how about drinking?

After running errands, nibbling on some Jollibee* "Chickenjoy" (wanted to see what the fuss was all about, and I still don't know) and catching up on e-mails, I went out with Bob to Cellars to pick up the wines we ordered at last week's tasting--but the kitchen closed early and so did the restaurant. So we hit the hot bar at WF and went home. Bob saved me a glass of 2015 Ch. Graville-Lacoste Graves (Sauv. Blanc), and I am savoring it now. Nice grassy & grapefruit notes--no "cat pee" bouquet (there are no eucalyptus trees in Bordeaux).

And Sunday night at Mango Pickle, we were seated next to a table full of "bros" (you know the type--aging millennials and younger Gen-Xers pretending to be millennials, ironically dressed in tees, lumberjack shirts, windbreakers, cargo pants or Dockers, Hush Puppies or canvas high-tops, nerd-chic glasses, carefully cultivated face-scruff, etc.)*. Probably had to wear jacket & tie all week, working in various banks on LaSalle St. & tech-incubators in whatever former factory district du jour has become hip-ly overpriced. Their ringleader (tallest, heaviest, scruffiest, ball-cap) was reading the menu aloud and sneering about the "monsooned Malabar" coffee--saying, "I don't care about woodsy or floral notes--I just wanna know if it'll give me a buzz. And [he turned a sidewise glance at me] these wine snobs swirling their glasses really piss me off with their affectations." He then took a swig of a craft-brewed IPA...from the bottle.

I stifled any impulse to say anything, much less toss my Grenache/Syrah in his face (it cost too much to waste). He didn't realize that swirling a wine in the glass releases more aroma and makes it taste better--because you don't do that with beer...especially not if it's still in the bottle. Meanwhile, the guy sitting immediately to my right (the tables were 12" apart, and the banquette was one continuous padded bench along the wall) was about twice my size, constantly jiggling his knee, and laughing uproariously. Now I don't mind laughter...but not when it shakes the entire bench and, by extension, my table--I had to keep my hands in my lap because if I rested my forearms on the table, it shook along with the bench every time he laughed. Poor Bob sitting across from me was watching his own beer sloshing uncontrollably (along with the water in our glasses). We breathed a sigh of relief when the six of them finally managed to divvy up the check and leave. (So did everyone else sitting along our wall).

*(Not to be confused with hipsters, who--despite having less money--care immensely about food & drink).

Good Morning, Loungettes!Happy thirsty Thursday! Bright, sunny morning here, with frost on the clothes I hung out on the line last night. I'll need to wait a bit until the sun burns off the frost before bringing them in. I think I'll wash the sheets and comforter today, and have a nice fresh, outdoor smelling bed tonight. I'm working on getting myself motivated to take Sadie for a walk today. I need to start walking again, I need to get back to the 3 miles a day I used to do. The snowbanks on the sides of the road have melted enough to make it safe to walk on my road, and it's warm enough to be comfortable. So I really have no excuse any more. If I can get Sadie back in the habit she'll keep me on track, it's just the getting started that is so hard.

While I was killing time yesterday I found a couple bottles of 19 Crimes wine! I got the 2016 and 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon. Can't wait to look up the stories!

    Goldie--It may be I was the one to get the ball rolling, and I hope other staff are being open with how they feel about how things are going, but I suspect many are just avoiding going to the office as much as possible. It's interesting to watch the dynamics from a bit of a distance.I've had goat cheese many times, there are a number of local farms that raise goats and make goat's milk products. You may have had it without knowing, it's usually labelled "Chevre." It's a soft cheese, a bit firmer and dryer than cream cheese, tends to be a bit drier and not as creamy as cream cheese, is considered a mild cheese with a tangy taste that works really well with all kinds of add ins. My favorite add ins are the herbs and garlic. It's spreadable, hard to crumble without first freezing it. Feta cheese is the closest to Chevre that I can think of. I thought the onion and apple combo was going to be odd but it was REALLY good! I'm planning to make another one for dinner tonight. Is your Mom still in the hospital? If she is, ask for a Palliative Care consultation. They will look at the whole picture and let you all know what is going on, what the possible and likely outcomes of various treatment approaches are, and they will focus on comfort and quality of life while her other doctors focus on curing the pneumonia.It may be time to be thinking about what her goals and wants are regarding her health issues. It may be time to shift the focus of care from curing to comfort. At least you would all know exactly where things stand. {{{hugs}}}

