Good morning all, It's 7:30....where's Wendy. Well, sounds like it will not be too nice up North.....lots of snow while we are gray with rain. Not thrilled...the rain I can deal with....but the gray. Had a cousin that painted everything gray....she loved the color. It's not so bad if there is sun shining on it......but I still have a hard time with it as a color.
Hope all are well and I know we HAVE all enjoyed those pictures from the lunch.......oh yeah.
Hope Julie is coming along. Also, Kats and all the new ladies here.
Well, I need to get some of my early work started and will be back later. See ya then.

Checking in. I had a horrible weekend. Friday, before the lunch, I woke up with a horrible headache and pain in my upper jaw. I had dental work the day before, I thought it was just residual from that. I popped some OTC pain meds and came to the lunch, but by Saturday the pain had increased to feeling like someone was pounding nails into my face and eye, and I look like a lopsided chipmunk. Prescription pain meds make me ill, so I admit that I've been suffering. Of course this would happen on the weekend (okay, so I should have called on Friday). I'm pretty sure one of my old old fillings cracked when the dentist was working on a different tooth. I'll go in today.
The lunch was wonderful. Yes, Wendy, I'm very open about my mastectomy scars. LOL, I'll show them to anyone. Rita, thanks for the nice compliments. I watched a lot of "What not to wear" during my chemo and surgery recovery.
I can do the March lunch as long as it's on Friday.
Leeza and Calypso- I'll join Michelle in nagging you about those follow-up drs. appointments. Please go in and find out what's happening.
Julie and Jackie, and anyone else undergoing treatment, hope you are feeling well.I have to go lie down now....

Hi all -
Well this winter stinks!! I can't believe I'm listening to talk about another winter storm! Lucky Laura for missing this one!
Thanks for all the pictures, Kater. You are a great photographer! It took me a bit to figure out that you snuck your head in there - it looked so natural.
Michele - not much curl on my hair yet. I had naturally thick/wavy hair before, so we will see what happens.
blackjack - our place is on Paw Paw Lake in Coloma, MI - just past Benton Harbor. I know what you mean about the lake being like glass - love it like that! And no, I don't remember Laura's Vegas dates. I guess we will have to wait until she gets back.
Have a great day ladies!

Good morning ladies. Made it through the weekend with neuoropathy. Smerf and tdbear I know the feeling and it really sucks. I actullay got up and went to church Sunday and the whole time there I was in such pain I wanted to get up and walk out. I bet people thought I was nuts because I could not sit still. The pain gets so intense some times including in my abdomin. Is that part of it too? And I have black nail syndrom going on. I hope mine don't fall off. The palms of my hands were black too it that normal? The color is starting to come back though. Otherwise life is good. Ready to get back to normal. Is anyone into Oprah? Are any of you reading the book a New Earth? It's going to be a 6 wk interactive web class starting in March. I plan to get the book to start me on my new journey of life. One more to go...Hip...hip,,,horray!!!!
here is my email address sabrina35_1969@yahoo.com. send me a copy of the pictures of the luncheon I would love to see them
Have a great day

Just a few quick thoughts here....Jan Clare how wonderful you went on Friday with the dental problem and how lousy to have to go through the whole week-end with your mouth hurting. You are special for that.
Sabrina hooray for you that your down to 1 to go. That's fantastic. Sure be glad when I can say that. I'm sure everyone was.
Blackjack....winter has been going on for two years now hasn't it????March has just got to be better.
All be safe in this weather and talk at ya later.

WINTER BE GONE!!!
Wendy Where are you??
Sabrina I had neuropathy in belly area too but that went away. Now just the feet & fingers are still numb. Esp when I sit or stand in 1 place for awhile!!
Friday Lunch 11:30 works great for me!! I have to be @ airport by 6pm so should have enough time for lunch!!!LOL
Hope everyone is feeling better.
Janclare hope your dentist is able to help you!

Friday for lunch sounds good. I'll ask for it off today at work.
Could someone send me the pictures of your group get-together?
my email is luv2stmp2@verizon.net
It is a yucky day out. Thought it would be warmer but I guess not.
I got two kids home sick today and have to go to work at noon. They will be alone for a few hours but they are old enough to hold down the fort and take care of themselves. Now if they had fevers or were throwing up I would stay home.
Janclare..hope your mouth gets better. When I come to the next lunch I will share my mastectomy scars too. I'd show them to anyone who wants to see them. I don't think it's a big deal.
Well...need to get ready for work...

