Hi all -
Just checking in to let you guys know I am fine. Too many posts to catch up on so hopefully everyone is ok.
Surgery went well and they actually left me alone for the most part during the night. Only came in a couple of times. I had a recurring fever that didn't break until 10 pm last night. Ever since then I have felt tons better. One of the first things I did was touch my new boob and --- it was soft! Yea - I was so sick of that rock hard expander. Not in too much pain, just feel a little weak now. So, just resting up.
Only read about 5 pages of Duma Key, Wendy because that fever just did me in and while the Vicodin helped with that, it put me to sleep. So, I've basically been a couch potato.
Got to get back to the couch - hope everyone is well!

Hey everyone,
Sabrina is almost back...Feeling sooo much better. Still having some numbness in the feet and some nerve twitches ever now and again. But I'm doing just fine. Spent some time with a friend Friday and Saturday going to a Women's Conference in Rockford. It was really great. Nothing like some good praise & worship to uplift the soul and spirit. The theme of the conference was (Stand). An on time word. All that I have been through some things you guys wouldn't even want to know about. Yet I am still (Standing)...2007 was the year from H.E. double hockey sticks!!! God is Good... There were women there of all races but we were all there with one purpose to claim our lifes back and to stand for our families and for this world. So if you guys were feeling a little lighter this morning know that a prayer was sent up for you. You guys are still Standing. Through the good, the bad, and the down right ugly.
Speaking of ugly (lol) thanks for the compliments on my picture. Just figured out how to put it in. That was before chemo hit. Still have the beautiful smile though. That goes along with my beautiful spirit.
Connie I am so glad you are doing well. Keep on keepin on...
Have a blessed day and night.
Sabrina

Happy Almost St. Patrick's Easter! If you think that sounds strange, you should see my house with the combos of the 2 decorations! Looks like another gloomy day, chilly and cold but no snow so I'll take it.
Sabrina...sounds like your conference did you a world of good, and us too! Can you slip down from Rockford and come to lunch on Friday? Sure would love to meet you. And I am so glad that the chemo monster has loosened his hold on you.
Connie....glad you are back home, resting. Sorry you will have to miss lunch on Friday but it's probably for the better. You know us...we would all want to be poking your boob but then it would be all black and blue and your surgeon would ask why and you would have to tell him about us and then the men in the little white coats would come and get us....
Blackjack...how's your family feeling? How's your knee? Should be mucho better by now....
Susan...sending extra hugs your way.
Nicki...c'mon!!! Where are you? Hope to meet you on Friday....
Hope everybody else is good today...this is short as DH picked up that NASTY stomach flu bug that has been going around his school. I won't go into details, suffice it to say I have been up and down most of the night, cleaning bathrooms and doing laundry. And spraying lysol everywhere. Sure hope I don't get it.

Good Morning! Im here, just getting over another bad cold! I knew it would happen when my office mate came into work really sick - wish she would have left her germs at home.
St. Patricks Day is a biggun for us, since DH is an Irish entertainer. I missed the party Saturday and Sunday. But Im feeling better and will be celebrating at the pub my DH is playing at tomorrow.
Easter and St. Patricks Day together? Has me all confused.
Im gonna try to stop by on Friday and have a drink with ya all. Right now - Im going back to bed.

I'm checking in this morning. Sorta busy yesterday....doing all the running I needed to get caught up from the week. Sorry to hear that Dh has the dreaded flu Wendy. That has got to be miserable from the sound of things. He's lucky he has you for his nurse.....you make a good one.
Sun here though maybe a tad cooler than it's been. As long as the sun is out I know I can manage. I'm feeling lazy today so who knows what I won't do.
Glad you are close to being mended Sabrina.
Nicki...sorry about the cold. Adults just seem to find it hard to stay home when they are sick----even though it would be best for all. I hope you are able to relax and rest with a good book or something and get back together real soon.
Well, I need to move and get cleaned up for the day....whatever I do or don't do.
Hope ya'll have a wonderful Sunday.

My husband saw this in the trib:
"New research adds evidence that several drugs can help prevent the recurrence of BC years after treatment.
Currently, women whose tumors wre fueled by the hormone estrogen can take the drugs tamoxifen to reduce their risk of recurrence. But tamoxifen helps for only five years.
Five years ago, researchers showed that women with early-stage breast cancer who took another drug, known as aromatase inhibitor, aftre tamoxifen werre nearly hasl as likely to suffer a relapse.
In the new research published online Monday by the Journal of Clinical Oncology, researchers found that women who took aromastase inhibitor letrozole had the risk of a recurrence cut by 63% compared to those who did not take it, even years after stopping tamoxifen.
Another study found that a different aromastase inhibitor exemestane. also was effective at reducing the recurrence risk."
So, my question is what is arimidex? I know it is an aromastase inhibitor, but what else..exemestane or letrozole?

