Oh, Laura, that was a good comparison of the rwo. I get that difference for th first tme. I thought it was just all about menopausal status.
Wendy, I am feeling better. Thank you. I just was obsessed about that mri. Here I am going to a therapist to get over my fears and he tells me not to think of the mri as "casket-like" and confining as it was actually shaped more like a torpedo. Really! I just wonder how some people get their degrees.
I am excited about you women getting involved in the "Recovery" (may have that name wrong) program.I am supposing they give you lots of training. What a challenge, and yet, so many of you are so perfect for this. I am loving my Lance Armstrong Living Strong program I am in. I can attend as many events as I wish. There are speakers, workshops, yoga and tai chi classes and even a journaling class. Because I teach, I am limited on what I can participate in. I will have more flexiblity in the summer. One workshop, facilitated by a local female rabbi, is just about "How to Forgive".....and I thought that the concept of forgiving was a healthy thing to do. If I were not so stubborn, perhaps I could do so more easily.
Anyway, have fun in the drippy weather and Connie.....no more DRAINS for you!

Hey Hey...no more drains, Connie!
Karin, I hope you have landed safely and are on your way to enjoying a pleasant vacation!
Wendy, that's really weird that you're missing a page! How could that have happened?
Well, I had nothing of importance to contribute but I'm sitting in my recliner with my laptop and it's just so nice to be able to access the site away from my desk. I am taking my laptop to Kentucky so hopefully Kater has found her camera and will once again be in action at the lunch so there are pictures to post! (And I'd hate to miss anything!!LOL)
Susan, how long of a spring break do you get?
Well, I'm off to find a good Patterson book!

One more thing about the AI's...short for Aromatose Inhibitors...hence the word inhibit...suppress..just one way to remember the difference...fyi

I MADE IT!!! After circling the airport for an hour due to bad weather! Then there was the traffic!! Made it to Elgin in 1 piece! But I am beat. Rain storms in Oregon when I left bumpy ride most the way.... Forgot my pillow was tempted to take out the fake "girl" but figured others might be bothered by that !!LOL
Connie congrats on drain out!
been a long day can't wait till Friday!

karin - You are here! Awesome... too funny about the fake girl! OMG Thanks for the laugh! Get a good nights sleep...and then enjoy your stay!

Karin.....way to go. Glad you made it and that you have that wonderful lunch to look forward too. Hope in the next couple of days you can sneak a little rest in here and there.
Still raining here in so. Illinois cats and dogs....I didn't go out and feed ferals.....they won't come out in this much rain and will just hold up where it's dry.
Our weather report said---dry tomorrow. Sure hope they are right. We go to Marion for treatment ( chemo ) but will ride with my BIL and SIL. BIL needs to see if he qualifies for V.A. help. With all the un-certainty right now and so much volatility in consumer products they are starting to struggle and need to investigate options. Hope it works out for them.
I am glad you found that old spell checker Wendy. Took me a couple of tries to get used to it......but now I could not do without it.
Blackjack and Wendy----I went to a used bookstore here and got a couple of paperbacks to try out. Don't know why but I was afraid I was out of the habit of reading those "kinds" of books and wanted to be sure that they would hold my attention. In the last few years I've mainly stuck with spiritual type reading...............but I am glad to announce that I am rather spell-bound by my "trial run" books, so I am sure to find much enjoyment in what you have sent. I need to get back to you Wendy....I am bad and procrastinate lately....hopefully after this next treatment and a couple of things that will shortly get accomplished like taxes......I should be much more free to get things handled.
Since I did Barb this week....that gives me several days to recover from tx....a whole week actually since I won't have to go to work again until Thursday.
Well, I'm going to get in jammies and vegetate with some Lt. grape juice in my recliner....read a bit and listen to the rain.
Hope someone knows of a "Don't Rain" fairy for this part of Illinois so we can have a little less exciting ride down south to Marion in the morning.
All take care...........hope good fairies bring great weather to everyone tomorrow......it's time to have a few great days everywhere in Illinois.
Talk to you again soon.
Jackie