OK...she's back...you know, the snow-be-gone fairy. I watched the weather channel this am and saw the ice/rain/sleet/wind AND 7-9 inches of snow so I have been running around, doing errands so DH can have the SUV tomorrow. I don't drive his car as I am too embarrassed to be seen in it (does the term "crapmobile" say it all???) and my little "Z" would be useless.
Kater....your pictures are all wonderful. You do have a talent, girl.
Sabrina....so sorry about your neuropathy. I had some tingling but that was it. When Laura gets back, maybe (if you would like), PM her your name, add, phone#, e-mail, BD and dx anniv date. We have a nice little list going. Only if you want, and I thought you might as you put in your e-mail. Now...that being said...this forum is not protected and anyone could get your e-mail! I copied it down and I added you to my list. Maybe you might want to edit your post, and take it out??? Just a thought cuz you know spammers keep hitting this website.
Julie....are you OK?
Calypso/Leese...did you guys make some phone calls yet?
Blackjack....Karin is staying near 90 and 25 and has a car so anything near 90 would be OK for her. Maybe just go back to Biaggi's? I thought it was pretty nice and they didn't care how long we sat there. But I don't want to start dictating where we go and that was my idea last time.
Jackie....when do you start T? Or did you tell me already?
Jan...sorry about your dental woes. I had no idea you weren't feeling up to par...should have said something.
Nancy...sorry you couldn't come. I had to laugh about what Rita said. She was about a week ahead of me so I knew to wear a zip-front hoodie just in case and I didn't need it as all my markings were in a different place than hers. I had to get the tattoos but I sure don't know why...my body absorbed them and I had to be sharpie-marked and sticky dotted anyway. I would just refuse them next time. My techs were 3 guys and they co-ordinated the sharpies to my outfit. They had a whole collection of them donated by a patient who was 82 and refused to be marked up unless she matched. Now that was a lady I'm sorry I never got to meet! Great attitude....
I'm probably missing a bunch of people but I need to dig out the blower papers as I can't remember how much oil needs to be mixed with the gas - chemobrain again!
I'll check back later....everyone have a great day and those of you who will be out and about later today and tomorrow, please be extra careful in the snow and ice.

Good Morning All
What a frustrating day, I got a call from the Surgeons nurse, she needs my cat scans before she can order the MRI, I told her I brought them in Thurs she calls back OK they're with the secretary from an other dept. Can I call and make sure the get delivered????????? then she tells me to call her??? later this week to schedule the MRI?????? They won't do the surgery or even schedule it til I have the 2nd cat scan for the lung guy. I'm babbling but I'm so frustrated. So it looks like my surgery won't be until mid May, How am I going to fit in rads surg, maybe chemo, and not run out of sick pay? If I go back to work now I have to give up 5 vacation days again to go on sick leave. I'm out of vacations days for this year. My boyfriend ever loving just says "don't stress, you're going to get yourself depressed again" well I am depressed I want this over with. I think they're should be someone coordinating this shi* I shouldn't have to do my own follow up. How do I know this isn't growing while I sit around and wait! Is Cobleigh hoping for that so she gets a juicy case? Ok I'm done. back to nice Leesa....
Hi All,
Hope all your weekends were great.
Kater can you send me the pictures??? My e-mail is leesalapenna@gmail.com
I really need to clean this house I haven't even finished unpacking from last week, I seem to spend all my time reading bc sites.
There's laundry, floors that need washed, yucky bathrooms, and did I tell you all I forgot to make my mortgage payment, came back from FL and said to myself "wow why do I have so much money in the checking account?" well forgeting a mortgage will do that for you. lol I called them and told them I'm a little ditzy right now, they believed me. Didn't know I'm ditzy all the time! Okay I'm doing housework and getting off this computer.
Love and kisses
Leesa

Hello! It was SO nice to meet you Boobs....I mean ladies! I can't tell you how meaningful it was for me. I do feel I've been acting sort of like I'm hoping to wake-up from this nightmare and find that it's not real.... but having "woken-up" now, it's really not such a bad reality. Good folks to walk this path together with!
After I pulled up in my driveway after lunch I had a good long cry. Then went in and called my surgeon. My post-op is scheduled for this Thursday at 1:30pm. I'll be sure to let you know how that goes.
I didn't get to feel Leesa's boobs, but I was enjoying staring at them the whole lunch. THANKS for that!
More later, got to go work-out and eat my PBJ....

