how about drinking?

Tipsy Drinkerton here. Three performances down, one to go. Bob and 8 friends came last night, 6 of whom joined us for a late tapas dinner after the show. Drinks were sangria rosado, Juve y Camps cava & rosado cava. Tonight was the fullest house, and by far the most enthusiastic--there was an ABA reception beforehand and they were quite well-lubricated by curtain time. The show took 5 min. longer just to accommodate the laughs after the jokes. Opening night one of the former head writers (for whom we named an award for best production number) came up to me at the after-party and lamented that he didn't hear my guitar playing--I told him it's been three years since we'd written a scene requiring it. Then he asked if I was even in the show this year! Guess that was a compliment, as I was so deeply in character as to be unrecognizable.

Tonight we went to a local karaoke bar for the after-party, which was very noisy and filled with regulars (mostly millennials doing hip-hop off-key)--had a Pinot Noir (bar brand) and a Revolution Anti-Hero IPA. Sang backup on two numbers, and then left about midnight to avoid frying my pipes--need 'em for one more performance tomorrow, as well as our seniors show at the neighborhood armory next Fri. My next-door neighbor & I will be doing it, and he will be mostly doing originals and poetry (I hope he doesn't put the audience to sleep). So all week I'm gonna need to teach him holiday songs & standards for the duet portion of the concert.

Today, based at the Hilton & Towers (you might know it as the Conrad Hilton, of 1968 Dem.Convention riots fame), was lovely. Weather was goregeous, in the high 50s & sunny, no wind. Cabbed it to the new Apple Store on the Riverwalk, where I got a travel charger for my Apple watch and some replacement USB-C cables for my computer's AC adaptor--my cat trashed one, thinking it was a chew toy. I also got a broken nail repaired in the on-site salon. Walked back to the hotel, stopping midway only for a cappuccino & croissant.

Good Morning, Loungettes!Happy Sunday Funday! Except that I got lazy yesterday and did nothing but play on the computer until time to get ready for the funeral. So today I have to do some housework, especially getting the fridge cleaned out. And the garbage taken out of the garage and put in the dumpster. It's convenient to be cleaning and be able to chuck the trash bags down the stairs to the garage, but then I need to remember to take them the next step and get them into the dumpster, and when it's as cold as it has been that is NOTa happy chore! So I need to establish a new habit of taking at least one bag/box/whatever out to the dumpster every time I leave the house. Shouldn't be too hard a habit to develop, right?

In the computer playing around yesterday I got my OneNote back to the way it used to work and all the files re-loaded, I'm very happy with that.

Miss Sadie has taken advantage of me leaving the bedroom door open to make a nest in the as yet unmade bed and go back to sleep. That dog truly loves her comfort, and she looks so warm and relaxed. One of these mornings I'm going to get a pic of her doing this, but usually she gets out of bed when she hears me coming down the hallway. And today I didn't have the phone in myhand to snap a photo. I'll keep trying.

Goldie--Yup, the "S" word, but none of it stuck, so no problems, yet! Hope you are having a great trip!

    Illi--nice martini!

Jazzy--glad the dexa is showing no progression. Osteoporosis is not fun, and it would be very good to avoid that if at all possible. Praying for your BFF, that surgery is easy and simple and the pathology reports are favorable. I do remember that shell shocked feeling. It will be better once a treatment plan is in place.

Chi--I am so glad the show is going well! Funny how the former writer didn't even recognize you, I guess that is quite the compliment. Sounds like the after parties are great fun.

Good morning ladies- checking in here on the Sunday Funday and hope everyone is having a great first weekend of December. Time goes so fast this time of the year, first it's Labor Day and boom, it's Xmas! Fortunately for me, December tends to be a time of more quieting down than for me. I have a couple nice get togethers planned the next few weeks, then I will be off to the hot springs for Xmas weekend for my usual escape. I was unable to go last year due to a bad virus and not fun go live with a project I was doing then, and looking forward it this time around.

I had a good day of self care yesterday, starting with the free sat morning yoga class. The regular teacher is back and liked her (she looks familiar so I have seen her at some other yoga place here) and will go to that as I can on sat morning, but also going to check out the other new yoga studio satellite here with a studio I know and that has some great teachers too. Then after a few morning errands I was off to the spa!

Oh and did I ever need that. My body was feeling a tad beat up after a busy month with the music performance, travel, etc. That massage really helped to work out a stiff and sore body, including a neck issue that arose this week. Then a nice facial and hot oil hair treatment to follow to moisture my face and hair. I slept with the oil in my hair to let the treatment soak over night and will rinse it out today. Jazzy got a tune up yesterday!

NM- I have read varying things about how long it takes to create a habit. Anywhere from a few weeks to a few months. Maybe you need to create a routine where the bag is ready to go the night before and by the door as you leave each morning? I think you can easily create the habit with this and keep filling up that dumpster and then continue to empty it when full. De-cluttering to me is a constant process as we don't realize we often bring in more regularly than we remove things.