Hi All,
I have such a good time reading these post, I'm sitting on the couch and my boyfriend (boy does that sound wierd at 47 years old) keeps asking me what I'm laughing about...well he didn't get the medal thing but I was cracking up and then he didn't get the pillow thing and I was rolling (grhh men). This morning I got a call from my daughters school she passed out??? so I took her to the Dr. since this is the 3rd time it's happened in just a couple of weeks, she needs a blood test etc.. It was nice visiting with my GP dear daughter was complaining she wasn't getting any attention (LOL) so I took her shopping and to lunch it turned out to be a great day. I loved the PS but he said the surgeon won't need him if it's spread to far into the muscle just take out the implant and replace it 6 months after radiation... soon I may be back to single boobie again. I called the surgeons nurse yesterday, (voice mail) told her what the PS said, and left a message to call me back about scheduling surgery, she called back this morning (I missed her call) she babbled about an appointment or something and said she would call back late today. She didn't so I took blackjacks advice and called her back more voice mail yadee yadee... My GP said to call the onco tomorrow and complain, I think I will.
I can't wait for our lunch.
Love
Leesa

Good morning! I have a few minutes before I hit the bowling alley for the last morning of bowling for this season! I'm sure that next week I'll have withdrawal symptoms unless the sun comes out and I can drive the cart down the lane to the golf course.
Hope it's clear in southern Illinois, Jackie so that you have a good trip. Unfortunately it's still pretty cloudy here right now, but the sun is supposed to shine. I'll be thinking about you today!
Leesa, I relate to the boyfriend title. Try it out at age 60! LOL It's a real dilemma when trying to make an introduction. LOL No matter what we call them, it's nice to have them around! Well....most of the time, I guess! :-)
Glad you've touched down in Illinois, Karin! Have fun while you are back!
Well...gotta get moving here! Everyone have a good day. How are you doing, JanClare???

I forgot to say thanks for the advice on hair and tamox.
I guess since I don't have any crippling side effects from the Tamox., I never thought about how toxic that little pill is. So, I will be doing a good hand washing from now on. Thanks!
I will probably venture out for that hair gel, Wendy. My hair is coming back so unruly (not that it wasn't before), but I now feel like I have a curly mohawk and that it's uneven. But, do I dare cut off any of my lovely hair that I have been missing so much? I think I'll start with the gel and go from there. I would really like to get rid of this wig!
Gald you made it safe and sound, Karin. Have a great week.
Hope you get things sorted out Leesa and can get this all behind you. Frustrating.
That's interesting about the difference between Tamox and AI's. I thought Tamox was halting my estrogen production not just keeping it from producing cancer. Isn't that why we get hot flashes - because of the lack of estrogen?
Have a great day ladies. One of these days it will be sunny and warm.

RAIN BE GONE!!! But PLEASE NO Snow!!! What's this I heard on the news last night possible accumulation of snow on Friday??? I don't want the plane grounded due to snow!
Susan did you see my bro? He's the type of therapist that would tell you that....now you know why I live so far from him!!!
Leesa how old is your daughter? My GD has issues like that but after SEVERAL long talks she's doing better ( I should mention we've raised GD since she was 3 now 15 going on 25!! LOL)
I think the should out law answering machs @ Dr's office but NOT replace them with a silly gal that is doing gud to know her own name!LOL
Rite Bowl another 200 for me
Connie get a trim you'll be surprised what a difference 1/4 inch makes!! Get a trim on the same day go to look good feel better you'll feel like a new woman!
Time to start my day

Morning All!
Yay! Karin is in Elgin, right next door! Can't wait to meet you....
Blackjack...how's your Mom? Your daughter? Your knee? Need an update....
Connie....you sound so much better, and you are moving full-steam ahead. Isn't it great to complain about hair again? It's so.....normal!
Leesa....did you get your call-back yet? How did DH's labs turn out?
Medal nipples? Boobie pillows? I love this thread!!!!!
Jackie, Rita....sounds like you guys are getting hammered with rain. We don't have that today, just gloomy and chilly. And Karin is correct...they did mention that word for Thursday night-Friday and again on Sunday. You know, that little 4-letter word that I have come to hate, hate, hate.
Off to grab something to eat, then laundry. Oooooooooh, fun!
0 -
I love the medal nipples and booby pillows too. If I can possible do it I'd love to arrive late for lunch Friday. Same table?