The radiation planning went well. Unfortunately, I have the permanent tattoos...I called my husband and told him...and he said....cool.... I have never been with a woman with a tattoo!! I start my treatments next Monday. I spoke with my oncologist and I think...well at least at this moment......I am leaning towards the Tamoxifin route. I am afraid to be thrown into menopause from surgery or drugs, unless I have too. He said I will be in menopause soon, and then they can switch me to the other drugs. Actually, I think I am more concerned about the body pains I have read about from the AI's then I am about the stroke or blood clots from Tamoxifin.... boy I must be weird.... Who knows what I will do as I have 6 weeks before I need to decide. If my BRCA1 comes back positive then that is a whole new set of decisions I will have to deal with.
Kater, can I ask why you had your ovaries removed?
Get ready for more snow...they are saying 6-9 inches where I live...I am actually looking forward to it....as I can shovel again...I know...I am a sick individual!

Suzanne,
I am sooo happy you finally called your surgeon and got your
post- op appointment. If you can bring someone with you who can write down the answers and tx plan for you. Ask lots of questions about your tx plan. I am so glad you came to lunch and it was a pleasure to meet you. Remember we all have been there and will be there to help you throught this. You are not alone.
You are strong inside and you will make it throught this.
Keep us posted on what the md says about your tx.
Here is a really big hug to you!!!

Can you make lunch in March? Let me know.
Wendy..any suggestions for a restaurant is fine. I don't know the area by you just was thinking about being close to the expressway for the others. What about Claim jumpers on Higgins by the expressway??Is that closer? What do you think?? Never being there?? What are your thoughts on this??

Hi all,
Sorry about the dental woes. I had some crown trouble during chemo. My dentist said it's not uncommon. Because chemo drugs so often cause decreased saliva he said teeth can be at risk for cavities and crown damage. I cracked a molar and was in the chair for four hours during chemo. My blood was apparently not clotting normally, and he could not get a dry field to apply crown. I had a CBC at onc's office 1/2 hour before, and she said it was a go, but not so much as it turned out. I correctly dx pain, swelling and headache as beginning infection, and called dentist at home the next evening. Peroxide topically, and antibiotics did the trick in 24 hours. Yikes, what a miserable experience. Took my mind off of chemo though!
Leesa and Calypso I'm so happy you've called your doctors! I know how hard it is, but everyone here is ready to help every way we can.
I had discolored nails for a LONG time after taxol. Finally they seem back to normal. I didn't have any fall off, though I know some people who did have that problem. Foot neuropathy is very persistent, and my eyes water a lot, right more than left. I had a lot of eye swelling during tx, but it is almost gone now. So far I'm ned, so it was worth it, but I remember being depressed about it at the time.
NancyLa Your husband sounds like mine with that comment. I was dead set against tattoes, but my rad onc said he only uses two or three at most. I finally consented, and I have two, one on the middle, and the other kind of under the arm. My middle one is so small they had to turn the light on each day to find it! For the boost they did another simulation, and I had black magic marker all over me for two weeks. Tattoes are blue.
Ginny and Sabrina....Not sure if you mind, but anyone on internet can read our posts and see your e-mail address.LauraGTO is keeping a private e-mail and information list for us. If you'd like you can send your info to her, and she will add you to the list. Then you'll automatically get pics and stuff! Or you can send PM if you wish, and your e-mail address will stay private.
Have to go out and play in the snow! The sun is brilliant, and it is warmer here than at home.
Big hugs to everyone!

I am not sure what color my tattoos are as there are blue marker lines by them...but I think they too are blue... I am having my rad tx done at Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Heights. I have had everything done there and I am very happy with how I am treated...well except for the needles....I just hate the needles.....
I had better get use to them...
I am not sure if I can make lunch, as I would have to leave by 1:15, because my treatment is at 2:15 daily. I am on a waiting list for a later time, so maybe I can make it. Sorry for the flip answer, but at this time, I just do not know.

