how about drinking?

I'm due for my last (I hope) Prolia shot next week. It's the bone-health version of denosumab, given twice a year; the version that's given more often (and may be stronger) for bone mets is called Xgeva.
Happy Red Wine Day (what's left of it)! So you know I had to make Pacific salmon for dinner. I Coravin-ed a couple ounces of 2015 Morgon, and Bob killed off the rest of The Federalist cab. sauv.

Good Morning, Loungettes!Happy Thirsty Thursday! Getting up to some rain this ayem. Apparently this is a storm front that is being remotely fed by the remnants of some tropical storm or former hurricane or some such. Supposed to rain all day, sometimes petty hard. Pretty foggy, too. There's already been a fatal car crash on a nearby stretch of road that is notorious for bad accidents. That's the 4th in as many months. That stretch of road has been tagged as "dangerous" by the DOT, "improvements" are planned, not sure when they will start. It's too late in the season to start any road work now. People drive like maniacs through there, people have been radared at more than 80 mph (it's a 5O mph area) pretty regularly. Scary sometimes. I always double check my seat belt, and Sadie's if she's with me, before hitting that stretch.Sadie says "Hi" to everyone.
Cammy Cat!Missed you the last couple of days!I hear you about the 2 ayem thing. I'm not sure how Sadie would react, either she'd go back to sleep and never notice that I was gone, or maybe I'd take her with me and she can sleep in my office while I'm in class. She'd love that! I love the way Dan spoils you and supports your shopping addiction. And good for you for taking care of the sick guy.Someone has to take care of the guys and you are the best for the job!
Goldie--Hmm,a timer to turn on the lights automatically? What a great idea, why didn't I think of that??? Going to look into that, it's a great idea!Glad to hear the doc treats the person and not the numbers. Praying for better numbers in 6 weeks.
Jazzy--I can just picture that conversation in the hallway with the f-bomb dropping and everyone coming to a standstill! Are you taking the long holiday weekend off?I know I'm looking forward to having it off!
Chi--Congrats on getting to the end of the Prolia run!

Mornin ladies,
Day late but happy wine day, that should be everyday.
Jazzy when isn't Janky on some kind of vacation??? She cracks me up.
Kim if bt some chance u do the 2am u should take sadie with u, she will keep u company and she always looks forward going anyplace with her.
I watched A SIMPLE FAVOR the other nite, thought it was based on a true story but no. It was very interesting and I liked it. It was the authors first book, now she has to top it.
Jazzy I did loose my crazy words til I started working with all men, now they come out so naturally I barely notice and when someone new starts they tell hime oh talk anyway u want to Camille she's like one of the guys. So I really don't care, gives me a chance to exercise my anger.Sunday is a party for the holiday and Dan's 2nd child 2 rs old. So I'm sure everyone will bring their kids, oh sounds like fun.
I fit the thirsty Thursday today, I'm So thirst this am. Loads of water now.
LUBS U ALL

Sandy, I take the Xgeva. They send it to my house and I give it to myself.
NM, can you take another route, so you are not on that bad stretch road? We use a timer for our lights when we are gone, we also have one that has lights, to make it look like a tv is on. All to make it look like we are home. Someone could get away with lots of stuff if they were to break in while we are gone. BUT....we have cameras too. Outside, in the house and in the warehouse!
Cami, where is the party on Sunday? Will you be going?
Heading to town today. Getting road food for our trip to Reno NV. Will be driving to Parump on Tuesday and then to Reno on Wednesday, be home Sunday. Also need to get a coffee maker, as ours took a dump yesterday. Temps here for the next 10 days are still in the 90's and pretty close to that in Reno while we are there.
Happy Thirsty Thursday!

Oh goodness! Yesterday was so much fun. I almost used the F-bomb numerous times out of frustration. Early in the day we lost water pressure. Called the water department and they did not know anything. My DH went out and found a group of workers up the street. They were supposed to be fixing a leak and had broken a 6” water pipe. We had no water until about 5:00pm. I had plenty of bottled water to drink, but could not flush the toilets. Of course I was hosting cards last night! Eight women drinking alcohol without having a working bathroom!?! Anyway, all worked out. We are boiling our drinking water and will do so for a few days. I am more concerned than usual because of the low WBC count.
Not sure about the possible hurricane. I think the weather people like to get everyone excited, then nothing happens. I would love to have a couple of days of steady (not hard) rain to end the summer with.
I have absolutely nothing to do today. My favorite! I plan on exercising a little, cleaning up what is left of the card game last night and sitting down for the rest of the day! I enjoy being busy, but love the no pressure days.
Enjoy the almost weekend day!!!!

