A child's kiss
Set on thy sighing lips shall make thee glad;
A poor man served by thee shall make thee rich;
A sick man helped by thee shall make thee strong;
Thou shalt be served thyself by every sense
Of service which thou renderest.

When you ignore your soul's destiny, when you get caught up in
your own self-interests and forget to care for others, you will not
feel "right." Instead, you will feel empty and unfulfilled. During
these times, you are neglecting your soul--you are depriving it of nourishment. . . . seek something outside your nine-to-five job
as an additional source of fulfillment and as a way to feel the joy
of helping others. You can do any number of things to fulfill this goal--volunteer at a community hotline, coach a Little League
team, donate your time to a public school, visit the sick.
Whatever you choose, you will gain a sense that you are
giving of yourself, that you are sharing yourself with
the world, that you are fulfilling the destiny of your soul.
Rabbi Harold Kushner0 -
Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate.
Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.
It is our Light, not our Darkness, that most frightens us.
We ask ourselves, who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented,
fabulous? Actually, who are you NOT to be?
You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world.
There is nothing enlightening about shrinking so that other
people won't feel unsure around you.
We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us.
It is not just in some of us; it is in everyone.
As we let our own Light shine, we unconsciously give
other people permission to do the same.
As we are liberated from our own fear,
our presence automatically liberates others.

who used it in his 1994 inaugural address)0 -
Hi Navy Mom.....So good to see a post from you! Have you spent anytime in Florida this winter?
Donna.....YEA!!!!!! So glad to hear that the nodules were not malignant. Now you can take a big deep breath and go on having fun with those lovely little dogs and your family in beautiful Arizona! I love your Facebook posts and the pictures! You are looking SO good!!!
Our time here is winding down. We have done lots of fun and relaxing things and have played many rounds of winter golf. I am really ready to head home, though I miss my Illinois friends and activities and love springtime in Illinois when all those spring flowers begin pushing through the ground.
We just had a thunderstorm pass through but the sun is out now so I'm headed to the lanai to sit around the pool. I have a good book I can read until it is time to cook dinner. We have a 5 day cooler and brought down several Illinois steaks so that's what we're having tonight Corn-fed beef from our area is so much better than the grass-fed beef we buy down here. We are spoiled!
Enjoy your weekend!

I think we may have lost some of our gals because this topic has been moved, logically, to the "Member Matchup & Local Support Groups" forum. If some had this in "Favorites" and under the original forum, they may no longer see it.

Getting some dental work lately and the State of Illinois has not paid employees' dental insurance provider since June. We now have to pay out of pocket and get in line with everyone else for reimbursal. I needed the work done earlier than later and it was only going to get worse and cost me more later.

I'm still here but busy. Great to see you all pop up.

To be glad of life, because it gives you the chance to love and to
work and to play and to look up to the stars; to be satisfied with
your possessions, but not contented with yourself until you have
made the best of them; to despise nothing in the world except
falsehood and meanness, and to fear nothing except cowardice; to
be governed by your admirations rather than by your disgusts; to
covet nothing that is your neighbors' except their kindness of heart
and gentleness of manners; to think seldom of your enemies, often
of your friends and every day of Christ; and to spend as much time
as you can with body and spirit, in God's out-of-doors--these
are the little guideposts on the footpath of peace.Henry van Dyke

Rita, Yes, I spent several weeks in Florida. Fort Myers Beach in particular. But I'm home now and getting ready to go see my Sweet Navyson. He has re-enlisted for another 4 years and his new orders have taken him and his little family all the way to Whidbey Island, Washington (state).
What a treat to see you checking in Donna. So happy things are going well in Arizona.
Waving hello to EVERYONE!!! Did you gals ever get your soup exchange going?

When we're helping other people, we're nourishing our soul.
Depression or unhappiness means we've got the wrong goal.
We have forgotten that peace of mind is our only goal.
By concentrating on helping another person, we renew contact
with our soul and with God. We can feel peaceful again. . . .
Peace of mind has nothing to do with the external world;
it has only to do with our connection with God. Love really is
the answer. We're here only to teach love. When we're doing that,
our souls are singing and dancing. When we remind ourselves
that we are spiritual beings, that life and love are the flame eternal,
that's when our soul is nourished.

Hey Navymom...Now you have a new place to visit and explore. I bet that island in Washington is very pretty!
Doxie, I think you may be right about losing some of the gals because of the new way the thread is listed. I have to admit that I had some problems finding it at first. I kept looking for the title "Help Me Make it Through Treatments" and finally found it by searching for Jackie, who I know posts everyday. Now I have it marked as one of my favorites.
Today I went shopping for my youngest grandson's birthday, which is falling on Easter Sunday this year. He will be 7. He wanted some of those Itty Bitty stuffd animals that are sold at the Hallmark Card Store. We have one here on the Cape but they didn't have the ones he asked for. Instead of going clear over to Fort Myers, I went ahead and selected some others that I think he will like. I can pick up the ones he requested another time. Usually I don't get to help him celebrate his birthday so this will be a real treat for Grandma!
Now, I'm tired so I'm going to get ready to watch "The Voice."