I really thought I posted an update yesterday, but I don't see it.
Sorry I have been MIA for months, chemo was really rough on me and I spent most of my time in bed since September. My last chemo was Jan 24 and I have neuropathy now. I am having trouble walking and my legs get weak from standing. The oncologist wasn't sure what was causing it. I saw him Friday and he did more blood work and was going to call around to specialists and see if he could get an idea why I am struggling. Everything else is pretty good. My port seems to flip on it's side all the time, the nurses said that happens.
I hope everyone is okay, will try to read back on messages.

Figures...I filled up the snowblower with a fresh mix of gas and oil...and now it is pouring.
Suzanne....I'm sure that I speak for all of us that I am sorry that you sat all alone in your driveway, crying. We would hav sat with you. But I am soooo happy that you have an appt. set up for Thursday and you'd better post that night and tell us what happened!
Nancy....no problem if you can't make lunch. If not this time, next time! Rads first! My tats were blue too but have disappeared. And if you had SNB you do need to watch the heavy stuff and that would include shoveling. Less of a chance for LE, true...but you want to be a little more careful of that arm. I had the gene testing too (my Dad and his sister had BC, dx'd in their 80's) but I was negative.
Blackjack....Claimjumpers would be a good one! Can we just start with their "I Delcair"? That is the biggest dessert I have ever seen!!! Higgins (72) and 59 should be pretty close for everybody. But they are very busy at lunch.
Leesa...do I have that right? You won't be having surgery until May?????? That can't be right....and boy do I remember the early days of Bc - whole days would go by and all I had to show for 10 hours was a sore butt and a dead computer battery.
Off to stir up a batch of florentine meatballs...they're made with the italian seasoned ground turkey with a a box of chopped spinach and cheese and stuff. Yummy!!!!! Another recipe from Foodnetwork.com.....

Started to rain here before I could get out to do the feral cats....drats. I made a little shelter area for two of the spots, but one is still wide open. Got there and only very minor sprinkles so hope they both ate.
Leesa and Calypso....way to go. Sorry there was some agony connected but when you know about something...you can do something about it...to make your life better. This is a heck of a thing to have to deal with...no one planned to have this major interuption in life--not only affecting our own life but that of our loved ones and friends. Glad that you finally made those appts. and will stand up to this thing and beat it out of existence.
On that note....Wendy. I start the Taxotere this Wednesday. I have to start the pre-meds tomorrow....2 pills in the a.m. and two in the p.m. If this darn stuff isn't turning me into the thing I said I'd never become---a pill popper. As the time gets nearer and nearer I find myself a tad nervous. I pretty well knew what to expect with the A/C, but this feels like the first time almost all over again and I'm not liking that. On the upside.....it won't be near as long an infusion. They always do my labs statso hopefully the nearly all day senario will not happen now.
We will stop by Sams Club on the way home--we pass it actually before we get to the Interstate, so hope I'm up for some minor shopping. Don't have much and I imagine that may be a good thing.
All take care and stay dry.

Ok Wendy, tonight I am trying your Chicken Paprikash (sp?). I'll let you know how it goes. I don't think I put as much paprika in as you said-wasn't sure how strong that spice is.

Update - the chicken came out very good, however, next time I'll use more seasoning-very good though! Thanks for the recipe - always looking to try different meals-getting tired of making the same old things.

Hi gals!
It sounds like the plans are in effect for the March luncheon. You gals are "on the ball." Is March 21st Good Friday? I think I'll be able to make it. Ginny, I'm disappointed! I thought we'd be able to ride up together and get caught up!
Suzanne, I'm so glad that you called and got a post op appointment. It is a good idea to take somebody with you because it's hard to listen and take notes at the same time. You're so "uptight" at these appointments that you don't remember everything they tell you so it's good to have an extra set of ears and a note taker with you. We'll be waiting to hear what you find out. I know it is so mind-boggling but you will have a much better idea about what to do after you talk with them on Thursday. HUGS!
Jackie...good luck on Wednesday. Isn't it hard to go to the next step in this journey? The unknown is so tough but after Wednesday you'll be back into the groove. We'll keep our fingers crossed for no side effects!
Pat....glad to hear from you while you're on vacation and glad that it's going well!
Nancy from Quincy...I wondered what had happened to you. I got on the chat and asked Mazy and she didn't know either. Gosh, it's good to hear from you. I am so sorry that you've had such a bad time. I hope that they find a specialist who can help you. You're due for a "break." Please keep in touch! HUGS!!!
Mary Jane and I had a great day today as we shopped Peoria. We stopped into the Susan G. Komen center and saw the shirts for this year's race. Of course the survivor shirts are pink but the other ones are white with pink and ORANGE designs. Really different! Anyway, you know you're a grandma when you come home with a pair of bowling shoes for yourself and books, stuffed animals and size 4 slim jeans!!! LOL It's so much fun to shop for them!!!
Well, hello to everyone! I'll check in tomorrow. Hopefully you won't be using that snow blower, Wendy. I'm sick of this stuff! LOL
Blackjack...the tulips have opened up and are just lovely.
Thank you again.Catch you tomorrow and I will try to be a bit more personal! I know there were a lot of you I missed in this post but I think of you all everyday!