Glad you had a quiet day at home to work on the computer and have some time with Sadie (I would love to see a pic of her sometime....)

Goldie- I hope your time with family is good and that you have more fun in Laughlin!

Chi- great to hear your performance is going well! Can't wait to see the clips on YouTube. I am hoping to have a video soon to share here of our gig in November (they had a videographer tape some of our show as well).

Ill- that margarita sounded tasty! I had a couple stellar margs in Texas when I was there. I am on the wagon right now as I drank WAY more than I normally do and giving my liver a break. My last drink was a delicious bloody Mary at brunch last Sunday. I have a biz dinner this coming week and expect to imbibe with some wine with my colleague who is in town over dinner. After a 10 day break, I will be ready again!

Dara- what are you up to girlfriend?

Mema- thinking of you and we are here when you get your next test results and have your plans together.

We love you sister and wishing you better days Heart

Cami- I know you are busy with work, Joey and all the rest. I hope Leslie is coping okay through the chemo.....

Where is Genny? I want to see some pictures of Anorable this holiday season

Karen- how are you doing this weekend? Your DD is so adorable and such pretty hair. I hope you have good cuddle time together.

Time to get to some more house things, Xmas cards and a trip to da pool later today. Wishing everyone a good start to the first FULL week of December too!

Good Morning, Loungettes! Happy Monday Monkey Day! I'd say it's back to work day, but Sadie and I got a lot of work done yesterday so it feels less like back to work and more like workday again. Fridge is cleaned out, garage garbage moved to the dumpster, a bunch of clothes put away, broke the mob and bucket washing the living room floor (it was one of those fancy spin mop/bucket with attached spinner thingies), went online and ordered a new, old-fashioned, much cheaper mop to use with my Dollar Store bucket going forward. Sadie is still very, very helpful when I am washing the floor, she checks out every inch looking for places I missed, and leaving her mark of approval, which was muddy pawprints yesterday. I think I washed part of the floor 3 times before I got smart and stopped letter her out to get muddy feed until after the floor dried!

Here's a couple pics of Silly Sadie:

Jazzy--A spa weekend for Christmas sounds heavenly! I will have to try that some year. The oil treatment sounds decadent, especially leaving it in your hair overnight. What kind of oil do you use? Establishing a habit can take a long time for me, unless it's one that really fits my routine. One thing I am doing is putting trash bags that have wet stuff in them in a bucket at the top of the steps to the garage, the idea being to take that bag down stairs on the way to work, and take it right to the dumpster as I open the garage door, which currently has to be opened manually. It's a start, anyway.

    Lit Teetotalar's DOTD:

    White Christmas Mojito.

    Ingredients

    • juice of 1 lime
    • 8 leaves mint
    • 1 tablespoon sugar
    • 2 tablespoons white rum
    • 1 tablespoon coconut rum
    • 1/4 cup canned coconut milk
    • sparkling water for topping
    • pomegranate arils for serving

    Instructions

    1. In a glass, muddle the lime juice, sugar and mint leaves until the leaves have broken down. Fill the glass half way with ice.
    2. In a blender, combine the white rum, coconut rum, and coconut milk and pulse until smooth. Pour over the ice and stir to combine. Top with sparkling water, mint and pomegranate. Drink!

Good morning friends- quick hello before I get to my busy day. Did you all see the super moon from where you live last night? I missed it Sat night, but saw it last night and so big and bright. One of my yoga teachers always says the full moon is a strong time for women to manifest things (including a day or two before or after), so go for it if there is something you are wanting ladies. I went out and put a couple intentions out to la luna last night. Also got another swim in yesterday and hope to get back to 3X again this week (still pushing to loose my final 15 lbs....)

Productive day at home yesterday and got some more Xmas decorations out (I decorate pretty minimally for the holiday, no tree, etc.) The most fun was going through my Xmas CDS and going to make a plan to rotate them through and listen to 5 at a time. I have 45 of them, including a couple double CDS so I will do this when I am home. I am also going to weed out some of the ones I don't want (already see a few) and take those to donation this week as part of my ongoing purging process. A lot of my Xmas CDs are jazz ones, but know that does not surprise you either.

Got the cleaning company coming today and biz calls so my day will be full. The news says cold front is coming. Our November here was the warmest on record......

NM- going somewhere else for the holidays is a cool experience. I have been doing the hot springs trips and other locations in the SW for the holidays for awhile, when I don't see family. One of my bucket list items is to spend Xmas in another country sometime. I spent Thanksgiving in Venezuela once in my 20s when I was on vacation there that week with a couple friends. I always thought it would be cool to spend Xmas somewhere in South America or Europe. Do something fun for yourself sometime, even if you go somewhere around where you live and take Miss Sadie.

I love the pics of her BTW, what a doll she is and love the group photo with her at work. She is a good sport! Do you buy her special treats for Xmas?