Chi--a Filipino fast food chain? Somehow I never thought of Filipino food as being fast food, but I suppose any food can be fast food. Or hasversion of fast food. Was the Chickenjoy very spicy? I've worked with Filipino nurses in the past and the food they brought to the potlucks was usually really spicy. Sounds like quite the dining experience you had! I really don't care for places with tables crowded so closely together for just that reason. I can picture the "bros" who probably spent more time making the face scruff look just right than most women spend on hair and makeup! I secretly laugh at them when I see them.

Sandy, I think I would have asked to be moved to a different table! Funny story, my step daughter and her hubby had gone to TN and stopped at some wineries. We were out with them one time, forget what for, but he was telling us all about swirling wine and smelling the cork and all, but at this time he was drinking beer, and didn't he swirl his beer!

NM, I really don't think there is a "cure" for my mom. I don't actually know at the moment where she is. She was supposed to go back to the nursing home yesterday, but when I called last night I didn't get an answer and my brother, who said he was going to go visit her last night, never answered my text. I will suggest the Palliative consult. Ended up crying myself to sleep last night, thinking of how alone she must feel. At least when she was home she had her aide 3 days a week and Zeus. Now she is just stuck in a room all by herself and hardly ever anyone coming in. I love pulling bedding off the lines, smells soooooo good. I'm sure Sadie will love going for a walk with you.

With DH hitting all of his appts., he came down with a cold. I think it's hitting me today. Dang it! So much for bragging about not being sick in forever.

Lori, the only reason to smell the cork is to tell if it's moldy--in which case the bottle is "corked," send it back. I usually just feel it to make sure it hasn't dried out in storage (but an unscrupulous restaurant would just turn it upside down before bringing it to the table to open). Always make sure they open it in front of you (and read the label to see if you're getting what you ordered off the list). If they bring it already opened, send it back. If they say that's their policy (one place said it's because the cellar or kitchen has "the big corkscrew"), tell them you will not be having wine there and you won't pay for that bottle. Every server should have a waiter's corkscrew in order to open the wine in front of the customer. Swirling is another story--it creates waves that not only aerate the wine in the glass (it'll never "breathe" in the bottle) but releases more aroma and flavor. (Swirling beer will just make it go flatter sooner and possibly get your clothes wet).

There was one winery in TN that hired us to play the guitar festival it sponsored. At sunset, the daytime concerts were over, and they invited us up to the hilltop for hors d'oeuvres and wine. It had been Yom Kippur and I was starving, so I hit the food big time. Drank a little bit of their bubbly and then played our evening set (didn't want to play sloshed). Then went back up the hill for the wine-tasting, and realized when you drink enough, everything tastes better than you'd thought. Went back to my room (they put us up too), hit the Jacuzzi and went to sleep...but couldn't until the "black whirlies" abated. Meanwhile, the musicians in the other rooms were jamming outside, but I didn't want to embarrass myself (and certainly not change back out of my PJs). Next morning, I recalled which of the wines I liked the best and went to the winery to buy some to take back home. Of course, the one varietal grown on-site, Sangiovese (which was really good) was out of stock. So I bought their bubbly and a white native-grape hybrid called "Chardonel." When I got home, the cork had already begun to lift and the wine ooze out of the bottle of bubbly--and it was awful. (Can't fault storage, because I had stopped in Sparta, IL to do some recording and stored it in the air-conditioned guest room; and all the way home the temps in the car were 68 or below). The Chardonel? Afraid to open it--will save it for when Bob wants something to knock off in a night.