Hi ladies- well the roofing company was just here and gave me a good estimate for a small leak to be fixed as well as just to tidy things up top. My roof was replaced in 2013 and was better than the original and he said things are in excellent shape for the most part, just some minor work. I will be waiting for them to call with available dates and will cram yet another thing in to Sept.
Cami- the funny thing about the doctor who dropped the F Bomb is that it was a woman! LOL. You go girl, but my other doc drops them to, more in meetings where we are sure the door is closed. Just always startles everyone, but we crack up later. My father swore like a sailor and thus, if I am around it, I can fall in to it too. But in the work place, we don't do that......
NM- yes, I am off this weekend, yay. Going to Santa Fe for a few days and a concert Sat night, then home to just relax on Labor Day (no laboring....)
Chi- I am glad you are getting your last Prolia shot. My bone health is not good enough to stop so I agreed to stay on them longer and have one coming up on 9/13. I have my biopsy that week, then the gyn the morning of the 13th and then the shot in the afternoon. Boy do I know how to have fun. Are you off the AI drugs?
Goldie- I forgot to wish you a happy birthday friend. Wishing you a better year ahead with good health, good times and no more problems like you have had this year. I liked that cute picture you posted on FB the other day dancing with that man whose name escapes me.....
Gotta get in the shower and off to work (ugh). No meetings today though so I hope to be more productive. The weekend is coming!

It's Thursday - Yayyyyy! hip hip hooray though I am not sure why - 'cause it's 'Thirsty'?! I sure as heck did not know it was Red Wine day yesterday, so I drank beer instead, will have to celebrate Red Wine day later today!
Jazzy and cami - ha ha - I don't travel that much, it just seems like it to some as my friends here kid me all the time too. I did spend a great week in Montreal catching up with family and school friends from almost 50 years ago, the weather and food were fantastic as always.
NM - I can never understand why people don't drive to the road conditions, we have so many unnecessary accidents here when it rains. Say hi to Sadie too!
Well today I am going to try the pickled green tomatoes, but won't have a verdict till next week as they need to 'pickle' I guess. I will let you know. I am going to do beets this weekend too, or at least these are what I want to do, my body just needs to cooperate! One of my medications knocks the stuffing out of me, and even though this is week off, I am pooped. Stay well everyone - Cheers!

Still on letrozole--not due to stop till 12/31/20. Will discuss it with my MO next Thurs., to see if I should get estrogen levels drawn or do the BCI test. With my Oncotype (16), the disease-free-survival benefit is something like 1-2% (or was when I started taking it--maybe the margin is even lower now). Never had estrogen levels tested. After reading an article in What'sNext.com about a UK study showing a 6-to-10-fold increased risk of cardiovascular disease even in cancer survivors who didn't get chemo (only AIs & rads), I will lay my concerns on the line to her. My lipids were always fine (especially HDL) before I started on the AI--wasn't even on a statin till a year into treatment. Low-carb dieting always had improved my lipids further before letrozole. My PCP says he's not worried because my Framingham score is so low (3, which means a 3% chance of a CV "event" over the next decade)--but I know cancer treatments were not factored into the Framingham studies as CV risks.
As you may well know, AIs raise "bad" blood lipids and lower HDLs; and statins, which correct that, raise blood sugar & a1c. Before letrozole & Crestor, my glucose never went over 95 and my a1c was in the low-to-mid 5s (we always monitored it because of a maternal family history of T2DM). My current a1c of 5.8 has my doctors very happy (it had peaked at 6.1 before my weight loss); but before cancer, it would have been worrisome as it's a decimal point over the threshold for prediabetes.
Also wonder whether drastic reduction in wine consumption--especially red--from a 5-oz. glass a day to an average of 2-3 per week may be partlly responsible for trashing my HDLs--which used to be high 80s-low 90s but now are only 53: fine for a man (>40) but not good for a woman (should be >60). Reducing wine may be good for weight control and ER+ recurrence prevention but not so hot overall.