Hi guys.....
Susan......arimidex=anastrozole, femara=letrozole, aromisin=exemethane. I know that's right, just probably didn't spell them correctly!!!!!
Nicki....hope you are feeling mucho better by tomorrow and can celebrate with DH...have a green beer for me.
Well...DH's 24 hour stomach flu is now 20 minutes late leaving and we're both pretty tired of him. Sure hope I don't get it next but I have been bathing in clorox and using lysol as my cologne. And wearing a head-to-toe garbage bag.
Hope everybody else is enjoying the sun!

Good evening ladies...Hope every one is doing well...Question? what do you do about swimming and having a breast prosthesis? My family and I are going to Wisconsin Dells for the weekend. So sorry I won't be able to make lunch. I know you guys are going to have a great time. I have been trying to talk them out of it I want to wait till the weather gets better. But they just want to get away from freeport for a while.

Sabrina - I have been to Mexico 4x since my double Mast...no problem with the proths. Swam everyday...refresh my memory...did you have a single Mast or double? I will help you with this. Also...there's a forum here for us girls who have chosen to NOT have reconstruction. Let me know. Don't worry about it...you will be able to swim like a dolphin! lol

Hi all,
Just checking in before I close up my computer for the night. Nice day but I lazed a whole lot. Went out and fed the feral cats this afternoon. Took Baby Boss with me. He whimpered all the way...always wants in the car, but guess he was so surprised when he finally got to....he didn't know how to relax and enjoy.
Stopped at the Manor on the way home...Maggie has never seen
" The Boss " so I told her yesterday I'd bring him along to meet her. She fell in love.
Dh has a new camera.....hopefully, I'll be able to get him to take a couple of pics to send to Wendy of the sweet little guy.
Busy day tomorrow and on thru Thursday but I'll have some time to catch up ( I'll need it after chemo on Wednesday ) after Thursday. I'm looking forward to that already. I never seem to get enough out of my sleep---even though I sleep well. I stay tired it seems all the time now...oh well. This too will pass--eventually.
Talk to ya'll tomorrow.

Hi Ladies,
I know I've been neglectful but I think I'm just sick of breast cancer. I'm still not scheduled for surgery. I went to see a plastic surgeon last week and hated him. I felt like I should have been having my lips pumped or my butt lipo'd. I called the surgeon who's on vacation and her nurse said I had better find a plastic guy so I can have my surgery, I called my last one who I loved, he called me back and recommended a guy I'll see on Monday. Well all this waiting and changing doctors has me crazy. My tumor went from 1,8 cm to 2.8 cm.
I'm sorry I havn't posted but when I get nervous I just can't sit still to read or post and I hate always being a crabby ass.
Can I come to lunch? I'd love to see all of you again.
Thank you all for all your thoughts, and hugs. Hopefully by Friday I'll have my head on straight on again.
Love you all
Leesa

Leesa,
Glad to see you posting but sorry about your dr. troubles. Hugs.
Make sure someone on the thread knows some contact information about you-is that a Rita thing?- so that the group can contact you when you seem to drop out for awhile.
I am glad you are going to meet the ladies for lunch. I was afraid that after last time you were going to break up after letting them feel your boobies!
I am overseas just north of Jerusalem. Will have a special Easter here with the boys in the orphanage, but we celebrate with the Eastern Calendar in April, not in March. (The difference has something to do with lunar cycles during the year and was a big difference between the Eastern and Western churches years ago).
Looking forward to coming back next summer.

Leesa
we would LOVE to have you come,
time to update address and time..someone who knows where that is. 8-)

LEESA.........of course you can come on Friday...you get your crabby a** to Maggiano's...we are meeting at 10:30 am (OK...so it is 11:30, but you told us you always run late!!!!!). And Sharon is right....PLEASE PM your stuff to LauraGTO so she can add you to our little list. I did have your phone # but I put it in my cell phone wrong and I had already deleted the PM. I hope you find a PS you Love, Love, Love today!
Sharon....so glad you posted...I have actually started watching the national news every night (DH is SHOCKED by this), looking for news from your region. Might you be willing to also join LauraGTO's Illinois ladies list? We NEVER give out info, and if you don't want to do this, this is fine. But I would love to write the occasional letter to you...I hate writing letters, but sending them to remote places I think is such fun! But totally up to you! Please stay safe.
Sabrina....I knew Laura could help you out with the swimming dilemma (is there one or 2 m's in that word??? I need spellchecker, please Miss Moderator!!!!)...just remember a funny story about one gal using a bath scrunchy thingy and watching it float away in the pool....so I wouldn't recommend that!
Off to get moving...DH home today, feeling better but too tired and weak from no food and little sleep.
I'll check back later.....And Kater...for goodness sake...stop drinking caffeine for cripes sake!!!! You need some sleep.... Posting at 4AM!