Kim, Jolibee is a Filipino fast food chain, not a fast Filipino food chain. Everything is decidedly American, and lowbrow at that (mushy spaghetti & bland tomato sauce baked into patties or served as a side; the chicken is more like KFC's Extra Crispy--but they ran out of spicy). Was hoping they'd have actual Filipino food--pansit (thin "cellophane" noodles with veggies & other garnishes), lumpia (slim fried egg rolls, adobo chicken. Nope. Seems when it comes to fast food, Asian (including Middle Eastern) countries want American-style. No Panda Express (much less authentic Chinese fast-food) in Shanghai, at least when I visited. (There's a KFC with a 1-1/2x life size statue of the Colonel at the Great Wall gate nearest Beijing...the only part of the chicken they serve is the left wing...).

When I was at Brooklyn College, NYC had a chain of German wurst shops called Zum Zum: bratwurst, weisswurst, bauernwurst, knackwurst; birch beer for the teetotalers and light ("hell") and dark ("dunkel") draft beer for everyone else. No idea why they went under. There was also a sit-down family-style chain of Viennese restaurants called Wienerwald (Vienna Woods). When I moved to Chicago, I was delighted to find an outpost of a chain called "Wienerschnitzel" (based in CA), but was chagrined to find they served no schnitzels, just hot dogs & burgers. (And Chicago is so persnickety about hot dogs that there's a great stand in almost every neighborhood--the chains don't stand a chance).

I was also hoping to find Korean-style sweet/spicy chicken legs & wings, like at the DC-area Bonchon chain; but our neighborhood Korean takeout place, DAK, does only the wings. But they're big enough to be pterodactyl wings. They also have bibimbap & bulgolgi, but no chap chae. (Bonchon's is almost as good as the chicken legs),

Good Morning, Loungettes!Happy TGIF day! Waking up to some rain and fog this ayem. Much better than snow! Woops, looking at yesterday's post and realizing the DOTD recipe wasn't complete! Sorry 'bout that. Looks like the critical info is there, though.

I got a text fromClinical Manager #1 yesterday wanting to know when I am available next week. And then another text asking if I would see patients in one facility and a home patient in another geographic area on the same day. Get this--the patient and family is asking for me, specifically. Talk about a bargain chip!

Silly Sadie says "good morning" to everyone!

Goldie--It is so hard for someone to be in a room alone and on isolation precautions. Even when there isn't a cure for someone, traditional medicine tends to continue to treat along that path unless someone takes steps to change the focus, and Palliative Care can help with that, if that is appropriate. What I'm thinking in particular is that if repeated bouts of pneumonia are to be expected, does she want to focus on curing each bout (with no cough medicine, going to the hospital, IV antibiotics, etc) and living as long as possible, or does she want to focus on being comfortable (staying in the nursing home, getting cough medicine, maybe not getting antibiotics at all or just oral antibiotics) knowing that she will live a shorter length of time.A surprising number of people do not know they have a choice, and once they do many choose comfort over a longer life span. Of course, some people choose the other way around, and that's ok, too. Once a patient has chosen, everyone knows what is wanted and what is not wanted and it's easier to deal with the whole situation. As to catching a cold, I'm not sure it's possible to take a plane ride and not catch a cold, and hopefully it's only a cold that you catch!

Chi--that oozing bottle of bubbly must have been truly awful. I can't imagine. OK, I see the difference between a Filipino fast food and fast Filipino food. Seem kind of too bad, I like trying food from different places. LOL a the left wing Colonel! I love Birch Beer, funny to think of it being served at a German restaurant!

Lori I think about u with ur mom a lot, prayin things are getting better.

Jazzy always hoping the right job comes up for u.

I know I''m missing so much, I like being busy, but this is really gettin out of hand for me by the end of the day I'm cock-eyed. Kinda fun actually.

Leslie is doing OK for now, her surgery won't be until after her rads and so far the rads haven't zapped her with energy wipeout, but I can see it starting. Joey seems to be a smidge better too.. All we can do is wait.

Jeez I started this an hour ago, I'll have more time this weekend.

Sandy- thanks for the wine tasting lesson. I never knew why they sniffed, swirled and all, I just knew what I liked when I taste it.

