Karen, congrats on finishing chemo.  I am impressed at your energy. it is good to stay as busy as you can without wearing yourself out---sounds like you have found a balance.  There is something very healing about working outside in the midst of nature.  So many of my cancer connections are involved with gardening, hiking, being in the woods, on the lake, etc.

Had my Day 8 visit with my MO today. Counts are still low so he put me off work until Monday. I'm relieved. I was beginning to feel lightheaded sometimes during the day and completely exhausted by the time I got home each day.

Hoping it will help me get those white blood cells going so I can feel better.

Vanmama--fingers crossed your counts rise.  I am visualizing them multiplying like rabbits as you rest......

Vanmama...Your body was trying to tell you that you needed to relax. That is sometimes just so hard to do. I am sending peaceful vibes to you and lots of hope that your count rise!

Karen....good to hear from you. NO MORE CHEMO! Yea! After chemo, I thought the rads were pretty easy. I hope you do as well with them as I did. Although I am not the best with flowers, I love to dig in the dirt. I had some very pretty iris this year and of course the peonies are "fail proof!" Every year I just keep trying and every year I learn a little bit more. Now Redhead is a master gardener. I need to drag her out to my house and have her tell me what I need to do! :-) Keep i touch, Karen as you go through your rads!

Hi Diana! Is all going well with you now?

Hi IL ladies! I always follow this board, but don't post too much although I feel very connected to you and your stories. :) I'm posting today to see if anyone knows of someone in the Chicago area who is thinking about or planning to use the Cold Caps during chemo. We have a full set of supplies that are ready to be passed on to the next capper. Maria (mdg) was kind enough to start me off with what she had, and after I added my supplies, we've been able to pass them on to 3 other cappers who all used them to save their hair during chemo. I know it's not a process that is not for everyone, so finding the next person isn't always easy - just checking in to see if you may know of someone, please PM me. thanks and have a fantastic weekend! The voice of wisdom is inherent within us and willing to guide us when we stop to listen.  Of course, there are times when we feel we've been still as stone, and the still, small voice is still too quiet to hear.  When this happens, the challenge is to practice quieting your mind anyway.  Stopping and asking, quieting and listening, trusting and waiting.  Waiting is difficult but worth the effort because a quiet, uncluttered mind is a natural antenna for whispers of wisdom from within.  -Sue Patton Thoele

Have my fingers, toes, legs and eyes crossed that American Pharoah  can win this last race today.  Hasn't been a winner since the year I graduated from college....... We need a triple crown today, and a safe race for everyone.

Yes I didi---I was jumping up and down and screaming at the TV.  You would have thought I had a wager on it.  I should have has I picked the 3 in the right order.....Dang.

Got water in me basement last night.  First time in nearly 20 years.  Sump pump couldn't keep up with the water table.  When I walk further out in my yard, it sounds like I am squishing down on a wet sponge.

Yep, Redhead....you should have made a trip to the Off Track Betting! The only problem was that none of the top three horses paid very much because they had such good odds. Still, every little bit helps!

We live on the banks of Kickapoo Creek and the water came over the banks and was hitting our deck. Our badk yard looked like a lake and I was glad to see it stop raining as I was worried about it coming over the deck and into my dining room. It is back in its banks now and it's amazing how quickly the yard started to dry up today. I have some debris that I need to get picked up though.

Hope everyone is having a good day!

Magic is a sudden opening of the mind to the wonder of existence.
     It is a sense that there is much more to life than we usually recognize;
that we do not have to be confined by the limited views that our family,
our society, or our own habitual thoughts impose on us; that life
contains many dimensions, depths, textures, and meanings extending
far beyond our familiar beliefs and concepts.

Good morning.  Wow Rita -- I think I would have been "sweating" it just a bit with your rising creek.  We don't worry much where we are.  All the water that comes down  is directed to our lake behind us.  They have gates at the spill-way --- so if too much gets into the lake they open the gates and let it out.  For the most part, people who live at the lake are safer than much of anywhere else as there is some control here about directing the water --- and not much of any elsewhere else.  The city was I think never set up that well for drainage of a lot of water.  All the houses in town that have basements have sump pumps.  We did end up though with a lot of water in our yard too.  We have two big drainage ravines on either side of us which make for a good feeling of safety.