Chi- how did your performance finish up yesterday? I bet you will be tired for a few days after all that. Hope the final ones went well.

Hope everyone has a great start to the week!

Boy I have missed a lot of posts!

    NM,

Yes, based on definition it looks like it is a perfectly acceptable word, but makes one feel a little wary. The book is basically a "sequel" to the first one and then I will be writing something new when I'm done with this one. I just need to get focused. It's a murder thriller type book. The first one I started writing in 2010 and finally published this year. The second I'm hoping to publish next year.

I just want to rub that puppy belly...such a cute picture!

    Jazzy,

That's what I was doing yesterday. Cookies, ornament making and tree decorating. :) i hit my peak energy for a few days. Such a fun time of year. Here are some fun pictures of said projects. :) We did decide against the big tree this year due to everything going on.

Best wishes to your BFF. Hope her surgery goes well!

    Goldie,

Thank you so much on her hair. I love trying new hairdos. We are going to try a "tree" for Christmas. I'll post it ... if I get it to work. lol

    ChiSandy,

Though Chicago is only about a 5 hour drive for me, I wouldn't have been able to do it this time, but I hope it went well and maybe in the future when all of this done I'll get to catch a show you are doing! :D

Okay I'm in the middle of my infusion right now, while my dear and wonderful fiance watches movies on the IPAD. :D

    Talk to you all soon!

The show went very well. Already getting withdrawal symptoms! (Fortunately, I have other performance opportunities, but they're not the same thing). As I posted in another thread, there was a huge surprise sat. night. After the curtain call but before the group encore, a young man bounded onstage, got down on one knee, pulled out a diamond ring and proposed to his girlfriend (a cast member). Fortunately, she said yes! Only the producer knew about it in advance.

Hope your infusion goes uneventfully, Karen!

    Kim, what an adorable pooch!

Gordy won't be joining us for New Year's--he will be down in Houston with his main squeeze and her family. Looks like this could be getting very serious!

Picked some herbs this morning--the wind is picking up, and our current 64F is about to drop like a rock after sunset, down to freezing by morning--and we won't even get above 30 for the rest of the week...or two...or three. Snow Thurs. or Fri. too. Going out to grocery-shop now while I can.

ChiSandy- good to hear! Hope you can relax and glad the opportunity was such a good one for you!

That is cool about the young man proposing to the woman in the cast. I saw something similar on a cruise one time and we all loved it. So fun to be a witness to that type of thing, the joy is contagious for anyone who sees that!

Get some nice rest now friend Heart

Good Morning, Loungettes! Happy Twofer Tuesday! How is everyone doing this fine, cold ayem? The weather guessers are predicting rain for this peeyem. Still better than the white stuff! Pretty uneventful day at work yesterday. Morning meeting, got to see and chat with some people I haven't seen in a while. Productivity expectations are still pretty high despite a bit of a drop in census, which is typical for this time of year. Starting to see lots of Christmas lights out now, the one and only good thing about it getting dark so early is getting to see the lights on the drive home. Can't wait to see Sadie playing in the first snow of the season, though.

Jazzy--I did see that moon, talk about BIG! Sounds like your day was very productive. I will probably experiment with going away for Christmas after Mom and Dick pass on. Only going to get a few more with them, I think, so going to prioritize them for the next few years. I'll have time later to do that. Sadie is a good sport, mostly. She gets special treats when we celebrate Christmas, usually a bone or something to chew on while we are eating. Her all-time favorite treat is a good bely rub, though.

Karen--I can understand how the word generates some uneasy feelings. And feelings don't always respond to logical explanations. I am amazed that you have written a book, actually more than one book! Good for you! Beautiful holiday pics! Looks like you are all having a good time.

Chi--Oh, my, what a wonderful surprise for the cast member! Still picking herbs? Wow. I could probably chip some out of the ice ball that the pot has become, but fresh? Nope!

    Berry Merry Christmas Cocktail

    Ingredients

    • 1 shot vodka
    • 1 shot Chambord
    • ½ shot Lemoncello
    • ¼ shot Grenedine
    • Club soda*

    Instructions

    1. Combine vodka, Chambord, Lemoncello, Grenedine and 1 shot of club soda in cocktail shaker filled with ice. Shake and strain into chilled martini glass.

If you'd like to have this drink in a tall glass on the rock, just shake the booze together in a shaker, pour over a glass filled with ice and top off with club soda.

Good Morning Ladies, wow have I missed a lot. These days seem to be flying by.

Karen I;m so glad to hear u r not working for now. It's so much better to have time with ur precious DD, she is such a cutie and a great age to make u feel better. Your working hard enough for the holidays nd thru chemo---don 't ever feel any type of guilt for taking care of urself. And ur the best judge.

SusyQ have u heard anything yet---always sending prayers.

Lori u and Jazzy have been busy beavers running around like crazy, as long as u had a good time it's all worth it.