NM- I am thinking of having a Luau Party and think your Hump day punch would be perfect.

Goldie- I am so sorry about all the things your poor mom and family are going through- it is so hard to find a good place and know that she will be taken care of and be happy at.

Jazzy- thanks for sharing the music! I love Jazz! I am hoping to get to New Orleans in a few months and listen to Jazz there.

Sandy, were you able to return the oozing bubbly? I just found it quite funny when he swirled his beer and then smelled it. And he was serious about it!

NM, doesn't surprise me one bit that you were requested. But still nice to know. I haven't been on a plane to catch the cold, he's all the places that DH has been with his issues. I so appreciate the help and explanation of palliative care. Mom has not been diagnosed with pneumonia, which surprises me, but she does have cronic COPD. I shared it all with my brothers to see what their thoughts are. I guess the big thing would be if medicade will pay for it, as the nursing home will be getting all of her money.

Cami, it's good to hear that Leslie is doing "OK" and that Joey is doing better too. And you so busy on dem phones. And there you are with one of your cock words "cockeyed".

Misty, the hardest thing for me is not being there to help my mom.

DH went for another ultra sound on his kidney and will be sent to a urologist as there is some blockage, then to chiro, then shopping. I felt really good yesterday, even normal. So I thought whatever I had was just a fluke. NOT. Woke up this morning with the dry, scratching throat and drippy nose.

Good Morning, Loungettes!Happy Saturday! Sadie and I had a lovely sleep in, and are totally not bothered by the gray, gloomy, drizzly day. Not sure what projects I'm going to work on this weekend, but one will present itself, no doubt. Mom's having a good visit with my brother and his wife, will be back sometimes this coming week. The snow is really melting off now, looks like I'll be able to at least go look at the raised garden beds in the yard. The containers on the deck are pretty much thawed out, some are waterlogged and need a bit of attention. The yard really does need work, but it's too boggy to work on just yet. Feeling the motivation to do some bigger decluttering projects now that I can reach the dumpster again.

Cammy--looks like you've been really busy!Good for you and your nephew's business.I did get caught up a bit in some office politics recently, but I think I've gotten that sorted out. But Idid find out that my favorite social worker to work with, and the only full time social worker, is cutting back after the end of this month. She's taken a part time job at a local cancer center and will be working 1 or 2 days a week with Hospice. I sure hope there will be another full time social worker taking her place, Hospice really cannot afford to have days without a social worker in the office, doing that plus the nursing work is way too much for one person. But, not my circus, not my monkey. Glad to hear Leslie is doing ok with rads. At least that one tiresone out over time and not all at once. Praying for her and Joey, and you.

Misty--I'm pretty much an I-know-what-I-like-when-I-taste-it wine drinker, too. I've learned a lot from Chi. I've also learned a lot from "Wine for Normal People." They have a Facebook site, a new web site, and a whole series of podcasts on iTunes. She explains a lot of the jargon and such in plain language, has guests that delve deeper into some aspects. There are over 100 podcasts, I'm still working my way through the earliest one, cuz I keep going back and re-listening to some of them.

    Jazzy--nice clip!

Goldie--Medicaid should pay for a Palliative Care consult. COPD is a nasty disease, and can be so hard to manage, especially in the more advanced stages. Sounds like your immune system drove off whatever was trying to get a foothold. That's a good thing! And you probably did catch it from your DH. I thought you'd been on a plane recently. So much for my memory.

NM, this cold DID get a foot hold on me, boy did it ever! Went to bed at 4 last night. Of course I didn't sleep well. My brothers are all in for the palliative/hospice treatment and will check on it tommorow. I was in Michigan March 1-11, so about a month ago I was on a plane. Glad your mom is having a good time with your brother. I hope Dick is managing ok.

Ill, love the pics. You go girl. Who the little cutie in the pic with you and the hubs?

