how about drinking?

grabbing a quick ML and racing on...long drive back to dr early tomorrow for hubby's post op visit. He thinks the eye surgery went well and has little discomfort tonight...MY problem as designated driver is that it has started to rain--what else is new--and they are forecasting torrential downpours for tomorrow--will be an interesting trip. LOL--I got him all the way home with no mishaps until I turned into our driveway--somehow I missed by a tad and ran the back tire over the cement surround of our drainage ditch. He'd been in la-la land from the surgery until then but that sure woke him right up and I haven't heard the end of it yet....s i g h...
Hang in there, HunkyD--tomorrow night I will have drinks galore for you. Hope you don't have to be hospitality hostess to those drains for very long. No big hugs, but gentle knuckle bumps...
later, all.........

Got the place to myself looks like. Unlike Junies husband, I don't remember my ride home from hospital much. I really am setting a new fashion statement here poolside today. I have thigh high compression socks, abdominal binder, bandages and surgical bra. I feel kind of like a mummy. When is Lori getting home? Jaybird...I was next to a lady from Spain yesterday in pre-op at the hospital. DH and I were really getting a kick out of listening to nurses trying to communicate with them. She couldn't speak much english but her basque husband could a little. That was our entertainment for the day I guess. Well, I guess I will see what the boys can concoct for me this morning. Too all of you at work...have a good one! HunkyD

Hey Hunky!
How are you feeling today? I hope your not in much pain.
You said your surgery was 5 hours?? WOW, that seems like a long time, were there any complications? Sorry about the incuisition...lol
Anyhooo, glad your back
I'm at work so I will be online later.
XOXOXO

Dee, I had the nips done and quite a bit of lipo. Also, my cancer side that I had the free tram on this summer, he did stage 2 revisions on that too. You won't have all that. I think it was a little longer than he expected. I think the exchange side was the least of all of it. He worked extra long to get things symetrical also he said. It is good to be back!! HunkyD

HunkyD, what can I say but....OUCH!!!! You had a lot done, and now to get on with the healing...and I hope you are resting! I learned too late that it seems the reason my drains were in tooo long was I didn't stay still....I would have thought the opposite, but apparently they don't slow down draining unless you are somewhat inactive. At least that is what I was told, after the fact. So let Pants and Jocks just pamper you constantly....and of course your family can pamper you too....just let them do as much as they offer to do!. Hope the pain is manageable.... Its pau hana time so I will just force myself to have an extra drink (or two) for you....lol.
Gentle hugs,
Kathy
(and junie, I hope your DH's postop visit went well....and that you got home safely! Now, to relax here and drink those icy cold ML's that have been sitting here in this bucket, just for you!)

I wish I could join everyone for a cocktail. I have to pick up my dh from the airport tonight and his flight is delayed until midnight! Yuck! I think I'm going to take one of those Spain naps!!!
Glad all the surgeries went well!0 -
Hunky,
I'm so glad you're home. I hope you are on such good pain meds that you have to drink vicariously though all of us for a bit. Sounds like you need a stuffed ape instead of a monkey. Be kind to yourself. Like Kathy says, the less you do the sooner you get the drains out.
Maybe all of Lori's virtual bridesmaids can't remember the reception. Anyone...anyone?
Happy belated Kittycat.
Four more days of vacation. Talk to y'all later.

...OMG--Kathy--thanks for having my ML bucket iced down and filled...Jocks, please start filling up another bucket or two, please. I'd planned to stop in tonight and visit and relax after a couple of stressful days and early nights. Instead, I'm gonna sit here, whine, and get shit-faced, then stay in bed all day tomorrow.
Post-op visit went fine; rained on us all the way home. after dinner we were settling down to watch tv (Survivor). I glanced out the back window and there was this huge wall of black cloud way off in the distance. I told DH--here comes that torrential rain they predicted. Took about an hour to get here and when it did, all hell broke loose. Rained so hard, had to turn up the volume on tv. Family room ceiling started leaking almost immediately. Tornado take cover warnings blaring on tv...stuck a couple pans under the drips but ended up putting a big cooler under them because so much water dripping in. and, a new leak sprang up in another part of the room. Goofy dog went over to check out the cooler and pans and water dripped on his head and he freaked out--he was already scared from the storming. and for first time ever, hear warnings on tv for people to stay home; do not drive--too many creeks overflowing and much flooding in low-lying areas; all emergency rescue people are doing high-water rescues. aND that is just from round 1...round 2 is firing up as I type--coming in waves...by round 3, our cable connection will have washed out and I'll be sitting here at the bar in the dark......I fully expect to wake up in the morning with half the family room ceiling laying on the floor.........GRRRRRRRRR...think we will easily get the 6 inches' rain predicted--where the hell is all this water coming from????? I have joked with you all for months about all the rain we've had, but I am seriously becoming unhinged...
whew--got my whine over; started in on second bucket of MLs--not quite as edgy, but not mellow by a long shot...have a story to share about my trip to Spain, but will save it for another post...
my 3rd bucket is in honor of Hunky and Kitty. More than happy to drink for Hunky until she is able. Kitty--huggsss to you for doing airport pick-up duty...did that many times. Remind me some day to tell you about the night I picked DH up at airport wearing a trenchcoat and shoes and nothing else...I had no idea how many people would be in that airport at that time of night.......
later, all--starting to rock and roll loudly again....better go.......love, junie