Oh, and after having had to hit "edit" numerous times, anyone else here using a MacBook Pro circa 2017 & later experiencing certain keys (in my case "u" and "l") repeating inadvertently?

Bob just called: we have 7000 RCI points, only 1800 of which are expiring, but 1800 isn't enough to stay anywhere. We rolled the remaining 5200 over to next year, and we have 7000 HGV points next year too. So we're going wherever we feel like in Nov.
Here's the complication, though: the best Italian joint in the country (Spiaggia) is hosting a 9-day chef/owner-led trip to N. Italy (Milan, Verona, Venice, & Florence) this fall/winter 2019, but dates not yet announced. Bar Show sched. also not announced. Not sure if Bob can extend his time off (he'd love to) or I can get a dispensation to miss rehearsals. Also, N. Italy is a bit more carb-intensive than S.--which would be heavy on the fish, olives & veggies. Not gonna take a gourmet tour of N. Italy w/o eating at least a little pasta & bread each day. (Gelato is another story, sigh). At our ages (68 & 70), "YOLO" actually has significant meaning (as opposed to merely an excuse for millenials & Gen-Zers to party hearty). Perhaps the walking might offset the dietary damage--the only time I ever gained weight on vacation was this last trip to Israel, and it turned out to have been strictly water-retention from long flights (which disappeared after 2 days on Lasix).
Assuming the dates pan out, if you were me, what would you do??? (Yes, we can afford it).
If not that tour, we'l probably head out to the PNW (Seattle, Portland or Vancouver), the Bay Area (incl. Napa & Sonoma...or maybe the central coast). Not going anywhere near the Atlantic--weather will be wonky, even in late Nov.

Sandy, you know I’d go. I try to do almost anything/everything possible to see different places and have a good time.
By the way, I’ll be in Chicago for Riotfest the weekend after next. I’d love any restaurant recommendations you might have.

My laundry room is not very large so I had one of those washer/dryer combo things to be able to fit my chest freezer in there. When one breaks you and costs too much to fix you have to replace both. I decided to put the freezer in the shed and get a normal washer and dryer. So that is what I did today, they will be delivered next week so I need to get my freezer moved out to the shed. I figured I could put the fattening stuff out there, like ice cream, to have it not so easily accessible. I haven't shopped for washers in a long time, I didn't know they had changed so much. I finally told the salesman that I wanted a simple washer. He said you want old school, I smiled and nodded. I'm good with easy and old school.
Stores were crazy with people getting ready for the hurricane, their carts were loaded with water and other stuff. September 2nd would have been my wedding anniversary; September 24th was the day my husband died and I was thinking about how my children and I went through the year without him and we did ok, and that I just have to get through the wedding anniversary date, I even took off a few extra days from work. Now the hurricane is being thrown it the mix so I will have to get through that alone. I will be ok, and I am actually in an evacuation zone, so I might go to my daughters house if it seems like it will get too bad here. I think I will be ok, I am on the west coast about 70 miles north of Tampa, I think it might be just a really bad storm. ---I am hoping that's all anyway.--
Chi - you have a few 'ifs' to fit into the trip schedule. I would think about what place would make me come home and say 'I am so glad we chose this trip, it was great' . Do what makes your heart happy.
Illimae - have fun in Chicago and I bet Sandy can give you a list of the best restaurants to go to, she can tell you where to go to taste real true Chicago food.
NM and Jazzy enjoy your labor day time off and enjoy yourself.
Goldie- I like your doctor that said he treats the patient, I have my primary doctor that I think looks at blood tests and thats it. Hoping you are feeling well.
JC- Sorry about the water problem, but I think if all you ladies drank enough maybe you didn't notice so much the toilet not getting flushed.
Cami and Janky - I missed red wine day -- guess I will have to make up for it. For now though I will settle for a cup of tea w/ lemonCheers to all!