Hi All,
I have not had a chance to catch up on this thread........between working, doing my taxes, fundraising for the Y-Me Mothers Day walk and my rad tx, I have run out of time....soooooooo, I hope everyone is doing well and those that are struggling I pray your struggles end quickly.
Zap, thank you for the generous donation to "The Pink Walkers". Are you going to be at lunch on Friday? If so, I look forward to meeting you.
Have a great Thursday!!!

connie - you are correct:
Estrogen promotes the growth of breast cancer cells. Tamoxifen works against the effects of estrogen on these cells. It is often called an "anti-estrogen." As a treatment for breast cancer, the drug slows or stops the growth of cancer cells that are present in the body. As adjuvant therapy, tamoxifen helps prevent the original breast cancer from returning and also helps prevent the development of new cancers in the other breast.
AIs reduce the amount of estrogen in the body, tamoxifen blocks a tumor's ability to use estrogen.
Hope this helps!
LEESA - You "sound" good...you're moving ahead and that's great! The scheduling...sucks big time...but hang in there.
GIRLZ - Just popping in to say hi! I hope you're all doing well. This morning I tried the LEAVE LATER/STAY LATER approach to my work day...to avoid sitting in 2 hours of traffic and it worked! So...when I am in the office, my hours will be 10 to 6...no lunch. That works for me!
0 -
I didn't believe you Karin, but I just pulled up the weather. Winter Storm watch tomorrow night - up to six inches! This is getting ridiculous!!!!
I hear you about sitting in traffic Laura. I leave the house at 6 and leave work at 4 to try to avoid it. Glad you were able to figure it out!
0 -
Oh my gosh! They're predicting 6 inches of snow for your area tomorrow??? You're right, Connie. That's ridiculous! We're only supposed to get rain and hopefully we're heading into a sunny Kentucky.
I don't envy you gals the traffic rush! I'd really have to work on my patience level if I lived in your area and had to contend with rush hour traffic.
Blackjack...I hope you're doing O.K. We haven't heard much from you lately.
Jackie, hope all went well today and that the weather didn't play havoc with your trip. Mark another one off your calendar. You're getting there. I'll think of you when we pass your area on the way to Kentucky! :-) When we are not on such a tight schedule, I'll swing by on one of my trips and meet you.
Well, I'm going to get back to my book! Everyone have a good Thursday! I can't believe it! I have absolutely nothing special planned for tomorrow except to get clothes ready for the weekend venture!
Take care, ladies!
Rita