CAZ, Hope you are having a great time on vacation! Actually I can't recall Lori's reception...guess we all drank too much! At least we were OUTSIDE and not stuck in junie's purse this time...lol.
junie, Wow girl, can't believe all that rain coming down and IN your house....yikes! They're telling people to stay home and not drive cause of the creeks overflowing, but, what about your house overflowing??? What a mess. And for your dog to freak out too...well I know you have your hands full. So much for a relaxing evening, huh? I hope you don't have more damage w/ the additional storms, and hopefully NO tornados either. I think we're getting your weather tomorrow...they predict heavy storms, and lately we seem to get your weather a day after you get it. But I really don't want it....send it somewhere else...preferably over the ocean somewhere out in the middle of nowhere! Let us know how you are doing in the morning, ok? Hmmmm...just a trenchcoat and shoes, huh? Let me just guess what you had planned for that night.....you daring girl, you.
HunkyD, hope you are able to sleep and are not having too much pain. Glad you have that surgery behind you now!!!
Nite nite everyone,
Kathy

Not as much of a visual as Hunkey's sock monkey, but after my lumpectomy and node removal, I slept with a can of soda pop (fresh from the fridge) under my armpit.
I bought the soda, but Hunkey...did you steal the sock monkey from one of your kids?

Nice to hear from ya all. Lounge is so quiet at 4 in the morning. CAZ, hope you have had a good vacation. Also, I do have a stuffed ape here at home...DH...LOL! He has been really good to me so that wasn't very nice. Meece, funny about the soda. The monkey is mine though. I have a couple of them. Glad to see you at the lounge. Kathy, glad you are holding the fort down here. Pants and Jocks found something left by the pool last night. I think it might be Junies. Later all....HunkyD

Cheers to dry skies, eyes and getting high! (on alchohol that is)

Hunky - happy to hear that at least you are home. Hope they gave you a lot of good pain meds, and that you're up & around soon. {{{soft, gentle hugs}}}
Dee - hope you're doing better & that work is good. Jaybird - please take lots of Spain pics, would love to see them. Hope everyone else is doing well too.
I'm here. Just having a few down days, am waiting for Oncotype results & it finally hit me that this is what the rest of my life will be like. I had a lumpectomy on Aug 31, and have been waiting & researching & going to appts to try to figure out what to do next - it's exhausting and I really just want to get on with a plan already. Need to feel like I'm moving forward and gaining some control over my future. Sorry ladies, just needed to throw a little pity-party here - sorry to dampen spirits in the HTL. Everyone needs something to believe in: I believe I'll have another drink.

Ok, I haven't been here in a while - only read Hunky's post on the next-to-last page & missed the most recent page of posts! Duh. I wish that umbrella was mine...

HunkyD is back.....to her regular funny self, that is....such a funny umbrella pic! ROFL! Hope you are feeling better...its such a hard recovery, but so worth it.
Grakenmom....you can gripe, hold a pity-party, whatever is needed....we are here for you! Sorry for what you are going through....so much stress and worry. SO hard to figure out what is best for you, and I hope the results will be good ones. I felt "lucky" in that my DCIS was spread all over 1 side,to where a lumpectomy would not have worked...so I had the bilat mast. OF course there is still a chance for more bc, as they can't get ALL the tissue, but its not something I have to stress over, and I am happy for that. Plus, I now have perky firm boobs instead of my former saggy ones...and that is a big plus...lol. There is no right answer for everyone, and as long as you trust your medical team to guide you with the right decisions for YOU, then you're doing the right thing. If you ever have doubts about your dr, then please see someone else. I had to change PS's at the last minute and am so glad I did. OKAY....off of my soap box....just want to make sure you feel like your drs have a plan for you and are comfortable with it. Even with that, there is stress and worry. So I think you had the right idea...having another drink! Let us know what they find out.
junie, Hope you're drying out, and not too much ceiling and roof damage. Yikes, any damage of that kind is horrible! Its been raining all night, and now to see if we get those horrible storms you had. I need to get to my mom's place and freshen it up, since they haven't been there since May...of course I put it off till the last minute! Anyway, thinking of you, and hope you are okay...
Meece, glad you joined us here....pull up a barstool and let Pants and Jocks wait on you hand and foot (and whatever!). Dee, jaybird, Caz, kittycat, casinogirl, and everyone else, have a HAPPY FRIDAY!!!!
ChEARS,
Kathy

