Good Morning, Loungettes!Sadie and I had a good day yesterday. We went "down to the island" (back to Mt. Desert Island) to visit with family,Sadie got lots of attention and loved it. I got to catch up on a lot of family gossip. Mom's property is there, too, and she was down working or organizing stuff for a yard sale next weekend. So Sadie and I will be going back down next weekend to help with that. I'll be getting home late tonight, the first of many CPR classes is this afternoon. Going to have to pick up some special treats to keep her happy this week.

    Jazzy--WOW, what a pic!

Cammy Cat--Glad to hear you are starting to feel better. And glad you feel comfortable coming to the Lounge. It is a spot of sanity in an insane world!

Librarian--Now and through the winter is a good time to look at CSAs. There are a few around here that have a program where if you buy a $100 share early on, you get $125 worth of credit at the markets. But it can be more work to find and get to the markets. Happy you got through a Friday the 13th treatment.

Janky--There's a saying in the medical community that you are a lot better off financially if you get cancer and don't have insurance. There are a ton of programs that insure uninsured people get treatment at practically no cost, while people insurance, even "good" insurance, end up bankrupted by the co-pays, deductibles, co-insurances, travel, lost work pay, and have a lot more stress due to the constant wrangling with the insurance companies over pre-authorizations, denials and other hassles. So not fair. Good luck with your table. It can be hard moving all those little but valuable items.

Jazzy--That jumping hurdles every time you turn around is exhausting. You have every right to be a bit grumpy and cranky.

Chi--Wow, you have entertaining dreams! Did you name the odd doggo breeds that came to visit you? Love the pony-sized one with polka-dots. Did they all try to sleep with you in your dream?

Cammie Cat--Yuck, hate when the post stealing gremlin strikes. That Netflix series must be pretty good, I'll have to check it out.

    Goldie--Love the drinking days!

    DOTD:

    Here Today

    Ingredients

Drop the lemon juice into an old-fashioned glass with the gin. Garnish with a maraschino cherry, and serve.

Best served in a Old-Fashioned Glass.

Good Morning, Loungettes! Happy Twofer Tuesday! so far Sadie is still a happy pup. No one came for the afternoon CPR class, so I got to go home a little early. Got people signed up for both ayem and peeyem classes today, so a long day today, but that's ok. The big news around here is a propane explosion that flattened a business, killed a firefighter and injured 6 firefighters and 1 civilian. Most of the injured have been flown to a bigger hospital and are in intensive care, one was flown to Mass General in Boston.

Image may contain: sky, outdoor and nature

Nothing left of the brand new building.

Lots of prayers being said today.

The maintenance man smelled propane, evacuated the staff as he was calling the fire department. The explosion happened minutes after the FD arrived. He was inside with the Firefighters and is the only civilian hurt. The Firefighter that was killed has a brother that was also injured.

OMG, NativeMainer! That must have been a huge explosion. I do not understand why there are so many gas leaks causing these dangerous explosions. Is it a building mistake or a human mistake? I did leave my gas stovetop barely on one night. No flame, just the gas leaking. You could really smell it the next morning. I have learned from my mistake!

Still really hot here. Might “cool” down to the upper 80’s toward the end of the week. I am ready for cooler temps and some easy rain. We seem to have two seasons here; hot and less hot. I want to enjoy my week off from chemo so plan on some hiking midweek and visiting a friend at their “gentleman’s” farm about an hour from here. Would love to see the Downton Abbey movie, but will likely wait until the hub-bub dies down.

Jazzy and Janky - hope your eye surgeries are on target and going well. Cami - looks like you are feeling better. Love the cat pictures! Sandy - hope you find some comfortable shoes soon. I bought some new Hokas for walking with an orthotic that holds my heel. They are a light khaki color and are very comfortable. Everyone take care and have a great week

NM, that is just so sad and wrong that people w/o insurance are better off. It costs us shit ton of money, I'm sure I would be sick to my stomach if I knew how much we have put out in the last 11 years since my diagnosis. Hadn't heard on the news about that explosion, prayers for everyone in the hospital and for the family of the one that died. Do they know how it happened? I see one person smelled the propane, but the explosion didn't happen until after the FD arrived. Good call on that guy to evacuate everyone. Sorry you drove to work for the class and it was a no show. You still get paid right?