Nancy LA about OVARIES OUT.
I dont have a husband, etc. so moods didn't worry me..
My Mom was dx'd with ovarian cancer June 98 so 10 years of reading about that and how it takes till stage 3 or 4 before you even find it...BC is related to ovarian cancer in some ways.
and you can take arimidex when you really get into menopause, and my tumors were hormone positive so the ovaries are cooking up tumor food...
arimidex is seemingly a touch better than tamoxifen....
those things added up....my mom was brca negative, i did not get tested, my oncologist said NO to ovaries out, yet afterwards he mentioned, "I just had two others that had their ovaries out...."
The female gyne from Barrington IL said, "if i were you, i'd get them out"
that was enough for me!
Maybe someday I'll be dating again and whippee!!!! chuckle.
Oh, and there are like 3 pin pricks from the laparoscopic surgery...little or no pain (i took pain pills for 7 days and slept)...one is in bellybutton, one in hair and one looks like just another cat scratch. 8-)
kater
March outing.
ginny....i didnt realize how far away you live, but maybe we could get together 11 am or so, and i hate for teddybear to have ANY stress about getting to airport in time. Who from last lunch bunch is going, I can bring your photo cds then.

Hi gals...
Good morning ladies! It's white outside again today. I guess we got about 2 inches....not nearly as bad as they had forecasted. A few flurries are still coming down but not enough to keep me out of the bowling alley this morning! LOL I have to try out those new bowling shoes that we ran all over Peoria to find. :-)
JanClare, I hope that your teeth are doing better. Chemo did the big one on my teeth and I've just spent 6 weeks bonding with the dentist, replacing a crown (fun, eh Pat???) and now am down to only one cavity that I need to get fixed. There's always something. You must have a high pain tolerance as I didn't have a clue you were having problems on Friday. I wish I could look like that when I'm hurting!!! HUGS!
Well, Wendy is probably blowing snow, Laura is waking up to sunshine and warmth, and I'm off for the shower. Be careful if you're out and about today, gals. How much snow did you get in the northern area???
I'll be back later!
Rita

Good Morning! Isn't it a beautiful morning....actually had my coffee out on the deck.
Mich101 - glad you liked the chicken paprikash. It's one of those hand-me-down recipes that changes with each generation. Paprika is a fairly mild spice and you can add quite a bit. If you want the meatball recipe from yesterday, it is from the FoodNetwork under Rachel Ray and it is "Florentine Meatballs". I don't do the sauce part, just open a jar of Barilla! This recipe is one of those you can hide spinach in and your family will eat it!
Rita...sounds like you had so much fun yesterday. I need some retail therapy too but the stores don't seem to have a lot of spring stuff, but I did see some cute tops in the latest Victoria Secret catalog...
Nancy from Quincy...you have had quite a time of it! I assume you have made the rounds of specialists for your neuropathy? That just s**ks for you! BC was quite enough, no need to whack you over the head with another baseball bat.
Leese...oh, mid March is better. Well, not better, but sooner. Oh heck..you know what I mean!
We got about 5 inches I guess, very wet and heavy but I was able to blow it all in about 45 minutes and that included cleaning off the SUV and doing the street so they don't dump another 2 feet at the end of the driveway as usual. Going to be in the 40's I see this weekend so a good melt is on the way I think.
Jackie...good luck with the Taxotere. I was extremely fortunate and had no problems during chemo and I am so hoping for the same for you. Everything I have read here and elsewhere seems like for the majority of pts the T portion was much easier than the AC.
Pat...you sound like you are having a ball. When are you coming back?
Susan...you had some tests, correct? You OK?
Ginny...sorry you can't make the next lunch, but there will be a time that you can.
Tummy's growling so I will go feed the monster....be careful driving!