Stayed so nice in our house yesterday --- but I do think we will get a lot of humidity today.  Dh said he would get the filter system ready in case we have to turn on the a/c.  I was/have been hoping to avoid the need until July.  Well, if we do need to turn it on maybe we won't have to leave it on.

    Blessings

    Jackie

Well I broke down and put on the air when I got home from golfing this afternoon. The house was really steamy and I must admit that the cool air is beginning to feel pretty good.

We were ok today, but the heat came quickly.  We have enough fans in the house to move the air around ok and so just have to deal with humidity for a few hours.  Coolness ( enough anyway ) takes over more and more as the sun shifts on its way to setting.  We are cool again, but would not be if the fans did not run.  I worked again this afternoon and they have had the air on there for awhile.  Keep it at 73 inside which is a bit too cool for me.  We have ours at 78 or 80 when we do put it on.  It was 80 in here when I went to work -- so we were ok.

Hoping we go back to slightly less humidity ( though it will rain again on the week-end ) so we will re-pick up humidity -- ick.

    Jackie

Today looks like a good day to get some work done in the yard. I need to get out my trusy weed-eater and trim and attack a few more weeds in my flower garden. Then later this afternoon we are headed to Tremont to the annual Turkey Festival. Mmmmm...great turkey sandwiches and crafts!

Enjoy the day because it looks like more rain is coming in tomorrow!

Weeds, weeds, and more weeds --- and they keep returning.  Sigh !!!!  Better than shoveling snow, though.  We finally caved and turned our a/c on.  Not so much for the heat as we set it at 78 or 80 anyway --- but the humidity -- even with all our shade just started to seem so oppressive.  We still run some fans along with the a/c.  I'll rest better likely as well.  Anyway, Rita, our rain is due to begin any time --- and pretty much keep up for most if not all of the following week.  Yikes -- so much rain.  I think most of the farmers got their crops in but massive amts. of rain are not needed now and could be harmful.  Oh well --- likely why we never got into farming ourselves.

Stopped in at the local thrift store ( Salvation Army ) and made some good buys.  I was not looking for anything ( which is a good way to find things ) but found 3 clear glass heavy mixing bowls ( graduated sizes ) from Pyrex which I paid only a $1.00 for the set.  Then some smaller Pyrex dishes which likewise ( 4 ) only a $1.00 for that set and then a Tupperware canister with big pour spout for cereal etc. which was just $1.00 ----  so I soaked them in Lysol water and they now have regular soapy water in them and soon they will be at home in my cabinet next to several other just passing through the thrift store for no real good reason at all, items.  I either have to stop now --- or box up some of my "other" stuff to make enough room.

I have found though --- that the sizes I run into are just right for one or two and I find that I almost always use then in place of the larger sizes  that once were the order of the day, so money spent for those things is never wasted.  They are in and out of my cupboard on a rather constant basis.

Our sun is hiding now part of the time as I think the clouds are rolling in and there is something of a breeze outside.....may even have heard a bit of thunder way, way off in the distance.  It is going to be a lazy afternoon here --- likely spent in front of the t.v. with HGTV which we always enjoy.  Just amazes me what some of them can do when they take an old, way outdated property and bring it back to life.  The decorating always seems rather perfect, but then if you are a design decorator it should be.  Wish they could come do their magic on my house.........

    See you all later.

    Jackie

Jackie you made me smile with your thrift store acquisitions.  I have a collection of nordicware baking pans that I obtained from various church rummage sales. that stuff costs a fortune new and I don't think I paid more than 3.00 for any of it.

And at our local book sale to benefit others, I found the nordicware cookbook for 1.50......(and it had pictures of the pans, and there is one I d on't have that I now am on the prowl for......)