Good Morning, Loungettes!Happy Sunday Funday! Another grey day today, but at least it isn't raining. Even so, rain is better than snow! Went to a bean suppah with Dick yesterday. Of course, he knows people everywhere, no different yesterday, so I got to chat with some nice people and, of course, we got out our phones to show off dog pictures! Mom is having a good visit with my brother and his wife. She'll probably be home later this week. Not tomorrow, rain, possible "wintery mix", so she won't be driving tomorrow. While she's there my brother is setting her up with a new cell phone--different brand from the one I set her up with as she doesn't like it. She keeps turning things off and then wondering why it doesn't work. She doesn't want e-mail on her phone but wants to be able to e-mail pictures, doesn't want a weather app but won't go online to check the weather, and it's hard to get her to understand how the various apps work together (like you need e-mail on the phone to e-mail pictures from the phone, the camera app doesn't do e-mail). Anyway, she'll listen to my brother where she won't listen to me so maybe she'll be happier.

Illi--you had quite the day! No wonder you are beat! Nice pics, looks like you had a pretty good time with the Donut Dash.Sleep Well!

Lookin’ good, Ilona—glad you can still be athletic!

Sitting in the Delta Sky Club at O’Hare, killing time before my flight. No earlier flights to JFK available. Despite rain, it’s supposed to take off on time. Fingers crossed that the flight attendant can reseat me as close to the front as possible so I can be among the first off the plane at JFK—long walk from gate to AirTrain, then 10-20 min to Terminal 1, then security. They confirmed that a wheelchair probably wouldn’t get me through any faster because I’d have to wait at my arrival gate for it.

Was pouring rain when I left home and arrived here—so windy it knocked my bags over as soon as I got them to the curb! They let me keep my wrist brace on through security—it was that and not my knee implants that set off the metal detector. Was able to get into the Sky Club free, using saved flyer miles. Had a nice breakfast burrito and a triple cappuccino. Watching the tarmac and a lovely fireplace. This iPad Pro plus Smart Keyboard works pretty well—no more cramped layout than my laptop, and hella lighter. I put my brief tote in a large lightweight duffel with a pass-through sleeve for my rollaboard’s handle, and the duffel has room for my purse so it’s a single “personal item.” Flying coach to JFK on a regional jet, so it’ll be cramped, but Economy Comfort on Alitalia. They rejected my bid to upgrade to Business Class—apparently they had enough higher bids to fill the empty seats

Good morning ChiSandy - glad you are 'on your way'! O'Hare is notorious for delays eh?! Just wondering about bidding for a better seat or upgrade - how do you do this? I generally fly Delta or United and will be heading to Georgia in a few weeks via Delta...Too, did you use delta skymiles for the lounge? Would I 'cash' them in prior to my trip or right there at the lounge itself? Enjoy your travels!!!

    Good Sunday morning ladies,

Ill u really had quite a day, u have to be tired, but it sounds like a fun day. And u'll have many more so rest up for them.

Oh Lori for u to say ur sick, ur really sick, wow. It seems like colds always get the better of u and u know u have to just take care of urself. It's chit. And all that's going on with ur mom at this time, u must feel bad ur not there, but ur brothers seem like they have things under control and they know and understand about ur circumstances, So I hope u don't get down on urself for a minute. Everything u do u think of others and this is no different. And this is ur mom...<<<HUGS>>> always.

Kim I went on FB for a couple of mins. last nite and u look beautiful. And u have organized ur life extremely in such a short period of time---AMAZING---And rain is so much better than snow, besides it give Sadie a chance to mud up. Which to me is funny. ur furbaby cracks me up anyway.

Jazzy thanks for the video, as usual it's great.

I'm sure <well almost> that Sandy is either going or in Italy right now. right. I had one chance to go to Italy and one chance to go to Greece and I was afraid of flying, now of course I'm sorry I never went, so I hope she has the greatest time. But none of u gals fear anything like I do so u all get around.

Minn. and Wisc. had feet of snow I was worried sick cuz Joey's class trip was in all that snow, but he's home this mornin safe so I can lessen my Xanax, well a little.

Yes Lori I use my word as often as I can, I don't know why I find it so amusing---after all it is written that even a rooster uses it often. I remember when Joey was a baby I used to ask him "What does a rooster say???" And LOL so he'd say it often for me. And no one could really correct him or tell me to stop. Hey I never said I was a good grandma. just one that cuddled a lot.