Ilona, I was thinking you might be a bit "mature" for Riotfest, then realized what your DH does for a living! It's in Douglas Park on the Near Southwest Side (same 'hood as Cinespace Chicago, where the interior scenes of the three Dick Wolf "Chicago" series & "Empire" are filmed). The immediate neighborhood is pretty much a restaurant desert--and the rest of the year, a pretty dicey area. But you could go a little north to Pilsen for Dusek's Bed & Board (attached to the concert venue Thalia Hall), which has a Michelin star--amazing for something so reasonable and hipster-casual. West of Pilsen is the Little Village neighborhood with some of the best and most authentic Mexican food in the city (just about everything on W. 26th St. is great). Here's a link (among those listed, I like La Chaparrita):
Little Village restaurants near Riot Fest
To the northeast of Douglas Park is Chinatown, where I recommend Triple Crown for seafood and Phoenix for dim sum & Peking duck. (Tourist trap Three Happiness ain't what it used to be. Avoid Lao Sze Chuan at all costs--it's a chain and rather "meh," ok for GrubHub ordering if nothing else is open, but that's not saying much).
And of course, further north is the River West/Fullton Market/Restaurant Row strip along and branching off Randolph: everyone wants to go to Girl & the Goat, but it's also lost a bit of its luster. Izard's other two places, Little Goat Diner and Duck Duck Goat, are much more imaginative and unfussy. City Winery has a separate restaurant room (the music room--mostly acoustic but some edgier acts--serves only wines and "American tapas"). East of that on Randolph we like Avec--Mediterranean, no reservations taken. Seats are not the comfiest, it's a bit noisy because of all the bare wood and glass, and you get seated at long refectory tables next to strangers, but the price is right and the food is fabulous (get the chorizo-stuffed dates). Best burgers are at Au Cheval & Small Cheval. Incredible pastas at Monteverde (chef Sara Gruenenberg had a miniseries on PBS). For real Roman pizza al taglio (rectangular slices, different and unusual toppings on each), there's Bonci--the only branch of the original in Rome. It's on S. Sangamon off Randolph.
Along W. Taylor St. (near the hospitals & United Center) are a bunch of Italian restaurants, some owned by the Stefani Group. We used to like Tuscany, but it's slipped quite a bit. Rosebud is good for huge portions of old-school red sauce Italian food. The neighborhood used to be "Little Italy" but is now mostly gentrified young professionals in condos & townhouses. But on W. 24 between Oakley & Western is an actual Italian neighborhood with some good (again, mostly southern Italian) restaurants.
There's also the legendary Greektown strip of S. Halsted between Madison & Van Buren near UIC. The tourists go to Greek Islands & Parthenon; but we like Santorini & Pegasus.
Food & Wine (that was the mag. with St. John on the cover) gave an honorable mention to Oriole--haven't tried it yet. If you haven't made a res for Alinea yet, it's too late--and they have a bit of a dress code anyway. North of Madison St. you can't go wrong with any of the Lettuce Entertain You group spots: we like Mon Ami Gabi the best for French and Cafe Ba-Ba-Ree-Ba for tapas.

Oh, and as for typical Chicago foods, deep-dish pizza (especially the River North tourist traps Uno and Due) is no longer the most popular style among locals (who prefer either coal-fired Italian thin crust or South Side ultra-thin "tavern style" with toppings all the way to the edges (no "collar") and hacked up into little "party cut" squares instead of wedges, to be able to feed a multitude of guests with a minimum number of pies. The best deep dish comes from any branch of the Giordano's chain. (There's also "stuffed," which is deep-dish with a second thin crust with sauce & cheese on top, sort of a "pizza pot pie"). On the S. Side, the go-to chain is Connie's (the official pizza of the White Sox), which is sort of a cross between deep-dish & thin crust.
There's Italian beef, which is roast beef simmered in a thin jus (which they call gravy), served on a hoagie roll (aka Italian bread or French roll) with your choice of sweet or hot peppers, dipped in the jus or not. Al's on Taylor St. (now an area-wide chain) is the original; Mr. Beef on N. Orleans near W. Grand is its rival (Jay Leno's choice; Michael Symon prefers Al's). Another quintessential Chicago food is "Italian lemonade," which isn't lemonade at all but sort of a cross between Italian ices, sorbetto and a slushie. Mario & Donna's across Taylor from Al's makes the best. All sorts of flavors plain & fancy, but they all come studded with pieces of lemon peel.
Then of course there are gyros: the lamb-beef loaf broiled on a rotating vertical spit and sliced as it browns, fallling into a waiting pita. (In London or Toronto, they call it "doner," after the spit called an "Auto-Doner"). And Chicago is a hot dog, not a burger, town (at least for "portable" food). Chicago hot dogs are all-beef koshers, steamed and served on poppyseed buns with all manner of stuff: besides mustard, onion (either raw chopped or grilled), tomato slices, Kellly-green sweet relish, hot "sport" (pickled serrano) peppers, jalapeños, etc. If you want "everything on it," tell them to "drag it through the garden." (As a Brooklyn kid raised on grilled franks with sauerkraut and brown deli mustard, I never really understood putting the contents of an entire vegetable crisper on a hot dog). A variation is the "Polish," which is a coarsely-ground beef knackwurst-size sausage that is flash-deep-fried before going on the bun, usually served with mustard, tomatoes and grilled onions. The two things one never orders on a Chicago dog: sauerkraut (that's too NYC) and (ugh) ketchup. Nobody orders chili dogs here either. There are hot dog, Italian beef and gyros stands (sometimes combined) all over town, and they're all pretty good if you're hungry.
You have great Indian food in Houston, but the best in Chicago is up north in my neck of the woods, along W. Devon Ave.
Even though Riot Fest has no "in & out privileges" a la Lolla, if your DH is working the fest you can come and go as you please. You might actually catch my son Gordy there, now that Vivid Seats gave him a promotion and he can take flex time. He never met a music festival he didn't like (well, not country).