Hi All,
Glad you are all doing well....we definitely need the no snow fairy now super big time.
Rain going to Marion but none coming home several hours later. We made several stops at various places so were home fairly late.
One of those places was Staples and I found a fabulous pc.........the newer small compact one with all the features of the bigger clunkier models....( lets see what my spell checker does with that word ) and they had a good discount on it so i bought it. Had no intention of moving quite that fast, but there is so much I can't do with my old filled up pc and so much I can renew....or see. Lots of red x's and all that stuff that drives you daft. Also the 2 gigabytes will much faster than have now---even on wireless.
So....just saying that I will have a time lapse while the new one gets hooked up----probably tonight, but will be tomorrow night before my BIL gets over to transfer my good stuff from this old pc to the new one.....like my address book and my favorites which is where I keep the direct link to this thread....as well as a few of the other threads that I like to keep an eye on.
So, if I'm am not as active for a bit....that's the reason...I'm not literate enough with this machine to do all that quickly and efficiently....much quicker for BIL. It would probably take me a week.
So....don't panic if I don't show up for a bit......believe me, I'll be crying til' my ability to come talk to all of you is back in place just like it works right now.
I will also have to teach myself the vagaries of using Vista Home Premium. We have that at work.....but I only use that computer when none of the agents need it.....it has all the Multiple Listings on it so I have to wait for them to go show property or be absent completely before I can get on it. I've really enjoyed it though so I'm glad to have my own here now....despite having to retrain myself.
I hope and pray that the northern temps will evaporate and that you won't get the four letter word white stuff.....or at least a whole lot less though the other four letter word NONE would be much more superior. I'll be hoping and praying.....we should have sun for a couple of days and our temps look like they are staying if not high at least moderate for now. I'm stoked.
Infusion went pretty well today---generally always do, so I will be playing the waiting game for se's hoping that this time goes super well.
Easter at Ann and Jims' here in town Sunday. I'm making Frog Eye Salad.....very, very good and hoping that I can control my se's so I can enjoy.
SIL will come over Friday and mop my wood floors throughout the house.
Ok---I'm babbling so I'm going to get off of here......again, don't worry if I'm missing for a bit....it's just temporary.
Jackie

Everyone-sorry I will have to miss the lunch this Friday after all. Hopefully I can make the next one.
Karin-I was hoping to meet you this Friday. Make sure Kater takes pics! (Hope the weather doesn't mess up your travel plans)
Connie-How are you healing after the exchange? My surgery is next Friday. I am doing the implant exchange and a lift (on the good side). I also have my herceptin tx on Monday. I think I only have a couple more left.
Rita-Have a great time in Kentucky!
Laura-glad your job is going so well. I'm sure your new coworkers love you!
Jackie-I definitely need a new computer soon. This desktop is soooo slow. That is why I really don't post very often. I get very frustrated.

Hi All,
I am kind of bombed out today. Yesterday I noticed a small, 1/2 inch round, bruise on the inner side of my left breast, about 2 inches from the sternum. This can be another sign of inflammatory breast cancer which often presents without a lump. After two Docs at Northwestern told me in Jan. they did not think I had IBC, I am really upset. I guess I will wait a week or two to see what happens with it.
There are a couple of possible causes not related to BC. We have been remodeling our bathroom (the buildings are all cement here , so they use a jackhammer inside the house and dig canals around the walls when changing electrical lines), my whole house is dust and we have been moving furniture, covering things with old sheets, etc. Maybe I bruised myself in all the activity. Maybe I got a bruise from being too "frisky", if you know what I mean. I will wait. If it doesnt go away, I might get a skin punch biopsy here in Israel if I can convince myself I would trust the results. I only left Chicago about 1 month ago, and hate to fly home again for nothing.
I kind of wrote a funny letter for my boobs.
Dear Girls,
We have been good friends ever since you made your appearance when I was a teenager. We have had a relationship that STOOD OUT through 4 babies and 35 years of marriage. However, I feel that you have changed and I do not trust you anymore. I mistrust your intentions towards me. For that reason I am seriously considering ending our relationship and cutting you off and not having any further contact.