OMG I've been writing this small ost at least 2 hrs. I'll try to come back later.

    LUBS U ALL

Janky, a week before my flight, Alitalia sent me an e-mail inviting me to bid for an upgrade to business class. They had a little gauge with a needle that went from “in your dreams" (my words) to “almost certain," with the needle moving up the higher you bid. I bid solidly in the “good" chance zone, but there were too many people who bid way higher and too few open spots. (Depending on the size of your bid, they're supposed to let you know 24-72 hrs ahead of departure if you got it; they informed me I was on standby for them upgrade till 8 hrs. before the flight, at which time they officially rejected my bid. Still got Economy Comfort for the JFK-FCO leg,

Anyway, the Delta lounge was nice (I used 5000 miles, but a day pass is $59, or $29 with their Amex card—Bob'll never let me apply for yet another Amex). Had a sip of Veuve de Vernay Brut before boarding—and we sat there for 40 min. while they de-iced, since it had begun to sleet. Awful turbulence. We landed at almost the last gate at JFK Terminal 4, but the flight attendant showed me a shortcut to Terminal 1: free tarmac bus to Terminal 2, then a 2-block walk outside to Terminal 1. (Beats a 20-min. hike to the AirTrain and another 20-min. wait & ride to T1). This being JFK, half the elevators & escalators up to the TSA & departure gates were broken.

The TSA guy saw my cane, and from my boarding pass that my plane would be boarding in 20 min. (leaving in only an hour), so they waved me over to the crew & wheelchair lane. Even so, I barely made it (they paged me while I was halfway through security, but I couldn't tell what they were saying—bet they were telling me that I did get standby for the upgrade, but there was no way I'd get there in time. About half the population of Crown Heights & Boro Park (OK, I'm exaggerating) was on my flight en route to a Hasidic camp near Tel Aviv—and that meant a gazillion baby strollers, hat boxes, etc. The families (mostly Lubavitcher & Modern Orthodox) were nice, but the single guys (mostly Satmar & Bobover) were oblivious to women and were tremendously impolite. Got to my seat and found the young men had hogged all the overheads in Economy Comfort with their hard hat boxes even though they were in coach. But I had nice legroom and was handed a prosecco as soon as I sat down. Had a Chianti with dinner, and the breakfast coffee was Lavazza

Arrival & Immigration was a snap. But my bag had already been taken off the carousel (I had to wait to let all the Tel-Aviv-bound passengers off to make their connection, so I was 20 min. late to the carousel) and sent to Lost & Found. Finally retrieved it, and got my taxi. Insane traffic and a maze of one-way and arbitrarily blocked-off streets, but I did make it to my hotel. Writing this from the lobby because my room won't be ready till 2pm. GRRRR!!! There's a 1pm lunch reception which I will miss because I've been wearing the same clothes for almost 24 hrs and am exhausted—will hunt up an espresso (nobody does cappuccino or caffe latte after 11am) and a pastry, and maybe stay in the lounge till the room is ready (or see if I can nap here in the lobby—apparently the elevators are broken here too. (Deja vu from last year at the Athanaeum in London—I was on the 4th floor of the row-houses wing).

Will check back in with you after I’ve caught some ZZZs and freshened up.

Good Morning, Loungettes!Happy Monkey day! When Sadie and I went to bed last night it was sleeting out. Got up to a quarter inch layer of ice on everything. This storm is still moving through and warming up slightly, so should turn to rain, which will be better than this mess. All I can say is "YUCK" but it's not as bad here as some places. Hopefully this will be the last of the "wintry" anything weather related for this season.

Goldie--Dick is managing well without Mom. She left him set up with all kinds of meals he just needs to thaw and heat up and he still cooks some himself, so he's eating well even though he looks like he's lost weight. It'll be interesting to see what Mom thinks when she gets home. Was it really a month ago that you were at your Mom's? I'm going to have to start a calendar to keep track of which BCO sistah is going where and when!