Good Morning, Loungettes!Happy TGIF day! The rain and come and gone, the fog is pretty heavy this ayem, and the humidity is back to sultry levels. Had to turn the fans back on when I got home last night. Sadie was moving pretty slowly in the heat and humidity, flopped down in front of the big fan and just vegged. But she did jump up on the bed and sleep with me last night. I woke up to a paw in my face as she stretched! Better than waking up to her butt in my face!
Cammy Cat--isn't it fun what words you can learn from some people? The party sounds like a lot of fun. Hope you enjoy it very much!If I ever do a 2 ayem class, I probably will take Sadie with me, just to see how it goes!
Goldie--I can go another way to avoid that stretch of road, and sometimes do, but it's quite a bit longer, both in miles and time. At least now I don't have to drive that stretch every day. Unfortunately, Mom and Dick's road is off one end of that bad stretch, so I have to drive it to visit them. It's actually kind of funny, I will only go the speed limit, and sometimes not even that fast if it's raining, foggy or snowy, and wind up with a huge long line of cars behind me that obviously want to be going faster. I like to think I've save a few lives that way! Enjoy your trip.Sounds like fun!
Librarian--Gotta love how the water department didn't know about what their own people were doing! The probably hadn't reported the break to avoid getting into trouble, as if it wouldn't come out eventually. And, of course, the timing is just horrible! Glad the card party went ok. Probably a good idea to boil the drinking water for a while. I think the weather people are a bit excitable, too. I can remember when the winter forecast would be for snow, much like for rain in the summer, now every time it's going to snow it's a "snow even" or "storm of the century". No wonder everyone is surprised when a true snow storm comes through, we've been conditioned to associate "snow storm" with one inch!
Jazzy--Hooray for long weekends with no work planned!
Janky--so many drivers seem to think the speed limit is the minimum speed, to my mind. One problem with that stretch of road is that it looks good, so people don't think and speed up. Or they just don't give themselves enough time to get where they are going at safe speeds. And often, as in this last case, alcohol is involved. There was more on the news this morning, a guy driving a jeep crossed the center line, hit a pick up head on, ended up rolling down the side of the road, got thrown from the car and died. Apparently, he had been drinking. Sadie says "woof" back to ya!
Chi--our bodies are so complex, try to change one thing and so many others change, too, and not always for the better. So confusing and frustrating! I would jump at a chance to go to Italy, even more so on a Chef led tour! That would be my vote, hands down. Long trip water weight gain can be managed, the experience would be priceless.
Illi--I'm with you, experience the good stuff while it's possible!
Misty--some things are just better, old school and simple. Some things just don't have to be so complicated! I do hope the hurricane does just come through as a bad storm. Please keep and eye on things and go to your daughter's if it seems prudent.
Chocolate Hurricane

