Ah shel - sorry about the boob turining, sounds awful.
Janis - I was drinking some of my wine guys killer wines tonight everything they left for me was first rate- Ornellia, Pride Cab and something Bosco Syrah, there was another too. Just 4 of the wines they didn't finish at the tasting dinner, can't imagine what they did taste. Anyhow, my lips and teeth were so purple, I knew I had some great wine. Hair is still crazy curly especially with this humidity. In my case this will not pass. I am ready to get out the scissors.

I am really straight, I never did drugs or drank a lot. When I went through chemo I made a friend (also stage 3 breast cancer 9 yr survivor) who insisted on driving to and from treatments. She would have me smoke pot day of and 3 days after treatment. I never once got sick. I have since guit smoking it because I have a job that requires random drug test. But I would not have bought in to it but it works. I was so reluctant too. not to creat bad habits but if all else fails......this really works!

    It may help.

But I'd think twice about it. As 4Sandy notes, there are many jobs these days where drug use is a total no-no. How do you know you won't be applying for one in the future, or that your current employer won't get stricter about things?

I would push my doctor for better meds first.

There is a medication called "Marinol." It is sort of a pill form of reefer. And its legal. So it would be safer to go that route.

shel - sorry about your expander nightmare - can't even imagine how unpleasant that must have been.

As far as the hairstyling/curly mess/ can't do anything with it - I tried beer, wine AND vodka but none of it worked

I finally broke down and bought a CHI iron (I only use it when I'm not too lazy, which isn't often) and that does help straighten it out if you use enough product. But - they get REALLY hot so I'm sure it's not good to use all the time.

Pantyripper and Bushmaster - sounds good to me. Those folks in the Caribbean know how to make some tasty drinks don't they?

    Cheers!

I gave that one to my dh prior to his surg, LOL.
He took several copies to the hospital and shared them with his doc and nurse friends and made sure it was taped to the front of his chart.
Everyone got a bit kick from it.
Oh, yeah,he had the real one, too.

Forgot to tell ya: the OR nurses made him a huge basket with bloody mix and margie mix, glasses for same, candy ciggs (he's the only doc there who still smokes), a remote control and several other items listed on the funny list.
It was such fun (at least for me, dh wasn't feeling so well, it was , after all, his prostate!)

    Christine,
I'm so glad that the avatar worked! It took me forever to figure out how to do it. I am a real computer dummy .
My husband has a Harley that I ride on with him. Too unsure of myself to ride my own. We are leaving tomorrow morning for Sturgis, SD and Wyoming. We are going to the Bike Week. We were there in 2002 and had so much fun that we are going back. I'll let you know how it was.
    Cheers!

    Hi Shel,
Our bike is an empty nester type thing. Now that the kids are all grown, it is our stress relief. We are having our mid-life crisis together! I guess it could be worse. Now the kids worry about us all the time ! Talk about role reversal.
We will have a blast! We are staying at the Buffalo Chip Campground. It is "party central" in Sturgis. I'm sure we will be doing our fair share of drinking there! I will fill you all in when I get back.

Jan and Shel I will for sure have a drink for you guys. Jan have a great time that sounds like fun. And it's fun when the kids worry about us, I always laugh when they say, we were so worried, why didn''t you call and I just look at them with that same dumb face they use to give us when we would ask the same question.

    Randi,
Don't you just love it when the kids worry about us? All the years I spent pulling my hair out.. it's the best revenge. "Oh, you guys drink too much" "Don't drink and drive" (we don't). We love it! We have two boys and I can't say they were always in trouble, but they put us through enough. I got shingles when our youngest was in college. Don't even go there ! I have a great drinking story about the younger son:

    Here goes.....
He was about 16 and the popular football player. He came home one night and locked his brother in the basement. I caught that but couldn't figure out what was going on. I went upstairs and there was the unmistakable stench of booze puke. It was him. He was so sick (three days) that it was it's own punishment. To this day, he can't drink a lot and if you even mention "Mad Dog", he feels sick. lol Mad Dog is that fortified wine from Mogen David. One of our friends is nick-named "Mad Dog" and they give everyone a bottle of Mogen David for their birthday. Yuck .
Well, off to Sturgis and the crazy party! I'll fill you in when I get back!
    Hugs, Jan

Shel, this will be too late for today's "feast" with the family, and some of it needs to be done ahead and pre-cooked in the oven so perhaps for a rainy day...the finished product is done on the barbecue. Just saw this in Homemaker's Magazine and it sounded good, and rather appropriate for this thread....

    Whisky Sour Ribs
2 racks pork back ribs (5 to 6 lbs.)
4 cloves garlic pressed or minced
2 tbsp bourbon or Canadian whisky
    1 tbsp grated gingerroot
    1 tbsp lemon juice
    1 tsp black pepper
    ¾ tsp salt
    ½ tsp cayenne pepper

    Whisky Sour Barbecue Sauce
    ½ cup packed brown sugar
¼ cup bourbon or Canadian whisky
    ¼ cup lemon juice
    ¼ cup crushed tomatoes
    2 tbsp fancy molasses
2 cloves garlic pressed or minced

Cut rib racks in half. Mix together garlic, whisky, ginger, lemon juice, pepper, salt & cayenne. Rub over both sides of ribs; place in plastic bag and refrigerate overnight or for up to 2 days.

Place ribs in roasting pan; cover with foil. Roast in 375 oven until tender; about 90 minutes.

    Whisky Sour Barbecue Sauce

Meanwhile, in saucepan over medium heat, stir together sugar, whisky, lemon juice, tomatoes and molasses. Boil until reduced by half, about 12 minutes. Reduce heat and stir in garlic; simmer for 1 minute. Set aside.

Grill ribs over medium-high heat, covered, until lightly browned on both sides, about 4 minutes per side. Brush meat side of racks with some of the sauce; cover and grill for 5 minutes. Turn over and grill until sauce is glazed, about 1 minute. Turn again and brush remaining sauce over top; cover and grill for 3 minutes. Turn; grill for 1 minute. Cut into individual pieces. Makes 6 to 8 servings.

I'm thinking short ribs are a little too fatty for the grill. They are perfect for braising or a slow cooker.
Yum... love those high fat foods, cooked low and slow.