OK......I didn't pay too much attention last night, but now I am! All channels now saying at least 6 inches, possibly nine inches, all coming late tonight and all day tomorrow. Couple that with it being Good Friday with lots of traffic and the fact that some of us have at least a 35-40 minute drive in nice weather....I think we need to keep an eye on the skies and have a snow tree in place. I myself don't mind the driving to Schaumburg, it's the not knowing what's happening outside as we sit and chat for hours. And Kater lives 30 minutes W of me! If it were up to me, I would move it to next week. But I will leave it up to you guys and we will get a consensus. Last thing you want is to be sliding all over the roads on a busy travel day. And Karin....hopefully as you are flying out of Midway, your plane will be somewhat on time but getting there in a snowstorm with everybody trying to get to the airport to leave for vacation for spring break???? Yuck.
Sharon....I am betting this is what did indeed happen. We can bruise anywhere...and I loved your letter to your boobs. I have not been too happy with mine either and I did warn them if they don't behave..."Off with their heads!". You know, now this is where I will sound stupid because of course Israel is a big place and I have no idea where she lives, but there is a gal on these boards from Illinois who lives in Israel...her name is Ravdeb. Maybe she might turn out to live near you! Maybe you could PM her and ask for a good place to go for a bx, should you even need one. Just a thought tho.
Jackie...wooooohooooo! New computer! My desktop one is 5 years old so is slow, but only horribly slow on the weekends. My laptop is OK, but sometimes is very slow too...you know, when kids are off school and dsl is busy. I've been looking and DH has been saying get 2 new ones (he has something called a Ti line (sp?) at school so he has immediate access to internet and he gets soooo frustrated at home). I just hate spending the money as for me the computers are still fine cuz I use them during the day, or at 6am! And I really don't want Vista either as I have heard about all the problems from the District's techy. DH's school district is buying a whole load of fully loaded HP laptops which they special-ordered with XP...maybe I should ask Tom to ask his district whether he can buy one...hmmmmmm. Never thought of that.
Blackjack...so sorry your Mom has had a time of it. But since she wanted to go shopping, maybe she is on the upswing. Are you off next week?
Rita...wow, you have a day with nothing to do? I bet you last 2 hours, then go out and dig a well or something. If we don't "talk" again, have a wonderful Easter weekend with your family!
Mich101...it might be that you will be missing nothing! Good luck with your surgery if I don't talk to you again! I will be interested in knowing how you too feel when you get your last Herceptin. I was glad to say bye-bye to the port, but if I had to get H for the next few years I think I would have liked that. I still wonder if there are nasty cells, running around in my body, saying "oh good! No more Herceptin...Yay! Let's go get her again!". Silly, but it's what I think about....
Leesa, Calypso, NancyLa...can you PM one of us with a # to reach you in case we need to cancel lunch tomorrow? Nicki...I think I have your home #, but not a cell#??? With the weather, you might be stuck anyway somewhere.
Karin....I'm around today, but didn't know what you were up to, in case you wanted to grab a coffee or something. Hope the weather behaves for you tomorrow.
Laura...glad you don't have to drive to Lemont tomorrow! What a nightmare THAT would be!
Enuf crud from me this AM....I will check back later thruout the day to see what you are all thinking re: tomorrow.

Dh didn't get new p.c. hooked up last night so have a chance to get a few thoughts this a.m.
Sorry my good vibes didn't stop that snow. Drat...I was sure hoping.
I use Vista at work....it's been out a while so lots of the bugs already have fixes on them. As well, I think business Vista's are a little more complicated than the home versions. I have lots of computer geeks around so I'm not too afraid of the thing....just have to get used to where things are. I use one at work and it's not been too hard so far and we've had it nearly a year now.
Without further ado ----
Rita........ Frog Eye Salad
8 ozs shell macaroni........Acini-De Pepi
( it's with regular macaroni at the grocery )
2 qts. salted water
1 T cooking oil
1/2 cup miniature marshmallows
2 11 oz cans mandarin orange slices
1 20 oz can pineapple tidbits
1 15 oz can crushed pineapple
1/2 cup sugar
1 1/2 T flour
1/4 tsp. salt
1 cup pineapple juice ( reserved )
1 egg beaten
2 tsps lemon juice
1 8 oz carton Cool Whip
Cook shell macaroni in water with salt and oil.
When tender, drain and rinse with water.
Cool to room temperature.
Prepare dressing as follows:
Combine sugar, flour, and 1/4 tsp.salt. Gradually stir in pineapple juice.
Cook over moderate heat, stirring until thickened. Slowly add beaten egg. Cook a few minutes longer.
Add lemon juice.
Cool mixture to room temperature.
Combine dressing mixture and macaroni and mix lightly.
Refrigerate until very cold.
Add remaining ingredients. Mix lightly. Will store as long as a week.
Makes 12 servings.
People never guess it's baby macaroni in your salad. They think tapioca, rice, even cottage cheese. Nothing looks like Frog Eyes in the salad to me....so don't know where the name came from at all.
It's very tasty though and usually there are not too many leftovers.
Hope you will try it some time.
Jackie