A wet good morning to you all....well, it's raining here and will for the next couple of days....with thunderstorms, possible tornadoes so sounds like we will be getting the works.
Never fails it seems...give me a Dr.'s appt, x-ray---anything and we end up having to drive in the bad weather.
Wendy....don't you have a little bar up above where you write that has a bunch of symbols....I have one that allows me to change to Bold or Italic and at the very end of the line is an abc with a check which is a spell-checker. I'd be lost without the thing. My ability to spell, once pretty high evaporated with my stroke so I never write anything without it. Of course--sometimes you put in a wrong word which is spelled right----like car for can.....and won't notice but at least it's a word that is spelled correctly.
Sharon...nice to know you are keeping up with us from so far away.
I second everyone's thoughts....Leesa....hope the PS your former surgeon recommended turns out to be fantastic for you.
Sabrina...too bad you can't meet the girls for lunch, but you are being supportive for your family which I'm sure was supportive for you all this time. Understandable. There will be plenty of other lunch dates.
Well, I have to get ready for work. Due to factors beyond control....I'll be doing my lady behind me what I can do before today's mammo appt. and tomorrow before her knitting group show up. Should be interesting.
I'll be checking back here late....after 3 p.m.
All have a good day....and I hope a dry one. Hope you have some sun too if it's possible.

Happy St. Patti's day to everyone....Irish or not! I probably will need some of that green beer after I go to have my taxes done this morning!
Sharon...so glad to hear from you. Like Wendy, I find myself watching more of the news now! Stay safe and come back as often as possible.
Leesa...so glad to hear from you, too. Wish I was going to be at lunch on Friday so that I could give you a great big hug! I'm sure the other gals will fill in for me on that issue. Be prepared!!!
Connie...hope you're improving each day! Spring's on its way and you'll soon be back in the swing of things and have a new boob to go along with it!!!!
Laura, the bathroom is going slow. Dave had another job (with much better pay! LOL) that he had to do on Saturday and his Mom fell about a month ago. She's been in the hospital until two weeks ago when they moved her to a therapy home. We've spent the past two Sundays in Springfield with her so that Dave's sister (bless her heart) could have a little reprieve. That plays havoc with the remodeling schedule. I'm learning patience from all this, and I really like his Mom so it's nice to be able spend some time with her.
Sabrina....I'm so glad that you're feeling better. I sent you a PM.
I called the Cancer Society and asked to receive more info from our local chapter of the Reach to Recovery program. Somebody is supposed to contact me this week and we'll see what type of volunteer jobs they have available and how active that program is in this area. Maybe it will be a way that I can help.
Well, I need to hop in the shower and gather together my tax materials for my accountant. I'll be back later.
Everyone enjoy your day and don't drink TOO many green beverages!!! LOL

HI all -
I have had a some good sleep over the past couple of nights and feel really good. Still a little sore and can't wait to get this drain out, but other than that, feeling good!
I have a hair question - I know Wendy waited a long time before her first cut, but did any of you get yours cut while it was still short and growing back? I'm so glad mine is coming back, but I feel like I still look like an army recruit and wondering if a cut will help at all make my it look like an on purpose short do.
Another question - Tamoxifen - when I was in the hospital, the nurse was told to put gloves on to give me my Tamoxifen and she was asking me if I did that. No! Now I notice on my bottle it says to thoroughly wash your hands after handling. I just pop it in and go about my routine. Just wondering if anyone knows what harm that can cause. I'm thinking this one's for you Kater.
Sorry about your husband, Wendy. I hope he is feeling better soon - for both of your sakes. I know men can be awful when they are sick.
Have a great trip Sabrina! You just relax and enjoy your family. I think I asked you this - but where are you staying? We go every winter and stay at the Wilderness.
Sorry about everything going on with you Leesa. I hope you like the new ps you visit today. It's hard to not like a dr, but you do need to get into surgery. Hugs and prayers to you.
Happy St. Patty's day to everyone I missed! Pretty dreary day up here!

