Lori - that sucks! I have to say I have been very happy with my insurance. They have covered everything so far, including OncoType, MRIs, several US, multiple surgeries, AND a bone density scan even though I am not old enough per the standard protocol. Hope your doc has a Plan B.

Hope everyone is staying high and dry! DD was worried about parking her car at school cuz they are only 2 blocks from the beach. Told her that school is a safe place to be in the event of an emergency and she should just cooperate with whoever is in charge of safety at school. A sad , sad day for the people of Japan. I watched the tsunami on TV last night in horror and all I could think of was that people in those rural areas probably had no idea it was coming. There were no jokes last night so I didn't sleep well either.

There is jazz (and wine) at the winery tonight so I'm planning on sleeping well tonight. I've lost 3 pounds by doing Wii activities everyday and not eating butter, cheese or dessert this week!

    (((Lori)))

There HAS to be a way of coding the doctor's office can do to 'allow' the scans. You DID have BC, and that IS a pre-existing condition - right? Can the office try again? Good luck!

Gail, looks like at least 2 of us will be enjoying wine out tonight! We are going to a wine tasting with pupus and will get 2 wine glasses to keep also. I bought this as a surprise for my DH awhile ago, and had forgotten about it. Haven't seen any more news on the earthquake but not looking forward to hearing how many were killed. Just colored my hair, and now trying to get stuff done b4 Monday.

    Cheers Girlz,

Sorry I've been out today, watching the news and worrying about wahine's fam, AStorm on the coast, our Seattle Claire, my beach homes...just heard it hit in southern Oregon. Jaybird glad you are safe. Kymn hope your fam is okay on the coast. Chrissy glad you're safe downunder (oh that would be so cool to meet you in the US, I'd love for us all to get together!). So much going on in the news today. Woah Goldie, that insurance issue sucks and doesn't seem right $30K is so much you should get ulta services for that price, no wonder you didn't sleep and I hope that is better tonight. I don't know if your doctor can put pressure on them? There were a few tests I had insurance balking at then my docs appealed and I got em paid - good luck I will be hopin the best. Kymn if you search "cancer math" I think it will pop up, maybe cancermath.net - of course I'd review all with your doctor. I'm sure hoping everyone else is okay and my thoughts a prayers go out to everyone hit by the earthquake and the tsunami. Cheers & Titz Out, Beanienails

Hello all - finally got home - been out all day. First thing this am went to a big craft show with a good friend. They had some amazing things but the jewelry was tremendously expensive - like most over 4K! Can't imagine people coming to pay that much money for jewelry. They really had some lovely things but most too expensive but for a few booths. One booth had some pretty silver spoons or cheese knives and such at reasonable prices so we asked for his card and he almost was to the point of yelling at us saying he came all the way from San Franciso and all anyone asks for is cards and how he didn't come so far just to give away his cards. So my friend politely said here you can have it back then I returned mine as well. It pretty much ruined the rest of out time. We felt so singled out and scolded for what actually liking his work?

Anyway, just got home and have seen some of the horrors of Japan - how totally horrific!!! I can't begin to imagine .... from one news radio station they said that Japan is probably the best country to take control and deal with such a terrible situration. But how very very sad and terrifying...

Glad hawaii and the coast seems to be spared. I know is must have been scary for everyone and all loved ones.

Goldie - Wow!!! That really doesn't begin to make sense! that is awful. Surely there can be something done with the codes and such. well, better get settledI'm back home.....

Beans.....here in Seattle, it was much wilder last night with the rain and wind.  Today was relatively calm.  Feel so sorry for those poor people in Japan.  They rescued the 81 people on the boat that was swept away!!!  What a miracle.

I still feel sleepy, although did relatively little today.  Talked to my friend in Vermont.  They had 30" of snow earlier this week, and now rain.  She didn't have too many clean words in her tirade.

I couldn't believe the insurance bill either.  I certainly won't complain AT ALL about mine.