Did I wear pink at Loris virtual wedding? I don't know how well that would go with my complexion! HunkyD
0 -
Yeah HD, we ALL wore pink, as that is Lori's favorite color...at least she let us pick the style of dress we wanted! You know, we were all so sloshed I don't think anyone noticed if we looked good in pink or not...lol. Well, I just finished cleaning my parents townhouse..YAY..my back is killing me now though, and of course, my home is a total disaster! Shouldn't be here at the lounge w/ all there is to do, but oh how can I resist....nice weather, beautiful pool, gorgeous guys as tattie tenders, unlimited drinks, casino that gives away money....what could be better??? Hope the guys are taking good care of you HD....and that you are feeling better every day! Nice picture, Dee....and nice sentiment! No matter how junie tried to divert that bad weather she had, it sure is coming this way...they predict it will get bad this evening....w/ tornado warnings, high winds, etc. Junie, did you ever get the house dried up from all those leaks? I think we all missed the "Thunderous Thursdays" last night....we really need a party planner here!
ChugALug,
Kathy
P.S. Sky is already dark, very windy, and heavy rain just started. Think I will unplug this 'puter!

Kathy, sorry your back is hurting. Housework is highly overated. I can't stand it though if my house is very sloppy so I understand. My "Big Ape" did vacuum for me today. I am very grateful to have him. Hope you don't get the bad storms predicted. I won't be surprised if Junie has lost her internet connection and part of her ceiling. I hope we can get a party planner to step up. I don't think it will take much to amuse me. XOHunkyD

Looks like you got good help around the house hunky. Send him over here when he's done cleaning your house. We've had some major rain here too, but thank goodness no leaks so far. What kind of party do you want to have? I'm sure we could whip up something fun
0 -
Kathy--sorry--I did try hard to make the crappy storm go some place else--but guess it is headed straight to you. Blame it on Casino Girl because she sends all her storms directly to ME..we are such a good, sharing group.......
didn't sleep all day as planned. lost power during the night for a couple hours.....had quite a bit of plaster on the floor to clean up this morning. Cooler worked better catching drips than pots and pans, so will keep it handy. I'm declaring the cooler and messed up ceiling to be "Country Chic" and it will prob be that way for years because things move slow in our neck of the woods. Had thoughts all morning that I will never adjust to rural life and we should move back to big city life......and this afternoon, looked out the back window to see the most beautiful doe and buck in our back yard. They had found something they liked to nibble on and watching them, I had second thoughts about leaving....sigh.....
Hunky--that umbrella is a "mastercard--priceless" posting...I laughed and relaxed and laughed some more...would love to have one. it expresses my sentiments to all this rain, to bc, to life just perfectly.
Meece--I held a cold ML on my burning boob one night after rads tx and it felt soooo good. Mentioned it to my rads tech next day and she freaked out--never did get a logical rationale but didn't do it again...
E--don't apologize for having a pity party--we have them in here all the time--that's what bars are for. Once you get some answers to some questions and get a treatment plan in place, things will settle down. Think I had a similar dx as yours hugggsssss
poor Lori will go half-blind reading to catch up with all that's been going on at the HTL.
Thanks to you all, am totally mellowed out--be back tomorrow night and ready to P a R T Y...

I am glad I didn't miss a big party last night. Seems my Frequent Flyer Miles at the surgery center caught up with me, as well as my attempt to stop pain killers. I fell asleep after a movie and woke up at 3AM with a little more pain than my body wanted to tolerate. Took a couple valium and was able to go back to sleep. I still am not out of bed, but also see no reason to be. DH had to go to work for half a day. Dee, I see you captured my little monkey vacuuming, or is he hiding? LOL. Junie, glad you were able to incorperate your cooler into a contemporary yet chic style for your drip control. Later all, I will have to get up eventually I know. HunkyD