Sandy ur play sounded as if everything went perfectly, well u did put a lot of work in it and sounded like so much fun too.

Kim love the pics of Sadie and the drinks are the best. Ur busy as usual, I don't know how u do it all.

Dara must be super busy too, she hasn't been here at all.

I haven't been on FB much either. Leslie had nother chemo Fri. and she's been in bed starting yesterday---IDK she's a mess right now, feels terrible. My cousin ws in ICU for most of last week <it was horrible> she's out now and talking pretty well now--more chit. My sister and I were so worried and sad--it's like all these things now.

So very busy with work, it's like I've never worked before all these new things, my last call was 10PM last nite, everyone wants it right now, my scheduling is all crazy too.

BTW Kim u look so hppy in ur pic. but sadie looks cuter.

Ill it's good to see u poop in, we always want to hear how everyone is doing.

    Oh I saw

Chevy bring up a very cheerful subject for the holidays, just like her. U know how some people walk in a room and light it up, well Chevy walks in and everyone knows to get candles ready. Years ago they used to have it for 3 nites. Holy chit even the person who died got sick of it. And everyone usually came all 3 nites and the funeral. Oh it got better it was in the house and so was the casket, very scary for little kids, my sister and my cousin wanted to see if pennies would balance on my grandpas eyelids, so of course they did it. But when everyone left for the nite the kids would cling to each other....remember Chevy??? don't say u don't cuz u have to remember that one. Bu.t I always feel bad when I hear anyone had a sad childhood. Except for wakes, mine was perfect, no drama just fun the way it's supposed to be, solid parents and a big family that always spent lots of time with everyone having a good time . I'm so lucky that way. Every New Years Eve at midnite my mom and 2 aunts would light up a cigarette--those days it was something, for some reason we all had a good time with that, even the men. it didn't take much for us. But that was the fun. And when I hear all of our kids talk they all had so much fun too, so that's good for them. OK nuff memories for now.

See when I write I really write, sorry now aren't u. LOL

    LUBS U ALL

NM, my porch is a catch all for some of my stuff, mostly trash or recycled stuff and I too try to remember to take something out when I go. Did I see where you had a funeral to attend? I don't recall reading about anyone passing. LOVE the pictures of Sadie. Looks like she's wanting a belly rub!

Jazzy, of course we vision you listening to Xmas Jazz music!

Karen, we LOVE pictures and so glad that you are able to do these with your DD. Christmas Tree hair? Oh boy, one more infusion left of the AC? I believe this is number 3. Hoping it's not too hard on you.

Sandy, glad the show went well and the gal said YES! Hmmmmm, DIL in the near future perhaps?

Trip was pretty uneventful, not a lot of drama (as there usually is). No big wins in Laughlin, but wasn't expecting it, never do. Running to town today, DH has derm appt.

Karen, is this it? There are so many cool things online to do with hair.

Cami, I'm so sorry there is so much going on in your family. What happened with your cousin? Hoping Les doesn't have to stay in bed too long. And I still can't believe you answer the phones so late. NO business is open those kind of hours!

Good morning friends- busy day yesterday and some increasingly good news from my new teaming consulting partner company. We have been doing some biz development together the past few months, and they have many other good things in the works and new projects appear to be about to break. We have a contracting agreement together now, so I will be ready to move quickly for our first project together. Projects pending in many locations I can easily get direct flights to.

I got out to do some errands and got some copies made of my 2017 highlights newsletter to include, and have my first 11 personal cards ready to go in the mail today. Getting my biz cards done too, less of those to do, but very important too. I did not do as many cards last year, due to end of the year go live and also fighting respiratory crud. So I am hitting the bigger list this year. Some years I don't do them at all. That is how we role these days, do them as time and interest presents itself end of each year. I still love to get Xmas cards in the mail (vs. endless catalogs, store circulars, and requests for money that are so common this year).

NM- kids and aging parents love Xmas the most and I spent most of my Xmases from 2005-2011 with our mom in CA after her health changed and she moved there to live near my sister. You do need to be around for your parents and enjoy your time with them. We always made a big deal about Xmas for our mom in her later years. She was like a little kid with her gifts. Looking good was always super important to our mom, so my sis and I would buy her a nice outfit each, plus some essentials so she looked good in her assisted living home. She also liked red lipstick and would often be sent to buy up every color of read at CVS while I was there. I hope you have a good holiday with your mom and Dick and of course, Sadie too!

My time at the springs for Xmas has been sporadic through the years and have not been there since 2014 so quite a treat this year. Although I have been there regularly this year for some day trips as well as a couple over-nighters, going there for Xmas is my fav thing to do for the holidays. All about relaxing, reading, getting treatments, and getting ready for another busy year. Plus, I found out yesterday I have some good $$$ waiting for me at one of my consignment stores I plan to pick up this week that will nicely pay for my lodging there. Whoot whoot! Going to make another spa treatment this week during my time up there in a few more weeks. December is self care month for jazzy......