I think I will do a quick walk and bag the opera.  I would love to see it, but I can't imagine staying up until 11:30.  Not even after the long nap I took.  This Creeping Crud is worse than chemo!!!

Can I just go pass out under a blanket?????  Nite-nite. - Claire

DH and were taking our afternoon walk when my MIL called his cell to tell us that the tsunami has hit our town and the boats in the harbor are stacked on top of each other. Of course, I could only hear the half of the conversation that sounded like "Oh my GOD!" ... "Oh no! That's hooooorrrible!" and I'm thinking she fell down and hurt herself again... they are so dramatic those two! By the time he got off the phone I was so worried I yelled at him. Then he wanted to go see the boats. Really? Told him I'd need a couple of glasses of wine before I go DOWN TO THE WATER TO SEE THE TSUNAMI so we are going wine tasting now.

Claire - a hot toddy or a glass of port and keep warm ... that's my advice for the day! Hope you feel better.

    Good morning and Happy Saturday!

I did crash out before 9pm last night and was out of bed by 5am. Sorry to be such a party pooper, I can't get over this, very unlike me.  I have been working on my pool since I got up - just had the cover removed yesterday.  I am bringing up the level and hope to have the filter running and the water chemistry balanced in 48-72 hours. I am finally coming out of the S.A.D. mode!!! yEE hAAA!

Chrissy, I heard you calling me but was sort of in a coma.  Sorry Kathy, did not mean to invite you then run. The fatigue hits me like a ton o bricks.

Lori, OMG, you pay how much for insurance??? And they will not cover? That is insane.  I hope and pray you can make those clowns cover your tests/scans etc. Greed in american makes me soooo mad. I am mad for you.

Astorm and Claire, so glad you ladies are alright and were not affected by the tsunami.  Claire, feel better. You must really feel terrible; very unlike you to not keep up with your meetings, biking etc. And Astorm, sorry that your DH put you in a panic. I hate when that happens, your heart was probably racing. But glad it was nothing terrible happening to your family.

Stanzie, when you say craft show, I think of home made items and not thousand dollar jewelry.  What a dick that guy was bitching about his travel. I shall put a curse on him, woooooooosh, oops, he left a case of pretty silver spoons behind. Take that, jerk. He must have been mad that no one was buying. This is why I sometimes feel I hate people...so many morons out there.

Kymn, hope you are able to put the upcoming treatment out of your miind and enjoy your weekend.   I thought I saw you at the lounge lasst night, clad in pink leopard everything. Maybe it was a dream though.

NM, I am waiting for my dotd, you make them soooooo good.

I am going back to taking the pool the filter apart. My hands are so weak, thank God for wrenches. I don't like DH to touch it, he makes things to tight and the pool is my baby, not his.  My hands are burning after having them in the 50 degree water!

To all i missed, come on in and we can catch up. Have a great day ladie breast friends o mine ♥

The test is not a bone density test, had that one in Dec. And I do have osteopenia and I was tested for menopause in 08, which is confirmed as well! Bone scan checks for cancer in the bones (I believe) and the CT checks the rest of the body (organs). And even if I pay for tests, as I have a $3000 deductible that I haven't met, my husband says that it won't go towards the deductible because they denied it! As for the doc calling, he already did that. He has had to do that before, and was successful. Just didn't work this time.

Beans, those fingernails are so cute! Just noticed and read your signature, LMAO! Wondering how long it has been there.

Dorothy, I am like you. I don't want to see or hear of all the devastation. It is just too horrible.

And Jaybird I hope all of your friends are ok and glad you are as well.

Stanzie, glad you gave that guy back his card. What an idiot!

Sorry you are still feeling the crud Claire. Hope today is better.

How about a Lavendar Cocktail this morning? Thinking of Spring, calming.

It is cool and refreshing, with a unique floral note.  To give the Lavender Cocktail a stronger kick, you can leave out the limoncello and replace it with extra vodka, but I think the limoncello adds a very nice depth of flavor.

