Illinois ladies facing bc

Hi Irina,
Welcome, and Jackie does speak well for all of us. The ladies here are a great bunch, and always ready to help. Please tell us more about yourself.
Jackie...How far south is Centralia? I should look at my map, but is lazy way to just ask. I thought it was more in the middle than south. Hope you're feeling better soon. Chemo really knocked me out, and there was no way I could have ever gone to work. I don't work outside the home anyway, but you know what I mean. I guess I'm like Wendy describes herself, a lazy butt! I'm hoping taxotere will be easier on you than ac was. Taxol was much easier for me, though fatigue builds up. I'm sorry we're both missing lunch, and Maggiano's is good! There is one ten minutes from my house, at the Old Orchard shopping center. I'm having fun in the sun here, in spite of snow piled up higher than me everywhere. Temps about 50 degrees, and teenagers, God bless 'em, are wearing bermuda shorts!

Hi Pat,
I'm in the upper portion of the southern part of the state. This area I'm in is known for the more moderate ( sure can't prove that these last two days of ice ) temperatures......it has had the nickname of Little Egypt for eons....even our daily paper The Sentinel as part of it's letterhead says.....Egypt's Greatest Daily. On a map.....the easiest way to find Centralia, is to look across the river at St. Louis, Mo......we are almost in a straight line due East. We are about an hr & 10 mins from St. Louis---depending on who is driving.
I think we are just barely considered south as we are not quite in the middle.
I'm glad to hear someone else got wiped out with the chemo on a routine basis. I've beat myself up a time or two wondering how such a strong ( at least I always saw myself that way ) person could lose such ground. I chalked up a lot of it to the inability to eat for several days...which was only nausea for two or three days...the next two or three was rotten tastes, too much mouth liquids which just destroyed any semblance of an appetite and exhaustion which I thought would pass.
You know....we just never stop learning here.
Hope all are having a great time at the restaurant.
Jackie
an easier way to have said this might have been....I'm basically in the middle of the state somewhat if your going east to west, but if your using north and south.....then I pretty much make it into the upper portion of the bottom of the state which would put me just into the southern portion. Hope I didn't just make it more confusing.

Great news today. My Oncotype DX score is 12, so I do not have to go the chemo route. I start 6 weeks of radiation next week and then hormone therapy. My oncologist mentioned doing the BRAC 1+ BRAC2 test, so I figure why not. The more information I have the better, so I can make the best possible decisions.... and then I will hope and pray that God just keeps sending me good news.
Does anyone belong to any BC support groups? I belong to one at my church, but was also thinking of going to the one that they have at NW Community Hospital.
I hope you all had fun at lunch.

H gals!
I am home. I ran into some traffic congestion around Joliet and other than that, I just cruised along.
I was so happy to meet all you new gals and to see Laura, JanClare, Connie, and Kater again.
I will write more in the morning! We are going to go out and get Dave something to eat (since I'm not cooking and I'm not very hungry after that delicious lunch!!)
Catch you in the morning!
Rita

Just checking to to see if Rita is home safe and sound, and you are! I was so happy to meet you, finally!
Kater...I never thought of you selling all the pictures you took! Could you please put my head on LauraGTO's body? Thank you!
Blackjack...thanks again so much for the flowers..what a lovely thought to give us something we can enjoy today and then plant in the fall to enjoy for the rest of our lives. You are so sweet.
Laura...thanks again for the little charm. And you got it so right...we all hold pieces of this weird little puzzle we have all started to play, and when we all get together with our different "pieces" we make a whole. And that's what friendship is all about.
Calypso....did you call yet???????? I told you...we will bug you every day. And as my DH knows very well, I can REALLY nag! I was great to meet you.
Leesa...you are a hoot! And you getting BC again so soon is soooo not right. Let us know which path you decide...you sure got a lot a really good suggestions. Let us know how we can help...anything you need, you sure have a couple of us very close to you. Just reach out your hand...
JanClare...I will look thru the posts for you. Did I tell you today how absolutely cute you are?
Kater....All those pictures you took! You are amazing! Thank you so very much for doing that. (And if you post my picture on how to cure wrinkles, I will hunt you down - trust me). Happy Pre-Birthday!
Sharon...it was great to meet you too! And I am still going with "nothing"! Have a safe trip next month...post when you can and let us know what you are up to. Pics would be great and very welcome.
Connie....ah to be young and have perfect skin! Oh...and may I say the most beautiful eyebrows!!!!! Your hair is so cute...are you going to keep it short? Nice to meet you as well.
I had a wonderful time...and when and where next month????? I know Connie and Laura are both off on Fridays...and don't forget Karin will be in Elgin 3/18-21.
Everbody have a great evening!