Cami- I am sorry to hear that Leslie is suffering with the latest chemo treatment. I know you shared they have changed the protocol with what they are giving her and it sounds really tough on her. And then someone else in the ICU too? So scary friend. I hope everyone is feeling better there soon and sorry work is so darned busy.

You also crack me up with the comment to NM about her being cute, but that Sadie is cuter Winking

Karen- I think it is good if you can leverage FMLA for your treatment time. I am self employed and was in between contracts when I got my dx, so I ended up being off in the beginning during the surgery, but then was working on a project while getting my rads and worked it out with my client to just be working remote during that time (and without ever disclosing that I had cancer). Working and going through treatment is really tough so better if you don't have to. FMLA will protect you and your job. I leveraged FMLA once when my mother became very ill and grateful to have it back then during a very difficult time.

My BFF is having her surgery today so I am going to check in tonight with her husband to see how things went. Praying for clean margins and good outcomes as we do for all our bco sister. I would share this site with her, but she is not a computer person so don't think she would come here. I may tell her husband about it though for information/articles that may help them as he has a good phone and more web saavy.

Weather is colder today and feels like snow, although they say some rain may happen. We need the moisture, bring it on I say.

Wishing all the sisters here a terrific Tuesday!

    ChiSandy,

Very sweet about the proposal. J

    NM,

We officially have our first snow here in Minnesota. Craziest thing ever to wait this long for the snow and my daughter is itching to get out there, but it's too windy and I'm not feeling well enough for that.

Thank you for the book comments. I've been wanting to write since I was 11 I think, but back then it was hard to get anything published unless you knew something or had something extremely special. Now with self publishing I can do this myself. With some editors on good reads and friends helping out as well and book covers you can buy online as well. It's pretty awesome.

We had a wonderful today, though exhausting. I want her to have wonderful memories of our Christmases together like I had with my mom when I was little. Creative decorations, baking, and Christmas music. :D Oh and driving by holiday lights every year. And the Berry Merry Cocktail looks awesome. I can't remember if I shared the Grinch drink….I'll have to do that at the end of this.

    Camillegal,

Thank you so much for the support on work. I figured the pay isn't different so why deal with the added stress for what won't be a huge difference.

Sorry Leslie is feeling so terrible. L I felt pretty bad right after my infusion yesterday. But today was better. Though I know in a few days I'll be back to the crap for a few more days. This time we are trying to correct the heartburn while keeping constipation at bay. He is really trying to get rid of the nausea too. But heartburn is likely playing a part in that and the steroids are likely causing the terrible heartburn...such a pain. And remembering all of these meds and everything you have to do. It's exhausting. Not to mention all the financial aid forms for certain needs. Yipes. It plays with your mind and plays with your health. ;( I'm hoping she feels better very soon!

I second Goldie's message. How is your cousin? L

    Goldie,

Yes I love every moment this past Sunday. And yes that is the tree hair do we want to do. And yes, one more left before the taxol begins weekly. It will be a lighter dose because of the weekly and I won't need the nuelasta once that begins. Whew!

Happy to hear there wasn't a lot of drama on your trip! :D

    Jazzy,

Yeah as mentioned above, it didn't make a huge difference on pay realistically unless I was forcing myself in on days I didn't feel well. And so far I hadn't been doing that anyway. I just couldn't do it. It was hard enough getting things done when I wasn't sick, add this in. Chemo isn't the only thing that can make you nauseated.

I'm praying for your bff as well that it's all good and hasn't gone invasive. Keep us posted on her.

Cami, so sorry to hear that Leslie's chemo is more of an ordeal than for most. Hope she can turn a corner soon and find ways to bolster her energy and immune system. (My son's GF is also named Leslie).

Jazzy, as an "autumn," my mom was also a red-lipstick aficionada. At her funeral, we were shocked to see that the mortician had her wearing rose-pink--that was a color she'd never have chosen with her ruddy complexion.

We've been winter-slammed here too. Yesterday it hit 66. Woke up to 38. Now 33 and extremely windy. Not looking forward to running errands. Seriously considering bringing the herb pots indoors to see how they'll do. (Chives are perennials in the ground, so not going to dig them up to transplant). Basil was the first to feel the cold and I'm buying it cut & prepacked in the produce section; we have 3 small homegrown tomatoes remaining and have had to order our first store-bought ones since late June!

Scary day for my family. My sister and her disabled partner were on the freeway from Orange Co. to San Francisco and ran in to the horrific Ventura Co. fire. They knew about it before they left and it was not going to be near the roads, but they got up there and there were flamed 100 feet from the road. Those fire storms out on the west coast are reporting to move at an acre a second, so no way to get out of the way of that when it jumps the freeway, but the fortunately got turned around and headed back south.

