Vanmama...Wow! Half way done sounds pretty good! I know how tired you get of the treatments. It seems that you just get to feeling like yourself again and wham! Time for another round. Just try to go one treatment at a time and think about how you are on the downhill slide right now. Will you have to do radiation when you finish chemo or did the double mastectomy take care of that?

Julie, we will help you get through this. We'll be your cheerleaders and go with you in your pocket when you have treatments, etc. Hopefully all the research will find something new and different in the very near future. Don't shut the door on hope! New methods are being discovered and used every day. The Chicago area is very progressive and has some very good oncologists who are on the cutting edge.

I think I will decline radiation. My surgeon said he removed the cancer and he agreed with no radiation. The chemo is to "mop up" any rogue cell that might have gotten away. There wouldn't really be an exact spot to radiate, anyway.

I am comfortable with my decision

Vanmama I was in a gray area for radiation. My breast surgeon assumed I would get it due to the size of my tumor. My radiation oncologist was the one to make that decision. She gave me a pass. I didn't have any lymph nodes though.

Each day is a lifetime in miniature.  To awaken each morning is to be born again,
to fall asleep at night is to die to the day.  In between waking and sleeping are
the golden hours of the day.  What we cannot do for a lifetime
we can do for a daytime.
"Anyone," wrote Robert Louis Stevenson, "can live sweetly, patiently,
lovingly, purely, till the sun goes down."  Anyone can hold their temper
for a day and guard the words they speak.  Anyone can carry
their burden heroically for one day.  Anyone can strive
to be happy for a day and to spread happiness around.
Anyone can radiate love for a day.  Anyone can rise
above fear for a day and meet each new situation with courage.
Anyone can be kind and thoughtful and considerate for a day.
Anyone can endeavor to learn something new each day
     and mark some growth. . . .
The supreme art of living is to strive to live each day well. . . .
Live a day at a time and remember that tomorrow is another today.

vanmama....only you can make the radiation decision. Sometimes it just comes down to "going with your gut." You will make the right decision for you! :-)

Thanks, Rita. I'm comfortable with my decision.

What exactly would you radiate if the breast tissue was all removed? I trust Dr. Grieco and have had discussions with him about it. He agrees with me.

Whatever our individual troubles and challenges may be, it's important
to pause every now and then to appreciate all that we have, on every level.
We need to literally "count our blessings," give thanks for them, allow
ourselves to enjoy them, and relish the experience of prosperity we already have.

Just a reminder here ( though I don't think I've mentioned it here before ) that starting tomorrow I will be away at work for about four days.  If I get a window of opportunity  I'll rush home and hunt up a quote or two, but as of now I have to assume that I'll be MIA for my work days.  This does not happen too often -- but it the only job I've ever had where I get paid the same amt. to sleep 8 or so hours, as I do for the hours I'm up doing things --- none of which are difficult.

We are also starting about a week ( from the sound of it ) of rain. Hmmm, that will add a little interest.  One of my employer's dogs just doesn't at all like rainstorms.  I may be walking around carrying a little doggie with me a lot of the time.

Vanmama--did you talk with Dr. Migas or Dr. Woodhouse also?  My surgeon (Dr. Naour) told me beforehand that if I did a mastectomy, I could skip radiation and I think dr. migas and woodhouse agreed.  I know I talked with all three of them before my surgery even.  My nodes were totally clean, and opted for lumpectomy, so I did the rads.  My experience was i.t was not difficult or uncomfortable except for the last 3 treatments but like you said, what is there to radiate, unless it was near the chest wall?

Dr. Migas deferred to Dr. Woodhouse who seemed to think it was as good idea several months ago. I just talked to Dr. Grieco again today (and he FINALLY released me from his care after 20 weeks!) and he again said the cancer and all breast tissue was removed, and he agreed that it was not needed.

If and when it comes up again, I'll discus it again with Dr. Migas.

Oh, and the cancer was deep but not near the chest wall, but we're doing chemo to kill anything that might have gotten away...

Thanks for everyone's input. Much appreciated...

Just because you aren't on your knees in church or sitting still in a cramped position doesn't mean you can't be talking to God.    Just because both you and God are busy doesn't mean you can't  be in touch.  Such times are the sacred part of the secret life.  Such times keep my soul sane.

Got home late this afternoon and after a couple of hours of cleaning and laundry ( Dh is not real good at some of this ) I was able to sit down here and look for a quote.  Over a thousand emails while I was gone.  I'm going to be busy tomorrow.

Sure missed all of you and REALLY missed getting to find you all a quote for those days.  After I put in a quote I always have the feeling I've just had the most wonderful conversation with you all of you.  Continues to make all of my days have such a grand start to them.

See you tomorrow for another quote.

    Blessings,

    Jackie

The key to happiness is inner peace.
The greatest obstacles to inner peace are disturbing emotions
such as anger, attachment, fear and suspicion,
while love and compassion and a sense of universal responsibility
are the sources of peace and happiness.

I believe one of our souls' major purposes is to know, love, and express our authentic selves.  To live the life and be the person we were created to be.  However, our true selves only emerge when it's safe to do so.  Self-condemnation, shame, and guilt send your true nature into hiding.  It's only in the safety of gentle curiosity, encouragement, and self-love that your soul can bloom as it was created to do.

An oldie' but a goodie'.  It is going to be a really nice day here --- so when I spied the quote it just said -- " I'm right ".  It will finally warm up a bit for us and I'm sure glad.  Has been on the cool side since our rains began and we will thank goodness have a couple of dry days in-between the rain storms which will come again.  So far, a very strange Spring ----  rains mainly starting in May rather than our usual wet April.  Now we are carrying over the pattern into June.  What will global warming bring next.

I hope you all have a wonderful Wednesday.

    Blessings

I think that maybe summer has finally arrived. I hesitate to speak too loudly though with all the rain that we've been getting! Hope everyone in treatment is doing well.

    Karen,

Congratulations on completing your chemotherapy! I had radiation following chemo as well. Before you know it this will all be behind you. Hoping you have an uneventful course of rads.

I second Diana ----  always wonderful to get chemo done.  Rads are I think for many , just boring, but when they are done you feel a bit odd --- you are no longer concentrating heavily on "fighting" the beast and feel as though there is maybe not quite enough happening to MAKE sure you are getting well totally.  You will wind down from that and move on and learn it is all ok.

Just being generous with the moisture routine you are given for your rads and great hopes that you will come though fine.

    Blessings,

    Jackie