Hi Ladies that Lunch,
It was wonderful to meet all of you, I am so happy!! I feel like I've known you forever, how often do you meet people for the first time and they're feeling your boobs within an hour?? It was great. I can't wait to do it again. Thank you so much for all your advice, help and support. I really feel like I have a team behind me. I can't wait to see the pictures, there's a sight called snapfish where you can upload pictures and invite people to see them, you can also order photos, maybe one of you computer savy (blackjack kater) girls can look into starting something we all can add to and share.
Dear Nancy,
I'm sorry you're here, but,I just found these ladies and I think it was a blessing from God, if you have to have b/c this is the place to go. It's like Cheers (remember from TV) but with insightful, intelligent, funny and wonderful women who within the group have either been there or are on there way there and can guide you, teach you, and most of all hold you up if you need it.
I thank all of you from the bottom of my huge boobies
Hugs and Kisses
Leesa

Wait a minute...I just came back to tell JanClare I sent her a PM and I find out I didn't get to feel Leesa's Boobs?????? Well, next time I guess! (and please note that I capitalized "Boobs" and I do mean capitalized...and you are right Leesa...if you were going to do it, do it right!)
Who else but a bunch of BC survivors would go out to lunch together, not really knowing each other at all...and start showing scars in a restaurant? I will forever carry in my head....JanClare turning to Calypso while pulling her t-shirt out saying "Want to see my mastectomy scars?" And Calypso saying "Sure" and looking down Jan's shirt. Now that would have been a priceless picture!
Nancy...see what you missed???????
And Irina...truly, welcome to our group. Please tell us a bit more about yourself. One of us, Sparker38 (Sabrina) is up near Rockford as well. I bet she will chime in too with a welcome. We all do have a serious side to us, but we come here for a bit of fun too, in the midst of chaos and confusion. Can we help with anything?
How about we change our name to the "Rowdy Girls"???
Laura...you have fun!
0 -
Wendy..I like Girls wanna have fun, fun, fun....Party animals that you all are right?? You know I didn't get to feel Leesa Boobies either, so I feel cheated. lol
It was a fun day. Who wants to be the party planner for March..St. Patty Day is right around the corner..we can all wear green..
Have a great evening..my son is home now and I am soooooo happy.

Omygosh, I thought I would miss something good and I did,but glad you all had such a good time. Someone had to stay home and 'man the computer sight. Happy Happy Birthday to Kater and at least 80 more.
Kats....where are you??? Haven't heard from you for a while. Hope all is well with you.
Nancy....what great fantastic news to get.....that was a real shot in the a** (arm) wasn't it????? I am thrilled for you.
I had an interesting day.....cleaned off quarter inch of ice off all my car windows this afternoon. Went and fed feral cats...home just a bit and hospital called.....I went and picked Maggie up and took her to the Manor for rehab....don't know how long. Didn't expect to be out in this at all. Wasn't too bad though.
Long day tomorrow again. I am feeling like I don't get caught up very well...probably just me.
Thrilled that ya'll had such a good time. I'm jealous, but I'll live. I'm off to the living room for the duration.
Talk to ya'll tomorrow.
Jackie
p.s. Who ate for me and what did I have ???????