Then they called and said they were between TWO wild fires as they went back south. The one to the south of them was smaller, and they managed to get through the mess and back home by mid afternoon. My sis gave up the whole trip plan after this today, and will miss her conference, but we are all glad they are home safely. They said the fire that they saw was truly apocalyptic. I had a bad vibe about their trip but did not say anything, but now I know why.....

My BFF is out of surgery and all went well per her husband. Will talk to her in a few days and going to send them something from Harry and David next.

I am grateful all my people are okay. But I am exhausted......

NM, you are such a good daughter. Glad you are there to watch over mom and Dick. I wish I were closer to my mom to help her out. And more able to do so now that your work schedule has changed.

Jazzy, what a bizzy lil goil you have been and have a wonderful treat set up for yourself for Christmas. You sure treat yourself well! And a little bonanza from the consignment shop. Praying all went well for your BFF and glad that she has you. Def. chilly here! OH MY, what a scary ordeal for your sister and her partner. Glad they are safe. What is Harry and David?

Karen, be careful if you do go out in that snow, you don't want to get sick! Why do they give us the steroids? Ladies??? I don't remember if I got the neulasta shot during Taxol or not. However, that is when I lost the rest of any hair left on my body. Up until that point I still had my eyebrows and eyelashes. But I was not on a weekly dose either.

Sandy, if the herbs are still ok you could bring some in, chop em up and freeze or dry.

Went into town yesterday, DH had derm appt. Had some spots on the top of his noggin froze and then 2 biopsies. One right next to his eye and the other was on his back. Won't know anything for about a week.

    Good Morning Ladies,

Wow so much again in such a short time.

Karen it didn't sink in about u publishing a book, oh how exciting for u and ur family. This must perk u up a bit. I don't care how easy u make it sound, it can't be. U should be very proud of urself. And ur going to make loads of memories for ur DD at Christmas, so don't worry about that. And love the cookie thing, I used to bake for our parties but never mastered cookies, even tho I always made them with my mom, she was great, but I just didn't like it. I did try again with Joey but again wasn't a pretty sight. I hope ur feeling better, Leslie;s legs are painful now and I remember that, so that's why she stays in bed.

Jazzy I'm glad the surgery is over for ur BFF, but I know u want to find out everything about it. Things see to be shaping up on the work site for u, that would be great to start the year with a great job cuz ur ending Dec. with a great finish. Ur plans sound wonderful. Wow those fires, so happy ur DS got out of all the mess there was. I've seen some on the news and whoa it's bad. I bet it was nerve wracking for them driving thru all of that.

Lori are u home for a while...I think this is a busy month for everyone. Oh my cousin is so secretive, she says now she's fine it's no biggy. She's nuts, this is how nuts she is... she told me yesterday she was so excited, I thought she was going home, instead she told me I ordered u a Kuerig so u can make coffee any time u want it. and the filters so I can use my own coffee. See she's crazy. Of course I tell her that all the time. And since my boss is her grandson he can be crazy too---his ads say 24/7 emergency service, usually it's plumbing, but he does plumbing, electric and HVAC licensed in all so when I get mad I call him Mr. 24/7 , he told me not to answer after 8pm, that it would go to him but I usually do and get it all set up, saves him time--he now has 7 people working tho--started with 3.

I missed NM---she must be busier than usual

DARA, DARA, DARA GET UR ASS IN HERE.

    Prayers to all.

    and LUBS U ALL

Cami, thanks for the push in the pewl. Oh how I remember those sore legs, they were like rubber, caused from the Nuelasta shot. Does Leslie get that? I've heard of gals taking Claritin for that, but she would need to ask, being that she is on so many other drugs. So your cousin didn't tell why she is in the hospital? I would say if you are in ICU, it's IMPORTANT! Not answering the phone after 8 is not so bad and if after 8 and you are up, then go ahead answer.

Good Morning, Loungettes, just barely! Spend a good chunk of this morning working through e-mails, bills, and other desk work type stuff. Seems to have become a Wednesday habit. Not so bad a habit, I suppose, this stuff has to get done sometime. December seems to be flying by, I just flipped the calendar over and already we're in the second week.

FYI, there's a pretty severe flu virus, Influenza A (H3N3), circulating in Australia and will eventually get to the US and Europe. This year's flu vaccine is only about 10% effective against this particular virus (N Engl J Med. Published online November 29, 2017. Full text). This means that we could be in for a severe flu season this season or in the 2018/2019 season. So practice all your good hygiene habits, lots of handwashing and sanitizing, don't touch your face, stay away from people with coughs or fevers, get enough rest, etc, etc. It's almost too bad wearing gloves doesn't come back into fashion, think of how many infections we would not get if we wore cotton gloves all the time in public! I'm sure that's way too old-fashioned to ever make a comeback, but it's something to think about. I am praying that I can keep myself from catching anything respiratory this year.