Illi--love the "Sprint for the Sprinkles!"

Chi--sounds like you are having a comfortable wait in the Delta Sky Club. By now you are probably in Italy. I hope your connection went smoothly and you had time to make it through. I suspect Economy Comfort is more comfortable than coach. Have a great trip!

    Morning, Janky!

Cammy--Thank you for the compliment! Sadie does like to mud up. You'll laugh at this one--the other day I let her out, she got muddy feet and then jumped back onto the bed and made a nest of the pillows, one of the pillow cases was all over muddy paw prints when I went to get ready for bed! Had to pull that pillow case off. Just a few paw prints on the blanket that had been washed the day before. I just brushed them off, there will be more! Glad Joey is home safe. Have a good day yourself!

Chi--so glad you found a shortcut through JFK, and the TSA guys was really helpful. Irritating to have to wait for the room to be ready, but at least you are there and safe and can get a bite to eat.

NM, how sweet of you to go to a bean suppah with Dick. Funny story about your mom and the cell phone. I spoke to my mom yesterday about Hospice/Palliative care, she says "sign me up".

Cami, you are an amazing grandma. Look how much Joey loves you. I'm so glad you have each other. And yes, I feel horrible that I can not be with my mom. She is so lonely and in pain, cries most of the time when I talk to her on the phone. I told my DH that I may need to go there and be with her. Reminds me of when Hsant went to be with her dad, altho I can not stay as long as she did. My DH would go nuts without me.

Wow Sandy, what a trip you had! Hope you got some rest and can enjoy your time there. Time difference isn't too terribly bad, right? About 6 hours?

This weather for you in the east and midwest is just flippin crazy. And I think I mentioned before, that it also affects our business. I'm starting to feel a bit better, not so miserable.

Hi ladies- sorry I did not get a chance to check in this past weekend. I was on the go the whole time working on house and garden things. April is a busy time of the year around here, but finished cleaning out the back yard, pruning, mulching, and setting up the patio. And stucco repair got done last week, drip system is going to get some attention this week. Just have to call my handyman (maybe painter) and then will be done with spring maintenance. I have some new work opps that if they come through, will have me traveling more so I am getting things done around here to be ready for that!

I went to the botanic museum yesterday and the place at peak bloom. Some of you probably saw my full photo album on FB, but for others, I will include a few highlights at the end. Spring is here for sure, although we get blasts of cold wind (but no moisture). The windy days really mess up my happy hour plans too.

Goldie- I am sorry your mom is suffering and does not have quality of life. NM is so right on to get palliative care set up so she can be more comfortable. I hope DH is feeling better soon, and think you were coming down with a cold? So much stress, sending you much love sister.

ChiSandy- I know you are off to Rome and hoping you have safe travels! I know there will be some great food and wine over there waiting for you.

Cami- glad to see you continue to check in sister. I heard the midwest got another snow storm, were you affected? Winter go away.

Ill- congrats on the race and looking good sister. I am not a super athlete either but enjoy pushing myself to do things and meet some personal goals. I know you had some new things come up in your recent scans and hoping you are doing okay. I think 2018 is retirement year? I love your pics at your cabin.

NM- I hope you and Sadie get a break from the weather too. I think I saw another friend from Maine post about freezing rain. Sadie says she needs you to take her swimming soon and think that kayak may be coming out more this year? I hope so! I think you are doing a good job keeping up the boundaries with the hospice folks. They need a healthcare consultant to come in there and fix up their problems (no not volunteering, lol).

Janky, Celia C, The Karens, Mistyeyes, hope you are doing okay this week.

    Now some spring blooms.....

Good Morning Loungettes! Happy Twofer Tuesday! Rained like a son of a gun yesterday, got 1.01 inches in my gauge. Sadie's mud puddle is now a small pond. Can't wait until she discovers it! At least it's not snow.

Janky--I agree, time for white stuff to be GONE!!!!!

Goldie--I hope the Hospice/Palliative care team gets your Mom more comfortable ASAP. Glad you are feeling better.