We have someone coming to pick up our pellet stove today. The thing weighs over 400 lbs, they better not drop it on my floor! We have a new one to be installed at a later date. Got some cleaning to do, having company on Thursday, it's a couple that will be going camping with us. Leaving Friday morning and will be back a week from that Sunday.

NM - I think you are right about drug coverage, one of my sisters had to declare bankruptcy due to medical bills - sadly, once your 'good' insurance stops paying you are hooped! Thankfully she recouped and has worked it all out! I am looking at numbers and for the cost of this shot of Xgeva, my DH and I can go on an all inclusive holiday to many places, so do I risk 'dying' and stay home to pay for meds or do I say 'screw it' I'm going on vacation - ugh, I detest cancer!! Wow - that is quite the photos!

goldie - I love your 'calendar', that is what I am thinking too! I am going to bring in my tomatoes today as I go for the cataract tomorrow, and won't be able to bend, lift etc. so I figure if they are picked and ready to do something with, maybe something will get done ;) (or not).

chi - glad you are getting the iron deficiency straightened out, honestly, if it is not one thing it is another on this journey we don't really want to be taking!

jazzy - wishing you a speedy healing from your cataract surgery today, and look forward to us 'seeing' things more clearly in the not too distant future!

helloooooo teka, misty, mema, illi, JCS, cami,, and everyone else - I will be out of commission for a couple of days post cataract surgery tomorrow, but my thoughts are here, enjoy the rest of the week, catch up soon... Cheers Janice

Good Morning, Loungettes!Happy Hump Day! I had a fun CPR class last evening, and am surprised that I'm not more stiff and sore this ayem. Sadie was a little miffed with me getting home late, but she forgave me after a bunch of belly rubs and ear scratches and my telling her all about the class. Nobody is signed up for this morning's class, that morning time doesn't seem to work well. Tomorrow I get to sleep in a bit and then have a late evening class. I may take Sadie in with me for that one, I'll have to think about it.

Librarian--The explosion is still under investigation. What is known is that the building is very new. Propane was delivered on Friday. The maintenance man found the tank empty, smelled the propane and evacuated the building first thing when he got in. He is in the burn unit at Mass General still in critical condition. The building is on the main road of the small town, and is still shut down as the investigation continues. It's so scary.

Cammy Cat--it's really hard to set up a class schedule that works for everyone, or at least a majority of the staff. And the attitude that "if it's not convenient I don't have to do it" doesn't help. I keep working at it, someday I'll find that sweet spot. Glad to hear you are still getting better, however slowly. That's a good thing!

Goldie--I doubt that explosion will go beyond local news. Things like that in Maine rarely make national news for some reason. It sure is making the news here and probably will for a while. I do get paid for my work time even if no one shows up for class.Instead of staying late I left work at my usual time. Wow, 400 pounds? I hope the people coming have some tools or something to work with to help with all that weight. Have a good camping trip! And that apple & gin sounds fantastic! A good excuse to go to the local distillery and get some gin and the apple cider has just started coming available!

Janky--out entire health care system needs a total overhaul. It's gotten crazy. Glad your sister got everything worked out. The choices it forces people into are just horrendous sometimes. Good luck with the surgery, and poop in when you can!

    Morning, Jazzy!

Janky, I know things are different in Canada, but I get help with my meds and pay zero for my xgeva, otherwise I think it's a couple thousand dollars! Rediculous! Good luck today.

Jazzy, when is your eye surgery and are you on the all clear with the thyroid or are you still waiting on that? Hmmmm, I went back a page to check for your surgery date but didn't see it. But from Janky's post, you had it already? If so, I hope you are doing well.

JCS, thank goodness we can smell the gas that comes from a stove, I too have done that many a time!

NM, let us know if you try that apple cocktail. Good to know you still get paid when there are no shows and I'm sure Sadie would love to go with you to work!

