We ain't never too old for that stuff...  And don't go anywhere without it!  Am I the only one my age that still colors their hair?

See, I think if we have a mission... or someone to take care of, it helps us stay younger....  We need to go on, for "them"....

So that's all for this morning girls....  It's just a pleasure reading what y'all have to say...  You too little miss Goldie! xoxoxo

Good Morning, Loungettes! Happy Sunday Funday! Raining here, with a few snowflakes mixed in for fun. I was hoping for another sunny, breezy day so I could wash and hang out the comforter and blanket. I got the sheets and pillows and pillow cases done yesterday as well as towels and work clothes. So I'm in good shape laundry-wise anyway. Now to get all those clean clothes folded, hung up, and put away! Good project for today, I think. Sadie has decided that her morning bathroom time is going to be 5 ayem. For the last 3 days she's gotten me up at 5 to let her out, then we go back to bed and snuggle and snooze until I feel ready to get up. I'm not sure why 5 ayem is the magic hour all of a sudden, but there it is! And Sadie is so good about getting me out of bed, if I don't get up she starts pushing things off the nightstand with her nose, she knows I can not stand that and I will jump up to get her to stop doing that. But she does give me 2 or 3 tries with nudges, barks, and door scratches before she does that. Oh, well, it doesn't hurt me to get up and let her out. I just think it does.

Chevy--it can get wild and wooly when a bunch of people, especially family, get together. And having too much food seems to be a part of the experience, too. As is the relief when quiet reigns again. But it does make for good days and pleasant memories. And leftovers. Mom and Dick do have the finances pretty well in hand, and have ever since Mom moved in with him. His kids are on his accounts, my brother and I are on Mom's accounts. Living Wills and POA's have been done, I have been talking with Mom about taking the next step of setting up Durable Powers of Attorney so that there is a designated person with authority to handle affairs after death and before the will is probated, since regular Powers of Attorney for Finances and Healthcare end at the moment of death. Both have estate wills in place that are very detailed and complete, as they both have specific things to got to their own kids and to prevent any confusion and possible fighting/nastiness after one or both of them die. I've been talking to Mom about changing the Living Will a bit, right now each of them is named as primary decision maker for the other, but Dick isn't understanding Mom's not wanting to go to the ER for every little ache and pain, and not taking any tests unless that test is totally needed to determine a course of treatment. Dick has more of a "do everything possible" mindset. And he's having trouble comprehending what doctors are telling him, even for his own care now. Mom currently lists me as second to make health care decision for her, she wants me to be first, but she keeps putting off doing the form, mostly cuz she doesn't want Dick to know cuz it would upset him that Mom doesn't think he can think clearly enough to do the job. Thank God Dick can still drive locally, he likes to go to the hardware store or something just about every day, Mom prefers to stay home and work on things there and go out every few days. Once Dick can't drive that is going to make Mom crazy, having to drive him and losing those moments of time to herself to work on projects and sewing. But it is really hard to see a man who ran his own successful real estate and insurance company for years and years, who rebuilt and flew a float plane for years now struggle to turn off an alarm or answer a Jitterbug phone. He turned all the financial management of the household over to Mom months ago cuz he can't manage it any more. Good for you for getting out and walking around the Mall! I've been telling myself I need to get back to walking for exercise again, and keep not doing it. Got to get my act together on that one.

Teka, I didn't do any Black Friday either, but I also don't cards in the mail either!

NM, your poor mom not ever living in a "finished" home. Hopefully Dick's kids will see his decline. Glad you recognize it in both of them. Sounds like they have most things in order. I have some pretty amazing neighbors that are in their 80's. I find it amazing how Sadie knows so much. She is one smart cookie.

Wow ED, how many people did you have and how much did you cook? To have enough to send home and freeze! Glad you don't "feel" old, cuz you certainly don't look it! You and your hubby have a wonderful relationship. I so enjoyed reading your post. I'm not 80, but do color my hair. My hands look like someone around 100 years old!

    Yummy breakfast Teka!

Company is gone! Leaving Tuesday for Laughlin for a few days then on to CA.