Hi! I have read lot but not about BC (ovarian)..but yes, gloves are mandatory...chemo is quite toxic....I misread your post and my tamoxifen bottle does not say that!!! I stared at my arimidex today and thought of you. 8-)

Connie: Hair
CONNIE HAR HAR HAR hee hee, singing again.
Yes, my hair was about an inch, well you saw it last time.
The hairdresser DID trim it...around ears and so forth...she still spent pretty much time on it so it's probably worth a haircut price..then i had it colored while i was at it (my previous attempts to rid myself of wendy's term "pencil lead" with silver hair, turned my head gold)....now i'm red head, but i think it was red when you saw it at lunch, gee, i should attempt a dif. color for fun this coming week.
Kater
I may never let it grow, it's SO MUCH EASIER THIS WAY!!!

Chemo days
Also you are supposed to flush the toilet twice for few days after chemo...to not hurt other people from your "stuff"..also i think laundry is an issue as well.

Hi All,
I hope you all have a Happy St. Patty's day. I was going to send an email invitation, but I can not find the email Laura sent me a while back....sorry.... Anyway, I have started a team for the Y-ME walk/race on Mothers Day. I know some of you said you would register as an individual, but I would LOVE it if you joined my team....THE PINK WALKERS...

Thanks Kater and Wendy. I am always about a year behind on the "new" research and what it means, but I get it eventually. So this is nothing new. I should be on arimidex and I am....until something better comes out.
The "Reach Out" program sounds like it needs you Rita. I sure could have used someone 18 months ago. I still need someone now which explains why I am here today!
Nancy, that sound fine with me. Laura, did we walk Mother's Day or was it another day. It has to be another time. My grandchild was with us and she won't be a year old in May. Straighten me out, Laura, Jan Clare, and/or Rita! WHEN DID WE WALK? Is this chemo brain or what?
Yes, the mri came out great and then a friend asked if was just my breasts or the whole body they mri'ed. I can't win. It was of course just my breasts.
I feel so much better, however, more confident and hopeful. Ladies who are tired, I am feeling less tired. That fatigue lifts eventually. I actually feel more tired on weekends and I think it may be because I sleep more. I know that is ironic. For me, it is all about having a routine. I need that routine to feel in good shape, so I actually do better during the week when I routinely make myself crawl out of bed at 6:30. Then again, I am in bed by 9:30, so what the heck!
Leesa, so good to hear from you. This is a bumpy time for you and I am not sure why you need this right now. Have fun at the lunch all the same.
Have a great day!
Susan

Hello everybody.
Called Onc, went to see Onc, he was a nice enough guy, and OK, it doesn't seem so bad, or at least, not doing it starts to seem rather stupid to me. So I will do rads, probably starting next week, depending on the schedule at Lake Forest Hospital. Yay! I get a tatoo! Thanks for the kicks, friends. I don't know why I'm having such a hard time progressing on this, but I'll just be brave like you all and dive into it.
0 -
Calypso, I'm so glad for you,
if it helps any, i figure millions have been through all this before, why not me, too.
a stupid way to rationalize not going to a naturapath till AFTER it's all over.

!!!!
Hope everyone had a great weekend!!! Busy for me trying to get stuff done so I won't have to do it when I get back!!
Sabrina: believe it or not the numbness in my feet feels better after I walk in treadmill, or when I'm moving. Feels worse when I first get up. I sewed "pocket" in my swimsuit worked fine!
Connie:hope you are enjoying being a couch potato! Wonder if your body doesn't like surgery? I get a low grade fever every time I have surgery. It goes away in a day or so. How long do you have the drain? Not soon enough I'm sure! I hated mine but had lumpectomy w/o it and that was worse!
Leesa: did your tumor really grow or was it a miss speak/ or misprint?
Blackjack: how's the knee? Go to the DR yet? And your Mom & daughter?
Wendy: How's your DH? Able to take off the "head to toe" garbage bag yet? Don't want to get sick & miss lunch!!
I had my hair trimmed aprox 6 months after my last tx. Before then had my gd help spike it. kinda fun have colored spike gel. Now plan on keeping it short easier to take care of & with the hot flashes.....
Better get busy and pack
see you soon!!

Suzanne....so glad you went! The everyday routine of the rads is a "pain," the actual procedure is painless and very short, and rads were muich easier for me than the chemo. Keep in touch now so we know how it is going for you! HUGS!
Rita