Jazzy--It'll will be so nice for you to have all the spring work taken care of, especially when you start traveling. Swimming and getting the kayak wet are definitely on the agenda this summer. I agree the office could use some help with the way they are treating staff, but since it's the top performing office in the New England area I doubt anyone is going to admit that anything is wrong. If the patient/family satisfaction surveyskeeping trending negatively that may change, but I doubt it. The flowers are BEAUTIFUL!

Janky--4 inches of snow?????Where do you live? I thought Maine was bad for late spring time weather!

    NM's DOTD:

    Lillet Rose Spring Cocktail

Lillet Rose, a fortified-wine blend of Sauvignon Blanc and Muscatel, has the aroma of flowers and ripe berries -- perfect for a springtime aperitif. Garnishing the drinks with edible flowers is a lovely touch.

    Ingredients

    • 12 ounces Lillet Rose
    • 12 ounces Ruby Red grapefruit juice
    • 6 ounces gin
    • 6 edible flower blossoms (optional)

    Directions

    1. Combine 6 ounces Lillet, 6 ounces grapefruit juice, 3 ounces gin, and ice in a cocktail shaker. Shake until well chilled. Strain and divide cocktail among 3 stemmed cocktail glasses, such as Champagne coupes. Repeat.
    2. Garnish with flowers. Serve immediately.

6 hr time difference from NYC (7 from Chicago).

Weather is 70 and sunny 2 days in a row—not what you northeasteners & midwesterners wanted to hear!

Didn’t drink at lunch because I knew I would in the evening—and boy, did I ever! Reception at the law firm included prosecco and an Aperol spritz—which will likely be my cocktail of choice back home as it’s not as bitter as a Negroni. Then later at dinner, I had a white wine from the Alto Adige—“Manna,” a blend of Pinot Grigio, Chardonnay, and a regional grape whose name escapes me. Wonderful—fruity, floral, bone-dry.

Off to a food tour followed by dinner. Life is tough. (Oh, and Alitalia upgraded me to Business Class for the flight back to JFK—guess the 120 Hasidim from the flight over won’t be flying back from Tel Aviv yet. No screaming babies this time, whew)!

Jazzy, I saw your pictures, beautiful and your gardens are looking nice. You've been a bizzy goilie!

What a pretty cocktail NM. LOL at having a pond now in the yard!

Sandy, a food tour and then dinner? Yay for no screaming babies.

We got things rolling for my mom, thanks to NM for the suggestion. I don't know why I didn't think of that. My brother called the social worker at the home, and hospice was out there in a matter of hours and we could possibly get mom moved as soon as Wednesday! I gave NM a call to thank her and we had a nice little phone chat.

Well, we may change our plans and go camping next week, instead of heading to Laughlin today. Still have a bit of a cold, but it's not too bad.

NM - I live in Central Alberta, not too far from the Rocky Mountains, believe it or not, we have snow almost every month of the year!! Of course it is only a small bit that melts quickly, but snow just the same!!! Yesterday's was not typical of mid April, but there it sits outside my windows :(

    Happy Tuesday everyone!!

Janky- sorry to hear you are on an Ibrance delay. Are you counts too low to continue right now? I hope things are better for you soon so you can continue sister. I know a few folks here up in Canada and know you are still getting snow. Spring comes sort of late to your latitude, yes?

Chi- ah Roma, you have fun sister. Last time I was to Italy, it was in the fall and the time difference was 9-10 hours depending on the day light savings going on then. It happened while we were out there and then came back here and it happened again a week later. The wines sound delish and glad you have good weather!

Goldie- glad to hear NM's suggestions helped you for your mom. I hope your cold continues to go away and you have some nice camping. Yesterday was great here, today the winds are up again. Thursday may be worse (dust storms predicted, ugh). Not great for my asthma?

Jazzygirl - my neutrophils after 1 week of were .4 :( I am doing anything possible to boost them and go for CBC Thursday a.m. after 2 weeks off, fingers, toes, everything crossed for a positive number so I can start Friday! Traditionally, where I live we should have trees budding, rhubarb pushing through - not this year...
