how about drinking?

Oh, Lori & Jazzy, hoping things take a turn for the better.
Here in Chicago, it's still "Columbus" Day, but only because Columbus was (allegedly) Italian: he sailed from Genoa because he lived in northern Italy, but his birth name was not Cristoforo Colombo (as he was known at the time of his voyages) but rather Cristobal Colòn, which is Spanish. (Dueling legends say that his family also were or were not "conversos," Jews who became Catholic to escape execution by the Inquisition). So the celebrations here are of Italian-American heritage, no longer about "discovery" of the New World (which has become increasingly politically fraught & shame-inducing). The parade down State St. is the main event. The whole town goes red/green/white for the entire weekend. (And if I hear the "Tarantella" one more time on a commercial...).
We're going to Russian Tea Time tonight (I hate Russia for the obvious modern reasons, and because of the pogroms that plagued my forebears, but Bob loves the place, a member of our temple who was a "refusenik" from Uzbekistan owns it, and all that roe, smoked fish & veg. salad is on my diet). DOTD, for me, will likely be a flute of Veuve Cliquot (for Bob, vodka of course). Alas, no more yummy raspberry-jam tea for dessert (much less sipped loudly through a sugar cube held in the teeth like my grandma used to do). Plain Swee-Touch-Nee just isn't the same thing.

Mprnin ladies,
Oh Lori I'm sure they're figuring out the next step for u. There is more out there and I know it will be figred out . <<<PRAYERS>>> This is so tough on u always going thru chit everytime ur tests are due. Due u feel any different. U know there is so much going on with all this crap, they have to have more on the list of things to do.
Jazzy Wow the heat did that. She must be in a very sensitive state. Wishing her a quick healing. And how is ur nephew doing with the difference in altitude.I never knew there was such a difference. Do u have to bake with the higher altitude. Why did I think of that. BTW does just one company own all the balloons or is it a bunch, so very expensive.
Teka ur coming south right, hope ur trip is safe and u have a good time.
JC that pic. of the sky it's sooo blue. That alone is relaxing so the sun has to be right there.
Lots of business yesterday, everyone was putting on their furnaces for the 1st time and so many didn't work.
Kim I had a feeling u would find ur work in Sadie's spots, she enjoys that so much LOL.
Wishing everyone a good Sunday.

Good Morning, Loungettes!Happy Sunday Funday! Sadie and I are puttering around the house today, and then I've got to do some prep work for class tomorrow. Glad the sun is coming out, I've got laundry that needs to get on the line! Will be doing that after this.Sadie keeps moving around so she's in the patch of sun in the living room.
Goldie--those numbers are not fun to look at. I'm sure you are not a happy camper about that. Are you FEELING any different? Do you and your MO have a plan? Hugs
Librarian--I've got the heat on and set for 65. that's keeping the house comfortable so far this weekend. And I'm getting more done around the house. I have got to remember that I go into hibernation mode when the house is under 60 degrees!Beautiful view!
Jazzy--so sorry hear about the partner being sick, praying for a speedy recovery! You must be disappointed.
Teka--enjoy the weather, glad you are having a good trip!
Chi--It must be fun to have all that Italian heritage being celebrated! I never realized Russia had such a tea culture until I looked up Raspberry-Jam Tea. It's all fascinating!
Oh, Jazzy, I am so sorry to hear about the partner's heart attack! Saying prayers.
Cammy Cat--Yup, Sadie keeps me on my toes! But I love her for it.
Thanks for the DOTD, Cammy!

I see my onc tomorrow. Most likely switching meds, he mentioned before Verzenio and Faslodex. I do not feel any different, just a bit more pain in the groin area, nothing consistent tho and not bad either. So not a happy camper at all, sitting in the rabbit hole but will pull myself out in a few days....I HOPE!
Jazzy said "heat" attack. So not sure if she meant heart attack or not, but that's what I was thinking...heart attack.