- 1 oz Coconut Rum
- 1 splash Lemon Juice
- 1 oz Orange Juice

JCS, hoping Dorian only brings you some rain. My daughter faired well from it, just wind and rain. But now it is picking up. As for the F bomb, I use it all the time, it's just like any other word in my vocabulary. Of course I behave when in front of people I don't think would appreciate it. My MO said GD when I was there Monday, that is one cuss word I DON'T use.
Jazzy, have a great time in SF, you certainly need it right now. Sorry about the roof problems, but glad they are minimal. Thank you for the birthday wishes, and yes, hoping for a better year, def. went throught alot this year. The actor is Darby Hinton. We were watchting a movie the other night about the Donner party. There was an actor in it that I had said to my husband that he looked like Darby. Low and behold, the credits started and both of us spotted his name!
Janky, wish I could come over and help you can. So much easier when you have help!
Illimae, have fun in Chi town. What is Riot Fest? I too laughed and all the drinking ladies and a toilet that didn't work!
Misty, I would like a new washer, but mine still works! I hate the agitater in it, always twists my clothes, sheets and towels. Wow, it sure doesn't seem like it's been almost a year since the passing of your husband. I hope the anniversary isn't too hard on you and that the hurricane won't make it harder. Stay safe.
NM, is that strectch of road just 2 lanes, one going each way? So the long line of cars are just waiting to pass? The biggest problem in the Phoenix area is people getting on the freeway going the WRONG WAY! Usually in the middle of night or super early morning hours and alcohol or drugs are usually involved, but the crashes are horrendous and often kill people. Interesting DOTD.
Me and Darby

Yayyy It is Friday (though it can always be Friday when retired)! It looks like the sun is trying to shine, sure hope so!
Misty - Stay safe and clean during the hurricane, hopefully it passes right over. I hope your washer works out well - like goldie's mine twists all my sheets, towels and stuff, so very annoying! goldie I wish you could help with the canning too, I used to do it with friends, but everyone is so busy with their own stuff it is difficult - we will see! Oh and next year we can all try and toast on 'Red Wine' Day!!
chi - you seem to have tried every food venue in Chicago - lucky you! That is one city I would like to spend some time exploring, illimae, have fun!!-
NM - your dotd looks yummy! I would bring Sadie to a 2 ayem class as well, company for both of you in the wee hours! Stay safe on the long weekend roads if you and Sadie go visiting.
Jazzy and anyone else travelling (not me as you can see) have fun and stay safe!
I am off to see what Friday brings, wishing all a safe, healthy, happy weekend, and to each and everyone here - Cheers!

Sandy, thank you for all the tips, Since I’m in Texas, I’ll probably skip Mexican, which I eat pretty regularly but many others sounded great and I’ll definitely have to try the deep dish pizza.
DH won’t be there, he’s got a cross country tour. I’m meeting with my BFF in Milwaukee and we’ll stay with her cousin in Chicago for the weekend. While I’m a pretty active stage IV girl, I did pay extra for the VIP passes, which give us a shaded lounge and seating area to rest between bands and those come with in/out privileges, so we could Uber locally.
I LOL’d at “mature”, I am 44 and have a fairly adult life but in many ways I’m still 21. The main draws for this fest are B52’s (seen before but love to see again), The Selector (Two Tone English 80’s Ska band, I’ve seen all others featured in the Dance Craze documentary except one, this is a rare treat) and Ween (seen before but they are hilarious and are our soundtrack to the 92-96 timeframe, such good times back then).

Be safe everyone in the path of the hurricane

Went to the bank today whom hold my my mortgage to discuss the pay off this fall. I tried to get a hold of summer over the phone with the mortgage dept but you know where that goes "Press X for any topic except the one you need help with." So I went in to the local branch and they called someone and I got everything answered. As of today, my balance is at a point where I will now get I now go from getting mortgage statements to "pay off statements". With the info I got, I will now know how to do the rest through year end and will wait until the last tax payment is made in October before I consider the final check to be written for the last of it. I can't tell you how excited I am!
0 -
Illi - sounds like you are going to have a blast! 44 going on 21 sounds like lots of fun, as do you! Enjoy.
Jazzy - how very exciting to get to the 'pay off' point! So very happy for you.
Stay safe and dry if the hurricane is in your area - and to everyone else of course - Cheers!