Cammy--I am so sorry Leslie isn't feeling well, and praying the chemo effects wear off quickly. Praying for your cousin's speedy and complete recovery, too. Yup, Sadie is generally cuter in pics than me, but that's ok. She still cuddles with me at the end of the day.

Goldie--the funeral was for Dick's ex-wife, who died of Alzheimer's Disease. She and Dick have been divorced for a very long time, years before he met Mom, but he stayed involved with her and the children. I've never actually met her that I know of, but I have met Dick's children and most of the grandchildren. I thought it would be appropriate to go and show support to Mom and Dick if no one else. Dick's son and daughter we pleased to see me there. We need to start building some sort of relationship amongst ourselves as Mom and Dick age and they will be needing more help as time goes by and we will be working together on that. It will be easier if we have more than just a passing acquaintance when that time comes. And yes, Sadie is always up for (or down on her back for) a belly rub! Love the hair style!

Jazzy-- good news indeed about the contract agreement, and pending projects! Easy, direct flights to locations is a big plus. I can picture you getting sent out by your mom to buy every red lipstick in CVS! I can picture my mom doing that too. But she wouldn't send me out for every color of red, she will send me out searching for one particular color of red that matches a red that she got from a company that is now out of business! Like the time she told me to get her some soap that wasn't too slippery (she was in rehab after knee replacements at the time). Woot, woot for sure about the $ at the consignment shop! Nice surprise! Good advice about FMLA. I used it last spring when I was out sick for so long. Prayers for your friend for clean margins and a quick recovery.

Karen--Kids do love snow, don't they? And kid love and remember the smallest things about Christmas. I'm sure you will make yours memorable for your whole family. That Grinch Drink looks very fun!

Chi--Basil is notorious for not liking the cold, and won't even flourish around here unless it's warm enough to keep it happy. And I don't keep my house warm enough in the winter to keep a basil plant happy inside! Too bad about your Mom's makeup. Around here the funeral home staff ask for a color pic of the person to use as a guide for the make-up and hair styling.

Jazzy--Wow, that must have been terrifying for your sister and partner. The pics I've seen on the news are horrifying. Apocalyptic is a good description. Glad they got home safe, and I can see why you are so tired! Good to hear BFF's surgery went well.

Goldie--I am glad to be close enough to be helpful to Mom and Dick, and even more so to be able to control my work schedule to maximize my availability. I'm beginning to think that all I went through last spring to get to this point was God setting me up for more elder care coming in the near future.

Cammy--Wow, Mr 24/7 has 7 people working for him now? That's pretty successful! And you missed me cuz I'm running late today.

Hi friends- back on track today after being a bit derailed yesterday with my sis and the scare they had. Talked to her last night and she said so good to be home. It sounds like she will be able to get out of any hotel charges for the no show given the state of emergency declared by the State of CA. She is going to see if they possibly will be taping the med conference so she can view it on line and get the CME credits. I told her most orgs do video tape those events and charge a smaller fee for those events for those that cannot attend in person. They were exhausted last night, needless to say, but grateful to be out of harms way. That fire is still a raging inferno.

Today I have lots to do, a trip to the pool in another hour and a biz dinner tonight. I am also getting some final December get togethers figured out with friends and my client here before the holiday is here. Just made plans to meet one of my local BFFS in Santa Fe for a play day next week. Some museum time, shopping and apps and drinks. They always decorate the SF plaza so nicely at Xmas time.

Goldie- Harry and David is a catalog company that offers fruits and other goodies. They are well known for their pears, so delicious and been a big fan/ordered from them for years. Instead of flowers or the like, I always send people recovering from surgeries or anything else their royal rivera pears. I happen to know my BFF and husband love them so sending an order is the perfect thing to do. Will give them a few more days to settle as she heals from the surgery, and know the path report may not be available for awhile yet.

    https://www.harryanddavid.com/

NM- so good of you to attend the funeral, and no doubt the kids whom you do have more of a relationship with appreciated it. We don't go to the funerals for the dead, but for the living who continue on, right?

And thank you about the heads up on the Australian strain of the flu that may not be in our American flu shot. I get the flu shot every year due to asthma per my PCP. I had a bad respiratory thing last winter too (although not as bad as yours) and hope to remain healthy. The only thing I have had so far this fall is a couple days of a sore throaty thingy with some congestion that moved through quickly. I think it was just a 48 hour bug.

Chi- hope you are recovering from the performances?

Cami- yes, I will want to know all about my friends path report and told her we should talk once she has that and the treatment plan. I told her there is a whole new "lingo" around this crap you need to learn and can help her through that. I also heard from another friend yesterday who had Her2 positive cancer a few years back and something came up on some recently imaging. They did an MRI last week, as the spot was too small to biopsy and it appears to be some scar tissue. I had a few of those spots come up the first few years after, less so with time. Always scary for anyone with our history, but why they keep on top of our follow ups with us. Everyone is going to be okay I think? That includes women in treatment here.