Sharon - you are in my thoughts and prayers. I do hope you just injured yourself during all your remodeling work. Worrying just stinks! I love your letter - it actually made me a little teary. Best of luck to you.
Mich101 - good luck with your exchange next week. I am feeling good one week after. Just a few sore spots that really only cause me trouble when I'm rolling over in bed. Without the lift and in my bra, they look very even now (soooo glad to get that boob off my chin). I do feel like they are somehow not the same size though - my good breast seems a little bigger. I don't know if that is because of the nipple and just a little different shape or not. I also need to get some new bras as my current ones are a bit old - I was just waiting for my new "girl" before I went shopping. So, time will tell.
Good luck with the new pc Jackie. What fun - a new toy! That should keep your mind off your se's. Thanks for the recipe. Sounds very interesting - might have to try that.
Have a great day everyone - supposed to be 45 and sunny. Calm before the storm I guess.

OK Girls I leave it up to you about changing your lunch day. I'm not sure how long it's going to take to get to midway ( I think I like Ohara better) I have to be there by 6 pm. With the weather report it might best if you postponed lunch to next week. Then maybe the NO SNOW fairy will be back at work LOL. I sooo wanted to meet everyone but as Wendy mentioned it's hard to tell what the weather will do while we are visiting. (My luck snow to ice and I'll stuck at airport!!)
Visit w/ family is nice. But do miss DH & GD back in Oregon.
Not sure what my sis planned for me today, I didn't make any plans!!will check in later

Hey, ladies I hope all are doing well. I am doing ok. Still feeling a little se's but not much. Go to my first physical thereapy next week finally. Question? How often are you supposed to get your port flushed? Now that I don't have chemo every other week should I go in and have it flushed until I get it removed? While reading the boards I see that alot of you are very active through this bc fight. I am done with chemo now and still find it hard to get my life back together. Worried about my next dr. visit. I want to move past this state of unconciousness. My parents are coming to visit me today. Haven't seen them since the day after the boob job in October. They are driving up from Urbana just to spend the day with me since we are leaving on vacation tomorrow. I am worried about the weather also. Everything has been confirmed and I don't want to loose anymore money.
The other night I went to my first bc support group. Bossom Buddies is the name. I had a great time. However being the only AA there and the only one under the age of 57 I didn't fill out of place at all. As everyone went around the table and shared there stories I felt we were all the same. I pictured myself at the table with all of you and wondered would it be just as great as that meeting was and I came up with the answer YES... Can't wait until the lunch date so that I can be there with you all. Mostly all of the women were 5-10 years cancer free except for one and myself. She had just finished in Nov with rads. I was the baby in every way. One lady even graciously offered to knit me a chemo hat as I displayed my bald head. I just had the best time and got some lovely first timer gifts.
Today is another bad day from last year. I have a telephone hearing with the IDL Fair Labor Board and my ex-friend/ employer. We had decided to go into the day care business last year. After her getting married and going on an expensive honeymoon in Hawaii she came back and decided not to pay me my share of the day care money. Wanted to catch up on all of her bills I guess so I am suing her for a month and 1/2 full of wages. I am sort of stressed about it. I really liked and trusted her. And I was finally doing something that I have always wanted to do with my life. She stole from me but then went around and lied and bad mouthed me to everyone. I was so stressed out and to top it off bc. 2007 what a year.
But I am still Standing...Wish me luck.
Have a great day. And I hope the snow fairies work so that you guys get to have a wonderful lunch date.
Sabrina