I was able to get the chemo infusion this morning. My ANC was 1.6. That is low, but not too low for chemo. It had actually gone up since Monday. Fingers crossed we can get the whole cycle done.
Sports weekend ahead! College football. Southern 500 NASCAR race. Pro football. I have four books to read while most of that is going on!
Goldie, I love the picture. Illimae, what part of Houston do you live in? My sister is outside of Conroe. Her kids live in Tomball and Katy. I hope to go visit her in November. Wish I were making plans for an Italy trip! I have been to several cities and Capri, but need to see Venice before it is too late. I have a cousin in Seattle I need to visit then could make a trip to Vancouver. Gotta get out from under some of these infusions, tests, and appointments.Jazzy, We paid off our house before I retired. Having no debt is an incredibly freeing feeling.
Good grief! The hurricane is now forecast to brush the coast of SC. We are about 200 miles from the coast. Might get some rain, but no wind as we will be on the ‘good side.’ It won’t get here until Thursday or Friday. Fingers crossed Florida does not get a direct hit.
Enjoy the Labor Day Weekend! We will grill something and watch sports. 🍔🍺 🏈

JCS, I’m in NW Houston, northeast of Katy near the Bear Creek area.
Jazzy, yay on being close to the big payoff!

Hi ladies,
wow am I late, I've been so tired lately I literally fall asleep while I'm typing, not so good for work.
Misty it's been almost a year now, I'm sure it's a sad time. I'm sorry
Hurricane season must be starting already, how I pray it will be easier this yr. than last. Of course any kind is bad but it would be great if they quiet down before they hit ground, the rain and wind is bad enough. That means tornado season will be starting here, it's really scary when u see them even in a distance. If noone ever got hurt I'd be all right with it.
Illi ur a baby Oh Lordy u can fit in any crowd. Asking Sandy about restaurants is asking Edison how the light bulb works. Holy chit I don't even know all of them. I do know some, been there, and Sandy's right about where to look for them and what to order. That's the tricky part getting the right thing from the right place.
JC no toilet with women drinking, OMG that's like a cat without a litter box. It seems like u got thru it all right.
Jazzy Congrats. paying off ur home and no more mortgage is the best feeling. U've worked hard for it.
Kim I forgot u've already done it or it will be soon Whatever it i ur best is having Sadie.
Lori ur going away again. Holy chit u can't stay still. Oh the party is at Dan's <as usual> There will be a whole pig and Lamb. Not for me. Dan's wife is Greek and her Dad always comes and cooks for them and everyone bring dishes around it. I think I'll bring an appetizer the easiest thing when I do it.And it actually looks like I've put work into it. Of course everyone knows me. So u know very little effort goes into making it. Does anyone member buying bakery bread not sliced, cutting off all crusts and slicing it across and filling it with like egg, ham, chicken or tuna salads and frosting it with soft cream cheese. hahaha It was usually for home showers or home made <which I did make> cream puffs and the same fillings then dessert fillings. I'm blabbering I know it. Now a shower costs more than chartering a bus for a weekend outing. See that's why I forgot how to make things, it's all the buses fault.
Janky somewhere along the line I don't remember where u live. But it never seems like u get caught up with weather mania.
Oh Jazzy when u said u were going to take a shower, I got jelly for a second. How I would love to just take a shower whenever I felt like it. Since I have to be helped it's always planned, chair has to be put in, towels all ready soapy stuff ready but I can wash myself so I really shouldn't complain, but I am anyway. Like usual..

Ilona, Bob asked me the other night whether I wanted to see the B-52s at Riot Fest. He had no idea what Riot Fest is--when I told him it's mostly edgy (I like Ween but he's never heard of them) and pretty much standing up to watch the bands (his knees are now as bad as mine were before I hd them replaced), he sort of backed off. I will check out that VIP area, though--Gordy might have a pipeline, as he's now been promoted from customer service to fraud investigations at Vivid Seats. Last night, one of his duties was to attend a preseason Bears game at Soldier Field...in the company skybox! Life is hard.
We have a Piemonte wine pairing dinner coming up at Cellars on 9/25. Checked the menu, and it's much less carb-y than the past few dinners. No Barolos, but there will be a Barbera & a Barbaresco (as well as Pinot Grigio, Gavi, & brut prosecco). Tonight, with salad and a large antipasto I threw together, I had a San Pellegrino Essenza Lemon & Lemon Zest seltzer.
Oh, and the scale says I've lost 15 lbs. since starting the diet and 30 overall since April! Things that didn't fit last month do now. Alas, my feet haven't gotten any smaller!
Dorian has become a Cat. 4, but appears to be shifting--currently threatening the northern Bahamas and then skirting J'ville and the coasts of GA & the Carolinas before winding down to a Cat. 1 or tropical storm and heading back out to sea off Cape Hatteras...next Friday. FL evacuation recommendations have shifted n. to Brevard & Martin Co. (Treasure to Space Coasts) instead of the Miami-to-Palm Beach corridor. One hopes that the waters off northern NC and VA are too cool for it to regain strength and head for New England & the Maritimes.