All I can say is wow. I had a great time today meeting all of you and being able to assign a face (or a boob) with a name.
I came home and made a list of all the names and a bit of info about each, as my postmenopausal tamoxified brain cannot remember much.
I laughed and enjoyed the jokes that only people in this group could understand. That is the wonderful part, to be with people who have faced difficulties and overcome them.
I leave for Jersualem on March 5th and will not be back until August 12th, unless my body plays a trick on me.
I will watch the boards for news of all of you.
Thanks for the flowers, they are beautiful.

I haven't been here forever. Finally finished four months of chemo and had more problems than any of the oncologists had seen before. It was really awful, I don't know how I made it through it, except for God! Now I am dealing with yucky fingernails, loose and falling off and neuropathy. My last treatment was four weeks ago and I have been having trouble walking more than about 2 blocks and standing for more than five minutes. My legs get weak and I have to stop and sit down.
They don't know what it is, I saw my onc today. He was going to call Barnes and also talk to local neurologists. He did additional blood work, but I didn't hear back on it yet. He is totally perplexed and wondering if it is from the neuropathy or the meds I take for it.
Has anyone had this before? Sorry I haven't posted, spend about 3/4 of my time in bed and just got really sick of the whole cancer/chemo routine.
Hope everyone is doing well.
Nancy

OFF TOPIC, TODAY'S LUNCHEON
It's so nice meeting with girls in the same "boat"...thanks again to everyone for everything today, and all the rest of you thinking of us while we were adding calories. smile.
(Oh and Mark the caregiver and I finished off that chocolate cake).
I hope we can keep planning and keep seeing more faces each time...
Sharon, I wonder if we'll get to see you before you leave in March, could March be here that soon!? Darn! Is your address on the addy list, I want to make sure you get your photo cd before you leave.
We were trying to think of a nickname honoring our "fearless leader", Dutchess came to mind.... 8-) (better than Queen?)....She drove more than two hours to see us, that was especially special.
hugs..kater
Who had the Garmin gps that they liked and what model is it?

I can't believe this test is available for ovarian cancer.
I have not read the 10 pages yet.
http://www.yaleobgyn.org/reproimmuno/yeda.htmlBiomarkers warn of a “silent killer”
High or low levels of certain proteins can signal the likelihood of ovarian cancer.
Now a group headed by Gil Mor, M.D., Ph.D., associate professor of obstetrics, gynecology and reproductive sciences, has found a way to detect the “silent killer” in its earliest stages, according to a report in May in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences. The researchers devised a screening test that measures levels of six cancer-related proteinsleptin, prolactin, osteopontin and insulin-like growth factor II (IGF-II), Macrophage Inhibitory Factor (MIF) and CA-125in blood samples. These biomarkers are proteins that change in response to several different forms of cancer, perhaps as part of the immune response. “Our strategy is unique in that we are using a combination of proteins representative of how the total system reacts to cancer, rather than focusing on one protein,” said Mor. Previous studies had identified each of the six proteins as possible biomarkers, but Mor’s team found that individually none of the proteins served as a reliable indicator of cancer.
In a preliminary study of more than 500 women, the screen accurately detected ovarian cancer in 99 percent of cases. The specificity of the testthose correctly diagnosed as disease-freealso stood at 99.76 percent.

Hi Girls - Well...it's 3 in the morning I'm guzzling a cup of coffee,,,waiting for the limo.
Last night I didn't have time to address each of you, but wanted to say again that it was great talking w/you all yesterday. It's amazing... the bond we have. We have lots of get-togethers this spring...blackjack's house, my house, JanClare's and near Rita's. I can hardly type...I'm so tired right now. But I know all will be well once we're on the plane and headed for "heaven" on earth - Riviera Maya!
I'll check in once we're settled in.
Nanc - I'm so sorry you're having such a hard time...I'm hoping you bounce back soon. I had a very hard time during chemo too...hang in there.
Nancy -That's great news...no chemo!
Irena - Welcome to our little corner of the state!
0 -
Morning!
Not much to say as I think I am talked out from yesterday!
Kater...I like "Duchess" or "Queen" for Rita. How about "Her Greatness, the Fairy Boob Queen"?
Having never seen Rita in person and just seeing her face in her avatar/group photo and knowing that she was a teacher and was/is involved in scholastic bowls and she did bowling I actually thought I had a nice little picture of her in my head.
BOY WAS I WRONG! In struts this one hot mama in blue jeans, killer leather jacket and a long mane of crazy blonde hair. Rita...wow!
Sharon, you were so funny with your last post! Putting a "boob" to the name! LOL
I do envy Laura..she must be boarding that flight as I type and she will be at the pool by 2pm. Lucky girl. If the temps go up enuf by 2pm I will be out chopping the ice from the driveway edges/mailbox!
Off for my 2nd cuppa! OH...and Sabrina...as we were a VERY strange little group yesterday, Boob-wise, probably a good thing you weren't able to make it yesterday. Knowing us, we would have asked you to take out your new boob and pass it around the table AND Kater would have taken a picture of it!!!!!