Hi everyone- just a quick update and then will then probably be gone from BCO for awhile. For those on FB with me, please don't say anything about this there because we have family and friends there who have no idea what is going on and won't be saying anything until we are past this weekend and we know where this is going.
My sister's partner was admitted yesterday afternoon to the main hospital here for my client site and was stable and they ran some tests overnight. However, around 1 p.m., I got a call from my sister and things were going south quickly. My SIL is now intubated and in ICU and took my sister to the hospital middle of the night. We were down there for a few hours, and my sister talked to the nurse and we left and got my sister back to the hotel for a few hours of sleep. She is now there and meeting with doctors and we take it hour to hour. There is a very good chance my SIL may not come through this folks. It's that bad......
My nephew, who came here for his 30th birthday is strong and stoic, but all the fun stuff planned yesterday and today is a bust. That included the balloon ride which we were going to try to do anyways this am, but with the middle of the night call, not possible as we had to be on the road up to the park by 3 a.m. to be to the tent at 5 a.m. to confirm our ride. I tried to call them to let them know, but they are not manning phones until 7 a.m. and they called at 6 a.m. I told them the situation, and they were kind and said to just get something from the hospital verifying the situation and they would have the manager review it and likely get a refund. We are all zombies so riding in a balloon is not a great idea today anyways.....
My nephew and I took a break from all this and spent some time in old town to eat and get a few more items for gifts before he goes home. I am taking him out today for a birthday brunch and my sister wants to come up from the hospital to do this and probably won't see him again this trip. Everyone needs to eat. I will take him hiking today too and then take him to the airport in the morning. I wanted to make this birthday memorable, but this was not what I had in mind. Sigh friends, this REALLY SUCKS all the way around.
My nephew and I are reconnected in very good ways though and talked about traveling together. I asked him if he wanted to go to Ireland with me next year for my 60th birthday and he said sure. He mentioned it again today. My nephew lost his dad at age 3 and been through a lot in his life so far and says he is not empathetic, but he is. He won't go to the hospital, but understand that too and told him he did not have to but needed to be sure his other auntie has support. I am doing my best to help him have a nice day today and also support my sister. Did I mentioned this sucks?
I will be back when I can, but appreciate any of you so inclined to say a little prayer or two for the jazzy family

Mornin Ladies,
Ow wow what posts.
Jazzy I think we're confused what happened to ur SIL but of course it seems so urgent. I'm so sorry for ur family and tho nothing is going as planned I am glad ur nephew is with you now. Sending big prayers ur way and if u can just keep us up on ur SIL we're all concerned.
Lori I' glad ur seeing ur Dr. tomorrow and a new plan of attack will be underway. My heart hurts for u and I pray this new approach will make the difference. My prayers are always being sent but sometimes extra like now. I'm glad u feel basically ok but of course feeling better is the goal.
Kim u and Sadie r a hoot about everything. So happy u have her I wish I had my own sadie. Even when u busy she takes the edge off and u know this. She's a treasure. People who don't have furbabies don't get this. But the rest o us totally do.
Certainly doesn't feel like Monday to me, maybe cuz Joey is home. Marty's coming along finally and Leslie is feelin better, crazy here this last week.
Dan came by last nite and he cheers me up everytime, I'm always so glad to see him.
Joey's home today another plus for me.
Of course I wish u ll a good day.

I made sure my nephew had a good birthday and he seemed to have a good time out here despite the rest. I normalized as much as I could for him. I used to do this all the time for him when his dad (my brother) was ill when he was a baby. I am amazingly good at compartmentalizing things to survive situations like this and doing it again now.
Taking him to the airport in 40 min and then back home to prepare for my sister to move in for a bit. I am exhausted. And oh yes, going to work midday too.
Thanks for caring! Back when I can.

Gobble, gobble Happy Thanksgiving to any Canadians out there! Just getting turkey ready, can't wait for the feast! Did anyone see some of the Lights Up for MBC posted on various FB sites this weekend - quite the spectacular displays!
NM - It is nice when things seem normal and getting up is not a chore, gotta love a wee bit of change!
jazzy - prayers and positives being sent to you and your family, so glad you could make your nephew's birthday better despite the unexpected curves. Remember to take time for yourself too!
goldie - sending you prayers and positives as well! Hopefully there is no progression and you can figure out the next steps. Have you had scans that show progression or are you going by the elevated numbers? Ughhhh, cancer sucks!
I am wishing you all a very, happy healthful week, full of all good things. Cheers!

Good Morning, Loungettes!Happy Twofer Tuesday! First day of class went well, looking forward to the second day today. Wish I could take Sadie, but that would be too distracting! And I must be moving more at my regular work cuz I'm not as stiff and sore as I usually am after being on my feet in a classroom all day. Love signs of progress!
Cammy Cat--Yup, Sadie is my sanity! Glad Dan could stop by and that Marty is progressing and Leslie is feeling better. And that you have Joey time.
Jazzy--glad your nephew could have a good time. Keep us updated as you can, and remember you are in my prayers.
Morning, Misty!
Janky--it is amazing what a lift a little change can be!
Morning, Illi, Librarian!
Jazzy--Hugs

Hi folks- they tried to take my SIL off the ventilator yesterday and she was failing so it went back on. We are starting to call family to prepare now. I am home this morning but going in for awhile this am and going to work for awhile and just thinking forward a few weeks. I may need to drive back with my sister to CA when the time comes for her to go. I don't want her driving 1000 miles back to CA by herself.
Thanks NM for keeping us in your prayers