I loved when my cat did this to me.

Mornin' ladies,
OMG Sandy what a great job Gordy has. He'll be first on the list for lots of stuff. Does Leslie get to go with him, if she wants. Either way I'm glad for him. U already have the end of Sept. figured out. I'm not sure what the date is now unless I really look. Congrats on the weight loss, u really r disciplined, as I've said before. For some reason I think of Bob as the type of Dr. that people don't want to retire and he doesn't either. Did u retire cuz of cancer or were u getting ready to. Cuz I know u have ur music and u love doing that. U seem like u have more passion for music than u did with law, I know my brother worked til the end, he loved law and when he did pass a law he was thrilled. I'm so glad he lived a life that he really enjoyed and my other brother did too. I have missed all the dinners and stuff my brother would always include my sister and me, I was lucky I made some nice friends they'd call just to see if everything was going OK. Of course they have all passed now but I do miss them. So we got to get in my brothers fun stuff, <both of them actually>
SHOWER DAY LOL have to find my towels <certain ones> and get them in certain places. It's kind of funny how everything is set up actually Oh well.. I told u when Dan was looking up all these terrible things I could have I got so mad at him I told him he started me cutting again. He felt horrible and came over stupid I was cutting my hair Oh men they live in another realm. But u should see my hair Oy vey.
Hoping there is no rain, we're supposed to get some but maybe in the dark of nite. Sounds almost poetic.

Good Morning, Loungettes!Happy Saturday!Happy first day of Long Weekend! Looks like it's going to be a nice weekend here, with maybe some rain on Monday. I hope any rain holds off until after the parades and such for those who march and those who watch. It's going to be nice to have a bit of a work break. Not that anything at work is going badly, just that it's intense at times. And Sadie will love the extra attention!
Goldie--the bad stretch of road is primarily one lane each way, about 20 miles long, with 3 areas with passing lanes going in each direction. It's the main route to Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park from Bangor International Airport. In the summer the traffic is often bumper to bumper going toward the Park in the mornings and coming from the park in the afternoons. The fatal crashes are usually head-ons, with one car crossing the center line. These are usually at night, or during the morning commute, and often involve alcohol. The everyday accidents (and there is usually at least one a day during high traffic times) tend to be rear-enders, one driver not paying attention to the car ahead but at slow speeds so damage is minimal but the road gets tied up even more. We don't get a lot of wrong way driving here, when it does happen it's usually an elderly driver that got confused. Unfortunately, high speed and very high speed chases are getting more common, those are usually drug sales and drug use related.
Janky--If I do have a 2 ayem class, I am definitely taking Sadie with! She will be good company and I'm betting no one will show up anyway. There's always an excuse. Not planning to go anywhere but locally this weekend.I may treat myself to a visit to a local distillery or winery if I get the To Do list taken care of.
Illi--sounds like a great trip you have planned!Love the idea of VIP passes and extra amenities.Enjoy!
Jazzy--WooHoo!Paying off the mortgage is a wonderful feeling!Sounds like you've got a great plan in place.Let us know when it happens so we can have a celebration!
Librarian--Hooray for the counts staying up and moving in the right direction! Hope you will be safe from the hurricane. Sounds like it could be a bit of storm for some folks.
Cammy Cat--tornadoes terrify me more than any other weather phenomenon. There can be no warning for a tornado. At least with hurricanes and blizzards and other severe weather there is some warning. Like you say, if only no one ever got hurt, it would be ok. Wow, a whole pig and a lamb? How many people are getting fed? A small army? Sounds yummy, though. I hear you about busses making us forget how to cook things!
Chi--Congrats on the weight loss! Gordy's job sounds like it has lots of opportunities for fun and excitement! Good for him.