Mornin
Blackjack....you outdid yourself it seems, but you made everyone's day. How special and how very, very nice. You are all nice people though.
Bad weather stayed away during the night......so won't be bad here today. Weather report said we would even have some sun. I'm sure ready....I need my sun.
Nancy....so sorry to hear that your having such struggles with your after effects. Hope an answer turns up quickly and you get back on your feet in a hurry.
Kater...our fountain of knowledge. That is pretty special too...I wouldn't know where to look for all that great info you turn up.
Laura....you didn't stow me away...now not only am I starving but I'm still in the cold and snow....grrrrrr.
I'll be checking in all day as usual. See you then.

Rita, you'r right. Victoria Secret is the best. I had mastactomy and reconstraction in 2004. I can't were bras long time. I try hundreds of bras, but nothing work for me. But now i'm very happy with Victoria Secret, and I don't have the best from them, because all my bras Victoria`Secret are from Solv.Army store. I were them at day and at night.
Irina
Kisses for all my new sisters

Good morning ladies!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, KATER!!!!
Yesterday's lunch was FUN!!!! Blackjack...thanks for putting it all together and for the tulips! They look so "springy" sitting on my counter this morning and I'll plant them right in the middle of my tulip bed when this snow moves out. Also glad your son is home. Enjoy the visit!! Laura and Leesa....thanks also for the "gifties." How thoughtful!!!
JanClare...please take me on a shopping trip with you! You have a way of putting it all together......clothes, style, jewelry, etc. Would you adopt me for a day and show me how you do it??? It was SO good to see you again. HUGS!
Wendy! Wow! I finally got to meet you! What do you mean....you want your head on Laura's body????? You're a tiny little thing yourself and so cute. I love your hair and your eyes just sparkle. I do agree with you, though. We all have things about ourselves that we don't like........(and nobody else notices them.) Anyway...I'm so glad that I got to meet you! You're a riot!
Sharon, your work fascinates me. If you ever decide you want more cash and want to write a different kind of question for scholastic bowl, let me know and I'll refer you to the guy who bought my business. He is always looking for good question writers. In the meantime, please keep in touch. We will be thinking about you when you return to Jerusalem.
Calypso...I hope we didn't overwhelm you! It was so nice to meet you. Please make that call and collect your information. Then you will be able to make the best decision for you. HUGS! It is all so mind-boggling and scary!
Kater...I still think you should do the glamour photos! YOU ARE GOOD! If you started your own business, you could work when you wanted to work and if you got burnt out, just stop for awhile. You looked great and I loved your wig! I also wish that you could have seen the poor guy's face (who was sitting directly behind you) when you whipped off the wig the first time. He looked like he had just seen "the ghost of times past!" LOL
I'm posting this and coming back. I don't want to write a book and have it bouncing around on the boards lost.

Kater.. I have a Garmin and I love mine. It is very user friendly. The model is nuvi 360. pm me if you would like more info.
Laura.. have a great time on your trip. I too hate those 4 am limo rides..but you can sleep on the plane and be rested when you hit the beach. Take pics of yourself in your hot pink bikini to share with us
so we can be jealous of you. lol
Wendy.. your graphic is so true love, friendship and hugs is what we are all about .. like blooming flowers..it keeps on growing.
Jackie.. Hope you have a good day today and are feeling better.
Calyso..did you call yet..please get the ball rolling..we are here for
you.
Irna and Sabrina..hope you are feeling better and welcome to your thread.