Chi Sandy - My daughter did a fast Friday to Sunday night trip to Chicago and loved it! She said she did so much sight seeing and there was so much to see! She went with another girl that she works with to visit one of her clients, they stayed with her and her husband, she said that the client paid for all their food and her husband gave each of them $100.00 to spend. My daughter is not young, she is 37. I think they need kids or something. The client is a retired school principal and will pick up my daughters youngest daughter from day care one a week and tutor her. She said the food was so good and that she ate so much that she feels like an over-bloated tick.
I think I will put Chicago on my list of places I want to see. - Her clients treat her so nice. When one found out she went to Chicago, she told her that she needs to bring her daughters to Philadelphia and they would show them around.
I have been very busy, I pulled out my bedroom furniture and replaced it with a new dresser/chest/bedside tables that I bought at a thrift store. It was better built than what I have and my stuff matched the bed headboard and footboard. I changed from a king size back down to a queen size bed. Wow!!! I think I forgot how much difference there is between the king and queen. The bed looks puny now, but my bedroom has so much more room. The shop where I bought the stuff is coming today to pick up my old stuff. This is a great time to clean out clothes that is still all over in bins and baskets and boxes, I don't have energy after work to do too much. I plan to just do a little each night.
Sending good thoughts to Goldie and Jazzy's sister.
Will write more later...I am at work now and need to get back at it!

Good Morning, Loungettes!Happy Hump Day! Last day of class today. This group has been good to work with except for a couple who caught on really quickly and want things to move really fast, faster than is comfortable for most of the group. I had them take over and lead the reviews for a while, that slowed them down a bit! Got to get the important stuff in first thing today, once they get the paperwork from the school they just want to get to work getting registered to take the licensing test, and I don't blame them. Sadie says Hi to everyone!
Jazzy--good idea not to let your sister drive that far by herself. Hugs and prayers.
Misty--Good for you for getting the bedroom redecorated! Doing a little bit every day is key, and something I need to get back to doing.

Morning - frosty fall day, but the sun is shining so that's okay with me!
NM - sounds like a nice group to work with, though the 'eager beavers' can be more challenging! I am going to try and do like misty as well, and do a little bit at a time, otherwise nothing is getting done!
misty - Turkey was so delicious, I really love Thanksgiving food too - thinking a turkey sandwich for breakfast today! After a friend's isit to Chicago a while back, it is on my list of places to see too!
jazzy - thinking of you and yours, wishing for all good things
cami - I lose my 'ramblings' too, and it is so frustrating, who ever said computer stuff is always there doesn't work with our computers apparently
goldie - I hope all is going well with you.
jcs - still warm in your part of the country? Georgia sure is!
Hi illi, mema, chi, and anyone I am missing - enjoy the rest of the week. Cheers!

Misty, glad your daughter had such a great time here! Any time anyone here wants to visit Chicago, please let me know. We have quite a few other BCO sisters in the area (plus one downstate).
Jazzy, will say a Mi Sheberach for your SIL, and prayers for strength & comfort for you & the family.
Cami, where'd you find that picture of Happy?
Sat. night we found out that Russian Tea Time is closed for renovations, so instead we went to Publican--mostly protein-centric. Cheated only a tiny bit. Had a small-producer brut "nature" (bone-dry, no sugar "dosage") Champagne and a Provençal rosé (proceeds of which was a fundraiser for the Lynn Sage Breast Cancer Center at Northwestern).
Had a winemaker dinner last night at RPM Steak--the winery was La Spinetta, which we visited in Terracioli, Tuscany back in July 2016. This time, though, the wines were all from grapes in their vineyards in the Piemonte near Alba. Started with a 2012 "metodo tradizionale" brut sparkler called Contratto--not just the Champagne method but grapes normally used in Champagne but grown in the Piemonte: 80% pinot noir, 20% chardonnay. Next with carpaccio, a 2015 Barbera d'Asti, "Ca di Pian;" with a yummy white truffle pasta, two 2006 Barbarescos, "Starderi" and "Valeireno" (the former had a better bouquet, the latter a tad more tannic but also more complex); with duck breast & foie gras, two vintages of Barolo "Campe:" 2005 & 2013, comparing mature with a younger release; with Tuscan prime grass-fed ribeye, 2004 Barbaresco Riserva "Gallina," which knocked my socks off.
Unfortunately, the only one we could afford to buy was the bubbly (the Barbera was the same price, but I liked the sparkler better). The '04 Barbaresco Riserva was available only in magnums...for >$500. Nope. Rather put that money towards Bob's birthday dinner party at Cellars Fri. night...an intimate dinner for 18. (That's 6 more than the RPM wine dinner--no wonder it was so expensive, not just the high-end food, Riedel grape-specific crystal and amazing older wines, but no "economy of scale" for the restaurant. By contrast, Cellars' wine dinners are about 1/3 the price--but the guest list is usually at least 30-40, taking over the whole place; wines are younger and much less costly, and the restaurant stocks only one size & shape of all-purpose wine glass plus champagne flutes, more durable as well, to cut down on breakage. The food is every bit as good, but larger portions too).
So DOTD today was coffee & water. Will be for awhile till I start losing weight again. 1-1/2 lbs. from my interim goal.

Good Morning, Loungettes!Happy Thirsty Thursday!Just a quick poop in, got to head in to work for an early CPR class..Got a Nor'Easter blowing up a storm today. Sadie took one look at that the rain and gave me a "You really expect me to go out in THAT?" look.
Thinking of everyone.