A thin line separates laughter and pain, comedy and tragedy, humor and hurt. Our lives constantly walk that line. When we slip off on one side or the other, we're taken by surprise. But who said there wouldn't be surprises? Knowing God just means that all the rules will be fair; at the end of our life drama, we'll see that. We never know how things will turn out, but if we know with certainty they will make sense regardless of how they turn out, we're on to something. -Barbara Johnson

Whether you know it or not, one of the most important relationships in
your life is with your Soul. Will you be kind and loving to your Soul,
or will you be harsh and difficult? Many of us unknowingly damage
our Souls with our negative attitudes and actions or by simple neglect.
By making the relationship with your Soul an important part of your
life, however, by honoring it in your daily routine, you give your life
greater meaning and substance. Use your experiences--all of
them--as opportunities to nourish your Soul!Elisabeth Kuebler-Ross

It's not the length but the quality of life that matters to me.
It has always been important to me to write one sentence at a time,
to live every day as if it were my last and judge it in those terms,
often badly, not because it lacked grand gesture or grand passion
but because it failed in the daily virtues of self-discipline,
kindness, and laughter. It is love, very ordinary, human love,
and not fear, which is the good teacher and the wisest judge.
Jane Rule0 -
Let every creature have your love. Love, with its fruits of
meekness, patience, and humility, is all that we can wish for
ourselves and our fellow creatures. For this is to live in God,
united with him, both for time and eternity. To desire to
communicate good to everyone, in the degree that we can and
to which each person is capable of receiving from us, is
a divine temper, for thus God stands unchangeably
disposed towards the whole creation.

Look to this day!
For it is life, the very life of life.
In its brief course
Lie all the truths and realities of your existence:
The bliss of growth
The glory of action
The splendor of achievement,
For yesterday is but a dream
And tomorrow is only a vision,
But today well lived makes every yesterday
a dream of happiness
And tomorrow a vision of hope.
Look well, therefore, to this day!
Such is the salutation of the dawn.

What a nice day for Easter. That wasn't the forecast last week. Those of you with small children, enjoy.

You become spiritually rich when you discover the riches of the kingdom within: when you have a consciousness of the oneness of all life; when you experience kinship with nature; when you are open to the buoyant spiritual lift of being in tune with the Infinite; when you know the power of meditation and prayer. -Wilferd A. Peterson

The posture we take while performing our tasks today,
and the attitude we project toward those who cross our
path, will emphatically influence what the day brings.
No one else can decide for any of us what we'll feel or
think about the day. We have the power to be as
content or as discontent as we make up our minds to be.

So glad to hear that you had great weather for Easter in Illinois. I hope all of you enjoyed the holiday!
I will be heading back north on Thursday. We have lots of the big things packed. Tomorrow we are going to play one more round of golf before packing up the rest. Hopefully we will have good weather for driving on Thursday and Friday!

I remember the morning that I first asked the meaning of the
word "love. . . ."
Miss Sullivan put her arm gently round me and spelled into
my hand, "I love Helen."
"What is love?" I asked. . . .
"Love is something like the clouds that were in the sky before
the sun came out," she replied. . . . "You cannot touch the clouds,
you know; but you feel the rain and know how glad the flowers
and the thirsty earth are to have it after a hot day. You cannot
touch love either; but you feel the sweetness that it pours into
everything. Without love you would not be happy or want to play."
The beautiful truth burst upon my mind--I felt that these were
invisible lines stretched between my spirit and the spirits of others.

Welcome back to IL Rita...it is indeed getting very green here and lots of blooms everywhere-very nice after a long winter.
Hello to all you ladies, hope you have been well. I couldn't find this thread either until I stumbled upon it today. I don't post often, but read nearly everyday. Getting used to being a full time empty nester, although my dd was away at school, she still came home over breaks and summer, but in February moved to Madison, WI for a new job and it is strange to walk past her empty bedroom. I am happy for her and a little scared about her living on her own for the first time, but she seems to be handling most things well. I am waiting on an appointment for CT scan of head, chest, abdomen & pelvis. Been having some odd eye issues and daily headaches, and my onc wants to check the bone mets to see if they are staying stable. I am really struggling with the side effects of the AI...have tried all of them and tamox and just feel unwell all the time. No other alternative except chemo again, which I'm not willing to do at this point, saving that for last resort if needed. Also found out I have scarring in my lung from radiation which is causing my shortness of breath with any exertion...BC is the gift that just keeps on giving.... Don't get me wrong I am grateful to be here and for the treatments available to lengthen our lives and let us live with BC, but long for the old days when I felt normal (relatively speaking that is)
.I think of you all often, but my chemo brain won't let me remember the details about everyone... Anyway wishing you all stress free and pain free days!
Mimi

If you want to turn your life around, try thankfulness. It will change your life mightily.

The best way I have found to follow my true desires is to pay attention to my intuitive sense. We all have great wisdom within us, a part of us that knows exactly what we need at every moment. We are born with this intuitive sense, but most of us are quickly taught to distrust and ignore it. We have to relearn something that should come naturally. Fortunately, it's not too difficult; it just takes some practice. -Shakti Gawain