O.K. Aren't you lucky? I'm back, just as I promised!
Leesa, I'm so glad you could join us! You add an additional spark to the group and I wish you the best. Please post about your Thursday visit to the lung guy so that all the gals who weren't at the luncheon will know how it went!
Laura...I'm sure I'm too late to wish you a bon voyage but I hope you have a fantastic trip. It was so good to see you again, dear sister! You're very special to me! I envy you the sun and warmth but you certainly deserve it!
Connie...I really DO love your hair. You looked so cute and I'm so glad that you're feeling well and doing well! It was so nice to see you again.
Nancy from Barrington.......you missed a fun afternoon but you got such GOOD NEWS!!!!!!No chemo....If I did graphics, I'd find a NO CHEMO DANCE graphic and post it just for you.
Pat..So neat that the Internet connects us all, even when we're away from home. I'm glad that you're enjoying the time away and am so surprised that it's warmer there than in good ol' Illinois. We missed you yesterday! :-)
Nanc..So sorry that you've had such a hard time with this journey. I can certainly see where you're sick of this cancer/chemo trip. Please post often and keep us updated. We are here for you if you need us.
Jacki..so glad that you and smerf manned the boards while we were doing lunch yesterday but sure wish that you could have joined us. You will have to think about driving up toward Bloomington to join us when we move it a little farther toward the center of the state. Everyone wants to meet you!!!
Michele...I really missed you at the luncheon! Glad to see your post and know that you are doing well.
Chiefette....I have been thinking and thinking about that Red-Necked Fishing Tournament. You don't happen to be a Beardstown gal do you? I lived in Macomb for 28 years....a pretty close neighbor and taught in Lewistown. Anyway, I think it was Beardstown that had a goofy fishing tournament like that for Asian carp and these silly fish jump out of the water and they catch them in nets. Sometimes they jump into the boats...no net needed. Am I getting hot here????
Irina...Please tell us a little more about yourself. What type of bc do you have? Where are you at in your treatment plan? Family? Job or career? We want to get to know you! Sabrina...here you go. She's from the Rockford area!!!
Julie...hope you're doing well. Please check in soon and tell us how it's going!
Susan...we need to get you retired so you can join us for these lunches!
KATS...I still want to meet you! I'm not giving up! :-)
MaryJane...Laura sent you a charm. Be sure to remind me and I'll give it to you on Monday.
Well...I'm off to pick up the clutter here. Also need to pick up some flowers from the florist to put on the church altar tomorrow in memory of my Mom.
So...I'm off and running today. Leesa, your biotene will come in handy because I'm still trying to get rid of that garlic taste from the meatball sandwich. The sandwich was fantastic but it was loaded with garlic....and by the way, I had the other half boxed up and then left it! (chemo brain again, Kater) I hope somebody spotted it and took it home and enjoyed it!
Catch you all later. Enjoy your weekend.
Rita