I hope your cousin continues to feel better, and that Leslie can get through the crappy chemo stuff.

Karen- hoping you are feeling better as the week goes on from chemo?

Gotta get going to my day and wishing all the sister here a happy hump day!

Pretty much recovered from the crazy show schedule (and cooking dinners again rather than ordering out, nuking leftovers, or eating after-party finger food). Last night I seared a beautifully marbled grass-fed boneless ribeye in a cast-iron skillet, and the DOTD was 2 oz. of a 2011 Signorello (Napa) Cab. Sauv., via Coravin (commercials for the gadget are cropping up all over, and you can now even buy it in big-box stores like B,B&B). Signorello was one of the wineries completely destroyed in Oct.'s wine country (Napa/Sonoma/Mendocino/Lake counties) fires. The Cab was perfectly at its peak, with softened tannins, full body, and tons of fruit.

Evening, Loungettes!Well, I just had an uncomfortable phone call. It was from the director of the Immunization/Travel clinic that I've been working at for the last 6 months. I've been let go. I should be much further along in my orientation than I am, I've been in orientation twice as long as expected and not progressing as quickly as expected in the travel med consultation part. I did my second supervised consultyesterday. I knew the other nurse was in the next room listening and I kept getting tongue tied. Part of me wants to blame that nurse for undermining me cuz I don't do things her way and don't have all the stats memorized yet. Part of me wants to have a temper tantrum about not being told before that I wasn't meeting expectations. Part of me isn't surprised and wants to blame the orientation process. And part of me is actually a bit relieved because now I can spend more time in work with better pay. And part of me is saying this is why I've been getting a very odd vibe from the director for the last few weeks. This is the first time I've ever been let go, and I don't quite know how to handle it. I suppose mixed feelings are to be expected right now.

Mema--So glad to hear NED in the brain scan!!!!!Praying the mast can be done ASAP and get it over with. At least with recon you can do it later if you want to take more time for researching options. So glad to hear good news for you!

Jazzy--your sis and her partner had quite the close call from the sounds of things. It's good they can get at least some of their money back. I'm sure the conference will be taped or recorded in some fashion and credits made available. Funny seeing you write about a play day, I read it as "play date" the first time through! Good idea, though. And yes, the funeral or receptions or life celebration or whatever is for the living, no the deceased. They did seem to appreciate my going. Sending fruit to people recovering from surgery is a great idea. I've seen that catalog before, the goodies look wonderful.

Chi--what a wonderful cab that must be. Shame the vineyard was destroyed. Hope they can rebuild.

Well, I'm going to open a bottle of vino and see if I can lose myself in a good book.

NM- sorry to hear the travel clinic did not work out. I have been layed off twice from corporate jobs where both my groups were disbanded due to business changes. First time was very hard, second time I knew what to do. But it stings.

But remember, you are self employed now. You never need to list that work or mention that job for any reason. I never mention contract gigs with clients that did not work out. I focus on my best work when I talk about my gigs.

Onwards to more rewarding work. You are doing well sister even if you cannot see that. You have made a very graceful transition from FT hospice work to per diem nursing. Be proud sister!

Kim, so sorry about being let go. I was laid off from my first law firm job, as a paralegal who became an associate after passing the bar. The axe fell at the firm's holiday party on Dec. 30--I was called into the managing partner's office and told that they never had any intention of keeping me through New Year's Day because I was hired as a temp paralegal because they didn't want to pay the employment agency a commission for a permanent associate hire. I asked why, if that was the case, did they put my name on the building directory and the firm's letterhead as an associate? He answered, "Oh, we do that for all our associates--you just weren't a permanent one." Second time was after four years in the IL Atty. Gen's office--a new A.G. was elected and all of us earning >$25K who weren't division chiefs or deputy chiefs were let go. But that time at least I got severance & COBRA, and had worked long enough to get unemployment compensation. Both times the firings came without warning.

Good Morning, Loungettes! Happy Thirsty Thursday! I didn't sleep very well last night, but I kind of expected that. Going to work for Hospice today, that will keep me occupied. Poor Sadie nearly got cuddled to death last night, every time she moved I'd move to make sure I was right up against her. Good thing she likes cuddles!

Jazzy--thanks for the reminder that I work for myself now. That does put things in perspective. And it did occur to me that being let go has no effect financially as I wasn't making enough money regularly to count on there. I'll stop in and drop off my key and ID badge and leave gracefully, and move on. I am still proud of myself for making the changes I did, and I am doing OK, and I'm trying new things and of course some won't work out.

Chi--I think I'm mostly bothered by the fact that I really did not see this coming. I really did not know that I was not meeting her expectations. If I had known I'd have tried to do something about it. And it wasn't too long ago that the director was telling me that I was trying to move ahead too fast. Ah, well, whatever. What's done is done. I'm gladyou got unemployment and a severance package and COBRA the last time it happened to you.