The removal of the stove went without a hitch, but did cost over $600 to remove it and an install the new one! The company we bought our old stove from wanted like $1500 dollars to do it. Heading to town for some last minute shopping for our camping trip, friends that are going with us will visit on Thursday to see our house and then camp on our property in town Thursday night and we all leave on Friday. Pretty sure we won't have internet, just our hot spots on the phone, which is limited and I can't use up bandwith for pleasure reasons as we will need to check on work things occasionally and make sure there are no problems.

And yet another hurricane (Jerry) headed towards my DD. Not expected until Friday. Will need to keep an eye on that one.

Hi ladies- it's surgery day tomorrow and the drops have begun! i got the call yesterday from the surgery schedules to be sure I am good to go, have my drops, have a driver, etc. Surgery late tomorrow morning, follow up the next morning and then hopefully will be on my way with leftie.

I did not get any final results on the thyroid yet, although i was told the final results should be to my doctor within two days which should have been Friday. I know my PCP does not work Friday so I expected to her on Monday and when I didn't, I pinged her on the portal and she said she had not seen the report yet but would follow up on it. So naturally, I started going down the rabbit hole on Monday, thinking "oh no, they found something bad in the final analysis." But then I pulled myself out of that and said everything is always later than anyone says it will be. I really wanted to have this all resolved before I headed into this week, but honestly don't want to hear any bad news at this point the day before eye surgery. My PCP also knows i am having eye surgery tomorrow too. Fingers crossed the finals will be as good as the preliminary results. But I am parking the thyroid stuff until next week.

NM- that is a terrible explosion they had. I hope the community recovers easily. We have natural gas out here for most heating of homes and businesses, and explosions with any type of gas are very serious.

Goldie- thanks for thinking of me and Janky is a day ahead of me today on her surgery, I go tomorrow!

Okay ladies, will be in touch later this weekend. Even if all is well at my follow up, I am staying off the computer until Sunday to help my eye heal better. I am planning to resume work at the client site by Monday, so I will need to get on line before I head back in and also to let you know how things go.

I will leave you with this which I saw on the news this morning. I am a swimmer as some of you know (although I will be out of the pool for awhile post eye surgery) and saw this woman completed the swimming of the English Channel 4X and she is a bc survivor too.

CHIT AGAIN I LOST MY POST.

I was wishing all eyes would turn out relly good healing and stay off puter.

Kim just take Sadie with u, she loves it nd it's good for u too. And nowadays it's easier to not have insurance than it is to have it. U don't have any copays and don't owe a dime and much less paper work. Somehow something just doesn't seem right.

Wow Lori u'll be gone for a while this time. As long as u enjoy it great for u.

Sandy good thing ur getting everything straightened out. Sometimes it takes so long before counts are good. Mine are still all screwed up, but not enough to put me in the hospital, so I'm thankful but confusion in the meantime.

It's nice to see all u gals poop in we all miss each other.

My phones started around 6am this morning and were busy, it's never a guideline for what's happening for sure. I'm so glad when the office opens even tho I still get calls it's not like when I'm alone. And my niece comes this morning for my shower, and always so glad when it's done LOL Except I'm ready for a nap now...I'm so lazy. OK I have to get my towels and stuff all ready and pick my soap, I think I'll go with Philosophy today, I like that, some kind of raspberry creme, sounds good to eat.

    Have a well day everyone.

OMG, Kim—that explosion was horrendous! I never trusted propane, but I guess out in rural areas there are no natural gas lines and electricity for heat & cooking can get pricy.

Cami, that black kitty photo—that's my Heidi! (Only she hates getting her nails done; would never sit still long enough to get them filed instead of clipped; took three of us today—the vet tech & I to hold her down while the vet did the clipping). image

She's waiting patiently on the scale (thinks it's a cradle) for her well-baby exam to begin; she had no idea yet she was also in for a pedicure. We took Happy in on Monday for his shots & exam, plus bloodwork to investigate his intermittent bulimia (well, the overeating part is not intermittent). His liver enzymes (ATK) came back slightly elevated, so he will need an ultrasound of his liver & pancreas and perhaps bile solid levels as well (a fasting blood test—good luck keeping him NPO long enough beforehand). He was not delighted about getting his pedicure, but it was done out back behind the scenes. He is already assiduously sharpening his claws again on the scratching post and (alas) our new wicker laundry hamper. (Why do they make 'em all out of wicker)?