Awwwwww.....junie, what a sight to behold in your backyard! I agree....used to live in the country with my late DH....and just loved the serenity and enjoyment of nature. Too hard to care for though as our farm required tons of upkeep. So I am glad to be in town, but I do miss a lot of the country living, although our yard is humongous and keeps us busy enough! Hope you can deal w/ the leaky ceiling and fallen plaster till you can get it fixed. Or like you said, just call it "country chic"!
We were lucky and "missed the bullet". Tornado warnings, high winds, bad storms, but all we ended up with are neighbors small limbs and leaves all over our front yard. VERY lucky, as some areas nearby had trees fallen into homes, etc.
Parents weren't able to leave HI last night...probs w/ aircraft...found out after getting to airport at midnight....aarrgghh! So, will get here on Wed instead...same day we were going to Tunica...not sure if they will want to travel for 5 MORE hours after such long flights! So now although I have time to get my housework done, would also like Dee to send over monkey w/ vac after HD sends it to her house....boy we can all use THAT monkey...lol.
HunkyD, just REST, and rest some more. Your body has a lot to recover from....don't try to do too much, and if you need the pain meds, then please take them. I know...I hated to take them too and tried to do without, but your body will let you know if you still need them. Time to wean off of them once the pain subsides. Don't worry....we will drink for you...wish the effects could be transferred to you....but you will join us in drinking soon enough!
Hope Lori is having a great time, and will check in when she gets back home!
Hugs and Love,
Kathy

I hope everyone is okay? What is up with all the bad weather? Just cold here, damn cold! Definitely drinking weather! It got close to freezing last night and is supposed to get there (or below?) again tonight. So of course I'm off to Moscow tomorrow. Maybe it will be warmer there?
The remodel is coming along. It sure is hard to choose tiles and such. I'll try to post some pics this week as my plan for Moscow is to just stay in and relax and waste time on the computer. Oh, that, and drink! I usually get a few beers at the airport while we're waiting for our passports to be processed. After trying some Russian beers I now get 1664 at the convenient store in the airport. It costs more but it's a lot better!
Well, cheers to all - stay warm and stay dry and stay drunk!

Hello all - hope everyone is safe, warm & dry! Thanks for your words of encouragement to a newbie, I really appreciate them (and all of you, and this great place!).
I'd like to request some special buffet & bar items for tomorrow (I'm turning 47), so hopefully the Tenders will be able to accommodate my wishes? Just for today, I won't worry about fat or sugar intake, and would love to have fettucine alfredo, romano-cheese crusted chicken over tomato alfredo sauce, beer battered fish with malt vinegar, gyros with tzatziki, sweet potato fries, french-fried green beans with wasabi cream dipping sauce, spice-rubbed roasted turkey with mashed potatoes & gravy, red velvet cake with cream cheese icing, creme brulee, and chocolate covered strawberries. Oh, and cosmos, cabernet, beer, and my two favorite seasonal drinks:
Caramel Apple Cider - Capt. Morgan Spiced Rum in apple cider, drizzled with a small spoonful of caramel syrup - good hot or cold!
Vanilla Cranberry fizz - vanilla vodka with cran-raspberry juice, plus a splash of ginger ale, club soda or 7up. Looks pretty in a nice glass too.
Hope there's enough time for everyone to join in by the pool.

Wishing you a Happy 47th (early) Birthday!!! I esp want to try your Caramel Apple Cider....sounds soooo yummy! Will have to get the TT's to start working on your party ASAP! Pool is so nice right now...and of course the special Sunday Brunch is going strong...complete w/ mimosa fountains and bloody mary's....and whatever anyone else wants. Yummmm--my mouth is watering...can't wait for tomorrow's brunch. Dang, E--you've listed all my favorite things. Except haven't had green beans w/wasabi cream sauce. Sounds delish. Is it ok with everybody if I ask Jocks to whip up a batch of homemade cornbread stuffing and yeast rolls to go with the turkey?
Taking my Bloody Mary out to the pool and see who's there.

A birthday toast for Erika:
May fortune always be kind to you
And happiness be true to you
And life be long and good to you
Is the toast from all of us to you
Happy Birthday!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY ERIKA! I love your drink suggestions - yum! Cheers to you!

YES, a big HAPPY BIRTHDAY to Erika!!! Hope our creative team, Dee or HunkyD, can post a picture honoring the event! The guys are STILL running around like crazy getting ready for the party. Seems like they hired several chefs to make all your favorite foods...and the HUGE cake that they traditionally jump out of. Its going to be some PARTAY. Raining at my house all day, but of course the weather is gorgeous at the HTL, so a poolside party will be perfect....they can even light all the tiki torches tonight.... 47 of them...now try to blow all THOSE out.... j/k. I think someone (HD?) mentioned earlier that we should use 1 candle/for ea 10 yrs...so how many candles for 47, HD? Thats a little more math than my little brain can handle....
Hauoli la Hanau Erika!
Kathy