    Lavender Cocktail

    2 oz club soda

    1 oz Vodka

    ½ oz limoncello

½ oz Lavender simple syrup (see recipe below)

Pour the 2 ounces of club soda into a martini glass.  Combine the other ingredients in a martini shaker with ice and shake until well chilled.  Pour over club soda and serve immediately.

    Lavender simple syrup

    1 cup granulated sugar

    1 cup cold water

2 tablespoons fresh or dried lavender flowers

To make the Lavender simple syrup, combine all of the ingredients in a small saucepan.  Cook over medium high heat until the sugar is completely dissolved.  Strain into a Tupperware and refrigerate until well chilled.

Try using any extra lavender simple syrup to sweeten any of your favorite drinks or cocktails!

Lori - what a lovely cocktail. It's still night for me as I haven't slept so I'm gonna go ahead and imbibe. I can't believe you got denied. Do they think you are doing this for pleasure or vanity? My PS told me insurance wouldn't cover fat grafting and the associated harvesting (lipo) but new PS says they would... I got the feeling the 1st PS thought I was trying to get free lipo and I wasn't even fat then (pre-tamoxifatty). Hope your allergies are better.

Update on the tsunami in my little town: More than 60 boats were sunk, damaged or lost at sea yesterday - estimate is $5 million loss and $17 million damage to the harbor. The Gov has declared a state of emergency in several counties, including Santa Cruz. We are all fine and I haven't heard of any injuries or deaths, but in Northern Cal a man was swept out to sea and is still missing.

Jazz at the winery was boring so we came home after finishing our wine and watched "Throw Momma from the Train" ... also boring but fun to watch an 80's movie and reminisce about my hair, super-fit-aerobics body, Reeboks and shoulder pads.

Gail, wow, so very sad about all of that damage. I think I heard about the missing guy, was it the one of three that were on a cliff taking photos?  I did break down and watch news today and am feeling nearly like I did after 9/11. It is all so sad.

Lori, the dotd is fanTITStic! I've had two or three, I forget.  So sorry about the sneezing, I hope the half pill helps. If not, meet me at the fukital dispenser.

DD is flying to London, flight leaves at 12:30. I am anxious over this. This is her first time out of the country. It is a school sponsored trip and I am sure she will be fine but I still worry.

Back to putzing around my back yard!  Enjoy the day and catch you wunderful girlies later!!

Lori, What a GAWGEOUS spring dwink! Looks so pretty and delicate but know it would pack a punch! Thanks for posting it. Sawwy, didn't realize bone density and bone scan were different tests. I think I just called mine a "bone scan" when I had my dr set it up, but it is for the bone density. Weird, cause they are both scans right? I never get all of the tech terms....over my head...lol. Unbelievable that they won't cover it, with as much $$$ that you pay per year. So sorry, that really sucks. Hope your allergies subside soon!!!! Mine are year round but just leave me congested all the time....not nearly as bad as what you are going through right now. I take stuff yr round, but now have a presc nasal spray to try with it.

Gail, that is a LOT of damage! I think the guy that was swept away was one that went down to watch it? Heard there were 5 guys watching it and 4 were rescued. Same person? Sad, regardless. I am getting a kick on hearing how the news people are fracturing the japanese names! I grew up with more Japanese than any other culture, and so the names are normal to me, but to hear the american newspeople pronounce them...priceless! They usually fracture the hawaiian words too, so I expect that. How neat that you found a PS that would do the lipo, wish mine would as that would be less invasive than cutting it all out with long incisions. Sorry the winery was boring...whats wid dat? We had to postpone our wine tasting at the wine shoppe since DH had a headache. Have a real busy day today, and thankful that it is sunny and will be in the upper 60's...yay!