So Monday I went out in search of a foot-bath spa (Target was sold out so I got a plastic dishpan) and various things to treat my poor ingrown toenail and calluses. Tried that Dr.Scholl's ingrown toenail relief stuff—smells like rotten eggs and the retaining ring and bandage made it hurt so bad I awoke in the night screaming—even the touch of the bedsheet sent me nearly through the ceiling. It took lidocaine roll-on and a blob of CBD balm to get it quieted down enough to put a loose band-aid on it so I could sleep. My regular podiatrist is way up at Glenbrook Hospital (I'm on the n. Lakefront) and doesn't take walk-ins, so I Googled and found a neighborhood guy who does (coincidentally, his receptionist turns out to be the wife of our electrician and one of my Nextdoor blog pen pals—I had no idea till I checked in). He did shave down the part of the nail that was digging in and inflaming the skin (short of an infection, whew); I can wear socks & closed shoes again. By Sat. I no longer need to bandage it and can reapply the polish I had to remove—we have the first hospital gala of the season that night. (Friday night I have a gig in Madison but nobody's gonna be looking at my feet. Supposed to be hotter than blazes, even up in WI, so I'll be wearing sandals. Maybe I’ll paint the band-aid the same shade of pink).

Jazzy & Janky, good luck with the cataract surgeries. Set your devices to voice recognition and you won't have to use your eyes as much for going online. Lay in a pair of non-prescription shades just in case you get a burst capillary and want to look like an international woman of mystery. (And wear the protective super-dark shades they'll give you over them when out in daylight)

DOTD tonight, with a steak I grilled, was some of that 2013 Morgon Cote de Puy.

Good Morning, Loungettes!Sadie and I enjoyed a lovely sleep in this ayem.Going in to work later for an evening CPR class, so far only 1 person is signed up, so it should be pretty short.I hope at least one other person decides to join in, it's so much easier with at least 2 students, but what will be, will be. I'm thinking about taking Sadie in with me today, we can do the visitationrounds before class, and, hopefully, she'll nap during the class, but I think she'll want to "help" with the practice sessions. Haven't decided yet.

Goldie--Wow, that's a lot of money for removing one and installing another stove! I suppose the weight has a lot to do with it. Have a good time visiting and camping, don't blame you for not being on line much, it's good to get a break from time to time. Praying DD stays safe from this next hurricane.

Jazzy--Good luck with the surgery, and good idea to stay off the computer for a bit after. Still praying for B9 biopsy results. I really wish they wouldn't give a time frame for getting results, it never happens that way and so many people get so freaked out with the waiting, and it's not necessary. The town where the explosion happened and surrounding towns are pulling together.Almost the entire Fire Dept was involved, and other towns are covering that station until people get back on their feet. 3 are still listed in Critical condition. WOW, swimming the English Channel 4 times without stopping, what a feat!

Cammie Cat--Our whole health care system isn't right any more. I just read an article about how doctors aren't even looking at or taking histories from patients any more, it's all about the computers and the electronic records. Apparently most insurance companies think computers can do a better job at diagnosing and managing treatment than a doctor. Of course, a computer can be programmed to always choose the least expensive option and probably save lots of money. The thought drives me crazy. Enjoy your shower!

Chi--Natural gas is not an option in most of the state. Good Lord, ELECTRICITY isn't an option still in remote parts of the state! And electricity is notoriously unreliable, especially in the winter. Propane and oil have been the mainstays, and often the only choices, for most of the state for ages. Heidi is beautiful! I can see from the look in her eyes that she's a feisty one, though. I can imagine it took some work getting her nails done. You were really lucky to find a podiatrist you could get in to see so quickly.I've never heard of getting in to see one in less than 2 to 3 months, or taking walk ins, ever!

    mornin ladies,

Sandy ur cat is beautiful. What a pose. Sounds like ur healing well. Wow I miss mine all the time.

Cat with the glasses are for u gals and ur surgeries, special.