Hi girls!
Happy birthday Kater!
Yes, yesterday was a fun lunch and you outdid yourself blackjack with the flowers. They are sooo beautiful! It was so nice to meet you.
Thanks for manning the boards, Jackie. We had lots of good food for you! Soups, salads, pasta, bread and dessert!
I ran home, picked up the kids and got my daughter ready for International Day for girl scouts. Her troop was Korea and they did a cool Korean dance. It was a fun night.
It was great to meet you also Leesa, Wendy and Sharon and Calypso. And it was great to see Rita, Laura, JanClare and Kater again!
Wendy, I started that book last night - I'm on page 12! Ha. Seems good so far, but I seem to only find time to read before bed and no matter what the book, I start to fall asleep.
Glad you guys liked my hair. Honestly, it was one of the few times I left the house without my wig. I'm getting ready to ditch it for good, but I still feel like I don't have enough to make a normal short hairdo. Probably a few more weeks. I do think I am going to keep it short though. I like it.
Blackjack, I didn't get to ask you more about your love of boating and waverunners. Where do you go? Hopefully, not in that pond of yours. Anyway, we have a lakehome in MI, so I also spend most of my summer on the boat and waverunner. Last summer sucked big time as I felt like crap most of it, but I still went out on our boat and enjoyed as best as I could. I'm really looking forward to this summer. And if anyone wants to make a drive, I would love to have you guys come for a ride!
Laura - by now you are probably soaking up the sun! Have a fabulous time! You deserve it.
Blackjack, did you get her a new room in Vegas yet? Laura, seriously, I'm pretty laid back and not much bothers me, but walking through that place gave me the heeby jeebies - it was soooo dirty and run down. Looks fine from the outside, but once you step inside...
Welcome Irina. Sorry you are here, but it's a great group!!
Hope you are doing ok, Sabrina. I know you probably feel like do-do this weekend.
Julie, how are you doing? Have you had your last AC yet?
Have a great weekend girls. I have a house that looks like a war zone so I need to start cleaning.

Good morning:
It sounds like I missed a great timel, and I am glad you had so much fun with each other. Wendy, I like your head on your body. Your head looks great and I am very sure your body is wonderful.
I also love the Victoria Secret post. I received a $100 gift certificate from my husband after my surgery and we went to Northbrook Court to collect. The poor dear thought I would leave with a bushel basket full of lingerie. We all know their prices. I left with a few bras that work well on a woman who's left breast is now shaped like a football! They fit quite nicely in one of those very small bags we carry our lunches in!
Nancy (512) I took some time to read your past posts and you have had a very rocky time for awhile now. I am certain you are feeling discouragement. Are you near the end of your treatments? I remember reading about the nail condition, and that would scare anyone! Where do you live? Do you have a support system in place? Can I do anything to make it easier?
Ladies, I have been reading some posts on other threads and I see that some women have insurance plans that do not cover their meds. I was shocked to read what some have to pay for one pill. I am wondering if Linda didn't touch on a point when she spoke of the politics of pharmacuticals. How can a pill cost over $300?????? I have leftover pills I never needed (Thank g-d). Have any of you heard of a place where we can bring our leftover meds so women can get them for free? I know that sharing meds is a no-no, yet if you are throwing up and cannot buy the freakin' pill, then why not? I think it is illegal to mail them to someone, yet don't they do it when you get pills from ireland or Canada. Let me know if you know of a "med bank" of sorts.
Have a good day,
Susan0 -
OOOPS, final thoughts...
Kater, Happy Biirthday! It sounds like yoou had a splendid birthday.
Ohhhhh, Jackie, I meant to tell you that I have been spending time thinking about your pm message to me. Thank you for doing that. You seem like such a calm lady. I love calm! I will get back to you and share with you some of my thoughts.
Susan0 -
Rita
Sorry I didn't get back to you sooner. I've been in Springfield w/my mom. She had a total hip replacement yesterday. She's doing fine.
And about where I'm from-you're getting warm.

Chiefette,
Glad your Mom is doing well! I have it! (Can you see that your where-abouts has been driving me crazy???? I'm the queen of small towns! LOL) It was more in the Lewistown area.......down around Browning. This town where you live is about the size of the one that I was raised in on the Rock River and we were good ol' river rats and loved it. I still miss the water. Since I'm not sure that you really want this revealed, does your town's name have 4 letters in its name? If so, you just jump right on this thread, tell us a little bit about yourself, and get acquainted. They don't come any more "small town" than me! We'd love to hear more about you. Actually, we are not that far away from each other. I actually drove from Bloomington to Lewistown to finish out my last teaching year there so I'd have the years I needed for retirement. Hey, there's some darn good mushrooming areas around you......if I am right!!!
Susan...I know a gal who has no insurance and her Arimidex costs her about $250 per month. That's about like having another car payment. It's unreal!
Catch you all later. Can't wait to hear from you Chiefette!
Rita