Dorothy, ME thinks we should all come over and make a big splash in your pool when you get it all ready to go! BIg job, but know how much you will enjoy it when you can use it again! Good exercize too. We have a nice pool in our subdivision that we pay for, but have never used. Took the g'kids for swim lessons there, but never just go to swim. It overlooks the lake, so is really lovely. Then my parents have one in their gated area, that we could walk to. Maybe if I looked better in a swimsuit like I did a few yrs ago....but now.....would scare everyone away! Unless I go topless, then they can stare at my boobs and not notice now fat I have gotten...LOL. Anyway, good luck getting all that done, and don't get frostbitten fingers!!! OOPS, was posting and missed your last post! Lucky DD....hope she has a great time!!!! My DD went to Costa Rica with her class when she was 16....she could have gone to Europe, but the Costa Rica trip cost less, so I chose that one....LOL! They had a blast, but of course got away with a lot of stuff that wouldn't have happened had I been there. Things I didn't find out till years later. Good experience for your DD! Bet she is really excited!!!

Hope everyone is having a nice weekend! Where is everyone, btw? HTL is verrrrry empty today....we need to get into a partay mood!!! Dwink up gals, we gotta keep the TT's busy!

Just dropping in for a quick, strong drink.  Got blind sided at work yesterday--I thought things were going well this semester and found out that I may not be re-appointed when my contract runs out in June.  I never expected to hear that students are complaining that I'm not fair, or that they're scared of me.  So right now I'm feeling pretty devastated and discouraged, not much party company, sorry ladies.  I'll be back when I get myself sorted out.

Shoot NM, that is horrid. Just cause you actually DO your job and care about making sure the students are actually learning something. I know you are a very caring, concerned teacher and we need more like you. Hope the higher-ups realize that you are doing an excellent job, and the students are complaining cause they would rather be lazy and just ace through everything. Can imagine how devastating it is, to think that it is a possibility. Do you remember when that professor shot and killed several of her fellow professors and wounded others here at the university? I think it was 2yrs ago or so? Well, she was going to be let go and she just flipped. But apparently she had "flipped out" her whole life as she had not only killed her brother in MA when she was younger, but tried to send a bomb to another professor earlier. MUCH better to get it all out at the HTL and not go off the deep end. NOT that I think you would, just mentioned this to show how devastating such a thing can be. Now we gotta hope and pray that it won't happen, and they will realize you are quite an asset to the teaching profession. Sending some (((hugs))) your way, and I know Sadie will make sure she is there to give you lots of hugs and comfort. Pants, puleez make a ton of Lavendar Cocktails for NM, and make sure to keep the fukitol fountain filled. Sorry NM, hope you will be re-appointed, and we will support you through this.

Yes Adey, that is a yummy cocktail. We have many more of them here!

Adey, Wahine, thanks for the support.  I'm not going to flip out, I promise.  Not my style.  But I am seriously thinking about leaving teaching and going back to home health work.  The big increase in pay would make a huge difference in my general stress level, and I wouldn't be afraid to go to work half the time.  Right now I'm not sure how I'll get through the next clinical day.  I'm going to be wondering if how every word I say is being interpreted, worrying that every time I tell a student that something should be done another way that I'll be seen as picking on them, I am so tired of being scared, of being scared about money issues, about work issues, about bc issues, of wondering if I'll ever get to take a real vacation again, or ever get to have a normal life again.  Poor Sadie has been plastered to me since I got home from work yesterday, and is even now licking tears off my face and trying to climb into my lap.  My counselor once told me that I care too much, that I should try not to invest so much of myself in everything I do.  I thought she was crazy, but maybe she's got a point.  Which reminds me, I need to call her Monday and schedule an appointment.

Thank God for Sadie!!!! Glad you have other choices, and maybe this will be a blessing in disguise. Try not to worry about anything you say to the students.....don't let them scare you into not doing your job as you know how to do it. You will prevail over this!!! But I agree, good time to set up another appt with your counselor. AND get dwunk with your breast friends here and dwown your sowwows. We all love ya!!!!!