Kim this CPR class sounds like more trouble. U'd think it would be full, unless most people know how to do it. But for sure take Sadie. I always tell u that, cuz I know I would. And I'm a nag. I like the color of the DOTD, looks yummy.

OK QUESTION ladies. Leslie had to go to another Dr. yesterday for who the hell knows, anyway he said he never saw anything like this. Besides her tangled things going on in her arm he found that when she had radiation her skin in an area was actually burnt on to the bones in the area and they have to remove the skin??? Is this possible. I told u gals it's always something stupid here.

My sister is coming over today for lunch <one of her DD's is driving her> so we can see each other. U'd think we lived hours away. It's about 20 mins. They'll stop and pick up stuff so Les doesn't have to go to the store. Plus it's homecoming weekend and Joey needs a new pair of shoes for the dance so she'll go later. hahaha she just called to take our order. They'll stop at Portillo's <some of u know this place> it started in the early 60;s around here and my BFF got her 1st job in this little tiny hot dog stand, 12x12 spot and now it's all over the place. Huge buildings. We should have invested. LOLHe was just a few yrs. older than us too.

Hope everyone has a good day today.

Cami - I know you can get something called necrosis from rads. I have lumps of dead tissue from rads on both sides. Burnt to the bone sounds wrong, did they over radiate ? Check the rads threads or post a question there ?

Hi ladies - I am feeling great and can now read road signs, but realize that close up stuff is crap, so I will need readers I am thinking, but that's okay. Hope you're doing well too jazzy?!

cami I love the cat with shades on - looks just like me, and maybe jazzy too - shades on, shades off, shades on...Hind sight is always 20/20 - I would be incredibly wealthy if I had done a few things when I had opportunity, oh well.

chi - Heidi is beautiful, my first and cherished cat, Opal, was black and beautiful as well. I love your meal postings, always sound so delicious!

Well that is it for now as I don't want to spend too much time on computer for a few more days. Thanks for all the good wishes I am sure they have helped with my recovery :) Have a great weekend to all - cheers!

    LOST ANOTHER POST.

U gals should be off the puter for now, stubborn. I've heard of necrosis but this isn't what Leslie has. According to this dr. of 20 yrs. he has never seen this before. She for now has postponed the next 2 operations. She's just to overwrought with all this crap. Right now she is writing a blog and someone from Canada is interwsted in a partnership for more than a blog. So she's keeping herself busy.

Lunch wasgood Joey was home and he enjoys being with older people so much and did the cleaning and vacuumed, so he's a big help. He went to the football game tonite and the dance will be tonite Jodie said she'll be here early for my shower, get that over with early then I've got the phones today so I'd better stay awake.

    Have a good day ladies

Good Morning, Loungettes!Well, my Thursday got interesting. I was opening a can of corn to have for lunch, using a manual can opener, which doesn't always work well, so I had to pry the lid off the can and my hand slipped. Yup, nice 4 cm slice across the side of my hand, now being held together with 5 stitches. Of course, it's my right (dominant) hand. Driving myself to the ER was interesting. Did you know that one can shift a manual transmission whilst holding a dish towel wrapped around that hand?Fortunately the ED is only about 10 miles away and didn't need to do much shifting. Then I went in to work, had one person signed up for the evening CPR class, and she didn't show. Now I have to work up a schedule to pull people off the floor during their work shift for classes. I know things come up and plans have to change, but what ever happened to good manners and letting other people know?Mom's having a yard sale down on her property this weekend, I said I'd go help, so I better get my butt in gear and get moving. Taking Sadie with, so she'll have some fun today.

Cammy Cat--this CPR thing is turning into a pain in the anatomy. How can people doing a professional type job need to be managed like kindergarteners? Sheesh! What happened to Leslie with the radiation is indeed possible. It 's what happened to me. It's called radiation necrosis, it happens when the radiation destroys the tiny blood vessels and then the tissue dies from lack of oxygen. I had that breast removed after rads due to radiation necrosis and all the pain and infections it was causing.

Janky--Glad to hear you are doing well!Maybe the close up stuff will come into focus with a little more time?

Illi--glad to hear you are safe! That Lemmy sounds wonderful!

Cammy--Poor Leslie. Praying for her. Hope Joey has fun!