    Kiss

On a separate note, just found out our state still has appliance rebate money avail, so may get some back on the new d/w we just had to buy. Does anyone else check into that when replacing appls?

Oh NM!!!!! I'm so sorry - that is so very hurtful! How old are your students? I know some of my very favorite teachers and the ones I still think about and admire were the ones some people claimed to be scared of or thought too hard or unfair. It was the student's who had the problem not the teacher! They just didn't want to work and so they blame the teacher. I'd imagine that is what is happening with you. One of my very favorite English professors was very strict and he was to be honest a bit uptight but just brilliant and if you actually listened he had a fantastic very dry humor. I just adored him. Well, a lot of kids did end up complaining and chased him away. I was so sad. I did go to the administration and let them know what I felt about him and they did agree he was amazing but it wasn't the right fit for him. I saw him many years later at a theatre preformance and I was so flattered he remembered me so I got the chance to tell him what a wonderful teacher he was and what an impact he made on me. So remember teachers can not reach every student but it only takes a few or even 1 to make what you have shared really an important contribution.

You are such an amazing, lovely and kind person my heart breaks for you to be treated this way. Hope something really good comes out if this for you though.

Now I'm going to have to look back at Beanie's signature line - I even missed the fingernails?

Kathy - DH doesn't drink when he has a headache? wats wit dat?

NM - ouch. Don't take it personal... as the evil unjust mother of 2 teens, you are probably doing things right and that offends them.. Sheesh, no wonder there is a lack of good teachers in your field and my DH will have trouble getting into nursing school. I made a decision years ago to forego my teaching credential (elementary) and teach grownups who pay me a lot of money to hear what I have to say (that seems to be key). Hope you come back to the lounge so we can cheer you up. Jocks and Pants are working on a new dance for you...

Yes, the man has been reported dead... one of the 4 who were taking photos... thankfully not my DH since I talked him out of going to the shore yesterday. Actually it was way north of here and no one here was lost or injured. Well since the tsunami didn't hit my house I don't know why it looks like this but I guess I should do something about it. Have a wonderful sunny Saturday, friends!

... speaking of which, where is our Beanie?

Kathy - whenever there have been appliance rebates or HVAC rebates  - I am always just out of the frame for them to apply!!! Ugh. Hope you can get them!

AStorm - goodness glad you talked him out of going to the shore! Such scary and terrifying news! It makes you wonder how much can people actually deal with but then I guess that is why bodies go into shock so they can deal and get through everything. Can't imagine the horror of everything in Japan and just hope and pray it doesn't get worse.....

Beautiful chilly sunny day here. The landscape guys came and surprised me with moving some big old iron pots of my Mom's and putting in some topiary shapes I've been meaning to do since 2006. It was such a nice surprise to come home to last night! Unfortunantly I had hoped to repaint them before they were moved and planted..... oops.

Heard from my sister : her husband is going to have the radiation ( they think they can aim it a bit higher and get at the tumor without getting the previously raidated section then chemo. This will take 6 weeks then 6 weeks rest and they will test. If the tumor has responded and shrunked then they think they will be able to operate!!!! Hope this will be true! Afterwards they will want him to do another 6 weeks chemo. Funny he is totally in for everything except the last round of chemo?? I just hope he gets to have the surgery then the last bit should be just protection!!! Finally a bit of news that isn't so gloom and doom. Just hope and pray it actually works! Will send some flowers now that I know they aren't leaving for second opinions. Still no matter what I do I'm just I'll be criticized for it later as I'm always the wrong and horrible one but trying to help and do the right thing just hard with some family members!

Hope everyone has a lovely Saturday - it is still Saturaday.... yes? Oh saw the fingernails! LOL!!! goodsness what a huge supply of fashion pink leopard there is out there! Who knew? and the signature line ..... well only Beanie could have that line!!!! Ha Ha ha.......
